Promoting ALCOHOL during a press tour for a movie about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is wild. So much domestic violence is precipitated or amplified by alcohol. Wow.
Keep in mind, her booze company was sponsoring events for the movie, a movie about DV and they had cocktail drinks named after the perpetrator. The lack of propriety and care with that alone😒
IKR--a lot of victims of DV resort to alcohol to cope and end up addicted so I take serious issue with that sponsorship situation. Just insanely offensive in my opinion.
I can forgive people for having bad moments or being snarky (if they try to make up for it), but the refusal to talk about DV during promo of that movie was so obvious and bizarre
Hope you kept that same energy against Trump and Vance.....because I find it interesting that so many women went after a marketing campaign faux pas but didn't keep the heat on the r*pist who is now our president
I was about to propose that maybe she had, for whatever reason, been instructed not to, but her MALE co-star, who plays the abuser, has talked about it and has been doing a great job. So yeah wtf was girl thinking honestly
She was disappointingly irreverent. Did she want to ‘play down’ the dv angle because she had sponsorships and didn’t want to make it seem ‘too serious’? 🤔😯 Such a terrible move. I believe the whole entertainment industry will be affected by what’s currently being exposed and the world is wiser to manipulations. She and her husband are shills.
Blake has the same issues that JLO has with her skincare line. Bad packaging and a bad reputation for the celebrity in question. And an oversatuated market of celebrity product lines.
The problem with JLO is that she wanted to sell something fake, the marketing is a lie and it's too expensive for what is, the brand had already problems before people start hating her.
I’ve gotten so much JLo from boxycharm 😂 and it’s not bad at that price point lol but I’m glad I quit, Blake’s hair care is going to hit the subscription boxes hard soon!
Tbh the bad reputation coincided with the brand launch (was even fuelled by it to an extent I think? Because she was promoting it as well during the movie tour). The rest of the drama went down at the same time, it was all happening. She was very liked before that.
The crazy thing is that Blake Lively had the public eating out of her hand for years before this film. All she had to do was be somewhat aware of the current climate and what people expected of her - and she would have remained a celebrity darling. it's the fact that she made it SO CLEAR - that she's never existed in a world where she had to abide by anyone elses expectations but her own that put a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
It was by proxy; people only loved her for the relationship with Ryan. They were funny on Twitter, and donated to a lot of charities over the years so people thought They are this saintlike people, ignoring what is being said about them (ignoring how they ended up together too). Blake has been riding Ryan's fame for a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if his team was hard at work trying to do some damage control on his side.
She had nothing but Ryan. Her career is pointless she could only do fashion few years more. Well, she won’t act much bcs I doubt even if someone hired her, that she wants to play median age and grown ass woman. She played there 23 yer old. 37 year old woman with 4 kids. That is her vain brain and personality.
She waited for what she thought was the best time to release it and it ended up being the worst time. If she’d launched this like 5-7 years ago when ppl were like “omg she and Ryan are such a funny down to earth couple!” it might’ve worked a bit better. I say “a bit” bc I don’t see a celeb hair care line having any sort of staying power in the market in this culture/economy.
She would've squeezed some more money out of it at least. The market is still oversaturated, but the growing awareness of overconsumption, the way people are side-eyeing her after her tone deaf movie promotion, and the traction that 'blake is a bully' is gaining is not great timing.
I can't imagine any celebrity having a successful haircare line. People tend to choose either budget or salon quality products. A celeb line just feels like it would be overpriced without the quality. When it comes to hyped makeup lines, people will sometimes spend more money so they can tell people what brand they're wearing or pull it out of their purse to show off. No one asks what shampoo a person uses, and one really wouldn't be carrying these products around in their purse, so haircare is just a difficult product to get people to spend more on.
Obviously i can only speak for myself but this part didn't bother me too much. I think it's ok to promote sisterhood and woman supporting each other, who might find it hard to watch the movie. Even the encouragement to wear florals. Refusing to answer the guy ask how people who have been in that situation could approach her about the movie in public was messed up.
@@Ruinedtri Perhaps she realises somewhere that the movie and especially the book is absolutely shit and anyway doesn't do anything for DV victims.. And even when she doesn't (she obviously doesn't) it's not surprising. We've had enough of trauma p*rn and enough of making women watch their oppression & violation on screen, I'd say.
@@Ruinedtri but she wasn’t saying that’s as a women supporting women thing. She wanted the movie to be like the Barbie movie where everyone dressed in pink to watch it.
