Depending on the size of the spur gear, you will need to take it off to get the two black screws holding in the motor. Pretty much all stock spur gears will be to big. The only one that I have used that is a stock Traxxas spur is the 76 tooth in my Speed Rustler and that barely works to get those screws out. Most people will have to remove their spur gear.
+loppnow3 i see this comment alot... its getting old. i know you dont have to. you guys post this comment like your smart but never back it up with why.........
Hey thanks for the good content you have been the biggest help so far for my slash, keep it up, i have a couple of questions though, what type of oil is already in the slash 2wd and what would be the best oil upgrade for it?
Oh ok, I recommend Team Associated or Team Losi. If you can't find what you want at a local hobby shop, I recommend Amainhobbies.com. Do you need help deciding the weight? Most Traxxas models have 30wt shock oil stock.
We are getting ready to do this conversion. xl5 to VXL VELINEON... I need to know if you had to change the ESC plate to make the new esc fit. I have a newer model rustler (2 years old) and I have seen conflicting forum threads saying I need to replace and some say I dont. Whats your take on this? Thanks for the upload as well.
Hi pal, I'm David from Singapore & da I a 1/8 basher plus racer on EP truggies & buggies for years now & i will be buying my 1st time & only traxxas slash 2WD F-150 Raptor SVT SC TRUCK ! But before that I've some questions to ask u abt: 1) can it accepts all brands of 540-550 brushless motors & Esc? 2) can I put my own spektrum receivers? 3) can it accepts savox servos??? I hoped u can tell me all ya! Thanks pal. Cheers man!
I bought a rusler vxl and took brushless motor and esc and put it in my brushed slash. I could not get the control to connect or sync up. I put the brushed motor and xl5 back in and it worked. do you have to program the receiver? thanks
New to rc so excuse me if this is a noob question lol, i got a stock slash i want to upgrade to brushless, apon installing the new motor, will i need to do any kind of break in process?.. thanks in advance
if you upgrade your motor do you need a different do you need a stronger battery because I want to upgrade my own I have a traxxas slash mark Jenkins edition with titan motor
You don't need to use a stronger battery if you don't want to. You will have more consistent throttle control with something like a 2s lipo and then more power with a 3s lipo. Also it depends on the motor and receiver that you choose. Let me know if I can help any more.
Yea. I have used Castle back in the day. Honestly it depends what you are trying to do. For all around bashing, occasional tracking, etc, the VXL is the best system out for the Slash. With Castle systems, you can tune it specifically for the track or bashing. And that's when you decide what KV you need. If you are looking for quality, performance, and reliability I say go with the VXL 3s.
TraxxasRCC ok cool. I have castle in my stampede but my slash has been in storage. Wanna dig it out and do a project. Where is best place to buy vxl these days
I did everything the video said, but when I turn it on (even after I program it) it will only run for a second then shut off… anyone know why? The battery is fully charged, and the red light is on a rapid flash
Rapid flashing of any color is bad look in your velinion manual you got with your new set up. Vxl3s will flash red if it's in thermal protection 1st level.
I recently converted my 2x4 slash into a brush less motor system, (the same one you used in the video). Ran great, for only a bit though. After a few runs I would hear a loud clicking/scraping like noise. I went to check the motor and found out the pinion gear slipped and it stripped the spur gear. I re-tightened the pinion several times but still it slipped and stripped the spur gear. I have gone through at least $20 worth of spur gears, I even replaced the pinion to see if it would help, it didn't. People in forums told me to use blue lock tight on the pinion gear. It worked for a bit but the problem came back after a few runs. Any suggestions? I appreciate the help.
I have a rustler and havent had te problem yet. But it sounds like youre motorscrews arent holding up good... So, did you used the original motorscrew and tightend the good up? like really good? And if youre gear mesh is already too loose, it strips the spur. So try getting as tight as possible with te gear mesh(but not so tight that you hear its too tight) and tightnen those motorscrews up. Hopefully this helps :) If the problem keeps coming back, try another type of motorscrew.
It depends on what your doing. If your bashing yes. if your just doing a couple of speed runs here and there, no but yes if you want a higher top speed. when bashing and just messing around a 16t-19t pinion is best. and an 83, 86, or 90 tooth spur would be good. I run 16 and 83 with my rustler and the motor temp is the best i've seen it. If your car is fairly heavy i would lower the pinion as much as possible and raise the spur. motor should not get hotter than 150 f. but if you plan to do speed runs for top speed you'll have to gear higher in pinion and lower with spur but your motor will get very hot if you bash with a gearing like that.
Okay. But if I were you when you pick up your truck i would grab a smaller pinion with it because the one on the truck is still a little high for bashing. just keep an eye on the motor temps along with the esc. i fried my esc and ruined my motor on my truck with the stock gearing. VXL is definitely the way to go.
+Quentin C The Velineon VXL-3S I like it a lot haven't been able to run the truck lately though because I'm tight on money right now from fixing my 2000 Kawaskai KX100 !! I think I need my clutch adjusted and I need a new right inner tie rod end !!
TraxxasRCC alright thanks I didn't know lol and blew 35$ on a 2s ): had horrible results and whats a good brushless moter like from castle that can put my car within the 60mph to the 80mph range ?
I know my Traxxas Stampede 4x4 will do 30 mph stock but I installed the Velineon VXL-3S and I hear it can do around 60 to 65 mph depending on gearing and battery obviously :)
do you know if all motors are pretty much compatible in terms of mounting because im worried the new motor might not fit after i take out the brushed motor
I'm going to go ahead and watch this video, then go ahead and do this upgrade then go ahead and drive it then go ahead and say go ahead one more time...
+AquoizStudio ya I wasn't ready for the power, I thought it was going to be a little more poewerful...nope, so powerful I could do wheelies for like 2 street blocks, backflips on launch lol crazy fun
if its nitro powers I don't think you could but if you had the time and money yeah but It will be cheaper just to get a 4x4 slash just cause of the money it would to take for all the parts
thankyou so much that is a great relief to see how easy it is :)
Depending on the size of the spur gear, you will need to take it off to get the two black screws holding in the motor. Pretty much all stock spur gears will be to big. Because it's not in the way. lol is that not reason enough?
sunsweetsuitable because it's not necessary??
But he's switching motors.
I really loved your clip. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much for posting! That really helped!!!!
So all you need different to make it brushless is a motor and a ESC?
Hey thanks for the good content you have been the biggest help so far for my slash, keep it up, i have a couple of questions though, what type of oil is already in the slash 2wd and what would be the best oil upgrade for it?
Mason Morrison Do you mean oil for the transmission?
TraxxasRCC oh sorry, i meant the oil for the shocks
Oh ok, I recommend Team Associated or Team Losi. If you can't find what you want at a local hobby shop, I recommend Amainhobbies.com. Do you need help deciding the weight? Most Traxxas models have 30wt shock oil stock.

