    I imagine a lot of people with self-trust issues probably learned it from someone else growing up. When you get treated as if everything you do is wrong and you can't make decisions on your own for a long time, you come to believe it's the truth, when the truth is the person telling you those things was likely either using it to manipulate and control you or was projecting their own insecurities onto you.

      I agree with you. I relate to everything that's on the video. I have been told I'm not good enough and constantly compared to others for a very long time by my parents. They make me feel like my opinions and decisions don't matter and they say they know what's best for me. I trusted them more than myself. I'm still struggling to make choices and decide on my own even though I'm 22, and if I don't ask for their opinions, they constantly belittle me and make a big scene and make me blame myself for smallest of things. I'm tired of this. I'm working hard on making a lot of changes in me through therapy. I know I still have a long way to go. I'll continue to trust myself whatever the situation is.

Glad I don't have to deal with her right now, I don't talk to her at all unless I need something and I guess our grandma's is the best place for our situation right now until college. We don't know anybody and this place is practically the hood but I do like not having to worry about my cousin doing something. That stress just ruined everything back then. At least now I have a temporary job at a clothing store and I like the people I work with alot more than I did working fast food in my cousin's house. Work is more fun here, probably also has to do with not as much stress. It sucks knowing how I easily trust other people and but not myself. And I always end up regretting my decisions and then question whether it's right to regret it. It's just a mess. But the good thing is I am willing to work on it. I want a better life, and I'll start by regaining my trust, back to myself.

    I struggle with this a lot. I'm getting a lot better, and learning to live in the moment has helped tremendously! I found it really really hard not to take everything so seriously, and it's hard to learn that mistakes just don't matter in the grand scheme. The video was right it takes a lot of work and it can be pretty slow going, it does help to learn to trust what others say when they give you complaints otherwise you only have yourself to make it through this, it's a lot easier when you have others to help!
    My prayers to everyone having troubles with this! I know how rough it can be, thankfully there is a solution and it's not easy or fast, so don't worry if you struggle. (I've been struggling with it for 7 to 8 years. And to be honest I did't start getting a grip on it till I met someone who really helped me about 3 years ago. It's a tough battle.)

    This video felt like the video embodiment of a sub tweet lol. I’ve struggled with trusting myself my whole life and I finally started working on it in an effective direction a few months ago after making some decisions that made my confidence in myself even weaker. Moving out of my abusive household has definitely helped. Living on my own has helped give me a greater perspective on my life and time to recognize that many things I was told was my fault in my youth wasn’t or wasn’t worth hating myself as long as I grew from it. It’s still something I’m constantly working on but it gets better every day.

    It’s definitely been an ongoing issue for me even though there are results of good decisions I’ve made. But being this way constantly has me in a limbo of making new decisions when necessary.
    Sometimes I’ll ask for the opinions of others doubting my own conclusion and then still not take their opinion but then straddle with their opinion and my own. It can be quite frustrating.
    I do love these psych2go videos. They have really helped me to identify things I need to work on.. they bring awareness or rather provide helpful tips to overcome. Every single one of these things hits way too close to home, I grew up with these sorts of messages drilled into my head and I was constantly shut down for little things. Now multiple therapists have said my worst issue is my self confidence. My lack of self worth has even almost ended my current relationship on multiple occasions (thankfully I've gotten much better at containing it).

  • @AlyGlows
    @AlyGlows 3 года назад

    This is exactly what my therapist is working with me on lately. Though its more focused on self compassion. Its so bad that when I have to try to be nice to myself I get scared, upset, then usually disassociate or cry. It feels like I hate myself but at the same time I really don't. There are some things I do like about myself but then I get overly critical and have to balance out the good with bad. I really hope I can move past this someday.

    Going to therapy, using a journal and practicing positive self-talk have been crucial for my journey towards building more trust and love within myself. I remember a point in time where I just hated myself, didn't think I was good enough or worthy of much of anything because the only voices I could hear in my head were negative. At that point in my life, I was unemployed, severely depressed, extremely lonely and isolated. I had just been rejected from my second job because my boss then thought I wasn't fit for the job, and looking back now, I realize that it really wasn't the best fit for me. All of this to say that I'm in a healthier position now after putting in the work continously over the years, but of course, I still have my off days sometimes. It's all about being able to take care of yourself in a way that's more gentle and compassionate 💖
