I use a cupcake plastic container with a lid from the local grocery store, Publix in Florida. Fill with top soil and add seeds and some water. Close lid and place the container on your cable TV box for heat. Works great for one or two containers. I swap them every 24 hrs. More volume of seeds will require a heat mat. :-)
Great and informative video as always Christian, thank you so much! As you probably know by now I'm a rookie palm grower/ enthousiast from The Netherlands (Holland). After watching this video yesterday, I checked all my containers and zip-lock bags with seeds and I can proudly announce that 5 of my Copernicia Alba seeds have germinated! (bah-dum-tsssh). Funny, it was like you sensed a couple of my Copernicia's had germinated and had this video out "Hi, Christian here, sorry having a cold, *ahem* and pain in my jaw..wisdom tooth, *ahem* now on the other side? So a short video? Edd?, your Alba's have germinated, perfect time to pot 'm up...Now!. If you're new to the channel go ahead and subscribe, and if you enjoyed the video give it a thumbs up.." lol So I potted them up, thanks Chris. Other palm seeds I'm trying to germinate/grow this season are (germinating): Sabal Causiarum, Sabal Mexicana, Washingtonia Filibusta, Chamaerops humilis, Phoenix Dactylifera.Other species I'm growing: Butia capitata, Washingtonia robusta, Trachycarpus fortunei sp.(ukhrulensis, Nainital, Winsan, Nova, Waggy), Livistona decora, Brahea edulis, Syagrus romanzoffiana sp. 'Santa Catarina', Phoenix Canariensis. I also grow banana species like Musa basjoo, veluntina, Yunnanensis, Ensete ventricosum and sp. Maurelli and Ensete Superbum. So, here I am in the Netherlands at 52°56′N 4°45′E growing palms and banana''s. (Oh crap)..uh..yes, we've been fighting the sea for centuries and become masters of Hydrology & Water Management!" I'm not bragging about but New Orleans turned to Netherlands for help in dealing with floods after hurricane Katrina (2005). In 2019 we are still helping the U.S. of A. out (and loads of other countries), I'm just saying.Google it. Anyhooo Christian (and girlfriend at the background) I want to thank you for taking the time and effort for making these informative video's. Your one of a kind, and the best out there, here on RUclips! I'm just saying ;-) P.S. Saved the best for last. Time for my "Daily dose of Palm Feind". I'm now going to watch your "Leucothrinax morrisii" vid you uploaded two days ago. Cheers Chris, enjoy your weekend, the both of you. Take care. Edd

Hello Christian, awesome channel! I’m just started getting into germinating exotic palms for myself and I was wondering if open air germinating is best for Bottle Palm seeds?? Thanks buddy. 🤙🏽😎
If South Florida have some short palms with red seeds. How is it that a tree will have 100s of seeds on the floor and none sprout naturally, yet 20 feet away somehow nature sprouted a seed with no other clear parent. Nature rewarding animal processing of the seed? Great work and patience clearly, but say I have a remote property with a 50 foot stretch and I want to create lush palm perimeter on the cheap . If clean a bag of seeds and bury them in similar organic material and forget about them I wonder what my success rate will be when I come back 3 months later. Any good time of year to try this?
Interested in growing palms from seeds. Getting long fiber orchid moss 8/29/20. Just received heat mat. Plan to use plastic freezer bags to include moss, seeds and Bismark palm seeds. Not sure if seeds are ok and when it’s ok to remove outer shell. Some sill green. If not do you leave in dry air or in water? Seashore palm seeds. Removed utter shell and had in water for over a month. No germination. Pindo palm seeds. Not sure if outer
What about Chamaedorea radicalis seeds? They were collided about 3 months ago. I plan on putting them in water for a few hours and pot them up and place them within the dome to keep the humidity level high. I will also be using a heating mat as week to keep them warm. My question is should I crack them open like you were?
shouldn't I disinfect the seeds and the media before starting the step one. Another question. Is it necessary to open up the plastic bag to let some air in once in a while?

I know this is a stupid question, but I wasnt successful in putting my tomatoe when they rooted so I wanted to ensure I do it right for my palms. When they root, do u just buried the whole thing in a pot of soil or do u buried just the seed part? Not sure if that makes sense.

Thank you for idea of keeping seeds warm on a fridge or a modem - i thought that i dont have any heat spots :)

Are you germinating with or without light?
Thanks for another great video :)

This was very helpful. Why would you use a zip lock bag instead of just planting them in small individual pots?
It's a lot less labor intensive.

I use the ziploc method for store bought coconuts in California. Pretty much infallible.
I have never heard of that, now I am going to have to try that and see what it looks like.
Does the palm give coconut
Once seed gets a root, do you plant root down in dirt or root up?

So long fiber orchid moss for germinating what do you use for potting?
I have another video on that.

It depends on the size of the seed. Bury small seeds and larger seeds can lie half buried.
What is the name of the heating mat?
Vivosun is the brand. They come in multiple sizes on Amazon. This one was about 50 with shipping and includes the thermostat.

Very fast, a few weeks if fresh. Up to 6 months if older.

Yes, it would work just fine, they only require about 25-30C heat though. Let us know how it goes!
