This will always be THE best video representation of how good the entire east coast can actually get. I'll probably NEVER see waves like this again in my lifetime, but I'm glad to see these waves were at least archived.
Check out Halloween swell 1991 I was there they call it the biggest East Coast has ever seen Surfer magazine said 20 foot monsters crash Florida coastline there's a nice video on it the video was shot at RC Satellite Beach I was 17 years old and my Prime it was definitely the best day of Surfing I've ever had nothing like dropping in on a wave and when you bought them turn and look down the Wave It's like a mountain of water I can still feel the Stoke to this day and I'm 45
Oh man I’m 13 crying over these this break is like an hour away from me. I was 4 when sandy rolled through. I hope something similar rolls through again
I really don't know how many times I have watched this insane video. I was there, Reef Road and Pump House. HANDSDAOWN BEST EAST COAST SURF SPOT WHEN IT IS PUMPING!!!!! THANKS!!
Major credit due to the photographers and filmers of this edit. This video is the pinnacle of Florida and its surfing heritage. The spirit and courage Hurricane Sandy demanded is perfectly captured. The filmers used state of the art equipment and put themselves at the top locations, with the top surfers, and nailed the shots. You guys have truly executed something that few will ever do in their lives and I'm so grateful to be able to watch this video for the rest of my life. Cheers to you guys.
I lived near Reef Rd from late 60s to early 70s. Of course, Reef is super finicky and inconsistent. However, I remember the summer that Jaws (the movie) came out, they were dredging the inlet and pumping the sand over to the Reef Rd side of the jetty. They created an island that somehow harnessed the minimal summer wave energy into a surfable shorebreak that peeled around this miniature island. We'd paddle out to the island (freaked about Jaws - I was about 12) and stay and surf that island all day. I moved to San Diego CA a year later (where I lived the next nearly 50 years) and surfed some great waves in my life, but respect always for Reef Rd!
3:07. I say that's the best tube in the history of florida surfing. I've never seen anything better, in the water or on the interwebs. that's just insane. deep. that looks like cory lopez. no one's ever been deeper in good old baking hot two foot mushburger florida.
Hello! I've been a fan of yours ever since I first saw this video back in 2012 or 2013. It was the most aesthetically pleasingly cinematographic surf video I had seen up until that point and it raised the bar in what I thought was possible with A-V surfing content. I think it is still one of my top pics for most aesthetically pleasingly cinematographic surf video, all these years later. So, bravo for taking a chance on a surf video with tons of slo-mo footage. You pulled it off because your aesthetic is great. Also, thanks for introducting me to Adventure Club and my descent into the rabbit hole of modern electronica music. And, lastly, thanks for inspiring to pick up my DSLR and my GoPro and to get out there and shoot some land, air, and, most importantly: humans playing with gravity playing with water.
Looks like some Brett Barley type barrels. Got to be Pumphouse with some Reef Road thrown in there. They say FL doesn't get waves, but they forget we are In hurricane alley. I live in the panhandle area and you just have to know when and where to go.
So sick. I can watch this over and over. Captured the emotion of good ole Sandy perfectly with the slow motion and song choice. I wish South Fla had waves like this on tap on the reg. Amazing swell. Amazing Video.
Never understood why people hate on slow motion so much, especially in surf vids. I think it looks awesome; you got the complex movement of the water and it allows you to see the subtle adjustments the surfer makes.
2:47 has to best waves I’ve ever seen on the east coast. The problem with east coast is it’s 90% close out beach breaks. It’ll get some swell, especially in hurricane season, but everything has to be perfect to get waves like in this video. I’ve lived in San Diego for 2 years and grew up on the east coast and the surf in SoCal never gets that big (7-8 foot max). It is more consistent than the east coast and there’s less heavy onshore wind that ruins a lot of the swell the east coast does get. I loved living in SoCal but don’t move there for the surf. I moved to San Diego after having spent a winter on Oahu and think that’s why it seemed like such a let down surfing wise. If I had come straight from the east coast it would’ve seemed way more impressive. Anyway, awesome east coast video!
I’m pretty sure the surfer getting barreled at 2:20 dodging the surfboard was Chris ward.. I had a poster of it back in the day. Still have it somewhere but when I was 20 in my little beach shack bachelor of it was all covered In surf posters
2:18 and 2:50 has to be a Floridian. The dude drops into 20 ft wave and barreled with his 5'11". Guys out west probably have boards for days like this. Florida may be you have two. One for every day and a fish or long board for small summer days. These guys are sick and paddling out in to that kind of size in Florida is no joke.
man 2:10-3:10 are insane like 15-25 footers man! insane! i love it down here, rarely does it get like that but when it does its beautiful! flogrown baby!
I remember this hurricane! I was visiting Miami Beach, then I went to Daytona, then we visited Rolando! We were down there for about a week visiting. That place was awesome!
Wish I could double or even triple like this video!! It was the best I've ever seen Florida in my entire life living there. 28 years and no other swell like this was ever seen in Florida with these two eyes.
Looks like Pumphouse, Reefroad, and Rc's maybe. NSB was lown out on the biggest day of Sandy. drove to Cocoa and scored pretty well very clean . Wish that day I would have drove a liitle further south but when I saw Cocoa I had to get wet.
+tweak800 Pretty much correct, except you are getting RC's mixed up with South Beach. RC's is very mushy wave, its nowhere near as hollow as south beach is. I'm just wondering how Monster Hole was during this day!!!
Absolute brilliance! Epic filming, timing on slow-mo/musicmatch calibration. F%&king Epic Surf across the Inlet I am so frothing for a Hurricane to Give us a hug again now. Surfers pray for hurricanes, yes, but we pray that they come into the swell window and pitch a tent, take there time giving a huge fetch then a lot of offshore days never touching land while slowly meandering around from south to north because ya gotta go left too. I love this Video
Amen with that man, and that's from a Texas Surfer here, the tropics isn't all we get, but here in Texas we live by those same rules with hurricanes and tropical storms, we snatch it up also Everyone of us surfers knows the risk. One slip up can end it all or you surface feeling more alive then ever A reminder to respect mother nature. It's the number one rule. Respecting Others from where they surf I wish was another. Nice surfing Florida! Wonderful videography as well! Good job guys!
What? No way. Southern California is consistent and bigger. East Coast only gets big during hurricanes and you can't even paddle out half the time. If both coasts get the best possible swell then Southern Cali is gonna be bigger.
no way bro not even close look at the videos of hurricane sandy surfing in Florida or Hurricane Irene or Hurricane Arthur just recently. The east coast gets way bigger. From the hurricanes and yes you can paddle out just fine if u go out at the right time and you have some strength. Also the nor'easter bring in huge waves through out the winter when the water is 40 degrees.
Dude if anything Jersey, OBX or Montauk NY is the biggest on the east coast with FL on a RARE hurricane occasion like sandy, with barely overhead conditions and only a handful of times. The Wedge, Trestles, Oceanside, Blacks Beach, Windansea, La Jolla Cove, Sunset Cliffs, are just a handful of the spots that hit 15-25ft multiple times every winter. And if not is at least 4-6ft 2/3 of the winter.
Unfortunately you're wrong here Numz. The east coast can get big, but SoCal outruns the east coast in size and consistency. There are some powerful swells that roll in from time to time.. I mean look at North and South OC right now.. Wedge should be pumping some 20ft waves tomorrow no problem. I was just down there today actually.
Great stuff! Some absolute BOMBS in there. Can I ask what camera you were using? Looks slow and clear enough to be a Phantom. Whatever it is, you used it well. Really nice production.
Man. As someone who paddled his arms off for sandy. From jupiter to Miami. For days.... t The documentation means so much to me... I just get conveniently reconfirm that yes... it was that good. Good enough to where there could be no excuse to miss it... Miami was sinking with the high tide... seawater flooding the streets... florida barrels that would rival any wave in the galaxy. Days and days. Spots with no names. . Fek
the inside breaks around here mostly are a big sinkhole now too all the dredging... and they never recover idk if its like that everywhere because of the rising seas or what...
This is the best put-together video of Florida surfing I've seen on RUclips. I've watched it at least 20 times. - Bad ass, period.
Totally agree man, Since i first saw it a few years ago, I still look it up and watch it every once in a while! lol
This shit is amazing.
Lol didn’t even know Florida had good surf
Still coming back to show people the East can be a beast. 2020
This and the one Dasher did are sick!
This will always be THE best video representation of how good the entire east coast can actually get. I'll probably NEVER see waves like this again in my lifetime, but I'm glad to see these waves were at least archived.

