@emergencyawesome I think your question about who Mr Cavill winds up playing has 2 answers really. Who do the fans want him to play and who he wants to play. I would love to see him play Gregor Eisenhorn, besides the character being amazing I think it would make the best use of the TV format. And his adventures cover a broad area of topics and locations giving people new to the content a wide lens of viewing. As far as who I really think Henry Cavil wants to play... Constantine Valdor head of the Adeptus Custodes, he's openly admitted that he it's obsessed with the Custodes and Valdor is the cream of the crop. My issue is and I don't mean this as a knock but Valdor feels more like a blockbuster movie character as opposed to a TV show character. Valdor is the baddest of the bad and as far as powerful imperial characters go only the Primarchs and The Emperor top him. So once you're introduced to the top of the food chain I feel like it'd be harder to convince an audience that the Custodes should be the answer for every imperial battle because everyone else is inferior!
I just got into 40k because of him. Loved all the witcher books and games. So naturally watched the show. Rest is history. I'm very excited for 40k series!
I love Henry and his passion for Warhammer and cannot wait to see what comes out of it. His enthusiasm makes me want to dive headfirst into the whole universe.
Its petty epic. If you don't' know World of Warcraft is essentially a watered down version of their universe to make it more family friendly. If you want real grim dark check it out. Its got a lot of goofy stuff but most of it is apocalyptic and absolutely brutal and grotesque.
This could take the next spot as the second video game Tv series that is actually good right behind Arcane. (not in quality per say, just arcane came first obviously). I truly can’t think of any games that have been done the service being they deserve.

I hope he plays multiple characters. With today's effects artist mixed with today's technology, it should be possible to make him look different enough from character to character. So why wouldn't he be able to play the emperor, an inquisitor, a primarch, or any rank in the imperial guard in multiple series and movies

I was wondering to myself which Primarchs he could be cast as and I kept saying "yup, yes, totally" to all but maybe Vulkan and Jaghatai. I'm not one for forced diversity casting but I do think those roles should be cast by a black man and a Mongolian actor, respectively.
I'd be curious if they will adapt previous or current lore or create an entirely new story arc to drop us into the universe; either will work, and I can see GW maybe releasing new kits based on the characters, units and vehicles based on what shows up in the '40KCU' that Cavill is proposing.

As much as I love Henry and his passion, I hope he gets other producers, writers and a screenwriter who are commited to fulfilling a vision and working with the source material. They don't have to even know the material but as long as they respect it and use their creativity to illustrate the lore in the way it was supposed to be shown with a good story, nothing could go wrong. Henry alone will not be enough for this project to be good, he needs the right people and the right vision.
as a returning WH collector, this is going to be SO good! The lore in WH (both Sigmar and 40K) is amazing. I think Amazon will be brave enough to do this properly. The universe it's in, is BRUTAL

I personally think he'd make an amazing Emperor of man. It'd be awesome if they do not only the unification wars, but also the Horus Heresy as movies, then they could do TV shows about other aspects of 40k, maybe like a series that follows Gaunt's Ghosts, or possibly something more Eisenhorn related or maybe even old Bale eye lol
The thing is. You have to keep in mind how big of an production cost that would be. And how hard ( increased amount of CGI ) that would be to make. I think it would be best if we got too see the best of the imperial guard and just a handful from the trillions of problems they have deal with. And at some point. introduce some space marines, wich could potentially include henry cavill. Doing this more human sized factions like the asuryani, drukhari, tau, even battle sisters, gangs from the hiveworlds etc can be introduced. ending whole trilogies with a tyranid scout party (space ship size) that is still strong enough to pose a huge threat to a planet. Introduce a little band of like 3-4 harlequins going around doing their own neferarious things as one of the Officio Assassinorum is dispatched to try and deal with them. Space marines coming to the rescue or joining the imperial guards last stand etc. You see this gets big really quickly XD. Just saying we should avoid the emperor of man, primarchs, and ALL key figures in the universe until we've gotten a BIG following for all the fundamental stuff of W40K down. wich might be 40 years down the line :P
He's forced to sit on the Golden Throne in 40k since it's basically a giant life support device and psychic amplifier, and he was mortally wounded by Horus at the end of the Horus Heresy. In 30k he was gallivanting around the galaxy with his massive legions reuniting humanity. Also, he's not really all powerful. In 30k he was for sure the strongest human and at least made the gods of chaos pay attention to him, but in 40k his soul is extremely splintered from being tortured by the throne for 10,000 years, and despite that he's super souped up from all the faith the empire is sending his way. He could probably solo any 1 of the gods, but the other 3 wouldn't let him, and they're also not united enough to attack him.
There are 30 episodes worth of tv show in the Eisenhorn trilogy alone. I would love to see Henry play Gregor and it makes the most sense as a series and starting point. Lots of great characters and adventures. Lots of mostly grounded storytelling, easy to follow and get invested in, and not all just giant unstoppable space marines and god powered beings. Eisenhorn is more of a detective/drama with twists and turns, it even has an interesting love story angle. The Emperor protects.

