- Ahead of 'Amar Singh Chamkila', releasing on Netflix, AR Rahman and Imtiaz Ali discuss their combustible partnership of many years and finding the sound of 80s Punjab.
Their last collaboration was Tamasha (2015), a well-loved romance with an enduring soundtrack, and before that Highway (2014) and the angsty, iconic Rockstar (2011). Like the ringleader of a thrilling heist, Imtiaz has assembled the old crew for Chamkila - besides Rahman, lyricist Irshad Kamil and singer Mohit Chauhan have jammed on the album.
Set in the tumultuous 80s, the musical biopic stars Diljit Dosanjh as legendary Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Parineeti Chopra essays Chamkila’s wife and singing partner Amarjot. Known for his frank, playful lyrics that cast an uncanny spell over the masses, Chamkila was slain, along with Amarjot, by unidentified gunmen in Mehsampur in Punjab in 1988. Their deaths have remained a mystery, though one theory holds they were killed by Sikh separatists.

Interviewer is very clear in his thoughts and articulated the entire interview well. He has ease with the subjects and command over his language makes this flow well. It’s not easy to make maestro ARR talk freely and smile and laugh during interviews. Brilliant! Well done!
Good interview! Sensible interviewer too. The Hindu adapting to changing times, but having feet firmly planted in the no-nonsense and traditional approach that have always set the class of Hindu apart from the rest, is a good treat to the soul.

Outstanding production, everything is perfect in this movie. I've watched it 4 times on Netflix! Chamkila lived his life on his terms, even though he was getting a lot of death threats throughout his career! Also loved this interview and the times in which this movie took place.

Imitiazji aapko Amarjyot Kaur ke role mein Actress Nisha Bano ko lena chahiye tha.Paineeti bilkul bhi Amarjyot ke character ke liye sahi actress nahin thi.You should look the character that you are playing in the film.Nisha Bano looks the character Amarjyot.Secondly akharon mein gaane ka experience Nisha Banoji ka hain na ki Parineeti Chopra ka.Parineeti is a trained Hindustani Classical music,but she has no practical experience of singing theth Punjabi songs in gaon ki language mein Punjab ke gaon ke akharas mein while Nisha Banoji has that experience.Mazaa kharaab kar diya aapne film mein Parineeti ko Amarjyot bana ke.Nisha Banoji what a right choice for the role of Amarjyot Kaur.
