Quick reminder as a long term hobbyist and Mill-Max/Hotswap Awareness campaigner: Always always make sure your pins are straight before you try to get your switch into these sockets. Remember, if it is taking too much force than the rest, something is wrong. On that note, also try to support the socket with the other hand, using finger to hold the socket and thumb to hold the edge of the pcb. Helps a lot :) Great video about this repair!
This is the most concise and clear video I could find on this matter. I just popped off a socket and I really panicked. I'm getting some help on discord, and this really helped me wrap my head around the process. Thanks!
@@alanalan1436 I resolved the issue thanks to issey83's help at discord. All I did was pretty much the same as what was shown is this video, but issey really helped me with the step by step process with much patience. You can hit him up if you still got the problem with your pcb sockets.
This video was incredibly helpful, thankyou - it helped me fix my S key and Z keys on my keychron k2 v2 when I put it all together after months of it being apart, due to those finicky and breakable micro-SMD switches on the side. Your video allowed me to actually get my keyboard working in a usable state, rather than potentially fixing it to 90% complete then putting it in the "oh well, mistakes happen" pile. cheers.
@@jiwany I wish I could remember. It was about 2 years ago. I think I repaired the line with a wire, but it still didn't work. It was that pesky 1qaz column.
I have the same issue in regards to the socket popping off, however I have a little bit of trace that ripped off of the PCB. Any ideas on how I would resolve both of those issues?
in my situation the hot swap socket fell and i wasnt able to find it but i could buy some online except the metal thing in the board also came off how do i fix it do i just but like something metal in it or a solder a metal in it then i solder the hotswap socket?
Heres the problem with my board. I broke the letter "K" and it doesnt work anymore. But when I check behind the PCB, everything is still intact. I'm really confused and I wasn't sure how to fix this. I also have a problem where if I press windows, theres a chance that instead of windows being pressed, it gets registered as if im pressing F1, 1, Q, A, Z all at the same time. any help?
Ye i got the same problem today my ”V” key stop working i checked if the socket poped out it didnt i tryed a different switch still No response idk if i need to do this for it to work
hey, that happened to me but it turned out the socket-to-socket connection was the wrong one. i think PCBs come in different arrangements so you'll have to check your specific board to see the issue i could make out the trace from one side of the hot swap socket to the diode so i knew where i needed to make that connection. The other side of the socket didn't have any visible traces so i defaulted to doing a horizontal connection to another socket like the video above....but that was the wrong way, and when I made that connection, that's when I got the error you wrote aobut when i flipped the PCB over i could see the trace from that socket to the one under it, vertically - that was the right connection I needed to make. when i connected to that socket instead, it worked! long explanation but hopefully you follow - and hopefully you can see the traces, just make sure you check both sides of your pcb
probably shorted the wrong pin to nearby connection. Only one pin is a common ground, the other one is very specific and can't just be soldered to the next switch

Oh god the Terran music from SC2 is so wonderful to hear. Thanks for the concise guide to replacing some hotswap sockets!

Same problem here, I hope for the best, good luck.

Dude, thank you so much for this video. I was so pissed at myself for messing up my QK75 build and now it's like nothing ever happened.
thanks this was the simplest vid ill be doing the repair tomorrow.
Very clear video, thank you! Suggestion: the background music does not help focusing, and can be problematic for impaired people.
Genius, saved my day
Starcraft soundtrack is the only appropriate background music while soldering
No bullshit. Thanks!
Thanks, this was really helpful to me. I've got a whole column out...gonna do some experimentation!
how did you fix the column? i dont have any popped sockets and it happened to me
@@jiwany I tried, didn't work for me. Can't remember what happened to that board. There's a break in the line somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
@@elasmojones oh so you tried testing with multimeter to see where it was broken and couldnt find it? thanks for replying

When you’re checking continuity do you plug the keyboard in
Hahaha I was like « shit I exited Starcraft, what is going on? » then paused the vid.
This is so helpful! Thank you so much!
ok. Starcraft 2 theme music, nerd voice... Idra is that you?
In my rk61 a column of keys (total 4 keys) stopped working. I don't know what to do
Great simple vid! Thanks for the info!

i was wondering if you may please link the stuff we need , like what type of wires you use to connect the socket to other socket , etc etc

im confused because you're soldering sockets to other sockets and i get that the diode is unique for each switch so....im worried I'll get it wrong
Use a multimeter to verify like he does in the video

or , you just could scratch the surface and solder the socket to it XD
👍
i did the same thing but the socket that i soldered registers to the socket i soldered it to

А на пробел как установить если сломался?