Ok, the florals tho is because the character, Lily Bloom was the owner of a florist shop...otherwise, it would not be appropriate. The rest of it tho, I can not defend.
Watch the interview she did with a female journalist in like 2016 where Blake and her costar were BULLYING the lady during the interview. Ignoring her questions, being catty with their responses… just super rude. Literally being like high school mean girls. People were able to dig it up when Blake’s controversy with this movie came to light. She is truly awful. Edit: look up “the Blake lively interview that made me want to quit my job” there are also some other RUclipsrs who deep dive this interview when they review her movie.
I feel like Blake tries to act like her husband in interviews, or maybe has that banter at home with him so much than she repeats it in public but her husband (I can’t remember his name) has found a way to make it ‘charming’ not always, but he gets away with it cause when he does say something and it doesn’t land, he finds a way out of, making himself look silly, where as Blake just double downs on it and make you feel silly for it not landing. He’s very disarming, where as it feels very ‘arming’ with her (is that the opposite…) 🙈
Yes I think Blake is emulating Ryan to a certain degree (either consciously, or unconsciously just for being together a lot). I believe "vibe" is an amorphous but inescapable part of someone's persona. Ryan is just naturally charming in the way that Blake never is. However, if you notice Ryan's jokes are typically self-deprecating. If he's making fun of somebody else it's usually his friends or comedians that are kinda on his level. Blake's jokes are a lot of times at the expense on the other person, or for some reason have a mean, "arming" undertone.
The other difference is that her husband normally works on more comedic movies so his humour works, she was working on a film about DV so this humous was in poor taste
yeah they're both trying to do the same thing but ryan generally tries to make the jokes at his own expense and blake generally tries to make the jokes at other people's expense. and the contrast was really stark this time because ryan was promoting a superhero movie which is really not all that serious at the end of the day while blake was promoting a movie about domestic violence which is super serious. like the initial joke response she gave for how fans should talk to her about this movie would have worked if it was about a comedy.
I see that, and I agree. but I also think at least some part of it is that she's a woman and "not allowed" to be funny. not that she is at all, but she and her husband both have the same cadence in those interviews I didn't know they were married, but after I saw that, I did notice that gosling is also a bit shitty (he did writing work during the writer's strike even though he's part of the union, too). Match made in heaven, I guess.
The line is absolutely flopping because Blake comes off as terribly unlikable and boring. I used to read a blog called DListed (RIP 😭) and her nickname there was Blake NotSoLively. Then there’s other problematic stuff about her - the plantation wedding, being rude to everyone she deems beneath her, etc. It also just seems like J Lo’s skincare line - a soulless cash grab. It seems like her first attempt to branch out with that Martha Stewart/Goop-esque website that failed specularly because it was overpriced crap. It had a “food useable spoon” for like $8. One regular spoon! Also, that packaging is clunky and hideous.
Preserve (her "lifestyle" website) was also creepily focused on this Southern Belle/antebellum South aesthetic. Makes it hard to believe her and Ryan Reynolds when they say the plantation wedding was innocent.
The only thing I could think when she was like "everyone I worked with preferred using hair masks over conditioner" was, "hmm, sounds like everyone you worked with was white". No way could I not use conditioner on my type 3/4 hair. That being said, I don't think a lot of black folks would go out of their way to buy her hair brand.
It’s rare something makes sense. Like Hayley Williams making bright hair dye Made sense. And she kept it as a side-thing To Her Music, which I think was smart.
I will never forget how she and her husband got married on a plantation, (her previous website was based around a plantation aesthetic) and only addressed and apologised some 8 years later….
@@AutumnHaunts That's absolutely what happened. Ryan tweeted a performative tweet about the Black Panther movie and he was reminded about their wedding and then issued a saving face apology.
🤔 you do know what a plantation is right? It’s just a large farm or estate. It doesn’t always mean slaves 🤦🏼♀️ Clearly yall are not from the south. Yall listen to much to people who like to yell about random things they don’t know about obviously.
the packaging looks like something that should've launched in my childhood which would be the 90s. very gaudy. also whenever somebody tells me i need all the products in their range or "system" it sounds like an mlm
I know from first hand experience, that celebrities rarely have healthy hair. Over processed hair is an occupational hazard, even for men. What you mostly see is extensions and treatments that act as makeup for the hair, but do little to actually improve it's quality.
I’ve actually found myself put off on products when their celebrity linked. I have a hard time trusting the authenticity behind the products simply BECAUSE it has a celebrity name behind it.
