These are my favorite contemporary guitar players, I am happy to see them together. It would be good to see more videos from this gig. I think these two are currently the masters of melodic guitar improvisations, it is the next generation of guitar players that goes beyond the fusion masters such as Robben Ford or John Scofield because of technical refinement. Oz Noy plays a bit more in the modal tradition and Guthrie Trapp plays more arpeggio chord based patterns. Oz sounds more mathematical and refined, Guthrie sounds more musical, whatever it means. No matter what they say during interviews, the roots of their playing is very intellectual, there is a lot of thought given to these lines. I think Oz is at his peak, while Guthrie could still improve by implementing more of the modal-based lines. So, my only comment is that not everything has to come "out of the chord" I always think of Kind of Blue, Flemenco Sketches and the solo by Cannondale Adderly, which is my favorite melodic modal solo (it's magic how he has improvised something out of nothing, in some sense). Joe Henderson can do it too, e.g,. in his Standard Joe album.

Oz has a beautiful way of playing blues tunes with incredible chops and NO emotion at all lmao. Like id rather watch this online than pay to go live and feel fucked over by the absolute lack of urge to want to dance or move haha. Scofield will always be the pinnacle for me, cause any of his projects he does for fun are fucking fun and funky and full of dancey energy. Obv not the Jazz trio and whatnot. Lile Oz and Guth here could of easily played the crowd into motion. Im not exactly sure why you wouldn't want to do that
