"she's like the wind" ❤️ was written for Grandview USA (Jamie Lee Curtis) it was not going to be used in the film so Patrick Swayze rest in power thought for it to be used here. 💯 There was a period of a few years where I wasn't allowed to see movies because of their title such as "Octopussy" 🙂 no bullshit ✅
I have seen this movie so many times! I never ever get bored of it. I never understood the appeal of Patrick Swayze when I was a teenager but I REALLY get the appeal now. He is a whole lot of man.
I had a crush on him from the short-lived tv show, The Renegades. I kept trying to get my friends to watch it, but it ended before any of them did. Right around the same time, The Outsiders came out, and I was no longer the only Swayze fan in my friend group.
Patrick's mother was a dance instructor and he was a professional ballet dancer before he became an actor so he should be a good dancer. He only stopped dancing professionally because of surgery gone wrong on an old knee injury from when he played football. It completely messed up his knee. Filming this movie he was in a lot of pain.
I especially want to note the absolutely incredible chemistry between the actors, the way she looks at him, you believe everything 100%. Yes, the story is simple, but the film just has some powerful charming aura.
What I like about the last dance where they do the lift is the fact that back when he was teaching her in the woods he told her "You have to trust me or else you can hurt me". Meaning she finally does trust him (to hold her up).
I think it’s not as simple and superficial a story as you might think watching it the first time. In fact, there are many layers to it, and there’s many things going on beside the dancing and the love story per se; they’re actually not what this film is about. It’s about class differences in society in the early 60’s, and it’s also a coming-of-age story for the main character Baby who becomes disillusioned with the sheltered world she grew up in and becomes a confident young woman. It’s not only her that undergoes a transformation, but all of the other main characters as well. Even the sister’s character has had some development in the end, but the most important one is between Baby and her father. So you see, it’s not that simplistic as you might’ve thought at first glance, but there’s much more to it if you’re willing to look a bit deeper. 😊

I was a senior in high school when this movie came out, so I was basically the target audience, and of course I LOVED it. It's such a weird sixties-as-imagined-by-the-eighties mess, but it's a simple, sweet love story at heart, and it works. It's also the first time I recall ever seeing abortion addressed in mainstream entertainment. My generation was the first to come of age with those rights, and this reminded us not to take that for granted.
It is not a summer camp it is a resort for the wealthy. This is where college students go to earn money for school. Places like the Jersey Shore and the Poconos in Pennsylvania are just a few of places.
I use to know someone who saw this movie six times at the theater. I dont know how many more times she saw it..last I heard she was on her way back to see it again. I didnt see this movie when it came out until years later when I saw it on TV. During December of 1987 I bought a 68 Chevy Impala..I was 27 at the time. Seemed like everytime I turned on the car radio.."Hungry Eyes" was playing. That's why every time I hear that song it reminds me of that car.
"Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Classic, sexy movie. 😎 👍 Fun Fact: The "Cry To Me" love scene has been voted one of the sexiest movie moments in cinematic history. Music Enthusiast Fact: The song "She's Like The Wind" was co-written by Patrick Swayze with Stacy Widelitz and sung by Patrick Swayze himself. Genuine Moment Fact: The very famous scene where Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and Baby (Jennifer Grey) are practicing their dancing and they are crawling towards each other on the floor wasn't intended to be part of the film; they were just messing around and were warming up to do the real scene, but director Emile Ardolino liked it so much, he kept it in the film.
For the record, this isn't just a ladies movies. I took ballet and tap as a kid. I first saw this movie when I was 7 mostly because all the girls in my class and my teenaged teacher were obsessed. The abortion stuff totally went over my head, but I loved the dancing and who doesn't love 50s nostalgia?
I had a '57 Chevy Bel Air HT like Johnny's only silver. It was my 1st car. I worked after school, on Sat., & summers at a supermarket to pay for it & to afford to go out on Fri. & Sat. nights. If you were a 14-18 yr. old (hormonal) boy with the choice to go to a dance & spend hrs. "dirty dancing" with multiple girls your own age what else would you do? The only thing that I can remember being better was a date to a drive-in theater. Both would be followed up with cruising to a drive-in hamburger joint before going home. "Dirty Dancing" was my era & it was fun!
