    You are the placebo. "If your thoughts can make you sick, can your thoughts make you healthy". Absolutely!

      So if rat poison can make me sick, rat poison can make me healthy? It's only logical....

    I Agree with what this guy is saying 110%. Learned helplessness, in my opinion, is a casualty of the society we live in. We often weigh things in either success or failure because if we don't succeed our dreams and our ways of life maybe threatened. When we do not perform well we "cattle prod" ourselves to death with negative self talk in hopes to prevent a failure from happening again when in fact the exact opposite occurs.

      I don’t want to contradict your view of the way this was portrayed but learned helplessness, to how I interpreted it at least, far extends whatever “society” can affect on us. The speaker even references the Holocaust for goodness sake. Most of the people identifying with this, are those from broken homes. Saying such a simplistic thing and conflating it (not “succeeding”) to someone who was emotionally and or physically abused’s idea of learned helplessness is just barbaric to me.

      He has a very wrong view of medications. They aren't a replacement for your own resilience. They are a tool to assist you to "readjust your nerve pathways" in his words. It's more like giving someone a good pair of shoes for a tough running race. It doesn't teleport you to the finish line it just makes it easier to run. Source - I'm a psychiatrist

    Too many people on medication for mild to moderate anxiety and depression is a massive problem in mental healthcare system in Western countries.

    Very interesting subject that young people should be more familiar with. Its refreshing not having to listen to some guy drone on some nonsensical tangents to sound smart. These are basic truths that people forget quite often and I'm glad this guy is here to remind us.

      Lemon Chief But you are thinking about how you would interact with it. That's like saying there's no difference between "The glass is half full." and "The glass is half empty." You're still thinking about the same thing, but how you are thinking about it is significantly different.

    Absolutely agree with him on psychotherapy and focusing on past events because you only dwell on them longer. However, being a pessimist through and through I cant imagine myself ever being optimistic as this leads to hope which is really dangerous.

    • @Goodbyeeveryonehere
      @Goodbyeeveryonehere 5 лет назад

      it doesn't necessarily lead to hope and hope isnt necessarily dangerous. say you are hoping for a particular thing and go along every day wondering if you are going to get the thing you are hoping for. .. you won't know whether you are going to get that thing until the day you die. you won't have much time to be disappointed if you discover on the last day of your life that you won't achieve the thing you were hoping for. Not to mention that positivity is actually healthier for our body. being negative attracts illness

    • @Goodbyeeveryonehere
      @Goodbyeeveryonehere 5 лет назад +1

      plus why hope or be pessimistic? why not live one minute at a,time. living in the moment you experience life as it happens, you don't prepare for bad things or good things. you just live. we can prepare financially for a rainy day etc but beyond that? its a waste of a life to assume everything that happens will be bad and you know what? everything WILL be bad if that's all you're looking for. No one has to be pessimist or optimist to observe life though. listen for the birds singing or look for the flowers hiding where they aren't expected.Where there's no expectation theres no disappointment.

    • @grungepants
      @grungepants 4 года назад +2

      When you say "Being a pessimist through and through" it makes me think that you think you were born a pessimist or that you can't change your pessimist ways. It's the same logic people use when they say "I have alcoholic gene's" which is nonsence.

It helped me to spend a few minutes reflecting on a good memory and helped me come into the presence of God and then actually helped me in my work. - poodlesusan - please do bring to mind other happy memories- try to hold it for 15 seconds - stay with it- and bit by bit you might get to hold the memory for abit longer. Youcan if you do this and want more help recalling some happy times maybe times when you are grateful etc just write them doan and use the list to do the 15 seconds..it will make a difference if you do it

    YOU are playing with the words. Tell a narcissist or a borderline or a psychotic or a bipolar who is having manic episode to think positively. You may get smacked. Stop giving people half truth. I do not say that doesn't work but it is not the whole truth.

      @@reverse_meta9264 The rest of the truth is that ability to digest food & gut bacteria highly influence ruminative thinking. Remove serotonin as much as you can, negative self thoughts reduce significantly. Prevent the thoughts at the root, the less you have to practice CBT to overcome these issues. Research Ray Peat.