It's amazing. When I was a kid (I'm late 30s now) I feel like I remember celebrity endorsement etc meaning they stood by a product/service. It's seemed to become much more of a free-for-all nowadays
Agreed! I just assume it’s crap. Maybe I’m too old and still associate celebrity products with cheap fragrance from the Walmart Christmas section? I have Fenty lip oil that’s nice. Otherwise, soft pass…
Lol i do it all the time. I’m embarrassed to say he and the Kenough guy are the same person to my brain. (That happens to me with a lot of actors, actually.)
As someone with 4c curly hair, I understand the need for deep conditioning so the mask isn’t that strange to me. I do think for connivence they needed a less time consuming option than just a mask.
I have wavy low-porosity hair but it’s fine, so I can’t use conditioner or masks without weighing it down! A hydrating shampoo alone is fine, sometimes with a really lightweight styling cream or mousse, but anything meant to condition is too much (since I usually don’t heat style, there’s no damage to repair either). Hair needs can vary so dramatically, it’s fascinating.
But if you're coming out with a hair care line, you need a conditioner - it's a staple product. I would stay a couple shampoos, a conditioner, and a mask would be the minimum you could get away with
it was seen as very offensive in the US- she barely mentioned DV- didnt share websites, support sites- The director worked closely with DV groups to make sure he did it right, she failed terribly, AND SHE DID NOT DONATE ANY OF THE HAIR PRODUCTS TO DV SHELTERS- so she released a beauty product during movie promotions for a very serious situation, and did not donate to shelters, she barely talked about DV and victims. Pretty disgusting And yes, she undermined the director, went around his back, and changed the entire vibe of everything he was working for. shes pretty much done over here. mean girl 100%, so selfish, so immature, idk why she was ever so popular
I never cared for her, and I’m in the US and will not be supporting this range any more than I supported her failed “lifestyle brand”, which sucked. Good grief, artisan ketchup, anyone?
@@jess_ismore because its very out of touch… she does a movie regarding a serious issues that kills hundreds of people… and then instead of giving numbers to help people escape, working with non profits to help people, she takes the moment to be greedy. It’s in extremely bad out of touch taste
13:00 "I'm sure you've seen-" No James, I only use RUclips, I simply do not interact with any of these apps anymore, you and other creators are the only way I hear about "drama" and it sounds dreadful but y'all make it entertaining 😂😂
Same! I do not have the time nor patience for all that nonsense on the daily, but I will sit down and listen to James and Robert and a few others fill me in and make me laugh about it.
13:22 shes not a professional mental health or DV counselor so people shouldn't be trauma dumping on her. But it would have been so so easy to just answer kindly. Something like "Im not a professional so I wouldn't dream of trying to help somebody in that way, but *plug the DV hotline number* is such a good resource." Something idk. Anything but what she said
I didn’t realize it ends with us was about DV. Thanks for the heads up. I totally would have gone to see it and ended up with panic attacks and flashbacks.
I really wish people would take Trigger Warnings more seriously. So many times I've been having fun, winding down with some kind of entertainment, when all of a sudden HUGE TRIGGER and now I'm having a panic attack that takes days to recover from. Like I get it if you're triggered by straws or something like that, you can't have a TW for everything but a really common one like DV? Animal ab*se? CA? Why are we more cautious about rating things being safe for children and not people who can experience severe mental/emotional setbacks with triggers?
I’m sitting in bed with a migraine and your voice is so soothing. You could read the back of a cereal box and I would be grateful. Luckily you have great content as well! Lots of love from the dark abyss of my room!
Domestic violence impacts so many people and especially her key demographic in women. She just did not follow the right PR script for marketing this movie and her brand was collateral damage.
They weren't actually marketing the movie. They were marketing the idea of "Blake & Ryan", Hollywood's cute and funny power- couple and talking about a serious topic like DV goes against that.
It felt like she wanted her own barbenheimer bc deadpool x wolverine came out around the same time as this movie. Like in interviews she kept bringing her husband and his movie up. It didn't catch on at all and watching It with this in mind it's so cringy lol. Like girl this one is just not about you.
The hairstylist in me wants to tell her to get a deep conditioning mask, leave in conditioner and a hair oil. It always looks so dry. Blonde hair needs that extra moisture or you’ll have dull hair with breakage
My hair grows like crazy. I do nothing but color it, but it’s long and naturally straight (😑) and smooth. And split. It’s garbage where not blessed with genes. Strangers stop to tell me how beautiful it is. It’s long. I don’t think most people have a good eye for it. Although, my untrained eye also sees dry blonde trash.