I like this movie, largely because there's more going on than just the dancing & summer romancing. People tend to miss the class warfare element. I don't know how people miss it; it's not that subtle. I like movies that have multiple layers like that. My favorite movie of all time, the 1987 version of RoboCop, does that, too. Check it out if you haven't already!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment I won't deny that. The extra layers just make me appreciate the movie more. Don't get me wrong; I can enjoy superficial films. They just don't stick with me afterwards.
Hello Ladies and Happy New Year to u both! Great review and loved ur commentary. I remember seeing this flick in the theatre in 1987 & loved it. Very different coming of age movie in the time of St Elmo’s fire, Bfast club, and 16 candles. Looking forward to your next live stream!
I got into this movie during those late 90s TBS marathons 😂 My high school buddy and I even learned the final dance (more or less, we had to alter the lift because I was hefty and he was a bit scrawny) for drama parties 🤣🤣🤣
You should see Jennifer Grey's performance in "Dancing with the Stars". She danced to one song from "Dirty Dancing" - "Do you love me". When asked by an interviewer why she didn't choose the song "Time of my life", her response was: "because that song is for me and Patrick". She's such an amazing dancer, and she ended up winning that show!
13:19 Proud moment for me right now. This song ("Overload") is sung by my cousin (through marriage), Alfie Zappacosta. His Uncle Bert was the man I KNEW as Grampa. He was my father's stepfather after my grandfather died.
I remember thinking while seeing just the MV to Time of my Life first and Patrick dancing that there is no way in hell he learned to dance like this for the movie alone. His whole posture and bearing literally scream !Dancer! Which he of course was, he was a ballet dancer as I learned shortly afterwards.
First time I saw it was while I was in Germany while it was fully dubbed in German, hah hah. I didn't hear the actual voices of Grey and Dwayze until years later and it threw me for a loop.
Patick Swayze has been dancing all of his life. His mother has a dance studio in Houston, TX. He is also a good athlete and played football in high school.
Back in the 50s and 60s there were a lot of places like that to vacation, mainly because traveling by plane wasn't an option because it was very expensive. When in the late 70s and 80s plane tickets became more affordable, places like this to vacation started to dissappear. The scene where Patric Swayze passes his hand on her armpit and she laughs is actually real as well as his annoyance. Jennifer Grey was married to Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson, Marvel Agents of Shield), from 2001 to 2021. She had a nose job and joked that no one recognized her.... Michelle: "but it's a cheezy you enjoy". LOL!!
I'm probably late to the game on this, but Patrick Swayze's mother was a dancer that owned a dance school, so he'd been probably dancing since he was a little kid.
The way you rated probably Patrick Swayze's most famous movie, you'd have to love "Ghost" (1990), which I think even surpasses this one. Maybe you can start a poll if you want to see more of his movies, I'm sure most of the patreons who love Swayze's movies would choose this one.
Bit of trivia. "Time of My Life", a number 1 hit, was sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Bill was one half of the Righteous Brothers who were very big in the '60s. His partner, Bobby Hatfield, did a solo version of "Unchained Melody", which was the background music for the "Ghost" love scene. That song was a big hit in the '60s, and despite being recorded 26 years earlier, became a big hit again in 1990. I suspect Swayze was a Righteous Brothers fan.
I had the "Time of My Life" watching this review! Happy New Year to your whole family, particularly your dad. This is a great movie. I love it . Summer Camps are out of fashion now. But I would add that Kelly Bishop, the mom on the Gilmore Girls had a long career in Hollywood, before she became Emily Gilmore. Yet, I never recall anything she did prior to 2000
I think I was seven years old when this movie was released. I remember my mother was obsessed with this movie. As for myself, this is not a movie I revisit often, but I enjoy the soundtrack.
They both were professional dancers (the main characters). The song "she is like the wind" it was made and sang by Patrick and it's dedicated to her wife, also professional dancer.
A year ago when this was uploaded, I was hitchhiking around Ontario! Spent 14 weeks on the road and met many people and got LOTS of help! The Lord prepared the way and was ever-present! Now I'm tired! Still! 😴btw
something I learned during one of those anniversary trivia rewatches at the cinemas was that Hungry Eyes was written while the author was watching the movie (it was commissioned for the soundtrack)
11:51 That's kinda weird and ironic how he was doing the ,"Ga-Gonk" inner body sound scene and the mic picked up Natalie's growling stomach (after sipping water).😂 Impressive 🎤 mic
Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze are also in the movie "Red Dawn" together...along with Charlie Sheen, who had a small role in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" where Jennifer Grey played Ferris Bueller's sister.