Once in a lifetime swell truly
Oh man I’m 13 crying over these this break is like an hour away from me. I was 4 when sandy rolled through. I hope something similar rolls through again
You right never see pipes like that anywhere on the east can't believe it's been ten years already
I really don't know how many times I have watched this insane video. I was there, Reef Road and Pump House. HANDSDAOWN BEST EAST COAST SURF SPOT WHEN IT IS PUMPING!!!!! THANKS!!
The best part of this video is hearing the shutter clicking off the chain as the guy is pulling into the barrel at pumphouse. Epic, love it!
2 years and still my favourite surf video
same
facts
still watching as i go to south beach to surf this hurricane
@@olivergrimes6145yooo I was there that swell
Florida has some of the best surfers on earth. This video had more impressive makes and maneuvers than most pro surf edits
best surf edit ever made. idk how many times i’ve watched this for the past 6-7 years
I remember watching this video right when it was uploaded. God damn, just as epic as the first time I watched it 11 years ago.
Major credit due to the photographers and filmers of this edit. This video is the pinnacle of Florida and its surfing heritage. The spirit and courage Hurricane Sandy demanded is perfectly captured. That swell stuck around for nearly a week. I got some amazing shots out front of Palm Beach Country Club
I wish south beach could be like this every day. Loved the waves.
I was freaking out the first time I saw this video. Absolutely stunning
One of the best surf videos on youtube. Period.