My son and I used to paint Warhammer figures together when he was around ten. He’s nearly 40 now but I still miss those days! I am looking forward to seeing Henry Cavill in Warhammer now doubt at all that he will be great in his role.

My favourite IP (WH40k) meets my favourite fandom movie/TV show reviewer (you!). Thanks for covering this, I love you're videos! Since I never got in to comic reading, but love the MCU in particular (and also DC movies), I really enjoy how you fill in the gaps in my knowledge, highlight easter eggs, explain lore, etc. It's also a little funny listening to you explain WH to laypeople, you did a great job... just something I never really hear. I'm much more learned in the WH40k universe and am really excited to see what Henry can do. When you quote him saying ""as of yet, unseen" - I believe isn't that they haven't mnade it yet, moreso he's referring to the fact that WH cinematic universe has a short and patchy history. There are tonnes of books, some comics and now over the last few years, some animated TV shows on WH+. Aside from the earlier and often ignored attempts (which were horrible animated shows), there are only a few short animated TV shows produced. Some started as fanfic on RUclips, then GW essentially threatened them / gave them an ultimatum and brought some internal to work on official content. So to me "fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen" is referring to something new and at another level. I understand Henry's work will also be live-action, which is what will be brand new (and another level), as all other cinematic creations have been 100% animated and no live-action. In addition to it, the TV shows and movies will be much longer in screen time and larger in scale compared to what WH+ has produced. I'm not sure how much across the WH universes you are. Aside from signing up and listening to lore masters and the shows inside WH+, Leutin09 is universally acclaimed as an awesome independent lore content creator. There are many many hours of videos he produces on all manner of 40k. He doesn't cover WH Age of Sigmar (the fantasy version) though.
I remember years ago when he was on the show. The tudors playing the right hand man to the king and I knew then Henry Cavill was gonna go places... Yes, so very talented, intelligent and just a nice decent human, so good for him. Couldn't be a better dude to be involved with a Warhammer 40 K live action can't wait
This is very exciting news. The Warhammer universe has hundreds of novels, a varied suite of games, models and even some recent animation series on their subscription service. Even though they are a tabletop game company, that's far too simplistic of a description. Now... if I was Henry, I'd look really hard at Alpharius for 40K. That would allow him to show up Pre and Post Heresy and never have any one know if he's just another Marine or actually the Primarch. If not, he needs to be an Inquisitor and just show up everywhere. He could also voice a Necron and Mechanicum hero and no one would know with a little autotune applied. For the fantasy setting, he needs to play Louencor for pre-End Times. I'd suggest a Freeguild Inquisitor as well for A.o.S. Heck. Make the character a Perpetual and you could have him show up in anything. Gosh I love Warhammer!
@@runamuck840 I don't think they should show the Emperor yet. That would be the equivalent of blowing your load too early. But yea, a Custodian or Primarch role would suit him well.
I think the most interesting arc to me would be the search/war of all the emperors sons with the emperor. But to make it engaging you would have to start season 1 a little before the betrayal to establish how it was "before"
Episode 1 the Big E is wrapping things up on Terra and towards the end the Ruinous Powers snatch the premi primarchs. Each episode after that is dedicated to each Primarch being found and their chapter. At the end of the last episode have Garvy saying his line from the opening of the Horus Heresy.
This is probably already been stated, but he’d make an amazing Caiaphus Cain. And that series alone would be more than enough material for multiple seasons of an Amazon show. If he does want to play another character afterwords, and does a good job with the good commissar im sure fans won’t complain about seeing him in another role.
He's perfect for roles that are unfortunately handled wrong on the creative sides of things - Snyder's dark, emo Superman; The Witcher catapulting from the source material.
It's unfortunate, the circumstances that led to his departures. But I am excited to see his first creator-originated project for something he truly has loved his entire life.