And Jennifer Grey wasn't happy with that movie. She didn't want to do Dirty Dancing because she didn't think much of Patrick Swayze after Red Dawn. But her agent convinced her and it all went well.
Finally saw this reaction, and the 2 of you were just smiles and giggles throughout :) Swoonin' for Swayze haha. I always enjoyed the ending and the soundtrack. I agree though Michelle, this movie and many others were on repeat so much that you never really sat down and watched the whole thing. My parents would fast forward through half of it haha. I was 11 when this came out lol. If you want to see something hilarious, Swayze and Chris Farley auditioning for Chippendales, SNL skit, 1 of the funniest things I've ever watched :) I enjoyed Ghost more than this movie, but it's a fun cheesy 80's classic.
Lol, I remember TBS showing this all the time too the same way TNT would show The Shawshank Redemption constantly. It also took me until I was in my 30s to actually watch this but once I did I liked it because I like most anything with Patrick Swayze in it even when it’s absolutely goofy like Road House.
The lead female dance, Penny, was played by actress & professional dancer Cynthia Rhodes. At that time, she was married to singer Richard Marx. In fact, he wrote the his big #1 1989 hit "Right Here Waiting" for her loving him while he was out touring. They were married between 1987 to 2014, when sadly they divorced. They have three boys. You guys look a lot "Taxi" TV actress Marilu Henner as she could be related to you (mother, sister, cousin, aunt)
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment You and Nat will love SInging in the Rain, its a one of a kind film with great music, comedic scenes and an unusual script and storyline. I've been trying to get my fave group of reactors to watch ROman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in her Oscar winning role from 1953. Just an enjoyable feel good movie with all scenes filmed in ROME, its in black and white and would have been glorious in color but it was too expensive back then to use color film.
Loved your reaction, but I wish you had played the last dance scene in full. Yes it's cheesy, but I can't watch that without getting a big smile. A bit of trivia. After the movie was released, the song "Time of My Life", performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, became a number 1 hit. Bill was one half of the Righteous Brothers, who had many big hits in the'60s. Having a number 1 hit 20 years after his hayday, is a somewhat unique achievement for a vocalist. Bill's partner, Bobby Hatfield, had a big hit in the '60s with a solo version of "Unchained Melody". Bobby's recording of that song was used as background music in Swayze's 1990 movie "Ghost". Despite being recorded 26 years earlier it once again was a big hit. I think that is unique. Those guys could sing!
Great reaction you two to one of my favorite films of all time 😉.... If you're looking for another drama/comedy with some musical elements periodically, that is set around the same time period (late 50s/early 60s), then check out the (Amazon Prime - but also available on DVD & Blu-Ray) Emmy award winning TV series 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' (whereas in one particular season for several episodes they even feature a summer resort that the main characters go to that is very similar to the one featured in 'Dirty Dancing', which also gave me such 'Dirty Dancing' nostalgia vibes 😁).
Would love to horizontal dance with both of you .haha. Did you watch him in Ghost and/or Road House, both straight after this. And did you watch her funny in Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment How about them together younger in Red Dawn, with his brother Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson from Back to the Future...Russia invades USA, those young ones have to save the country.
No I'm lucky in my country this film was shown 1 time every year max, so I didn't hate it, but being a boy I rarely saw love films when I was young. Well this is a good movie.
I have watched Dirty Dancing so many times and most of the time I was basically forced to watch it. Hopefully this first watch is my last time. Great movie though!
