This may sound odd, but it actually makes me glad that you leave in things like "whoops, dumped some stuff on the floor", because I feel like a lot of videos get edited and polished to the point where, when I'm trying to change the tank setup and following a video (or having watched the videos beforehand to get an idea), it's unreasonably upsetting to me when I make a mess, like oh geez, what a dunce, who makes messes like this, I'm just clearly bad at this. ..Which I realize is a ridiculous thing to think, but..it is what it is. So seeing videos that aren't edited to make everything shiny and perfect makes me feel better about it, like yeah I can do this, and if I make a mess, well I just gotta clean it up and keep going.
I know exactly how you feel I had a pretty rough childhood and when I spill things i will genuinely burst into tears feeling like an idiot (yes I know it’s dramatic) so when other people are very normal and calm with things like that it’s always a step forward to helping me feel better about things like it :,)
Cute lizards, gorgeous new enclosure, surprise fun shout out to a new zealand company and some cool sustainable business practices I didn't know we were doing here, but the actual standout for me is that cabinet! Ed - tell me your secret! How did you make it look so pretty??? (Like, seriously, you've said a few times I think that Ed is pretty handy with the behind the scenes DIY stuff and I'd really love to see some videos about what he does and how because that pain job in particular is lovely!)
That enclosure actually is just now adequate, monitors are very strange and even the smallest need a really large enclosure because how intelligent and interactive they are and homemade is always preferred. But Emily always provides great enclosures!
can we just notice that's ed's shirt says: "I'm just one big freaking ray of sunshine." *u sure are ed* Edit: OMG! Thank you for all the likes! This is the most I've ever had!
Almost all my furniture is used. 90% came from goodwill, flea markets, antique shops and the like. Thrifting keeps things out of the land fills, also most of it is better quality than Ikea. I have a lovely 100 year old rocking chair made from oak that i just sanded down, applied a finish and made a new cushion for. All of that cost under 20$, including how much I spent on the chair! My dinning table I put together out of the top from a coffee table and the base of another, i'd found each separate and put them together and painted it all one color. The result is you get more unique and personal furniture, for half the cost of cheep mass produced stuff and you help the environment. You made that cabinet YOURS. There wont be another one just like it.
I know it is 4 years ago, but I just love that you have so much second hand furniture. I do too. I think half of my household is second hand. I just bought a new bed (ikea) and I had my old bed for 30 years and before that it was a 20+ years from my aunt. But it was an odd size and for the matress I had to buy very expensive ones (not fun). And I love to paint everything, to make it my own.
Pro tip: Hydroton (clay balls) can be bought in bulk at hydroponics supply shops. I buy 50 liter bags for less than a dollar per liter at Midwest Hydroponics. You can never have too much of this stuff on hand when you’re setting up enclosures.

