I agree with your last opinion, but also metalheads are just as guilty as other folks with judging the way people look. If I am out and about, dressed nice without metal gear and I compliment a metalhead on their shirt, I always get dirty glares and scoffed at. My unpopular opinion is that: Just because someone dresses nice or “normal” doesn’t make them any less of a metal fan. I don’t need to dress a certain way to enjoy music, that’s silly.

Exactly! I listen to a lot of really heavy stuff like black metal, infant annihilator, cannibal corpse etc and i sometimes wear normal clothes and you would have no idea that i listen stuff like that. Your clothes dont tell how metal you are, i thought metalheads were the kind of folks who dont give a fuck about what people think or how they look.

@@meredithd95 All those pathetic awards shows are simply to promote the latest artists of the music industry (in reality, it should be called the 'beautiful face with a mic' industry (ha)...rather than anything to do with musicians). To quote some of my favorite lyrics of Al Jourgenson (Ministry)..."We use them awhile and it's over the shoulder". Even the most "treasured and influential" musical celebrities are just as disposable as the paper plates and plastic cups people buy from big box store if they suddenly disappoint. The music industry is repulsive. I feel bad for young artists like Billie Eilish who are put on the world's stage before they have any of their own genuine opinions and life experiences they've had to share with an audience. Pop musicians don't sell music anymore...they sell beer, Doritos, Pepsi, makeup, and clothes, etc. (a controlled image to penetrate wallets...sad but true).

Unpopular opinion: It's OK for a metal band to try something different from the usual deathcrushing from time to time, or to branch out from their original sound and explore some new territory.
I mostly enjoyed what happened when the bottom fell out of the generic thrash metal and death metal markets back in the '90s, and bands were forced to sink-or-swim, surviving by either doing their thing really, REALLY well, or trying something else that nobody else had ever done before, expanding the boundaries of metal into Gothic, industrial, new wave, retro-rock, and other territory.
And, I mostly enjoy it when a band known for great death metal, black metal, thrash metal, or whatever does a one-off EP, album or song or two in a style they aren't known for... Candlemass steered away from doom metal for one EP's worth of novelty drinking songs, and it was a hell of a lot of fun... Morbid Angel's David Vincent recorded a couple outlaw country/western songs out of nowhere, and it was an absolute hoot, I'm not a country/western fan, but i play those songs more than most of the extreme metal Morbid Angel has been playing for most of the last 20 years... Therion recently did an album of covers of 1960s-era French pop songs and a disco cover or two that I found to be surprisingly good, and a great change of pace from Therion's usual symphonic/Gothic metal format, which was beginning to feel a bit tired and repetitive and badly needed a change of pace.
This stuff seems to really piss off long-time fans, who begin the inevitable cries of "SELL OUT!" But I don't really get it - of course, these departures from a signature style or sound are not going to be for everyone, nor are these sorts of experiments guaranteed to be good, but they don't seem to me to be worth getting mad at the band over, and they certainly aren't signs of "selling out" - if anything, these side-trips take the bands into territory that is guaranteed to not sell well to anyone but hardcore fans of the band, or people with extremely odd tastes in music: really, how many fans of '60s French pop songs, novelty drinking songs, or satanic country/western are there out there? These bands were just going to upset their fan bases by releasing something a little weird and different, and they did it anyway knowing there wasn't an audience for it... whether you like the results or not, it was hardly a safe move for the bands who tried it. In a lot of ways, these are the most "metal" albums possible: not only were they going to be too weird and uncomfortable for normies, but also for metalheads who prefer their metal to be safe and predictable....
Anyway, TL;DR: It's not a popular opinion, but I think it's perfectly OK for a metal band to try something different... I'm not guaranteed to like it, but I at least respect it when they try something so weird, nobody is likely to like it!

