    Here in the UK I have purchased my first David Austin bare root roses "Bring me sunshine" and "Gertrude Jekyll" so looking forward to the summer to see how they fair. . I also think I should go for Elizabeth I was named after our late Queen because I was born in Coronation year, she was an amazing lady.

    This year I was able to order Princess Alexandra of Kent(2), Gertrude Jekyll, Gertrude Jekyll Climbing, Olivia-Standard, Olivia(2), Harlow Carr. All 8 were all delivered beautifully and are already putting on growth! So excited this season. My only concern…my standard Olivia was delivered with opaque, hard plastic, large zip ties along with the stake. In years past, they came with 2 black flexible rubber straps. I won’t be using the ones provided this year. I feel they will damage the tree every time the wind blows! Otherwise, I’m already looking forward to my next order! Lol❤😂

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  5 месяцев назад

      Grrrr. I noticed those ties last year and I too was SO disappointed. I got in touch with DA and voiced my concern. I recommended that they continue to offer the nice rubber ties for an extra charge. I would totally pay for them!

    My order is coming in a few days--I ordered 2 more Desdemonas (I have another and she's my favorite) plus Gertrude Jekyll. I have ordered bare roots in the past and they have all turned out to be strong and productive roses!

    Hi, Kimberley - I was thrilled to find your RUclips channel and FB Page. I am also in MD 7b (SW Balto County), and as I am pushing 70 years old, I've been looking for a local rosarian who might be interested in adopting (no charge) a couple of roses I grow that nobody else seems to own. One is a once-blooming mystery rose, the other is a Ben Williams Mini-Flora from Behnke's that no one on HelpMeFind/Roses grows. Neither have any signs of of RRD. Let me know if you're interested.

      That is so very kind of you to offer sharing your roses! Sadly I am having problems finding places for my roses. What I do each year is lift out the roses that I am re-homing and then at my garden tour in May, offer them to the tour guests. Consider having a tour this year with your neighbors. You could really spark interest for those in your community to be Rose Buds!
      I hope you will consider visiting for my next tour since you are so close! I may not have one this May. But, definitely next May 2025

    Just discovered your channel through Fraser Valley. You are a delight! Trying roses for the first time after being terrified of them all my life. Ordered a few varieties from Antique Rose Emporium in SE Texas and three from David Austin. Especially nervous about the David Austin roses as I hear they don’t like our heat and humidity in Houston. Ordered Emily Brontë, Roald Dahl and Desdemona. They shipped today! 😬 🤞

      THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so glad that you liked the video. I am glad that you found roses and I sending wishes for all of the success this season.
      Just a note, sometimes David Austin roses can be finicky (for everyone). The three you have will give you a good test run. IF you see Kordes roses, please buy one that you like. Kordes is my absolute FAV for health and blooms and you will be hooked!
      Keep me posted Rose Bud.

    I got 3 Elizabeth bare root roses and one Princess Anne bare root. Planted in west Texas 3 weeks ago. Holding my breath and waiting for them to bid out. I don’t know if I can take the suspense. I also got 5 roses from Heirloom in pots and they sew leafed out and growing within a week. Not David Austin’s, but a Julia child, a Peace, Glowing Peace and Chicago Peace and a nearly black Dancing in the Dark. I couldn’t plant them myself as I’m not allowed to garden for six months after an autologous stem cell transplant.

    I'm so curios to see how Bring Me Sunshine does for you since I'm just up the road from you in DC. I have a postage stamp to garden on so have to be picky. I'm thinking of adding it next year. BTW, I hadn't realized our hardiness zones had changed until I kept hearing you say you were in zone 8a this year when I had remembered that you were in 7b and I was 7a. I looked it up and found out I went from 7a to 8a last fall so changed my rose order to arrive earlier. I likely would not have realized if not for watching your videos.

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  5 месяцев назад

      I am so glad you caught that. Isn't it something that our zones changed? Saying I am in zone 8a sounds so odd. I have been a 7 girl for so long. I feel like I went up a dress size.....let's hope it stays 8 forever. I don't want to keep getting warmer. Thank you for watching.

    HI,
    My Elizabeth rose was recently planted bare root in clay soil, I am noticing some of the canes turning yellow. Should I cut these out do you know what I can do to stop the issue

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  5 месяцев назад

      oh no! Lift it out of the ground and pot it up. Make sure that it isn't in water in the clay. Once it is in soil, watch the watering closely and give it a weak does of fish fertilizer. I hope that helps!

    Don't you love unboxing your rose order? It's like christmas & spring & birthday rolled into one! I got 2 own root-bareroot roses, Young Lycidas & Vanessa Bell, & 3 grafted Brother Cadfael roses. All are happily sitting in glorious rich potting soil in nice big pots, enjoying our spring combination of rain & sun. Then yesterday I got 8 roses from Heirloom that are sitting in dappled shade, awaiting another dry day & my assistant to get situated in their own pots. And 2 more coming from Regan, first time ordering from them. I feel like a dog who's just given birth to a litter of puppies---Are they healthy? Thriving? How will they turn out? Will they manage to survive new homes (transplanting to a garden), the tough times (winter...& summer!). Will they be beautiful & small good? All questions we "mothers" ask!

    I ordered many roses from DA this year including: Princess Anne, Vanessa Bell, Munstead Wood, Roald Dahl x2, Wollerton Old Hall x2, Queen of Sweden, Charlotte, and Darcey Bussell. I got rid of the wax leaf ligustrum hedge and I decided I wanted a rose hedge. The other roses that I had I had bought previously from DA including Olivia Rose Austin, Desdemona, and Carding mill as potted roses. Overall the quality was good this year. I like Heirloom’s DA potted roses better but I wish they had a wider selection. The ones from heirloom that are part of this hedge are another OLA, Emily Bronte, and Scepter’d Isle.

    I ended up purchasing 28 roses from DA this year and they've all looked fantastic! Most came with extremely long roots. No issues at all with any of them. They all came really healthy. I ended up buying a Bring Me Sunshine from the local nursery as I didn't include one in my DA orders. I'm looking forward to it. Reminds me of Roald Dahl with that orange-y yellow color.

    Ordered 10 DA bare roots this year. They've been in the ground a month and 8 of them are doing great. Some even have small buds. 2 of them(Ancient Mariner & Lady Gardener) have not shown any growth but still green stems so I hope they will make it. They did replace a Gabriel Oak that died on me last year and that is doing great.

    Love your channel, I just received my replacement rose Malvern Hills, a few days ago and did as you asked check for 3 shoots like pencil thickness and eyes, is doing great so far, my other Malvern Hills had some brown branches, the eyes that came with never grew they just brown and shunk away. I trimmed the brown pieces and left it in place because the rest of the rose seems green but I don't see any growth on it. should I leave it in place or pull it? thank you for your informational videos. Yazmin

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Yazmin. If the eye buds turn brown the rose is struggling. You will want to watch it closely and check the water to make sure that the soil isn't dry. You may even consider lifting it and putting it in a pot to watch it closer. Good luck!