Idk anything about hair, just enjoy James' enthusiasm and was compelled to subscribe - do you know what it is about being blond that makes hair require more moisture?
@CiCodiCadno natural blonde hair isn’t as dry, but any time a person chemically lightens (colloquially called bleach) hair it causes damage. It varies depending on lightening products used or how often it’s lightened. It will cause the individual hair strands to become more porous and that leads to dryness and breakage. The only way to help that is adding moisture back in as best you can with more frequent conditioning masks/treatments, leave in conditioners, heat protectant and/or hair oil.
Sure, you can create a mask that is multi purpose, but decent products aren't necessarily interchangeable. Conditioners are usually slightly acidic and packed with anti-static agents to smooth the cuticle after shampooing, so they ideally shouldn't be left on for as long as masks should. Plus the amount of slip in most conditioners is enough to detangle most waves, curls, & coils, while masks usually aren't up to the task (I guess this line is for type 1 - 2b hair only).
Also, she wore Britanny Spears dress during one of thr promotional events. Britanny has been a survivor of trauma in some capacity or the other both physically and emotionally and I feel like choosing that dress was so so tone deaf. And, it seemed like her true colours showed through her actions. Thanks for the great content 🙏.
@@odala8245 I know but even if Blake or someone from her pr were an ounce intelligent they would have never used the dress or would have used some small business designer’s dress. But thank you for the comment.
I love it that you're so late with this launch, I live at the same pace 😂 BL has long and lots of hair but it's never looked shiny or healthy, I don't see the hype just see her taking a new business opportunity.
i lived in Nola when greenlantern was being filmed and they hired a lot of locals to work on the film. And every single person said her and ryan are rude and not nice. That is the tea I have been told by people.
@Courtannica looking at interviews with both of them i think they both have this very dry humor that they both feed into but I don't think the vast majority of ppl would get it lol 😅 So I don't think they are like evil or anything like that. But they definitely should both take a moment to understand how they come off. It can come off as very snoody. Not saying that's how they feel in their heart ya know? But they don't seem to be super warm and fuzzy lol
@brigittelee9730 i honestly think blake got her personality FROM him. Ya know when you are in a relationship and you end up kinda having similar sense of humor? I think that's what has happened. I was told that she was nicer than he was. I think it also has to do with that friend group. Taylor and gigi and the other model girls. they all have spend a lot of time in London and I actually think taylor can be dry too but she does it in a warmer way where you know she is kidding. New Yorkers are also more dry and have a more standoffish personality. I love Taylor swift btw so not saying anything negative but I notice that all that friend group are very dry. Selena included.
😂😂😂 I know. I have the same. I consider it like that - only beach appropriate. I know she is after that Baywatch boobs leggy blond. But that hair looks terrible elsewhere
The irony of her not talking about the film's subject in favour of talking about her clothes & hair, where she sniped at that interviewer a few years back... for asking about her clothes and hair instead of the film.
I feel this is the same situation as Jennifer Lopes' skincare.. a celebrity who isn't particularly popular anymore trying to cash in on their beauty trademarks with products.
Just a note about conditioners vs masques - while it is true that most masque ingredients are very similar to conditioners, the ratio is so different that it's often inadvisable to just leave conditioners in a few extra minutes. Conditioners have less "active" ingredients and more emulsifying ingredients so that they can quickly mix with water to get deeper into your hair, and then be rinsed off right away. Masques have less emulsifying ingredients, so they need more time to sink in. If you leave a conditioner on too long, the emulsifiers will keep reacting and will eventually draw moisture back out of your hair, because there is no water around for it to draw from; basically, it reverses what you set out to do to your hair. If you just need to detangle and close your hair's cuticle after washing, use a conditioner. If you need a specific treatment, like hydration or repair, use a masque.
I grew up in domestic violence. My dad never physically hurt us or my mom, but it came close, and he was still terrifying. Blake really doesn't care at all, and it seems like she has no empathy
I choose to stick to well established brands with decades of testing. It’s just so funny to me that these people are praised for having nice hair, and then expect us to believe that their hair is nice because of this brand new product that was just created. Make it make sense.
Skincare, makeup, or whatever other products, when it comes to celebrities brands it has to make sense, need to seem something that doesn't only have their name but also the celebrity needs to have a good public image. Or it will be destiny to flop.
I found out it was a film with domestic violence from a Philly D video. As a survivor of DV I was so thankful to find that out as I was set to go see it that weekend. Expecting a sweet romance and getting a traumatic trigger is not it. Fuming with that marketing, don’t hide the plot with your damn flowers.
