It's based on a true story, that of Ronald Alcala, who went on The Dating Game in the midst of a serial killer spree. Although, in that case, the woman chose not to go out with him because he was creepy (which sent him into a rage, where he killed at least 3 more women).

Yes, she called the show after filming and said "no way will she go to (if I remember right Universal Studios Theme Park in Florida) any where with him. There's a 10 episode podcast, that's well worth the time to listen to called "The Dating Game killer". This guy is the reason why shows do background checks on their guests before they allow them on the shows.
