      You'd have to be pretty good to be able to purposely get a 1580 rather than a 1600. You'd have to know every question 100% then know that you should get a few wrong and that you made no mistakes on the rest.

    • @lol_Ozma
      @lol_Ozma 6 лет назад +6

      Jamie Lannister Not necessarily. A person can be unsure about some questions but still can get 1600 through lucky guesses of Mcqs. But a person who purposely wants to get 1580 will have to know every question 100%.

    The entire purpose of the SAT is to gauge how well a student will do in college. If those students who cheated are doing fine in those colleges, doesn't that say something about the SAT? These standardized tests are a ploy to make money, nothing more.

    • @katelynbrown98
      @katelynbrown98 8 лет назад +32

      ArcticAnDroid Well yea, but also, this guy admitted to cheating just 16 times, but he may have taken it more. I don't think those 16 kids are proud of themselves five years later, after they've probably finished college. And maybe they didn't finish, maybe they dropped out bc they realized college classes were too difficult. The SAT is definitely suppose to be more reflective of college exams than those you receive in hs. They have a validity and I don't see why everyone is blaming the system. Like wtf..you need an academic standard to be accepted into a higher education course!

    • @mrtron1850
      @mrtron1850 7 лет назад +9

      The SAT is one of the best indicators of college performance. Sure you have some lower scoring students outperforming higher scoring students, but in general the higher the score the better the college performance.

    • @fatass3455
      @fatass3455 7 лет назад +54

      The SAT has nothing to do with college or life imo, it's just a measure of how good you are at taking standardized tests. I performed higher than several of my friends on the SAT, but I know for a fact that they are smarter than me and perform higher than me in most of my classes. Knowing how to answer the questions that the SAT asks doesn't teach you anything about life skills or the stress of college.

    • @helenhill4835
      @helenhill4835 7 лет назад +8

      It's not how well a student will do in college, just if they learned the info they needed to in HS to advance onto college.

Through this in depth interview we learn that the world isn't black and white and we don't really have to play by the rules, it's possible to get away with certain things. We get to see the demeanor of an intelligent person, listen to the things that they would say and the way they respond to trick questions etc. This video isn't a waste of this it's super interesting and educational.

      while I do find it unfair for the students who do work for their grades and success, I still have to say fuck ETS and their damn tests. gave me so much stress back in high school. the SAT ONLY measures how good you are at taking the test. it does NOT accurately reflect a student's intelligence or predict how well they will succeed later in life.

    • @mochachino890

    • @matthewwalters1602
      @matthewwalters1602 8 лет назад +17

      +Kevin Le I think the problem is that the sat and just standardize tests in general are plain stupid. They ask you the most ridiculous questions that don't and never will apply to 99% of test takers lives; furthermore, is a student who studied 5 minutes before taking a test to remember some random fact more qualified than a student who spent 5 hours memorizing but didn't remember? School in general is a huge waste of time unless you are directly going to school to train for an exact job. When am I realistically going to use Pythagorean Theorem? When I get a job involving math? No and even if I did the resources of my time allow me to easily research it from almost anywhere on the Internet to refresh my memory yet I remember spending hours in school being tested on things like that. "You can't always rely on the Internet for everything" fuck you engineers spent their lives making the Internet as great as it is and it has become the single most useful learning device you sayicantuseit

      @melpomeneouranos4973 8 лет назад +1

      Exactly!!

    • @mochachino890
      @mochachino890 8 лет назад +17

      Matthew Walters I'd counter that it's less about the result and more about the process. It's not that you'll be to apply the Pythagorean Theorem in real life, but you'll learn to think in different ways and be able to have the capacity to solve complex problems.
      Also, learning basic geometry and what not is just an application of the algebra that cements your understanding algebraic math in general. To say that algebra doesn't affect your field of learning would be incorrect.
      Once again, I see the same flaws in the SATs as you do, but until we have an efficient method to test the mental capacity of millions of students at one time... its, unfortunately, the best we have.

    Most people don't realize that the SAT is a business, not some government issued test that legitimately analyzes skills of the test taker. It is run by the College Board, which is actually a company and not a "board". Their tests are designed in such a way that unless you are in the top 1% of geniuses, you cannot finish everything on the test in time. The scores you need to pass an AP test for instance are really strange. You can pass some of them with only getting 35-40% correct. Yet for all these tests, you are required to pay to take. And if you want to send these scores to a school, you're looking at 11$ extra per report. I think it's ridiculous that such a business is allowed to dominate the education system.

Don't get me started with the SAT is your life thing since every teacher(where I live) encourages you to get tutors and books, which don't even help that much since they randomize the test each time and guarantee a few points on the test(I've done SATs numerous times and only got a 1080, yet a 3.4 GPA throughout high school).

The short time limits, trick questions, how they score wrong answer, and a lot more bullshit. If you were told by your friends that a perfect test taker that takes the SATs all the time for kids so they can get the grades to be on the top picks of colleges so you don't end up working at McDonalds & you didn't have to take a several hour long bullshit test, why wouldn't you take that offer? Well the SATs and ACTs aren't a very good way of gauging how intelligent a student is or how much they learned in HS. I had a friend in high school who had finished college-level cal 3, linear, and differentials math classes, yet she got a lower math score than I did on the ACTs, though I just barely scraped through cal 1. I have another friend who was our class's valedictorian, who is a math tutor and finished cal 3 with ease. Yet she also got a lower math score than me. Does that mean that they're worse than me at math? Not at all. It just shows that I'm luckier, maybe, or maybe I'm a bit better at taking tests. Standardized testing is riddled w faults.