So I didn't know absolutely anything about that book "It ends with us"', but I will say that the few seconds I could see here and there in ads with the movie trailer lead me to believe it was a very Hallmark-y type romance. I was absolutely baffled when he mentioned the plot actually involves DV.
I think its supposed to catch you off guard because from what ive heard the first part of the movie you see the woman framing the actions of her husband in a 'oh well he didn't mean it that way' light, and towards the end of the movie she starts looking back and realising how horrible it is. So as the audience you're supposed to go through the same process of realising that he really is abusive, which is something that a lot of DV victims go through. HOWEVER, I get this is an interesting and thought-provoking idea, but it's insane to do that with such a heavy topic. Especially since I do think it actually shows scenes of physical abuse. Like that is so so triggering and possibly re traumatizing for DV victims if they did not know what the movie was going to be about at all. At least make it clear in the trailer that it's not going to be a romcom, even if that spoils it. Like a horror movie would be even more impactful if you didn't know it was going to be scary, but we're not false marketing those for good reason.
The book ends with the woman (Lily Blossom Bloom, ugh,) and her now-ex splitting custody of their baby. Colleen Hoover says the book was based on her parents, and her father "never hurt _her,"_ so I think Colleen and Blake are perfectly matched.
I also think people are really brands forcing overconsumption. The fact that you’re intended to use every single product she launched to get a good result vs other brands launching product lines where you buy 2 or 3 products for your hair type is crazy. I buy hair care products that are a bit more expensive than hers (I use Aveda) but I can buy 2 or 3 products and my hair will be healthy and happy. I spent more per product but less overall than buying 6 Blake Brown products.
Talking about packaging. Because of how its shaped and the type of nozzle they gave it, you are most likely paying 19 bucks only to end up not using a lot of product. You shouldnt have to do some magic hand tricks in hopes to getting product out of the bottle corners and into your hair.
She has the same vibe as my friends in hs with wavy hair who would say their hair is “basically naturally curly” and give me advice and then act like I must’ve done it wrong when it didn’t work the same on my actually curly hair lol. I can hear it now, “well it works perfectly for me so I dunno what to tell you”
some people gotta remember not all curlies or people with textured hair need the same things. the stuff that helps waves wouldn't do shit to tight kinky curls, but going the other way it would just weigh waves down! like guys please 😭
I genuinely don't understand why she chose a hair brand. Ever since gossip girl she always had normal looking hair (if not sometime dry). Like she doesn't have particularly pretty hair. Her hair isn't shiny and doesn't particularly look good. I just don't see why... And the way her hair looks so dry recently while she's talking about her hair line is such a bad marketing 😭
She also has booze company (despite saying she doesnt drink), where one of the drink flavors is named after the perpetrator in a movie about DV that she was in. She also keeps talking about the movie about DV that she was the main character in as if it is a sill quirky rom com full of hardships instead of a movie that may trigger many people with its dark themes
Agreed. I wish companies would stop trying to sell me bull about their "brand" and just go back to telling me about the product. I can't choose between supporting labor busting tactics in the US vs child labor abroad at the grocery store any more
I stumbled upon your videos today and I don’t even care that much about the topics haha but your voice is *so lovely* to listen to in the background while I work!
If you launch a celebrity brand where the whole "hook" is the celebrity marketing it, the brand will rise or fall on what people think of the celebrity. Also i know nothing about BL or her old show, but wasnt her character a rich spoiled Manhattan school girl? Her natural personality may have been a good match for that role, but its not a good look in an adult woman.
Silicone is very good for your hair. It protects your hair from breakage. I feel like the only influencer who knows anything logical hair is Abby Young. She is a certified trichologist like myself so maybe I’m biased.
I hate when people say separate the art from the artist like we live in a capitalistic society and that means we have to vote with our dollars- I boycotted several brands that I use to love over their responses to Gaza and over union busting. If you have the ability to find something different and you choose not to because you can't be bothered then you can't complain when your money is used to fund things you don't agree with. Also side note can we please stop pretending Blake was the star of Gossip Girl when Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick were the real stars I mean be fr.
Right, like nothing changes if they keep making money. And even if its only for your own conscience, knowing that they will make money anyway but out of your own values you decide not to partake anymore, that's fine too. Staying true to yourself is so important esp now that everyone wants to convince you of something.
Honestly - unless the product is brand new like never seen before, didn't know we could do that type of product, the likelihood of me ditching my routine for a celebrity name is pretty minimal. My skin is super sensitive and now that I finally found what works, I'm not risking a breakout or other potential issues for a celebrity name.
