Thanks for watching my video(s)! Germany is friendly to RC modellers as long as they are within the very strict Noise levels. For airshows exemption approval can be obtained. Here in Ireland it is good, but only at at least a mile from the nearest houses to avoid complications. Hi Rusty, Thank you for your nice comment. I begun recording Super 8 movie film 1964 and progressed to HD Video. This bird strike recording was made with a Sony DV camera, shoulder supported for following flying models relatively shake free. Regards Fred
Had a Aus Boomerang as a trainer, switched to a Phoenix Classic when it finally became beyond repair and that's the best thing I ever did. The boomerang had a few points in it's favour, mostly the high lift wing, the Phoenix Classic flew great as a trainer but capable of a lot more and didn't tend to want to bounce so much when landing. Been flying for 15 years or so and planning on getting another Phoenix Classic one day. My favourite plane during learning was my LA Racer tail dragger, it did everything well and I much prefer a tail dragger to those stupid tricycle landing gear setups where the front leg is forever getting bent back and you immediately destroy yet another expensive prop. Tail dragger pilots break props often too, not so often with me though. I hold full up elevator while I apply power which holds the tail down under power and start easing off as it gets speed up then just the slightest as it reaches takeoff speed to none and let it float up. I've seen so many tail dragger pilots give them throttle and a tiny rock or grass root slightly catches a wheel and it's immediate nose over and busted prop. It's very effective to hold full up elevator and with the direct blast from the prop under power it almost completely stops that happening. You do have to be extra ready if you've got a strong headwind though or it can lift before you're ready and almost immediately do a backflip.
HiAllen, Unfortunately the pilot did not want the wreckage videoed, so there is no definite proof either way. However, you are not alone with your assessment Thank you for watching, regards Fred
A bird strike will usually include a flurry of feathers from the subject bird. But who knows? the perspective made it look like the birds were behind the aircraft. That or they were large birds given the scale of the model.
May be you are correct. The pilot packed the bits of his plane away. I would have liked to see if some evidence was left of a possible Bird Strike... Great you watched the video, thank yo for the comment. Regards Fred

Is there a trick to flying these? Because when I flew my first RC plane it was the beginner, and I stalled the engine and 3 inches off the ground I saved it and then it rolled over and kamikaze attacked the ground.
Most of these crashes are the typical roll to the left called torque rolling, this can be corrected by mounting the engine slightly down and to the right to compensate for the problem. Clearly the guys building these planes are not compensating for this in their build. It also appears they are not giving the plane enough power at the beginning causing a tip stall at the end of the torque roll. By changing your settings on your transmitter you can have it set up to compensate by simply flicking a switch an the mix for the airelons should help.
1. Most crashes are pure pilot error. 2. Usually, it's using the ailerons instead of rudder. 3. Elliptical wings, like a Spitfire, are extremely treacherous when scaled down. 4. That last plane was improperly balanced and structurally weak. That guy probably would not have been invited to fly at our field a second time without being retrained from scratch.
Hi Pete! since I don't know anything about the past performance of this Builder/Pilot I can not disagree with you! Thanks for watching and greetings, Fred

I just don’t get why some people can’t understand why their models usually end up in pieces because of some of these runway surfaces. Whether it’s long grass or bumpy as hell, it’s not to difficult to understand why they are nosing over and tearing landing gear all to hell. You would think that with some of these large flying fields and clubs they would have a better surface prepared. Doesn’t seem to be too difficult to at least roll it with a heavy water or sand filled drum roller like they use for laying sod, or even small steamroller or ride on compactor. I would think that would make a huge difference and be quite easy. Cutting the grass to a more appropriate length I would think would help too. When the grass is more than twice as long as your tires are tall why would you be surprised when something like this happens? And yes I do fly so I don’t doubt the skills that most of these pilots actually have, more just common sense I would think. And bird strike?? More like sheep strike lol.

If you are too slow to react to your airplane getting out of control, then you are flying above your ability level, or not flying enough to keep in practice. As long as no people are injured, this is not a problem. Quite a bunch of rc pilots never focus adequately on correct adjustment and functioning of model airplane control systems, on understanding basic aerodynamics, nor learning to effectively program their transmitters. Sometimes enough fun can still be had by occasional fleeting moments of being airborne.......and fellowship with others.
There's a word some of these guys need to hear, it's called FLARE. That one warbird landing @ 4:45 was beautiful, most of the rest, not so much. Most of them go well beyond hemorrhoid checkers (as my full scale instructor used to call them) into full blown pancake type crashes. And opposite aileron when you are full stalled at landing is not going to roll you the way you want to go, especially when the left tip is draggin' the weeds. Just sayin'. Didn't look like he was hit, but you can see one bird fold wings for a bit longer than usual in an apparent avoidance maneuver. The outcome, though, looked like there was contact, unless the pilot just let it spook the hell out of him and lost concentration and put in something stupid for control inputs and froze. Shame, beautiful aircraft, the consoles were amazing. Almost always happens sooner or later, though. At least he got it on video, some consolation, I expect, but not much. These hobbyists know, just like all the rest of them, that their pride and joy has a limited time here on Earth.

Clearly NOT a bird strike, unless those birds are the size of eagles. Slow motion also makes it painfully obvious that the birds are flying BEHIND the model which si flying away from the camera not towards, so a bird strike is not an possaiblity here.
In 1971 I was stationed over seas at both FligerHorst in Hanau Germany and in Vietnam in the Cantoe area. There was a squadron of Broncos one mile away that 40+ years ago I recall were called OV 10 Broncos.
You hear bird strikes even if they touch the prop. So I doubt it had anything to do with the birds. Looks like it lost power in one engine and it tip stalled on the banked side.
No click bait here, but for me I don’t see a bird strike, considering the size of the model Bronco, those birds would be massive! They are flapping quite fast which would suggest smallish birds, perhaps telephoto lens made them look closer to the Bronco than they actually were.

10:17. It looks like the guy had the controls reversed. I did that on my first flight on my P-51D Mustang. But I manage to land it with reverse controls.
Has anyone thought about rigging some automatic AIRSOFT, metal Pellet guns maybe if you’re smart enough some DIY Rockets (guided or unguided) and Motion tracking POV cameras? That would be taking bird hunting to a whole new level?

You hear bird strikes even if they touch the prop. So I doubt it had anything to do with the birds. Looks like it lost power in one engine and it tip stalled on the banked side.
I tell him, for this time your recomendation is to late!
Thank you for your contact.

The Bronco must have been several hundred feets away, if not; those sparrows had to be giant birds. Easy to be fooled by a telezoom shot.
At 5.12 minutes what model is that please?
Great you sent a comment MclF01

No click bait here, but for me I don’t see a bird strike, considering the size of the model Bronco, those birds would be massive! They are flapping quite fast which would suggest smallish birds, perhaps telephoto lens made them look closer to the Bronco than they actually were.

Moral of the story flying from grassy fields bordered by wired fences is too much fun?
Sorry,

However, the plane did go down shortly afterwards.

No birds were harmed in the making of this video
Has anyone thought about rigging some automatic AIRSOFT, metal Pellet guns maybe if you’re smart enough some DIY Rockets (guided or unguided) and Motion tracking POV cameras? That would be taking bird hunting to a whole new level?
Indeed Chat Clark! Thanks for your visit to the ScaleJetFred RUclips channel with 150 videos.
