I had watched Sam Parsons' brilliant video last year but had a hard time hearing him and wrapping my mind around the logic. You explained it supremely well. Thank you!

Sam is brilliant for dreaming up this technique. I wanted to offer an alternative explanation after being inspired by Zainab's Tableau Public viz. It feels good when people get some value out of my vids! Thank you for sharing!

This is excellent! I can't believe how creative people get with Tableau. Really appreciate the step-by-step approach to this

Full credit to Sam Parsons for the technique development and Zainab Ayodimeji for the inspiration. On my end, trying to figure out how to reverse engineer and explain it took some time!

I appreciate the feedback on the explanation! Make sure to check out Sam Parsons's original video as well (link in description). There are many more chart options to choose from.

Excellent work!!!...please it's difficult to use another data set to follow through with this tutorial, is there a way to have access to this particular data?

    Thanks!, This is very helpful
    I have one question
If rather than two lines in table, we have more like Sales, Profit, Discount, Orders etc. then how can we differentiate the lines in table ?
And also if rather than product, we are showing monthwise data like Jan 2024, Feb 2024 etc.

I tried making a similar table on tableau however whenever I add a sparkline, it causes the bar charts to switch from a horizontal to a vertical position.

How can we have more than 2 trend charts?

  • @AllisonRosenbaum

Very clear instructions! I'm learning a lot from your tutorials. However, I can't find a way to make a bullet chart on Tableau Public. I don't see an option for a fixed size when building the bar chart; is this something that's only possible on Tableau Desktop?

This is a great video and in-depth explanation! thank you! A quick question, do you know how to modify column widths individually? It appears that every time I try, it changes the width for all columns but Sam Parson was able to on his. Not sure how he did it!

Since i don't have this data, I am trying this with Sample super store, I created the Current Year calculated field, but i cannot create the Current Year Sales' calculated field, the problem lies over the case statement "if year([Order Date]) = [CY] then [Sales] else null end" i am getting the follwoing two errors:
    1. Cannot mix aggregate and non aggregate arguments with this function.
    2. Cannot mix aggregate and non aggregate comparisons or results in 'if' expressions

    • @AnthonySmoak
      @AnthonySmoak  Год назад +1

I can comment on your specific data but aggregate issues are usually resolved by using the ATTR function. Play around with ATTR for the Year and SUM for the sales. community.tableau.com/s/question/0D54T000019ux1ESAQ/how-to-get-around-calculated-field-not-allowing-to-mix-aggregate-and-nonaggregate-values

@@AnthonySmoak really appreciate your quick response. I just watched your video again and found out that while defining the CY calculated field i forgot to put them in the braces { }, it works perfect now. Thanks again