You were spot on with all your observations on this one. And you made a really good point about how she probably should have gone to Sephora with the price point vs Target.
Ironically how Blake’s been on set I believe is one of the reasons Leighton Meester (who played Blair in Gossip Girl) doesn’t really speak to her anymore from what I’ve seen. To be honest I don’t really get celebrity brand products because I know they can work out really well but when it comes to hair are, skin care etc. I’d rather stick to the basic brands like Vera ve and things where I know I can trust it as in my opinion after seeing how the kardashians advertise things it puts me off
lol the Kardashians advertise so many products but people have noticed that the big tubs of Cerave are in their bathroom selfies. Some products are just too good and don’t need to break the bank
This was such a wonderfully produced and well researched video. I cannot get over the fact that I had heard about everything mentioned in this video except the hair care line itself. 😂
I agree. I'm not looking to change my current hair care brands, but would not be opposed if something came along that would give better results, or as good results at a better price. I do not see these products falling into either of these two categories, so I wouldn't be picking them up even if they were on the deeply discounted shelf.
I think Blake was a terrible choice for that movie. I just don’t understand why she didn’t at least pretend to care about DV. I mean you’re an actress 😂 Seriously though, maybe she is just ignorant about DV. Maybe she just never experienced it so didn’t really have much to say. I don’t know… I feel like even people who haven’t experienced DV would know how to be empathetic and would know that joking around and being mean would not paint her in a good light. Why she thought being mean while promoting the film would be a good idea is so bizarre to me.
i have thick coarse hair, I only have to wash it once a week so I hardly use conditioner because you use a mask once a week, so it makes more sense for me to just pick the mask as it feels more nourishing since I dont wash my hair so much!
Although I agree with everything you’ve said - this haircare line is actually good! I have mousse, both shampoos and the leave in potion. I don’t see huge differences in hair quality, I’ve always nourished it, but the scents of BB products alone would make me want to purchase them again! 😍 Sending you hugs!
I agree with James! There's so many online brands in the beauty, skin, hair industry. With so much oversaturation, I want to support the brands that go out of their way to be transparent about their company values and why they choose specific active ingredients. I really disagree with companies that don't want to be transparent and don't try to connect at all with their consumers.
To be honest, I don’t know anything about Blake Lively apart from knowing she’s a celebrity and *probably* is in movies, but I like your videos, so that’s why I’m here learning about her.
Yeah there was another video about this. He tried to be in the middle. But there seemed to be a mix of personality clashing, idea clashing. And extra long tour. I think there was something about the author of the book too. Ugh let's just all remember everyone is a human and bad stories fly with lightning speed.
I am not a cosmetic chemist, but I am a very well trained hairdresser. And while a mask may be more important to restore the 'health' of your hair (hair is dead cells anyway), a conditioner has a completely different way of working and is often needed additionally. A mask penetrantes the hair and often puts keratin and other ingredients into it to strenghten it. A conditioner, while also containing similar components, mostly is working due to its ph-Level, closing the outer layers of the hair, therefore making it easier to detangle and also resulting in more shine. Since the haismask opens the hair and the conditioner closes it, it makes sense to use both after another.
The only criticism I have about this video is that you mentioned that the main issue people have with the actual products is their packaging while simultaneously pullling up a negative review. And while that review did mention hating the packaging, it also mentioned that the product caused their hair to go from healthy to dandruff, shedding, and oily within 24hrs , a point you didn't mention at all
@JamesWelsh that's fair! I've seen a couple of reviews saying their hair became really dry after using her products, but I've done basically no research, so I trust your judgment!

@@JamesWelshI thought the same thing! Whew! So, its not just me.

Promoting ALCOHOL during a press tour for a movie about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is wild. So much domestic violence is precipitated or amplified by alcohol. Wow.
up to 55% of domestic violence cases involve alcohol. It's so sad she just didn't care about anything but herself and her brands
And encouraging unhealthy practice of self-medicating
One of the cocktails was named after the abuser. She really thought she was clever and funny there.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking….especially after my substance abuse counseling class…😮
Yeah it’s super tasteless and tone-deaf. Especially considering she doesn’t even drink alcohol herself? It’s just a gross money-grab…
Keep in mind, her booze company was sponsoring events for the movie, a movie about DV and they had cocktail drinks named after the perpetrator. The lack of propriety and care with that alone😒
That’s just brilliant. How does one fuck up that much?!
This is what made me turn off from her. She’s so out of touch with reality and what some women go through.