thnx for answering to my request bud
You have to remove the stock 90t spur to get to that other screw other than that seems pretty easy
dude! loved the video! GOOD JOB
You don't have to unscrew the super gear to change the motord
I did it to just explain how it all comes apart. :)
oh ok
Great help
Hello, what tires are you running? Those look good with the truck
Love my dynamite tool kit

Dude do I have to get a new receiver? Or can I use the old one?
I bought a rusler vxl and took brushless motor and esc and put it in my brushed slash. I could not get the control to connect or sync up. I put the brushed motor and xl5 back in and it worked. do you have to program the receiver? thanks
i tried to put my velineon system to a 27mhz and is spitting or not working at all would you know why
Do you have to change the receiver because I cant seem to find a brushless one. An answer would be much appreciated!
There's no such thing as a brushless reciever. An RC car reciever will work on any RC car. Nitro, Petrol, Brushed, Brushless etc
And then just turn it on?
Yep!! That easy !
@@kilAGage lol took a year to respond 🤣
New to rc so excuse me if this is a noob question lol, i got a stock slash i want to upgrade to brushless, apon installing the new motor, will i need to do any kind of break in process?.. thanks in advance
is it required tp take the slipper clutch to install it? because I just took off the spur gear by itself.
Big question, my motor or something around it is making a rattle noise, it still turns and moves but it doesn't sound right.
take off the gear cover and run a pin through the spur an pinion gear threds
Mine does the same thing but it's 10 times slower
Try moving your pinion gear closer to your spur
I have this exact same truck and a 40$ budget what can i do to go faster?
if you upgrade your motor do you need a different do you need a stronger battery because I want to upgrade my own I have a traxxas slash mark Jenkins edition with titan motor
You don't need to use a stronger battery if you don't want to. You will have more consistent throttle control with something like a 2s lipo and then more power with a 3s lipo. Also it depends on the motor and receiver that you choose. Let me know if I can help any more.
Sebastian Garcia so do i
I was wondering if you could donate the esc/motor from a 4wd, and put it in the 2wd. Will in not send enough power to the wheels?
Yes that will work 100% fine!!
Remote Control Channel ok thanks for the help
Hey do you need the tqi receiver and controller?
You don't have to take the spur off to change motors. And on a track setting what's the point of goin brush less with those type tires?
Does this work the same or similar with the 4x4 version?
Hello from Georgia! From what I can tell from your video there is no saudering required correct?
joegolden481 Correct, no soldering at all when you go with the Velenion VXL 3s.
TraxxasRCC all plug and play ? Have you ever used castle? Is this Vxl better?
Yea. I have used Castle back in the day. Honestly it depends what you are trying to do. For all around bashing, occasional tracking, etc, the VXL is the best system out for the Slash. Amainhobbies.com or DollarHobbyz.com. Pricing is better than a local hobby shop for sure!
why you take off the spur gear
I have 2 velineon 380s will they work for a slash 2WD
I did everything the video said, but when I turn it on (even after I program it) it will only run for a second then shut off… anyone know why? The battery is fully charged, and the red light is on a rapid flash

