Personally, draining the coolant is excessive, just drain it of water and done, air doesn't freeze. Store the outdrive all the way down to relieve pressure on your bellows.

I drained my coolant also. Empty bare block. My out drive oil was milky :/
Yea youll have that. Mine was a tad this year too. May need to re seal it soon.
