- A Davis Senior High School student received a perfect score on his SAT exam. Apurva Mishra's father called KCRA 3 when the results arrived, ecstatic that his son scored a 1600 score, placing him in the 99th percentile in the nation among test-takers. He also got every single question correct. The College Board, which administers the exam, told KCRA 3 only "a fraction of a percent" of test takers earn a perfect score. "It was a really surprising thing for me because I didn't know I would be able to perform like that," 17-year-old Mishra said. "I wanted to get there and I did get there, and that was the most amazing thing to me."

I’m just gonna say this for anyone that actually takes this seriously. The father said he didn’t approve of his technique but he was probably very proud of the grade he got. Also later on he mentions that you can guide your kids but you should give them love and trust. So, he probably disapproved of the way he was studying but trusted that his son would do his best and do well.

This is a once in a lifetime achievement, one that he will probably never repeat. There is no need for him to do it again, we all know trying to achieve top marks is hard enough but when you are constantly pressured to do so, it is definitely mentally taxing.

I felt that it would have been too on the nose if his father straight up admitted that his son got an almost unbelievably good score despite his disapproval of the discipline and prep-technique. He clearly loves and respects his son. I won't bring race into it but I agree with the other commenter that this is a case of too thin skin on your part, saying that the father is emotionally and psychologically beating his son down. I wouldn't normally say this next part because a perfect score truly is commendable and this goes without saying, but in light of your comment - SAT score is far from everything and even the smartest and most disciplined people meet a rude awakening when they get to university. There's no need to get complacent.

@@wittypal2608 If you think Indian Parents have given up on their strict upbringing, I suggest you visit more households in India because I, being an Indian, have faced and still face a lot of parental pressure to be perfect in all fields of life ranging from being a perfect student, a perfect personality, a perfect visionary and so on. Generally, a perfect human being which is not possible. I'm not saying that this is the case for ALL the Indian teenagers because not every parent would put too much pressure on their offsprings but it is definitely the case for most Indian households where parents except perfection from their children. Being proud is a different case. First, parents demotivate us by saying we can't be successful in doing this and that and second, when the child actually succeeds in cracking an exam or an interview or accomplishing any noticeable achievement, they come and tell them that they are proud of him/her and had faith in them from the beginning when they were actually demoralizing them in the first place. I guess this is a tactic that they use to mentally empower their wards to give their 100% in everything. Again, not saying that this is the case for all Indians.

I just graduated from Davis Senior High School last year. I’ve talked to Apurva before, specifically in Chemistry honors class. Not only is he intelligent, but he’s also nice to everyone. Keep it up dude! 🤪

just study and do the work. his parents expect perfection. his "sleeping in" and all that has nothing to do with how he actually performs. he said he studied when he had "free time". meaning, when he wasn't doing other hw or in class, he was studying. in other words, he's literally working ALL the time. where others would play a video game or watch a movie on their free time, he spent it studying.
As someone who's going into DSHS next year, I say this is a wake up call to get to studying more frequently or at least integrate it with my free time schedule, congrats to Apurva as well.

I feel like happiness is one of the most important things to be successful. I feel like this guy enjoys what he's doing but doesn't like going to school because of how many boring classes he has to go too. He's extremely intelligent for his age and I give him props for that. But the education system is just awful I feel like. His grades were bad, but how much u wanna bet that everybody was shocked until he got the perfect SAT score. School only cares about grades instead of people's future. They should instead care about what makes the student happy so they can enjoy what they like to do. But big raise to this young gentlemen for finding a career that makes him happy.