With the substrate you used, and you two culling some invasive goldfish earlier this year. I had to pause for a few seconds, because Ed is wearing the best t-shirt EVER! Also, if Ed ever needs another job, pro window washers earn pretty decent money from what I have been told. Especially the ones who will do sky-scrapers. *Edit I am not even sure how to ask, but on my vacation recently, we went to an animal reserve that had some reptiles that I wondered about their lighting. They had a heat lamp, but maybe they weren't kept like that outside of business hours. I didn't notice anything wrong with the actual animals, just how they were kept during our tour. I have watched your channel enough to know UV light is needed, but not when or how much. I did notice there was no UV lights on any of the indoor enclosures we saw, and that some of the enclosures seemed super-small. I have been trying to convince myself that it was only during business hours, but there wasn't much space for better habitats for more than a very few of the animals. At one point, I thought to privately send you pics I took there, but now it's been a couple weeks, I still don't know the right thing to do. Again, the animals looked very healthy from what I have learned from your channel. Just not in the best habitats. I would still share my few pics with you, but they aren't very good, I am not remotely a pro at pics. If you want them for a more educated guess, I would like them to remain anonymous from your fans.
@@greyo3574 There were some turtles and alligators and snakes I worried about, mostly the turtles. I might not have all the proper names, I am not an expert. It wasn't JUST the UV, I also worried about the size of the habitats. Example: the one I worry most about is this one very large turtle that had maybe 6 inches in front and to the side. I do have a pic of that; I hope they never leave him there long! It was little more than a plastic box with water! There was a couple large snakes that looked coiled into a smaller space than Emily and Ed recommend for them. They also had about 20 about 2 or 2.5 ft long alligators (might have been more) in a space about the size they use for Rex. I have no doubt these animals are being fed well, but 20 in that space seems a little much. They do have a very good reason for not putting them with the bigger alligators- the bigger ones have attacked smaller ones in the past. The biggest 'gator they currently have lives nearly half the year outside with a big pond and plenty of sun and also plenty of shade. I don't think the people are deliberately cruel or neglectful, but I do think they need some advice and help.
If you're interested in a fun looking plant for a future build, might I recommend a starfish sansaveria (or starfish snake plant if you prefer)? It tends to have a BUNCH of babies in each pot, and they look like green hands!
hey Emily i luv ur vlog and ur animals r all so great. watching u brought mr to brian and then others....u guys r doing so good....and i luv how u take care of ur gator
@@gerritrookworst3701 The mink man is training an Argus monitor. The biggest difference is that the timors remain small as adults, but the argus can reach 5 feet in length. Also, he chose the argus because they get pretty big, they are agile, and they're prey-driven. Raptor is now a juvenile and will take some time till will reach full length and be able to hunt rats, and even now, he is bigger than an adult timor monitor.
I've always wanted a reptile but it's been a tough few years for me and I'm getting my crap together, I'm 16 and jobless and my dad wouldn't wanna pay. Oh, and my cat would go nuts. Someday I'll have a scaly friend ^^
You can make a stencil of your logo with light plastic and an exact knife. Use like plastic from those old report covers from work and college. The clear works for temporary stencils. The thicker plastic backs work for more reusable ones. Love the Timor! You guys inspire me daily! Scaly love!!! 💚💚💚

If you want them for a more educated guess, I would like them to remain anonymous from your fans.
not all reptiles need uvb. most lizards do but frogs and snakes typically don’t.
The screwdriver was to tuck the screen back in where it had popped out of the frame.
I think the screwdriver was used to push the mesh back into place. The mesh isn't really attached, it's just pushed into a plastic or metal frame.
I've never seen a reptile drink water before, it would be cool if they made a montage of all their animals drinking.
People who aren’t from the Midwest when they hear menards 👁 💧 👄 💧 👁

The mink man hunts with one of those it called rapter
XD
Is it really a Timor monitor though? I thought it was a different species
@@falafel9137 yeah i know i Just forgot what species it was. But i was sure it was not a Timor monitor.
I thought you wrote Milkman for a moment and wow what a badass milkman xd
I love the money saving tips plus the paint holder never thought that would be a good water bowl genius!❤️
you’ve gotten so good at editing!! love watching the bioactive enclosure setups
Emily's money saving tips: just go to Menards.
Ok so when you put the clay balls in I though they were *chocolate* and not clay-
I had low volume on for some reason-..
Bruh me too
I've always wanted a reptile but it's been a tough few years for me and I'm getting my crap together, I'm 16 and jobless and my dad wouldn't wanna pay.
I'm always amazed by how much you two care for your animals 🥺
Who won the bioactive build off? I’ve asked thousands of times and I watch your videos. I’ve never seen a result.
It was on a live stream and im pretty sure they said Emily technically Emily won but the frogs liked Ed's better hope this helped
Bailee Jones Thank you so much. 🥰 Mysteries like that drive me crazy 😂
No problem I wondered that to for a while
Emily by a lot but the frogs liked Ed’s better.