This was all except a simple movie. You have to think this was made in th 80'S and here are the facts that make make this a wonderful movie.: 1) It was protagonized by a woman 2) It was directed by a woman 3) It was produced by a woman 4) It was the FIRST TIME EVER TO SHOW AN ABORTION ON CAMERA. 5) The movie is about 2 people of different range Now this thing does not seem a problem, but beleive me, This was a very difficult and innovant movie because of that things
Not just the abortion on camera, but don’t forget that abortion was still illegal in the 60’s, so Penny’s story here is actually quite dark. I’ve never viewed this one as a simple chick flick where the girl gets the man of her dreams. Because it isn’t. Thank you for pointing that out! 😊👍
My sisters thought to try this one night. They went, "surely the 80's idea of dirty isn't that bad!" Oh how wrong they were. 😁 Happy New Year my ladies!💜💚
I kind of laugh when I see youtube comments about how wholesome the 80s were. I never remember anyone describing pop culture as wholesome at the time. Pop culture was "ruining our kids" is what I heard, from adults anyway, but even the youth never described things as wholesome. The 50s were pined after as wholesome at the time. The 60s 70s and 80s were seen as rebelious and tinted. My how perspectives can change.
Happy New Year. The parents were Jerry Orbach Broadway Star. and Kelley Bishop from the original cast of A Chorus Line. Jerry Orbach filmed Law and Order in my office and was a great guy. Jennifer Grey is the daughter of legend Joel Grey. Patrick Swayze had studied dance and was told to hold back on his expertise when he danced. Definitely an interesting cast.
Dirty Dancing is an anomaly of a movie for me. I've always liked it, but at the same time realize it's cheesy, yet somehow it's GOOD cheese. Also, I don't really like musicals and even though the movie is not technically a musical, music and dance sequences are a huge part of the film's plot. Also, it's funny how it's set in the 60s, yet has a very 80s vibe being made in 1987 and some of the music is definitely 80s soundtrack as well as some of the characters like Baby have distinctively 80s hairstyles. The 80s could get away with stuff like this that other decades don't pull off as well, imo.
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment thankfully I love you two and I shall subscribe. If you’re curious about the name and photo for the profile it’s not a plug watch come fly with me by the creators of little Britain it’ll make sense then but love the content keep it up ladies x
The biggest fantasy in this movie, the father accepting the camp dance instructor. Never, and I mean never, trust a man that can dance. All men know this.
I realize you are not in the atmosphere to know. But it's not a summer camp, it's a country club. Rich people go there for vacations. The dancers are there to teach the children of the rich people who were invited. Baby's father is a rich doctor. Johnny Castle is the dance instructor that the rich guy that welcomes the doctor in the beginning pays to teach people to dance. If the two of you would ever like to go to a country club, look up who I am and get in touch. I might be able to get you two invitations to one in south Florida. My name is Derek Thomas Lirio.
I would get annoyed as a kid that this was on TV, too. 😆 more so that I thought it looked incredibly boring. When I got older, I tried to watch it again, and it felt "like a year." 😆 🤣 Still was bored. I couldn't finish it, but I've seen some of the iconic scenes and felt that was good enough for me. One point I have is that there was lot's of 50s nostalgia in the 80s, and this movie felt like they updated the 50s for 80s audiences. Some of the messaging and all. Enjoyed the reaction Lovely Ladies. 😎👍.
It is a resort for rich people and in the Poconos in NY. It is a resort, not a camp and we didn't have them in Texas. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer did not get along. Patick Swayze's character has no money. The waiters are from families with money, hence they can do what they please. Watermelons like that are all over the south, especially Texas. A lot of old comedians got their start at these resorts and a lot of them were Jewish because they wouldn't be accepted in other places. He wrote the song and this wasn't the 80s it was in 1963,

That song was a big hit in the '60s, and despite being recorded 26 years earlier, became a big hit again in 1990. I suspect Swayze was a Righteous Brothers fan.
Happy New Years to you wonderful ladies.
The dirt can wash off but the dancing...WOW!
Yet, I never recall anything she did prior to 2000
Thank you!! Happy New Year!!
I think I was seven years old when this movie was released. I remember my mother was obsessed with this movie. As for myself, this is not a movie I revisit often, but I enjoy the soundtrack.
LOVEE this movie 😍
They both were professional dancers (the main characters). The song "she is like the wind" it was made and sang by Patrick and it's dedicated to her wife, also professional dancer.
My girlfriend loved this movie. It played on our VCR often. Thanks for your insightful reactions.
Thanks for watching!
You two are 🔥 great reaction ❤
Thank you Kyle!!
If you're the male lead in an 80's movie your name is always John or Johnny. You can't be a Franky or Ralphy.