IKR--a lot of victims of DV resort to alcohol to cope and end up addicted so I take serious issue with that sponsorship situation. Just insanely offensive in my opinion.
And her booze company is also named Betty…the same name as her child.
@@meme-jc5ks that’s a choice
I can forgive people for having bad moments or being snarky (if they try to make up for it), but the refusal to talk about DV during promo of that movie was so obvious and bizarre
It’s the way she acted like it was irrelevant and like…how dare the interviewer bring that up! Such odd behaviour
Agreed--so disappointing and shameful, frankly.
Such a terrible move.
Yesssss omg
The problem with JLO is that she wanted to sell something fake, the marketing is a lie and it's too expensive for what is, the brand had already problems before people start hating her.
@@dhsf5937agree with almost all of this, except people hated jlo way before this.
It’s actually unbelievable how badly she managed to completely and unequivocally fumble * gestures around *
Yes
She had nothing but Ryan. Her career is pointless she could only do fashion few years more. Well, she won’t act much bcs I doubt even if someone hired her, that she wants to play median age and grown ass woman. She played there 23 yer old. 37 year old woman with 4 kids. That is her vain brain and personality.
Honestly, when I first saw these I thought Burts Bees had launched lotions or something 😂
Ahhhh haha
Same!
Me too!! I didn't realise it was BL at all until very recently!!
I thought that, and then the other thing I thought was that they were some cute weights aimed at women looking at getting into fitness.
SO did I!!!!
A JLo Flop.
Pattern Beauty is doing really well. But yeah, the others if they are, are very niche, like Beyonce's line.
In retrospect, Ryan was the one who usually made most appearances fun, not her.
“Bring your friends and wear your florals” to a DV movie. Ma’am!!!!
SO tone deaf.

Blake gives off mean girl energy.
100%
Since like day one and only seems to be getting worse.
Edit: look up “the Blake lively interview that made me want to quit my job” there are also some other RUclipsrs who deep dive this interview when they review her movie.
definitely not a girls-girl
it makes me wonder how can such a mean girl be such close friends with a girls girl taylor swift
I see that, and I agree.
but I also think at least some part of it is that she's a woman and "not allowed" to be funny. not that she is at all, but she and her husband both have the same cadence in those interviews
I didn't know they were married, but after I saw that, I did notice that gosling is also a bit shitty (he did writing work during the writer's strike even though he's part of the union, too). Match made in heaven, I guess.
I agree! She definitely tries to be like Ryan, but it just doesn’t work.
Omfg this comment was brutal! ….but true 🙃

Preserve (her "lifestyle" website) was also creepily focused on this Southern Belle/antebellum South aesthetic. Makes it hard to believe her and Ryan Reynolds when they say the plantation wedding was innocent.

I will never forget how she and her husband got married on a plantation, (her previous website was based around a plantation aesthetic) and only addressed and apologised some 8 years later….
In my opinion I don’t think they care one bit about it. They only gave a fake apology because they were pressured to.
@@AutumnHaunts That's absolutely what happened. Ryan tweeted a performative tweet about the Black Panther movie and he was reminded about their wedding and then issued a saving face apology.

It would've done so well back then, but not anymore. The general aesthetic has changed.

Lol i do it all the time. I’m embarrassed to say he and the Kenough guy are the same person to my brain. (That happens to me with a lot of actors, actually.)
My waist length naturally curly hair actually screamed at ‘anti-conditioning’ 😩 I didn’t know that was a thing but I could never lol
I would stay a couple shampoos, a conditioner, and a mask would be the minimum you could get away with
I have really straight hair and if I don’t condition it gets super tangled and gets extremely dry
Do Conditioning mousses work?
it was seen as very offensive in the US- she barely mentioned DV- didnt share websites, support sites- The director worked closely with DV groups to make sure he did it right, she failed terribly, AND SHE DID NOT DONATE ANY OF THE HAIR PRODUCTS TO DV SHELTERS- so she released a beauty product during movie promotions for a very serious situation, and did not donate to shelters, she barely talked about DV and victims.
@@TheGooglyminotaur I like Teatree stuff it gives a cold sensation like if mint was a feeling

My type 3 curls screamed in terror at the "no conditioner" line 😅

Blake’s hair always looks dry and mangled so I never expected her to launch a hair care line.
Dry and mangled like her sense of humor lol
I also don't see her as a fashion icon..? Her fashion is mid at best, imo
Oh kind of like hyaluronic acid if you don't seal it? Thanks for the tip
Thank you for this! 🙏🏼💖 Useful info.