For those who don't know what Warhammer 40K is.... It's not just explosions and powerarmor. It is precisely as much the horror movie Event Horizon as it is Starship Troopers and Judge Dredd. A cinematic universe here can produce outrageously excellent stories in so many genres. Action/Adventures of course leading the way, but also horror. Mind-twisting, blood-curling horror.

I swear Warhammer 40K is a series that has the potential to be the biggest Phenomenon in geek culture ever. Seriously 40K is what you get when you merge Halo,Star wars and Game of thrones together and it utterly crushes all of them in both its Size and scope and it’s Characters are iconic and legendary without there even being a proper adaptation yet. just look at the Horus Heresy that makes the Entire House of the dragon storyline look petty and pathetic. But unlike Star Wars or Game of thrones it isn’t just one singular narrative 40K is a setting not a single self contained Story which means that Henry has something that so many of the likes of Disney and whatnot truly want which is free reign to literally do anything, the only thing Henry needs to do to stay Faithful Is follow established lore and even then 40K gives a lot of leeway unlike so many other IPs. What’s funny as well is that it’s an IP that is seemingly immune to bad writing because its foundation of world building is so consistent and so absurdly massive.
You say that but it’s ip like this that’s quite hard to bring to live action. Cuz in some way everyone has an interpretation of the lore, looks and who characters should be. But I’m hopeful tho

The last Kingdom show is a perfect example of how you deviate from the source material but yet still remain faithful. which is why it should not just be a live action adaptation but animated as well Like Star Wars (game of thrones should have been an animated show as well) Not to mention that Space Marine 2 is coming out next year off which will lead the way to provide insight to how you bring 40k to our screens.

I think the easiest, first thing for them to do is either Esienhorn or Gaunts Ghosts. Something grounded in humanish first, I think you need to get people into it before you start showing space marines. Although i would love for them to do a Horus Heresy movie series, but a simpler story would be best for a first jump into the universe.
since I'm not a gamer (and don't foresee becoming one) I don't really know anything about Warhammer, game, series, movie, etc. I fully understand why he left the Witcher series since I'm sure he wanted some creative input in projects he's working on.
Once you go down the dark road of learning about the Warhammer 40k universe, it’s like going down an adrenaline fueled rabbit blackhole where there is no escape back to the normal fantasy world. It sucks you all in completely. It’s one hell of a rich IP universe. You scratch your head and wonder how you’ve never heard of it. RUclips is full of Warhammer 40k lore. You can start at Bricky for 40k lore, he has some primer starter vids, two good ones specifically. Then you can graduate up to Luetin09 as the master lore story teller of Warhammer 40k vids. Be warned that Warhammer 40k vids are NOT short. They are lore rich and long, but damn fascinating.
There’s a big warhammer 40k scene in Australia too. I imagine most of them are trying to punch their screens just to get at you; for saying it’s a British thing.. fyi.

This movie or show is going to be a big boost for the game. I remember seeing the Games Workshop store as a kid where my Grandma lives. I went in once or twice expecting video games, but never understood what it was. Only now (some 20 years later) I realise that it was this. That store is unfortunately closed.
I hope I’m wrong-but I don’t think there’s any way to portray the size/speed/strength of Astartes and Custodes in live action. Only high end animation can. So much of Warhammer 40K is super sized that rubber costumes just won’t work.
Dan Abnett stories please! I want to see Eisenhorn focused on. It's a great starting point as all of the awesome stuff in WH40K can be talked about and bait the audience to get engaged. I think that Horus Heresy might not be a palatable origin story for the average moviegoer.