My take on #3 - Too Many Solos: I agree completely, but I'll expand that to filler and padding of all sorts. Heavy metal albums used to work really well back in the days when they were 30-40 minutes long and you didn't have songs that were packed with unnecessary filler, songs that were extended far longer than they really needed to be so that you have an album loaded with 8 or 15 minute songs that feel like they're twice as long as they needed to be, three or four indistinguishable techno remixes of the album's title song, and mediocre and repetative songs that would have been left on the producer's cutting-room floor back before the larger-capacity CD format started encouraging artists to pack the album with more of the same.
I get that the labels and musicians want to give us our money's worth by filling that CD end-to-end with something, anything, but this filler is rarely a bonus.
I think I'd rather see 40 minutes of killer songs, with maybe a bonus cover song, an experiment in another genre (the inevitable dance remix if you must, but wouldn't it be far more fun to see a newer metal band try their hand at the all but dead metal ballad subgenre, or a black metal band do a one-off doom metal song, or an industrial metal band try one standard-issue thrash song, or a folk metal band take on the challenge of writing a good country/western song or something just to really break the rules up a little and do something risky?)
I kind of miss the days when metal bands were allowed to have a sense of humor and include novelty songs, too: it used to be common for thrash albums to clown around a bit with a funny song or two to switch up the dead-serious mood a little, but now, everyone seems scared that cracking a smile once in a while might ruin their credibility as a metal band....
Hell, I even miss the eerie, experimental death metal intros, acoustic interludes, and extended ambient noise pieces that used to be almost ubiquitous for bands copying Celtic Frost... sure, at its worst it was pretentious filler, but at its best, that sort of thing helped to elevate albums like the Frost's 'To Mega Therion', Tiamat's 'Wildhoney', or Obituary's 'Cause of Death' to classics. Sure, it was filler, but in those cases, it was restrained filler, and never (IMHO) distracted from the punchy, to-the-point rockers on those albums. (It helps that the songs varied in length, mood, speed, and style on these albums, too - again, it wasn't wall-to-wall sameness filling CD space for the sake of filling it!)
If nothing else, a little of that extra space can be filled with live demos or rough mixes without all the studio overproduction, or songs performed in front of live audiences, so we can hear what these bands sound like when they aren't caked in ten tons of autotune and pro-tools makeup.
And there's nothing wrong with leaving that space unfilled, if all you've got is enough material for a damned good EP.
Anything, but please stop filling an hour of CD space with bland, repetitive, bloated filler for the sake of filling space....

Basically, Testament has taken Anthrax's place in The Big 4. Anthrax may have been bigger in the classic thrash era, but over the past 20 years? I strutted out on the street (in my tiny religous village) and got a lot of dirty looks. For a while it really bothered me but i was young and naive. Sure, they could have "prepared" by leaving their 'band tshirt' in their car, while they're off at work. But, its easy to forget when we're tired and rushing to go to work. Also, many of the musicians that are LITERALLY ONSTAGE are wearing "normal" clothes. So for them its ok, but not for fans? Elitists can be quite hypocritical.

I like these unpopular opinions you got there, quite a fascinating concept. However, the one unpopular opinion I'll disagree with is 70000 Tons Of Metal and I'll give you five reasons why.
Reason No. 1. 70000 Tons Of Metal is a great opportunity for you as a metalhead to escape from the real once a year for at least week.
Reason No. 2. When it comes to a regular outdoor field Heavy Metal festival, a few of the biggest problems is having to go through muddy grounds, getting lost in a gigantic crowd and having to cue up for a long time to use the bathroom. While on 70000 Tons Of Metal, there's plenty of bathrooms for everyone, no muddy grounds and you don't have to worry about getting lost.
Reason No. 3. While there are two, three, four, or possibly five metal bands that you are familiar with out of the other 55 that you don't know or heard of, it gives you a chance to explore and find out more exciting and possibly talented metal artists that you would be interested in.
Reason No. 4. 70000 Tons Of Metal is a fan-friendly scenario that gives you the opportunity to make friends with metalheads from all over the world, places you never knew where metal is mentioned. Plus, you get to hang out with the metal musicians and learn great things from them that might inspire you to become a metal musician.
Reason No. 5. You are on vacation, this is your moment, this is a paradise and most important of all, you are a pure metalhead who's looking for escape, a chance to live a little, to build great friendships and build memories. On 70000 Tons Of Metal, anything is possible.
Anyway, those are my opinions and reasons. You can disagree with me if you want and that's absolutely fine with me. Plus, I've always wanted to go to 70000 Tons Of Metal and it's been my dream before the Covid-19 nightmare struck. I hope you're cool with that Black Metal Werewolf, nevertheless I respect you as a metalhead and as a brother. And I'll always be staying BRUTAL. 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻🎸🎱♠️🥃🔌🥁⛓️🏖️🏝️🛳️🎟️💵🍻

I ENJOYED VIDEO THIS VERY MUCH, AND I HAVE MY OWN 'UNPOPULAR OPINION'
The one thing that I do not like about the metal scene is that most metal heads, and the public at large, believe that people who like metal consume drugs and alcohol. I have never consumed any kind of drugs ever in my whole life and I used to drink (I have not had a drink in over 15 years), but I have distanced myself somewhat from the scene, because it is greatly 'expected' even by other metal heads to consume drugs and alcohol whenever we would go to a pub (yes, you can go to a pub for the music and not necessarily to consume alcohol or to get stoned), club, concert or even when just listening to some music at someone's house. Most people simply assume that every metal head is exactly that, a junkie or a drunk. Many people actually assume that you could only enjoy this kind of music, only if you consume some substance. I resent this, all of this is greatly wrong, I have been listening to metal since I was 11 years old, and I am 51 now. I am into a bit of everything from Iron Maiden to Vital Remains, and I have been to an endless number of concerts, and I have never needed any psychotropic substance of any sort to enjoy this great music. I wish this stereotype would disappear.