The man was failing out of high school and struggled growing up. He was raised by a single mom in the Midwest. He promised his mother he’d take the SAT test. He didn’t expect to get a good score.
His score came back. He got a 1480 out of 1600 on the SAT. His mother, knowing her kid, asks, “Did you cheat?” He swore to her he didn’t cheat. In his senior year he realizes he’s smart and decides to attend classes. He stops hanging out with his old crowd. The teachers and kids seemed to notice. They started treating him differently.
He graduates, attends community college, goes on to Wichita State, and eventually to an Ivy League. He goes on to become a successful magazine entrepreneur.
You think, he’s smart. He just needed the standardized test to unlock his potential. No. This isn’t the story. What comes next is the important part.
12 years later the man gets a letter in the mail from Princeton, New Jersey. He doesn’t think anything about it. The next day his wife asks him if he’s going to open the letter.
He opens it. It turns out the SAT board periodically reviews their test taking procedures and policies. He was one of 13 people sent the wrong SAT score. His actual score was 740.
People say his whole life changed when he got the 1480. What really happened is his behavior changed. He started acting like a person with a 1480 and started doing what someone with a score like that does.

This is the fakest story i’ve ever heard. The SAT used a totally different scoring system until 2016, and a 1480 is in the bottom percentile of Princeton admissions standards. Even if he did enter with a 1480, you mentioned that his GPA was super low. The chances of him getting admitting were slim to none

@@Brian-bd1gc Please take into consideration that he attended community college, and then Wichita State. He either transferred to an Ivy League school, or he graduated from Wichita State, and then entered an Ivy League graduate studies program. One doesn’t need SAT scores for these situations.

Some comments asking why is this news? For one, it is really rare to get a perfect SAT, really hard. I was a high school math teacher for 30 years. I currently tutor for the ACT and SAT. A perfect SAT is so rare. Awesome job for the young man!

my friends younger brother just got a perfect score on SAT and ACT and runs two nonprofits while attending the best highschool in virginia, where he graduated valedictorian with the highest GPA in the schools history. he is attending harvard in the fall. i played video games with this guy and he was always so much better than the rest of us. so so much better. makes sense why his older brother always bragged about him. i always thought that was weird because brothers don’t usually brag about each other all the time but now i get it. his brothers a genius. i’m keeping in touch to get a job in the future and i told him that to his face and he laughed lmao

Sleep is good for your brain. Also, he's going to learn sooner or later, that he needs to study for himself not anyone else. So far it has paid off. I guess the family is really competitive about it, but I doubt that's considered abusive or harmful. He's going to be more successful than most people after he chooses his career path. I plan on being in school until I die, even after I retire. But I don't care about grades or some sort of prestige, I just constantly want to learn all the things about all the things. Grading just shows your retention levels and creates a benchmark. If everyone had perfect memory they'd probably all get close to perfect grades all the time.

This is more than just how smart he is, but also his amazing focus. I've been teaching english since i was in highschool, now 24, but i STILL can't get a perfect score on my college exams, because i keep losing focus. It's so darn annoying when you KNOW the correct answer but got it wrong either because you're tired or simply lost focus in the moment. I mean, yes, i still got As but it could've been perfect y'know?

@1:19 shows that he took it twice. The first time in November 2020 he got 1550 which is already high enough to get him into top universities. The second time in October 2021 was when he got a perfect 1600. 👏🏽

It depends on your circumstances. When you're in like Alaska, you can probably get a 1500 and easily get into an Ivy League. When you go to more competitive states like New Jersey or Massachusetts, you should get more than 1550.

Don't project your past failures on pressuring your kids. He did well above and beyond. Honestly surprised he didn't crack from his parent's pressure. I used to be living the same exact life and expectations from my parent. I think i cracked around 16 when its became too unbearable. Proud of that kid he did amazing and with that attitude he would do well in any work force. Just hope he remembers to take breaks.

Yeah about 0.7 percent get this score, or about 1 in every 142 students. In other words about one person per test site. I don’t see how this is news worthy.

I really hope he gets the sleep that he needs. Being a gifted kid in highschool is not going to work well in the future if he doesn't work on not putting pressure eon himself. I hope he continues to do well later on in his life too. Academics is just a small slice of life, sometimes all that pressure to perform causes other problems later on. Just don't forget about mental health, physical health, goals and ambitions in your life, creating meaningful bonds with people you care most, and spending time with family. Academics matter, but don't lose sight of the bigger picture.

i think it's satire? They mention that he applied to 12 colleges ED, which literally breaks the ED contract. You can only apply to one college ED, and if you get accepted, you must go
