I’m currently studying psychology, and this truly reminded me to start making time for self care. Your videos have truly helped through my studies :)))
Very timely reminder, thanks Ro :) Btw I think I heard you say something about making a weekly video. As much as we love your content, please don't feel pressured to upload weekly! Everything you've already posted has been super helpful and if you take a bit longer to make a new video, we'll know that you're just taking time for self-care 😉
Xiè xiè~ So true, and unfortunately...I find this is often the case with psychology students themselves. They choose not to touch base with free uni counselors, often they will not visit a GP for a Mental Health Plan either. I think we as psych educators need to encourage students (undergrad and post grad) to reflect on Their attitudes toward their personal mental health, and reasons they may be reticent to make contact with a counselor...when so many are training to become such a counselor themselves! I don't think many are aware of how Debriefing with a counselor can help with their own awareness of their strengths at coping, as well as manipulative strategies. It's really not till 3rd year that many students are asked to do this...for an assignment. I'm aware of my flags: restless sleep, speaking in a high pitched voice and fast, not eating much or nutritionally sound, heart palpitations Strategies: chores! I can control my immediate environment, chat with others inc. a counsellor, increase yogurt and water to support my adrenals, taking what I can off my plate, creating more 'islands' in my day (Jung's idea), which for me is the scents of incense or my diffuser, indulging in theoretical reading at night, 5 minutes of creativity on a project or around the home
Thanks for sharing Charmayne! I completely agree, there's so much pressure in undergrad and we're told to access care but there's still so much stigma. It took me ages to actually contact a psychologist for the first time, hopefully we're working on changing the tides!
HI - self care is so very important - more than ever in 2022 with everything going on in the world right? Do you find mindfulness practices are helpful? I do find mindfulness practiced on a daily basis can be so effective in calming our nervous system and grounding. What do you think? I am a Clinical Psychologist based in WA.
There are things that aren't self care though like a drug addict they aren't doing any self care they might say the drugs is there self care also there has to be that intent to care for yourself like not just doing it and not know why your doing or like your doing it because people tell you to do it or if I do this people will like me
Hey ro, can you please suggest me a way to not convert self care into our comfort zone. For example, If I have an exam tomorrow and have to revise my syllabus , sometimes I feel like I am exhausted and cannot continue study but then I got confuse with the thought that it's just my excuse to not to study. Hoe can I differentiate between self care and comfort zone? BTW I really love your videos🥰.. keep going 👍
@@cairosilver2932 ya I do have but still I kind of get nervous before exams and feels like I should keep on studying more and more to score better. Don't you think getting good marks and working hard for it is also important?
Great question! I usually think no matter what if you are so exhausted you can't focus it's a sign you need to recharge. It's surprising that sometimes taking a break first gives us the energy to keep going. If you are constantly feeling like you're procrastinating even when energetic I would recommend reaching out to your high school or uni learning centre (chat to your teachers/ lecturers) because it could also be an issue with study skills!
@@dhwanisoni4487 I think you as a person are important - after that comes study and marks as a secondary priority. Maybe check if you are feeling you have to keep studying because study and marks have first priority with you.
@@thepsychdiaries thank you so much 🥰 I hope we can really meet one day . I am coming to Australia next year foe studying psychology. I hope things go well and we may get to interact. Your videos have really inspired me a lot !❤

What is your advice for new therapists? I begin working with children as a provisional psych in the next 2 months and I’m
Terrified!!!
Definitely chat to your supervisor about it! But that is such a univeral experience, it just shows me how much it means to you. You've got this!
One of the greatest evils in society is self care... "By serving others our own highest needs are met..."