I still can’t think of a starting point, but I just know they’re knocking it out of the park. He can adapt bloodlines, the Eisenhorn trilogy, anything relating the heresy. And he can build up all the way into Cadia’s fall and Guilliman’s revival
He's gonna run the heresy start to finish, it's complete, great, and full of characters to use to branch off of later, Garro becoming a Grey Knight being one

Stay off HH for years, wait untill everything is out (end and death part 3 and potential after stories) and take a long time rewriting it so it fits the cinematic experience. Im about 10 years into 40k... Hes gotta do something with space marines. They are the iconic angels of destruction. 8 foot tall surgically enhanced humans in power armor. There is a new game coming out in September 2024 - Space Marine 2. Itll give you an idea of what they are like. The main character is voiced by the actor who played Rollo in Vikings
They did him so dirty and he's still a class act it's sad to see him hang up the cape and the sword but it shows you that taking the high road could lead you to your dreams or passion in life so I'm happy for him
For this, I don't want Cavill to play any role. I would much rather he oversee the content to make sure it remains consistently in line with the lore - and to be the fan voice on the project who has veto over any of the other executive decisions, which are often aimed more at marketing and less at product excellence. Given Cavill's love of the universe, he's too important to waste on a simple role, when his voice on set would constrain some of the dumber creatives from ruining the franchise launch into TV and cinema.

I hope he plays multiple characters. With today's effects artist mixed with today's technology, it should be possible to make him look different enough from character to character. So why wouldn't he be able to play the emperor, an inquisitor, a primarch, or any rank in the imperial guard in multiple series and movies

I was wondering to myself which Primarchs he could be cast as and I kept saying "yup, yes, totally" to all but maybe Vulkan and Jaghatai. I'm not one for forced diversity casting but I do think those roles should be cast by a black man and a Mongolian actor, respectively.

I'd be curious if they will adapt previous or current lore or create an entirely new story arc to drop us into the universe; either will work, and I can see GW maybe releasing new kits based on the characters, units and vehicles based on what shows up in the '40KCU' that Cavill is proposing.

As much as I love Henry and his passion, I hope he gets other producers, writers and a screenwriter who are commited to fulfilling a vision and working with the source material. They don't have to even know the material but as long as they respect it and use their creativity to illustrate the lore in the way it was supposed to be shown with a good story, nothing could go wrong. Henry alone will not be enough for this project to be good, he needs the right people and the right vision.
He literally tweeted that he's looking for producers and writers. You just told him what to do and he's already two steps ahead of you.

It'd be awesome if they do not only the unification wars, but also the Horus Heresy as movies, then they could do TV shows about other aspects of 40k, maybe like a series that follows Gaunt's Ghosts, or possibly something more Eisenhorn related or maybe even old Bale eye lol
The thing is. You have to keep in mind how big of an production cost that would be. And how hard ( increased amount of CGI ) that would be to make. I think it would be best if we got too see the best of the imperial guard and just a handful from the trillions of problems they have deal with. And at some point. introduce some space marines, wich could potentially include henry cavill. Doing this more human sized factions like the asuryani, drukhari, tau, even battle sisters, gangs from the hiveworlds etc can be introduced. ending whole trilogies with a tyranid scout party (space ship size) that is still strong enough to pose a huge threat to a planet. Introduce a little band of like 3-4 harlequins going around doing their own neferarious things as one of the Officio Assassinorum is dispatched to try and deal with them. Space marines coming to the rescue or joining the imperial guards last stand etc. You see this gets big really quickly XD. Just saying we should avoid the emperor of man, primarchs, and ALL key figures in the universe until we've gotten a BIG following for all the fundamental stuff of W40K down. wich might be 40 years down the line :P

He's forced to sit on the Golden Throne in 40k since it's basically a giant life support device and psychic amplifier, and he was mortally wounded by Horus at the end of the Horus Heresy. In 30k he was gallivanting around the galaxy with his massive legions reuniting humanity. Also, he's not really all powerful. In 30k he was for sure the strongest human and at least made the gods of chaos pay attention to him, but in 40k his soul is extremely splintered from being tortured by the throne for 10,000 years, and despite that he's super souped up from all the faith the empire is sending his way. He could probably solo any 1 of the gods, but the other 3 wouldn't let him, and they're also not united enough to attack him.