Or WithCindy! I love a snarky, witty bibliophile.
So I didn't know absolutely anything about that book "It ends with us"', but I will say that the few seconds I could see here and there in ads with the movie trailer lead me to believe it was a very Hallmark-y type romance. I was absolutely baffled when he mentioned the plot actually involves DV.
Colleen Hoover glorifies DV and romantizes it to a disgusting degree.
I hope you’re well and healthy!
She has the same vibe as my friends in hs with wavy hair who would say their hair is “basically naturally curly” and give me advice and then act like I must’ve done it wrong when it didn’t work the same on my actually curly hair lol. She also keeps talking about the movie about DV that she was the main character in as if it is a sill quirky rom com full of hardships instead of a movie that may trigger many people with its dark themes
I hate that any marketing still works, it is the biggest scam ever. I hope there will be a shift to people buying quality not names.

Perfect, just got home and settled down and you've uploaded, best timing ever!
„You’re voting with your money“ - so well said, I’m definitely stealing and using that ❤
Thank goodness, more Welsh content! It's like a mental health massage!
She’s often said that she only plays one type of character, that she can’t get into other character’s heads… so she know she’s a one note fiddle
"Cleaner, 🤮, etc." 😂

Yummier 😵💫
"If you believe in anything" and "you vote with your money" are so important.

Silicone is very good for your hair. It protects your hair from breakage. I feel like the only influencer who knows anything logical hair is Abby Young. She is a certified trichologist like myself so maybe I’m biased.
I highly recommend Lab Muffin's content 👍🏼
Thanks for getting me through colonoscopy prep
😆😆😆 Hope it goes well!
😂
SHAILENE WOODLEY is the one who should be launching a hair care brand, I'd buy that in a heartbeat, that girl has the BEST hair ever❤
TBH i think people call her "the star of gossip girl" bc that's the only thing people remember her being in lmao
Cheered up my dark and miserable evening perfectly x
Cute shirt, James! ❤
Thanks!!
I will wait to try the mask when they are on 75% clearance once they go out of business 😂
Your intro always comforts me so much. Yes. Perfection doesn’t exist. :)
I also just thought of this cheesy next sentence…
….BUT YOU SURE COME CLOSE!
Having a brand flop so fast must be a kind of record
thank u for doing the research on blake lively! i knew abit about her however i didn’t know the lead up to creating the hair brand ! ☺️🙌
I agree. I'm not looking to change my current hair care brands, but would not be opposed if something came along that would give better results, or as good results at a better price. I do not see these products falling into either of these two categories, so I wouldn't be picking them up even if they were on the deeply discounted shelf.
Your skin is glowing and so beautiful! Pleeease drop a routine, if you want to of course ❤️🙏🏼
Love your videos James!!!!
Thank youuuuu!
This is exactly what I needed after a really busy weekend
I love how honest you are!!!
i have thick coarse hair, I only have to wash it once a week so I hardly use conditioner because you use a mask once a week, so it makes more sense for me to just pick the mask as it feels more nourishing since I dont wash my hair so much!
The Thing we love is James explaining dried-things with soothing voice. Alleviating so much worries already🎉
@JamesWelsh You're looking so great! Keep up the good work! If you have any tips to share I would love to hear them! Cheers!
Yessss love that you're talking about this 🎉
Although I agree with everything you’ve said - this haircare line is actually good!
Those bows are precious ❤
I got my lips done, Botox and microneedling this morning so I’m in pain watching you right now😂
Omg haha I hope you don’t swell too much! I always swell and bruise so bad
To be honest, I don’t know anything about Blake Lively apart from knowing she’s a celebrity and *probably* is in movies, but I like your videos, so that’s why I’m here learning about her.
Ahhh haha thank you I appreciate it
Yeah there was another video about this.
Since the haismask opens the hair and the conditioner closes it, it makes sense to use both after another.
the biggest game changer for me was reading 'The Skin Radiance Recipe' by Mrs. D
What that book about?

The only criticism I have about this video is that you mentioned that the main issue people have with the actual products is their packaging while simultaneously pullling up a negative review. And while that review did mention hating the packaging, it also mentioned that the product caused their hair to go from healthy to dandruff, shedding, and oily within 24hrs , a point you didn't mention at all
Heyyyy. Yeah sometimes I don’t mention things if it appears to be a one off / not an overall issue.
@JamesWelsh that's fair! I've seen a couple of reviews saying their hair became really dry after using her products, but I've done basically no research, so I trust your judgment!