      Not only that, but based on the grade a student consistently gets throughout high school needs to play a bigger effect. If they work that hard in HS, they will in college too. It needs to be more of an overall perspective of the person. Throughout all of those years we've taken hundreds of tests. And even places like New York we need to take so many final tests called Regents just to be able to graduate. Adding in the SAT is just ridiculous in my opinion.

Since they don't have writing section, they should make you take 2 math and 2 cr sections as your monthly exam and give you a grade equivalent of what you score on it. Also, the scores that you matched up with to the grades doesn't even make any sense. A 1300 should be almost equivalent to a D- considering the maximum score of the SAT is a 2400 (which would be an A+), divide that by two and you get a 1200 (an F).

      True, the test can be biased because of anxiety etc therefore a 3-4 hour test is not proven to be accurate. However... That being said may highschools are at different levels. One highschool's A might be different from anothers highschool's A and their tests might be totally different. Therefore 1 standardised test across every highschool *can* be seen as advantageous. Not that I agree with standardised tests but it has it's perks.

      Some High Schools are more academically rigorous than others. The SAT/ACT gives you a look at their performance on an even playing field.
      Another problem with looking at just High School is that you can have "Study Wonders" who get high grades because they put in a lot more time studying than most of the other students. It's good they're so dedicated, but being a Study Wonder won't help them as much when they have to deal with the more challenging material and heavier course load in college. The SAT gives you a good idea of their true scholastic aptitude.

You can't expect a project to be finished in a single testing block, and if you let them do it at home, then they can easily have someone else do it, and students are more dependent on being able to spend money on materials, etc. SAT and ACT are the best we've got at the moment.

Paying somebody to take your college entrance exam only serves to indicate that you don’t have what it takes to tackle the academic rigor of a top notch college or university. Besides, kids can skip the ACT/SAT and go the community college route instead and be just as successful, so it’s not like they don’t have options. I would say that these kids are trying to take the easy way out by getting somebody else to do the hard work for them. That right there is not the fault of our school system.

      Hello :) It doesn't necessarily determine how well you can take a test. You can't be an idiot and expect to do well on the SAT. You have to have some higher brain functioning to answer certain questions in the amount of time given. You may be able to get away with a high writing or math score, but you can't learn the rules of effectively reading and comprehending; that's directly related to intelligence.

    • @Waltuh5775
      @Waltuh5775 7 лет назад +3

      Shakespeare You're stubborn. Of course anyone who's intellectually disabled, such as an autistic kid with an IQ of 70, wouldn't prove successful on the SAT. But the fact of the matter is that the overall test scores of those with an average IQ wouldn't show any correlation between level of intelligence and success. It should be obvious, the SAT is based on curriculum, it's not a test for aptitude.

  • @PillowNinja98

    The SAT does not test knowledge. The SAT tests your ability to take the SAT. The math, reading, and writing on the SAT is not what students learn in schools. You could be a stellar AP trig student and do poorly on the SAT, and your chances of a good college are out of play. That's why this system must change.

      PillowNinja99 theres also people like me who suck during tests. For some reason I always managed to no do well on test like the SAT. I believe its like you said that the test is not really what you learned in school. Thats why you have all these companys making practice tests and flash cards to memorize this specific test.

    I didnt study for mine.. I didnt think it was that important. I still got in the colleges I wanted. Fact is this SAT is not a good indicator of intelligence or even smarts.
    I dont really care that someone along me in college cheated on their SAT, college and work will expose them if they continue. Really at the end of the day can you do the work, are you competent, and so on that matters. There are plenty of people who did better than me on SAT but they couldnt do what I do.

      I did well enough on the sat and act despite not getting ready for it in any way to, and I got into some great colleges. I am not saying you shouldn't study to do the best you can, just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you. Tests is what we have on mass scale, we just have to go by it. Generally people who do extremely well on exams like sat and act are pretty smart though. These exams just point to the fact that there is a good chance one is fit for higher education.

    Just get rid of the SAT and ACT. There's no freaking point anyway like seriously. I get 4.0s but when it comes to the standardized testing I bomb it every time. There's no real point to it. It's telling that teens are worried and upset enough about 1 stupid test and the impact it has on their future that they'd hire someone else to take it for them and do well on it.

      That could just mean your school doesnt teach to the standard of the SAT. Sat and act sucks but it can really show the difficulty of your school. 4.0 at one school can translate to a 3.5 at another

    Why ask him the simplest of questions? This interviewer expects only one answer, and pushes him to it. It gets really annoying. Yes, what he did is unethical, but he is likely smarter than you academically, should the interviewer really find it necessary to force an apologetic reply out of him? Already, with his prior answer, where he mentions saving several kids, you can tell he knew what he was doing.

      Fabian Aguilar in US, the court gives sentences based on what the Jury says. So if he acts like he is sorry, the jury will be soft on him.

      +John Christian Depends on the state you live in. Most states the judge imposes the sentence. Also he has already been convicted so he could say whatever he wanted and they could not try him again. He is most likely just trying to save face so that he doesn't look like a bad guy. What he did just shows what US colleges are really like.
