      This is honestly a massively diminished choice though.
      The fact of the matter is you can buy a Rx 580 8gb for $80. When you sell it, you'll probably still get $50-60.
      The 5700g and 5600g lack pci-e 4.0 and have half the cache of a 5600/5700. When you sell them, they aren't gonna be worth any more than the non G varients.
      The Rx 580 8gb at $80 just makes APUs mostly obsolete. These guys were showing a Rx 460 beating a 5600g by 20%. A 580 is much better than that.
      For $400, I'd do personally:
      $80 Rx 580 8gb
      $55 i3 10100f used
      $70 z490/z590 motherboard (you could save a bit and go b460/b560 but I think the bit extra is worth it)
      $50 generic case
      $40 decent 500 watt power supply
      $45 16gb ddr4 3200 cl16
      $50 for a 1tb SSD

    Some people buy APUs because their goal is just to at least make the PC functional first and/or because their budget is still incomplete. Not everyone has the luxury and privilege of USD pricing and lesser to no shipping cost, and not everyone has $300-500 just lying around for a gaming PC.

Saved up and got a used RX6600 and then upgraded to a B550 board and a 5800X and sold all the old parts. So it was definitely worth it for me to get started and I was still able to sell them and someone else got a good deal on the used parts. Used is definitely a way to do this cheaply and the 5600G at least for me was a solid mid-tier gaming experience. It does fine. And it can be very cheap.

    Several things.
    1. You compared a new build with an APU vs a used build with a used GPU. That's not a fair comparison, all you did was compare new vs used, and of course the used will have better value.
    2. You wasted money on RGB instead of faster RAM. APUs are dependent on how fast the RAM is.
    3. For $300 you can build a new gaming PC with an APU. They're the ultimate budget gaming builds. If you try to do the same with a GPU your system will be gimped in either the CPU or GPU.

    Back in 2018 I built a new system based on the Ryzen 5 2400G APU and for the first time in 20 years, I decided to NOT include a GPU (prices were crazy in those days).
    I was amazed at how versatile the 2400G was, I could actually play games without a GPU! Yeah the framerate wasn't awesome but the very fact I COULD play those games was insane.
    A year later I bought a 2nd hand RX580 and this is the setup I'm still rocking today.
    The point is, IMHO: today's APUs are powerful enough to allow you to wait until you find better deals on graphics cards AND their CPU part is decent enough to keep up with at least a mid range GPU.

    APU at this point are a stepping stone to a dedicated gpu build and their cost efficiency are tied to how much ram it has and how fast it is. I think apu are better for ultimate budget setups where only light gaming is needed and displaying a 4k 60 signal is more important for movies and other content so lots of fast ram isn't needed plus they would make a perfect living room pc for the same reason. Just toss the steam os on it with some wireless controllers and boom a nice multimedia pc for the big screen to play light games and stream. Maybe a future video of making a budget steam os htpc?

    Came from an APU, APUs are not worth if you planning on upgrading, APUs are nice if you build a small pc for emulation and light gaming and want to put it in your living room. But as your main PC I wouldn't do it, I had a 3400G and it was a HUGE bottleneck for ANY GPU, like even a 1660 would be bottlenecked so no, is a big no for APUs of any kind, if you ever buy an APU buy it because you only want to use its potential and not because you want to upgrade it.

    Strictly for out of the box performance yes you can technically say the i3 system is a better buy and is the only thing I agree with, but everywhere else the value is significantly lost due to the 5600g actually having better single core performance than the 10100f, has 2 more cores and 4 more threads, a better upgrade path with up to a 5900X 12c/24t (or even a 16c/32t 5950X though I don't recommend going that high end with a cheaper motherboard but it IS possible) vs a 10700k/10900k which are both only 8c/16t cpus and perform a little worse than the 5000 series AMD cpus altogether and for the same price point, you have much better future proofing value with the APU system. I dont care if I am not gaming at 4k ultra, these both play my ENTIRE steam library. I should follow that up by saying "At reduced settings" But I have never played a game on 4k or Ultra and I have the latest all AMD strix advantage edition laptop, only because I got an amazing trade as payment for an afternoon of electrical work.
    I believe AMD APUs are the future... look at the AMD powered handhelds and the amazing minisforum and beelink micro PCs... That is all the average computer user needs. More and more people I know just use their phones for everything.
    Unless you are a hardcore gamer or editing video you can really get by without a GPU.. That being said.. I can put a 1650 in literally any 60-100$ off lease office PC and beat any APU to smithereens. Or if the power connections/supply are there put in a beefy card and play anyting at 60 FPS high settings 1080p.
    APU and GPU systems both fill a role, moving forward I think the APU is the direction the world will go. Big desktops used to be all we really had... Now there are so many options from tablets, handhelds, laptops and so many great APU choices and the Ryzen Halo, dreadnaught, godslayer 4000, wacky APUs they have in the works..

    5600G/5700G make sense for those who don't have motherboards that feature PCIE 4.0 support.
    The lack of cache is concerning though and I'm truly not sure whether I should save money and go with the 5700G or get the full phat 5700X with an X370 motherboard. I'm using a Ryzen 7 1700X. Any advice?

    • @Jwalker76
      @Jwalker76 Год назад +1

      To upgrade to a 5700x you would need to update the bios/UEFI For the motherboard to accept this CPU and as the 5700x is a newer CPU you maybe safer getting a 5800x as it's been out for years and it's more likely supported. Find out the model of motherboard, google the make/name. And look to download bios drivers, check to see if the latest bios supports the CPU before buying. Also these motherboards sometimes can't remember all CPUs available, meaning by updating the bios the 1700x is no longer supported. So you want to update just before switching CPUs. You can always search RUclips on how to update your bios.

    • @Jwalker76
      @Jwalker76 Год назад +2

      Also the only reason to go 5700g over the 5700x/5800x is if you don't have a GPU. 5700g is not only slower because of cache and pcie3, it's basically a 3000 series CPU with graphics.

      I'm running games at 3440x1440p @75hz ultrawide resolution so I'm not sure if a new CPU would drastically affect my in game performance. This isn't an ideal combination but it's working well enough with settings dropped to medium. It makes me question if I should wait another generation for AM5 to become less expensive rather than throwing $150 into a dead AM4 platform.

I really don't understand the RX 460 as a choose in any way, i mean the the I3 10100f isn't a bad CPU, but as a new buy the Ryzen 5 4600G, and as a used buy Ryzen 5 3600 are about the same price, and vastly better than the I3 10100F, and it will never build a PC that averages above 60 FPS across the top 20 titles, as anything above a RX 6600 (non XT) will be bottle necked . The 400$ 5600G is a valid way to go as you could take that thing up to RX 6900 XT, though you will have to play allot of the top games with the lowest setting, and 1% low frames in the teens while you get the money together .