There are 30 episodes worth of tv show in the Eisenhorn trilogy alone. I would love to see Henry play Gregor and it makes the most sense as a series and starting point. Lots of great characters and adventures. Lots of mostly grounded storytelling, easy to follow and get invested in, and not all just giant unstoppable space marines and god powered beings. Eisenhorn is more of a detective/drama with twists and turns, it even has an interesting love story angle. The Emperor protects.

Thanks for covering this, I love you're videos! Since I never got in to comic reading, but love the MCU in particular (and also DC movies), I really enjoy how you fill in the gaps in my knowledge, highlight easter eggs, explain lore, etc.
It's also a little funny listening to you explain WH to laypeople, you did a great job... just something I never really hear.
I'm much more learned in the WH40k universe and am really excited to see what Henry can do. When you quote him saying ""as of yet, unseen" - I believe isn't that they haven't mnade it yet, moreso he's referring to the fact that WH cinematic universe has a short and patchy history. There are tonnes of books, some comics and now over the last few years, some animated TV shows on WH+. Aside from the earlier and often ignored attempts (which were horrible animated shows), there are only a few short animated TV shows produced. Some started as fanfic on RUclips, then GW essentially threatened them / gave them an ultimatum and brought some internal to work on official content. So to me "fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen" is referring to something new and at another level. I understand Henry's work will also be live-action, which is what will be brand new (and another level), as all other cinematic creations have been 100% animated and no live-action. In addition to it, the TV shows and movies will be much longer in screen time and larger in scale compared to what WH+ has produced.
I'm not sure how much across the WH universes you are. Aside from signing up and listening to lore masters and the shows inside WH+, Leutin09 is universally acclaimed as an awesome independent lore content creator. There are many many hours of videos he produces on all manner of 40k. He doesn't cover WH Age of Sigmar (the fantasy version) though.

I remember years ago when he was on the show. The tudors playing the right hand man to the king and I knew then Henry Cavill was gonna go places... This is very exciting news. The Warhammer universe has hundreds of novels, a varied suite of games, models and even some recent animation series on their subscription service. Even though they are a tabletop game company, that's far too simplistic of a description. Now... if I was Henry, I'd look really hard at Alpharius for 40K. That would allow him to show up Pre and Post Heresy and never have any one know if he's just another Marine or actually the Primarch. If not, he needs to be an Inquisitor and just show up everywhere. He could also voice a Necron and Mechanicum hero and no one would know with a little autotune applied. For the fantasy setting, he needs to play Louencor for pre-End Times. I'd suggest a Freeguild Inquisitor as well for A.o.S. Heck. Make the character a Perpetual and you could have him show up in anything. Gosh I love Warhammer!

I think the most interesting arc to me would be the search/war of all the emperors sons with the emperor. But to make it engaging you would have to start season 1 a little before the betrayal to establish how it was "before"
Episode 1 the Big E is wrapping things up on Terra and towards the end the Ruinous Powers snatch the premi primarchs. Each episode after that is dedicated to each Primarch being found and their chapter. At the end of the last episode have Garvy saying his line from the opening of the Horus Heresy.
This is probably already been stated, but he’d make an amazing Caiaphus Cain. And that series alone would be more than enough material for multiple seasons of an Amazon show. If he does want to play another character afterwords, and does a good job with the good commissar im sure fans won’t complain about seeing him in another role.
He's perfect for roles that are unfortunately handled wrong on the creative sides of things - Snyder's dark, emo Superman; The Witcher catapulting from the source material.
It's unfortunate, the circumstances that led to his departures. But I am excited to see his first creator-originated project for something he truly has loved his entire life.

For those who don't know what Warhammer 40K is.... It's not just explosions and powerarmor.
It is precisely as much the horror movie Event Horizon as it is Starship Troopers and Judge Dredd.
A cinematic universe here can produce outrageously excellent stories in so many genres. Action/Adventures of course leading the way, but also horror. Mind-twisting, blood-curling horror.
That's *_quite_* the combination of tones - it'd need a deft touch to not come off wrong, no...?