I just bought the new traxxas 2017 raptor 2wd wts a good motor to upgraded with
Congrats! The Traxxas VXL 3s brushless system is what I recommend.
i have a traxxis slash 2wd brushed is it worth upgrading to brushless
If you have the money. LMAO
Clorox bleach It makes quite a big difference. What kind of terrain are you on?
dirt or gravel
If you get a good set Proline or Jconcepts tires and a VXL 3s system, you will not regret it!
What wheels and tires are those..dynamite?
Okay 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
How much did it cost
What do I need to buy to make my 2wd xl5 slash brushless? is there a kit with everything I need if so where can I find it?
Just go to the traxxas website and in the parts area look for velenion brushless system it is the motor and esc
just go on amazon and search up traxas venelion brushless sysytem
+TraxxasRCC MY TRUCK wouldn't go at all !??? Im not sure why can u tell me?
Try re-linking the transmitter to the receiver.
i have a stampede vxl and ford raptor xl-5 mand plan on swapping motors do i need to change out the esc too?
+james young Yea, transfer both the esc and the motor from the stampede.
+TraxxasRCC hey pls reply I have a brushed ftx carnage and I want to change it brushless but do I need to change the reciever
no
thanks 🙂

what tires u running
How much would it cost me to upgrade to brushless for a Traxxas Stampede 4x4 ??
Depends what system but probably a bit above 100
+Quentin C Thanks it's brushless now :)
+Mathew LaBarge cool, what system did you go with?? :) glad I could help!

work for traxxas f 150 raptor svt?
what gears
?
can yall help me.?? I want to know if I out this in my 2wd slash(stock 30mph) how fast will it go with the veleneon
+jasiel andrade If you put a 3s lipo and the high speed gearing you can get the slash right around 60 mph!
TraxxasRCC alright thanks I didn't know lol and blew 35$ on a 2s ): had horrible results and whats a good brushless moter like from castle that can put my car within the 60mph to the 80mph range ?
+Jasiel Andrade the castle creations Mamba Monster can easily hit 65+ but the second it hits water it is done.
With the correct gearing, 60
I know my Traxxas Stampede 4x4 will do 30 mph stock but I installed the Velineon VXL-3S and I hear it can do around 60 to 65 mph depending on gearing and battery obviously :)
can my receiver stay stock if i change to brushless?
Joshua Huang No, you will need to change your ESC. If you mean your 2.4ghz receiving then no you do not need to swap it out.
Remote Control Channel oh man thank you sm ive been looking for an answer for a while
Remote Control Channel i plan to go all out on my motors and esc cuz i have basically unlimited 18650 batteries i salvaged from laptop batteries
do you know if all motors are pretty much compatible in terms of mounting because im worried the new motor might not fit after i take out the brushed motor
Thanks m8 ;)
can you do this on a stampede
yes, there the same
idiot
Yes
TraxxasRCC thx
1.5 Allan wrench
I'm going to go ahead and watch this video, then go ahead and do this upgrade then go ahead and drive it then go ahead and say go ahead one more time...
You don't have to take the spur off
wtf man it broke my diff, my spur gear got ate up, and my driveshaft broke, u never said to upgrade anything else lolol
I've velineon combo on my tx ford raptor , stock driveshafts , diff and more of things stock , well still works , just more control throttle :)
I'm waiting for MIPS X-Duty , I recommend it to you :)
+AquoizStudio I was just kidding, but that happened to me in the past on a 2wd I upgraded the motor and esc and lots of stuff started breaking lol
I know , brushless motor have moore power lol :D
+AquoizStudio ya I wasn't ready for the power, I thought it was going to be a little more poewerful...nope, so powerful I could do wheelies for like 2 street blocks, backflips on launch lol crazy fun
ya around 60 that's what I put out on my slash 2wd
You don't need to take the spur gear off...
hey bro
i need urgent help
Let me get a discount!!
My 1.5 just keeps slipping
You might have stripped the screw. Is that what it looks like?
TraxxasRCC yea what do I do
FearlessCrf Try grabbing a bigger Alan wrench to unscrew it. You need to get that screw out of the pinion gear.
does any one know how to convert a nitro slash to brushless
if its nitro powers I don't think you could but if you had the time and money yeah but It will be cheaper just to get a 4x4 slash just cause of the money it would to take for all the parts
I don't know why you would you've got tons of power on two wheels going brushless would only make it weaker
Hi
What battery did you use?
Larry Kelley if your transmission case is gray you have metal gears
Wtf?!?! If u go brushed to brushless dont u need to change ur receiver?
The motor that comes with this truck is junk
lol you mad?
what motor and esc do you have
+PepsiMan It is the Velineon 3s System