Ralphy 😂😂
Unless you're named Ferris Bueller. 😉
Loved tbs!
Awesome dance moves, good movie 🍿🎥👏🕺💃
I love dirty dancing
Dirty dancing and Independence day, cheesy in a good best way! both movies are joy to watch
Liked watching your review! Would love to see you review Daisy Jones and the Six
Loved that show!!!! Have been listening to the album ever since I watched it!
#RipPatrickSwazye #RIPLegend
This film has great music and cast and incredible and I believe in the romance of the film and the ending is happy ending which is great 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Happy Endings are great!
This is my favorite date night movie
Hey Michelle & Natalie, I wonder if you both have seen the OG of musicals - Singing In The Rain?
You know I have never watched it! I have seen where that song is sung in the movie though.
@@michaelceraso1977 I (Michelle) have never seen Roman Holiday either!
He apparently tore his ACL of the stage jump, but still finished dancing scenes.
Good movie ⚽️
Natalie had to think about her name for split second there during the intro .😂
She was just being silly 😜 😂
A Great Romantic Comedy to watch is the 1960 movie called "North to Alaska". Staring John Wayne. It's so Funny, you will love it.
We would have but it would have been copyrighted by the studio ☺️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The highlight of the movie was the growl... oh that was Nat and not the movie? Huh 🤔😂
I think I saw this on TBS as well. I forgot Newman (“Seinfeld”) was in it. What did the lovely Angels 😇👩🏻🦰 😇👩🏻 of Light think of THE SOUNDTRACK ??
Thank you!! Yes, have watched it!!
Would love to horizontal dance with both of you .haha. Did you watch him in Ghost and/or Road House, both straight after this. And did you watch her funny in Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
Yes!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment How about them together younger in Red Dawn, with his brother Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson from Back to the Future...Russia invades USA, those young ones have to save the country.
Just so you know, before Patrick Was in the movies he was a dancer in real life!
It's a resort, not a camp. The scene is The Catskill Mountains in New York State. They still exist and are a fantastic time
Try Googling "Mountain Lake Lodge" it's in Virginia not NY State. Although the Catskills are worth a visit as well.
Summer camps became Cruise Ships.
That really is what they were like!
Saw it at the movies 🍿
No I'm lucky in my country this film was shown 1 time every year max, so I didn't hate it, but being a boy I rarely saw love films when I was young.
Well this is a good movie.
Fun fact babys mother was the dance coach
I have watched Dirty Dancing so many times and most of the time I was basically forced to watch it. Hopefully this first watch is my last time. Great movie though!
Natalie let me watch a movie with you.
This was all except a simple movie. You have to think this was made in th 80'S and here are the facts that make make this a wonderful movie.:
1) It was protagonized by a woman
2) It was directed by a woman
3) It was produced by a woman
4) It was the FIRST TIME EVER TO SHOW AN ABORTION ON CAMERA.
5) The movie is about 2 people of different range
Now this thing does not seem a problem, but beleive me, This was a very difficult and innovant movie because of that things
Would love to watch the two of you review Saturday Night Fever!
Thanks for the recommendation!
My sisters thought to try this one night. They went, "surely the 80's idea of dirty isn't that bad!"
Oh how wrong they were. 😁
Happy New Year my ladies!💜💚
Haha!
The Lake they were practicing the lift in, isn't even there anymore. All dried up.
That’s right! He is in Law and Order. I knew he looked so familiar.
As a guy I could live without this movie!
Hey hey ladies apologies for my earlier interaction x
Water under the bridge 😊
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment thankfully I love you two and I shall subscribe. If you’re curious about the name and photo for the profile it’s not a plug watch come fly with me by the creators of little Britain it’ll make sense then but love the content keep it up ladies x
‘Roadhouse…’!!
The biggest fantasy in this movie, the father accepting the camp dance instructor. Never, and I mean never, trust a man that can dance. All men know this.
Yeah, the ones that are jealous because they cannot dance and impress the ladies. 😜😁
Jennifer Grey regretfully got a nose job after this role. She didn't get hired for roles because she was unrecognizable.
Really?
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment Yep
Fun fact they wanted Billy Zane but he coodnt dance
I find it interesting that Dirty Dancing and Fatal Attraction were released within a month of each other. The best and worst date movies of all time.
