Hi I brought my son a brushed traxxas rustler , and also brought the cool rc brushless motor, I can not find the right size pinion I realy need help with this as I have ordered about 20 pinions and the teeth or the centre shaft doesn't match up
Is this all you need to run the vxl system without damaging any of the stock brushed components(wheel bearings, drive shafts etc)? I’ve read online that you need to change some of the things in the wheels to ball bearings. Did your rustler work fine right after the vxl installation?
The only other thing I changed was the center driveshaft to the aluminum one. Worked Great since! The only thing i keep breaking are the half shafts in the rear becuase of all the power.
2s worked for me for a while, but it burned up the brushed motor very soon after bashing for 2 weeks. That's why I went with the brushless setup. Much better at handling power. Highly recommend the brushless kit. It completely transforms the truck.
So I'm going through the same process. When installing the aluminum center driveshaft, what all do I need to install the front hub so that the front of the driveshaft connects with the front differential??? I came into this problem when the parts came in and I tried researching and the forum on Traxxas website is temp closed right now 🤬 😂... Can you help me?
The brushless motor I’m using to replace my brushed motor has a bigger pinion gear. Is it required to put the smaller 12t pinion gear on or can I keep the bigger one?
What kind of battery are you using? The day after I bought my 4x4 rustler I went out and bought the same valineon set up and my rustler runs for five seconds and stops but the wheels still turn
What about it stopping? Does your esc have a blinking red light when it shuts down? I use only traxxas packs, but I use mostly the 3 cell 4000mah lipo.
GReviewz I took it to the hobby shop after work today and it runs great on the nimh battery now. The ESC was in Lipo mode and the guy at the hobby shop showed me how to switch the mode on the ESC. Thanks for the quick reply
Enzo, no, but then again, when I used 2s lipos with the vlx brushed system did smell bad after I ran it hard a couple of times. I wouldnt use it too often. Best is probably nimh batteries with that system.
What's the total cost of all the stuff required to make it brushless? Also, does the rustler 4x4 VXL brushless edition include the battery when you order it on traxxas.com ? Thanks.
Your motor fried it happened in my brushed emaxx it was smoking your lucky they can catch on fire lucky I had water just poured it on the motor and esc as a precaution
@@GReviewz @The Stag I'm currently working on that on my 4x4 slash but I have yet to find a brushless motor with a longer shaft than the usual 15mm. I tried an GoTen with a 15mm shaft to put that 11T or 13T pinion on. It works but I don't trust it to withstand a lot of pressure. Do you, by any chance know how to work around this problem?
Hi, just a question please, can you tell me if it's necessary to change some parts of the differential ? I see that you change your motor pinion but between this pinion and wheel axle, is it necessary to change something ?
@@GReviewz hello 😊, i have just a question about the 12T pinion gear. Can you tell me if you had any problems with the plastic pinion 54T (next to the pinion gear) ? Because I made the same things like you in your video, but my new 12T pinion gear destroyed all the teeth of is plastic neighbor (54T pinion) during my first vxl pack on my rustler... 😔 After this accident I realised that my 12T pinion gear was not tight enought on the velineon motor.. 😅 So i want to know if it's my fault or maybe the fault of the plastic pinion 54T. Should I buy a new plastic pinion 54T ? Or a metal pinion 54T ? Have a good day 😊
you say every time you take them out they will break unless you drive easy… But that's no fun so you say drive them hard… But you see it's catch 22… Now that you're driving it hard you just broke it so you're actually not driving it at all
The paper method is stupid. Just press the pinion tight against the spur then slightly back it away from the spur to allow for a bit of play between the two and your good.
i disagree wholeheartedly with your comment. i have a graveyard of stripped spur gears trying to "eyeball it: like you are recommending. The paper method is the only consistent way i have found to set correct mesh.
3 years later, and this is still the best video on the topic.
Thank you for the comment :)
Thanks for the video! Just upgraded my 1/10 rustler 4x4 stadium truck to vxl. Trucks been down since last summer so excited to run it!
It is night and day.... it is an absolute animal in vxl form.

My brushed motor lasted approximately 45 min lol
Not to be mean but if you need a video of how to do this you might be in the wrong hobby.

How fast much faster would it be
30mph faster than brushed
Is that gear used put on the motor the only one that can work with it, I tried it with a normal one but it doesnt sound right.
Thank you so much very helpful
How does the car run with the 12t pinion? Ive been thinking of installing a 13t pinion on mine. Same motor and esc.
The stock pinion is 10 and the 12t is acually considered too much on the chart
how is it holding up? just threw my xvl3s system in my new rustler from slash xvl. just wondering if it's worth keeping.
This helped me so much thanks
not a problem, we have rustler content coming soon! please like and subscribe!
Is this kit operable with a 5800 mAh 2 cell lithium battery? Thanks.
I’m looking for a some aluminum A arms for it I’m getting new caster blocks and I wanna get new shocks which ones do I get for my Traxxas rustler 4x4
What is the link to the velineon moter kit and the traxxas toolkit and is the traxxas kit neccessary or can i use another one
Here is the link to thr velineon 3500 kit. amzn.to/39XAe9R
No you dont have to use the traxxas toolkit, it is just convenient because it comes with all of the proper tools needed to fix the truck.
Hi I brought my son a brushed traxxas rustler , and also brought the cool rc brushless motor, I can not find the right size pinion I realy need help with this as I have ordered about 20 pinions and the teeth or the centre shaft doesn't match up
The pinion should be anywhere from a 12t to a 17t. 32 pinch.
The pitch is the most crucial and vital information as it's what allows the gears to mesh properly
Thanks for this great video. Would you mind sharing a link to the screwdriver you’re using here? Thanks!

Which 3s battery are you using that fits in the battery compartment? Did you have to modify the battery hold-down?

What's the fastest speed have you got up to
57mph is the quickest.
ruclips.net/video/EeQ7T0SP70I/видео.html 57mph is the fastest. Check out my video.
Is that big blue wire that sticks up needed or can that be taken out
That's the antenna.. it's optional.. the actual vxl version has this but shorter
But you do want to protect that wire inside as its the whole operation of your receiver
So My rustler is brushed so if I got that brushless system and kept the pinion gear stock and got a 3s how fast would it be
Mid 50mph range