Excellent Video! Fabulous waves for South Florida and I've been around for 60 years...
Nice...we had a swell like that back in the late 80 @ New Smyrna/Ponce inlet. Fantastic lefts all day...

Such amazing synch with the wave/music/slowmo. Artistry.

this is the best South FL surfing footage I've ever seen - I loved the slow mo !
So sick. I can watch this over and over. Captured the emotion of good ole Sandy perfectly with the slow motion and song choice. I wish South Fla had waves like this on tap on the reg. Amazing swell. Amazing Video.
This will always be my favorite surf video of South Florida. Still mind blown by the size of the waves at Pump House
Never understood why people hate on slow motion so much, especially in surf vids. I think it looks awesome; you got the complex movement of the water and it allows you to see the subtle adjustments the surfer makes.
This is my favorite surfing video

hard to believe this is south FL. Some great waves in the footage!!

Casey Skipper Absolutely, first thing I noticed is the size of the board. Only advantage is for duckdive. He may have been towed into it as well.
2:18- Chris Ward
2:48- Evan Geiselman
2:51 -Peter Mendia
Pretty sure they were towed. Looks like pump house
What size board would you use
Casey Skipper My quiver is currently 4 going on 5 and I'm in Florida
I've just been sitting here smiling like an idiot looking at those waves- best barrels that I've seen in FL
man 2:10-3:10 are insane like 15-25 footers man! insane! i love it down here, rarely does it get like that but when it does its beautiful! flogrown baby!

2:10-3:20 looking like big Indo. Really incredible
Absolute brilliance! Epic filming, timing on slow-mo/musicmatch calibration. F%&king Epic Surf across the Inlet I am so frothing for a Hurricane to Give us a hug again now. those swells are beautiful.
East Coast gets much bigger then Southern Cali, but Southern Cali is way more consistent. The East Coast gets a swell and last about 3 days.

you've obviously never surfed in san diego for a full season

This video deserves more credit so stoked yeeeew
god dam that last wave was literally perfect I cant wait for a hurricane!!!
Great stuff! Some absolute BOMBS in there. Can I ask what camera you were using? Looks slow and clear enough to be a Phantom. Whatever it is, you used it well. Really nice production.
