  • See how I custom animate logos in Apple Motion. In this video, you'll see my entire process, from assessing a logo and coming up with an idea, to actually animating in Apple Motion, using masks, keyframes, colorize, and other filters.

    Just wanted to say thank you for this. I struggled with my inverted mask moving, came back and watched again and sure enough you covered it, (Group made it behave like an individual item) The luma keyed tip is also fantastic. I've learnt so much from this, keep on doing what you're doing, I hope the views and subscribers pick up.

    Great tip on the Luma Keyer - that is something I never thought about. You are the master of the mask for sure. As with most of my clients, I typically ask for the .ai or a psd file from them. That way I just bring the logo parts into Motion and have full flexibility. This is another great workaround when all you have is the png or jpeg of the client logo.

    hey Jenn, I learned so much, thank you! I'm extremely new to Motion, and I find it's a bit reminiscent of Adobe Flash (now Animate), in terms of the layers and properties, grouping, masking etc. So very cool, and I'm thrilled I've found your channel.

    Thanks Jenn. I find the workflow in motion arcane. I’m new to it and I usually like direct (visual) manipulation of assets, whereas Motion is all about select this, inspect it, adjust properties, invert that. Deeply confusing and non-intuitive. Which is why you were sent to this Earth! But I do wonder why Motion can’t have Photoshop style tools for cutting, colour selection etc.. It would be more Apple-style if they were more Adobe. Which is a paradox. Anyway, I’m sure if I watch this 1000 more times I will eventually gain some proficiency. Instead of glaring at the screen going [what?!]. So thanks for helping me teach myself frustration I mean animation.

    Great video Jenn. I am trying to become more familiar with Apple Motion. With me being very new to it, I was wondering if you were planning on making videos that start with very basic things or focus solely on a few parts in a series format? For example, you went to "Filters" and then "Keying" and then "Luma Keyer". I was wondering if you could make a video that goes over (Keyer, Luma Keyer, Matte Magic, and Spill Suppression) or going through a variety of "Blurs" as another example and how you would use these different components. Obviously, this is very specific stuff and would take a lot of planning to develop videos in a series format but it's a suggestion that I feel would benefit a lot of people like me who are so new to Apple Motion. Not many people tackle the challenge of making educational videos with it and right now you are leading the charge with this channel. There are a lot of "Filters" and "Behaviors" that can be explained in a simplistic way by someone with your expertise and with this being a newer channel, I can't imagine it wouldn't lead to a lot more subscribers since people would batch the content. You certainly deserve to have far more than 546 at the time of writing this comment. You bring high quality to a complex tool like Apple Motion.

    I've designed an animated logo (on actual paper), and have been struggling to make it thru FCPX (the only program I've so far learned to use). I've only just learned that Motion exists, but after watching your video, it seems like it might be the right program to approach my project. My logo idea basically has water drops impacting a surface and the resulting ripples would reveal the logo. Is there an easy way to make this kind of effect in Motion? Is it more of a possible-but-long process? Or not possible at all?

    Don’t know if you will help me. I forgot how to make a mask for a drop zone so I could drop in a vertical image, so it would size up properly. I trying to come back into my own with Motion5.
    I had tried to get a few of the motion5 developers to show me how they were using clones of image rows & columns in image walls. So these 3 rows & 8 to 12 columns wouldn’t text my laptop with these high res Jpegs in these images walls with 3d cameras I was creating.
    They wouldn’t help.

    Thanks Jenn, great video. I have a question. I'm trying to animate a logo in a similar way. I'm trying to make one of my masked sections spin in from 90° on the Z axis in 3D. However at the keyframe where the logo is at 90°, a white line appears... it's as if you're looking straight on at the edge of the border of the whole logo... however the line disappears the moment the animation starts. 89°, no line... any other angle, no line... only at 90°... How do I get rid of the line at 90°? I'm stumped! :(

      I answered my own question :-D, I placed the section in it's own group and rotated the group. No line. :)

    Hi Jenn! Great content! I just subscribed to this and your other channel today and I've watched quite a few already (hmm patreon 🤔). I have a question, where do you get inspiration for the videos you make for your clients? I have a very important client that was very generic in his briefing and I'm finding it hard to find videos to get inspiration from. On google I just get the high budget superbowl ads and such. I wanted a place to get ideas from, and then I'll figure out how to emulate certain effects. I'm not able to think something up from scratch in Motion, I have to have some sort of reference. Thank you!

    • @JennJagerPro
      @JennJagerPro  3 года назад

      Hmmm may I ask what kind of client?

    • @BrunoMaestrini
      @BrunoMaestrini 3 года назад

      @@JennJagerPro they do web analytics. It’s an explainer video, but I don’t want just a talking head/voice over with screen recording of the tool. I wanted to play with numbers, have them move on the screen or something like that.

    • @JennJagerPro
      @JennJagerPro  3 года назад

      I would suggest doing exactly what you’re describing, but also shooting the client talking about the product live action so you don’t have to cover the entire explainer video with that kind of animation unless they have a very big budget because it’s very labor-intensive. That way you can cut away to the live action interview and reduce the amount of animation. Personally, I think too much live action (in this type of situation) is boring, but too much animation can also feel monotonous. A mix between the two would bring a human element to the tech which is nice. My two cents anyway.

    • @BrunoMaestrini
      @BrunoMaestrini 3 года назад

      @@JennJagerPro Thank you so much for the two cents, I'll use them wisely. I'll mix the two and see what I can come up with. Thanks again :D