I swear Warhammer 40K is a series that has the potential to be the biggest Phenomenon in geek culture ever.
Seriously 40K is what you get when you merge Halo,Star wars and Game of thrones together and it utterly crushes all of them in both its Size and scope and it’s Characters are iconic and legendary without there even being a proper adaptation yet.
just look at the Horus Heresy that makes the Entire House of the dragon storyline look petty and pathetic.
But unlike Star Wars or Game of thrones it isn’t just one singular narrative 40K is a setting not a single self contained Story which means that Henry has something that so many of the likes of Disney and whatnot truly want which is free reign to literally do anything, the only thing Henry needs to do to stay Faithful
Is follow established lore and even then 40K gives a lot of leeway unlike so many other IPs.
What’s funny as well is that it’s an IP that is seemingly immune to bad writing because its foundation of world building is so consistent and so absurdly massive.

I think the easiest, first thing for them to do is either Esienhorn or Gaunts Ghosts. Something grounded in humanish first, I think you need to get people into it before you start showing space marines. Although i would love for them to do a Horus Heresy movie series, but a simpler story would be best for a first jump into the universe.
Eisenhorn, Guants Ghosts, or Caiphas Cain would all make for a good start.

since I'm not a gamer (and don't foresee becoming one) I don't really know anything about Warhammer, game, series, movie, etc. I fully understand why he left the Witcher series since I'm sure he wanted some creative input in projects he's working on.
Once you go down the dark road of learning about the Warhammer 40k universe, it’s like going down an adrenaline fueled rabbit blackhole where there is no escape back to the normal fantasy world. It sucks you all in completely. It’s one hell of a rich IP universe. You scratch your head and wonder how you’ve never heard of it. RUclips is full of Warhammer 40k lore. You can start at Bricky for 40k lore, he has some primer starter vids, two good ones specifically. Then you can graduate up to Luetin09 as the master lore story teller of Warhammer 40k vids. Be warned that Warhammer 40k vids are NOT short. They are lore rich and long, but damn fascinating.
There’s a big warhammer 40k scene in Australia too. I imagine most of them are trying to punch their screens just to get at you; for saying it’s a British thing.. fyi.

I hope I’m wrong-but I don’t think there’s any way to portray the size/speed/strength of Astartes and Custodes in live action. Only high end animation can. So much of Warhammer 40K is super sized that rubber costumes just won’t work.

I want to see Eisenhorn focused on. It's a great starting point as all of the awesome stuff in WH40K can be talked about and bait the audience to get engaged. I think that Horus Heresy might not be a palatable origin story for the average moviegoer.

I still can’t think of a starting point, but I just know they’re knocking it out of the park. He can adapt bloodlines, the Eisenhorn trilogy, anything relating the heresy. And he can build up all the way into Cadia’s fall and Guilliman’s revival

Techincally its not done, and imo it will be rewritten to fit into a cinematic universe.
Stay off HH for years, wait untill everything is out (end and death part 3 and potential after stories) and take a long time rewriting it so it fits the cinematic experience.

They need to focus on lesser powerful entity like imperium infantry squad with ogryn following some high ranking operation to daemonic warp gates , having focus on character too over powered like a primarch will kill the suspension between episodes because you know the primarch is just going to obliterate every threat they look at in seconds.

Im about 10 years into 40k... Hes gotta do something with space marines. They are the iconic angels of destruction. 8 foot tall surgically enhanced humans in power armor. There is a new game coming out in September 2024 - Space Marine 2. Itll give you an idea of what they are like. The main character is voiced by the actor who played Rollo in Vikings

They did him so dirty and he's still a class act it's sad to see him hang up the cape and the sword but it shows you that taking the high road could lead you to your dreams or passion in life so I'm happy for him

I would much rather he oversee the content to make sure it remains consistently in line with the lore - and to be the fan voice on the project who has veto over any of the other executive decisions, which are often aimed more at marketing and less at product excellence.
Given Cavill's love of the universe, he's too important to waste on a simple role, when his voice on set would constrain some of the dumber creatives from ruining the franchise launch into TV and cinema.
