The lock of hair jewellery goes back to the 18th century. So it might even be older than Victorian. It’s worth it to do some research on your piece. I think it’s very interesting. Some times when there was an epidemic, more than one person’s hair would be in a piece. Sad to think about it… it’s a good thing this piece found you so to speak and it’s not just in someone’s attic.

Great video Bridget! Such an amazing bell jar! Love all the curious world videos but I feel like your enthusiasm and personality really shone through in this video in particular, this was so much fun to watch 😁 Don't know if you've read much Philip K. Dick but I love his short stories for their strange otherworldly atmosphere, might be your thing!

"Later" by Stephen King is really good definitely in my top 3 Stephen King reads, "Carrion Comfort" by Dan Simmons is a good "super natural" read too

Yes I do! But I keep a lot in boxes (especially the paper materials--newspapers, ephemera, etc) I wouldn't mind having more space!

I love Wilkie Collins; I have that "Tales of Terror" book I just haven't gotten around to it. The horror stories I love the most are those of MR James - lots of spooky ideas and fun Britishy things. For my money, I prefer Golden Age authors like R. Austin Freeman (the Dr. Thorndyke series) and JS Fletcher over Agatha Christie, though I did enjoy "The Last Seance" by Christie. It's always nice to see what other people are reading!

Ooh "The Last Seance" sounds interesting, I'll add that to my list. MR James is great, I read "Ghost Stories of an Antiquary" not too long ago. And I don't think I've heard of R. Austin Freeman or JS Fletcher! Would you recommend a particular book of either's to start with?

@@TheCuriousWorldThe Red Thumb Mark by R Austin Freeman is the first in a series of Dr Thorndyke novels that were supposed to be a more serious answer to Sherlock Holmes, a series which I’ve been enjoying. As for JS Fletcher, I like The Borough Treasurer - many of his books involve some amount of economic / business themes which is a fun glimpse into that part of Edwardian England.
