What's interesting is that when you play it on the guitar, it almost inadvertently feels like it's from Chrono Cross rather than Chrono Trigger. Incredible rendition, as always.
Agreed. I liked Chrono Cross, but as a sequel to Trigger it was kinda meh IMO. IIRC it was made a sequel rather than it's own game late in development or something along those lines
@@MrGoesBoom music was fantastic at least
I feel the same way. I guess our brains just associate acoustic guitar with Cross.
@@MrGoesBoom it always bummed me out that Chrono Cross just didn't quite hit that same itch chrono trigger accomplished. That sense of wonder I guess or maybe the smaller but more memorable cast
Sometimes I get weary of hearing familiar themes over and over... but this is a cover done right. Giving new life to a timeless, well accepted classic. Thank you for sharing, this takes me back to a place somewhere beyond time.
One of the most interesting things I discovered in CT music were the thematic similarities between Schala's and Magus' themes. Mitsuda was a genius 😁 Great cover. Loved it!
is* a genius :)
never realized after all this time 😵
This is the best cover of this song online. Now I need a six string bass version of this.
I didn't put it on loop, but I somehow pressed replay without noticing.
Of the many remixes and covers of this song over the last thirty years, I think this ranks high on the list. Beautiful.
This is so beautiful... please do Corridors of Time.
I remember just leaving the SNES running staring at the screen aimlessly wandering back and forth just to listen to the music. This is absolutely majestic! Thank you!
John's arrangements are great because they're so easy to play but they sound so good.
Thanks for doing my request! It sounds wonderful. I have such fond memories of the game and Schala's theme.
Take care John.
Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great weekend!
Man, the nylon tone fits this piece so well
Great arrangement love the palm mute dynamic
The grass is green, the fields and forests are strong. All is calm as the entire crew gathers by the fire in the night. This will be the end of their youth, and the beginning of their fate. Amazing.
So nostalgic and beautifully played! I just love hearing CT music played in so many different ways.
CT music is...
Wonderful.
Really brought the music junkies out of the woodwork on this one, eh? I think it's heckin' amazing, man. The rhythmic low tones, arpeggio, and melody, keeping it going the whole time. Mad skill, thanks for sharing!
I love this ost so hard ! Your cover was incredible !
Absolutely excellent! *LOVE* this cover!
Very nice cover and well played ! It was cool to listen thanks !
Great as always. What a gift you got with those chops
the quality of your performances always baffles me!! It sounds just so perfect!
Another beautiful one from you John
An incredibly clean version of this song. Great job.
Amazing as always! This piece is my bittersweet music when I felling grief and anguish! =)
Fantastic as always, bro. 👏🏼👏🏼
Sounds like a mix of Chrono Cross Fields of Time (if it was acoustic) along with Hope's Theme from XIII. This is just an amazing original arrangement! Beautiful
This brought a tear to my eye
Actually way harder than it looks, you're awesome man really nice arrangement
Had to give you that 1k like, saw 999 and I was like... you deserve this!
Very heartfelt playing w/ great accents and tone that's really expressive!
I bumped to this.
Very nicely done! It's a deceptively hard song to arrange on guitar but you make it look easy and sound so good. Keep it up, John =)
smooth mcgroove posted his rendition a couple of weeks ago and now your rendition.
fantastic!
Perfect arrangement
Thank you so much my friend
Chapeau, that´s so brillant!
I love schala! what a good cover
Watching your video game covers inspired me to start learning the acoustic guitar
This is awesome!
Ela passa um ar calmo, um pouco triste e bonito, exatamente como Schala era. Lindo cover também! :D
My favorite Chrono Trigger song!
Love this
You are awesome! ❤
What an interesting and creative cover of Schala's theme. I applaud you for taking some risks and treading some intriguing ground. Personally, I found some of the bass notes a bit too prominent / sharp, and the recording wasn't honed quite to the razor-edge of quality I've experienced in most of your other arrangements (there are a decent number of slightly muted notes, some of the hammer-on-pull-offs of notes are paced a little off, and the whole arrangement lacks a bit of that buttery flow I've come to associate with your playing).
But that doesn't diminish the accomplishment in my eyes. Making an arrangement do what you strove to in this one and marrying that with beautiful flow would be incredibly difficult. I can't play almost any song with nearly the virtuosity you bring to almost all of your pieces, but I can see how tough this one would be. Solid work.
I can only dream of being this good.
Amazing. Mesmerizing like the original.
After hearing this the search for Schala continues.
You’ve got the elusive zero dislikes! Keep it going John!
Beautiful arrangement! Impressive that you were able to keep that arpeggio vamp rolling as the melody and bass kick in, all on one guitar.
{also it looks like your top is buckling a bit in the lower bout, which can be a precursor to the bridge lifting, and is a very expensive repair. I'm sure you already know, but for others who might see this, always maintain proper humidity while the instrument is in its case...}
Thanks! Yeah, this is a cheap guitar I've had for about 15 years and haven't taken care of too much. Arizona weather doesn't play haha
Greetings from Finlandia!
Ah yes, the most remixed tune of all time ( or used to be, I know it was a bit of a joke over on OC Remix back in the day. Still, nicely done. Thanks for uploading, really like all the stuff you've done
Wow. Been a long time since I've seem someone me tion OC Remix... love that place.
That was so excellently played. Have you already arranged a classic guitar version of Secret Of The Forest?
Thanks! I haven't yet but I love that track so much. I'll definitely give it a shot one day. I'm working on an arrangement of Corridors of Time at the moment.
@@JohnOethGuitar Cool! I'm planning to get the tabs from your Patreon of At The Bottom Of The Night. My girlfriend loved it, heheh.
👏
This was freaking spice.
❤
Schala!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably one of my favorite covers you've done. The choices made on how each portion of this piece is voiced and the musicality of it are next level.
He actually did it.
Loved this,❤👍could you possibly fo more Naruto instrumentals please?
❤❤❤❤❤
😍
😭💕💕✨✨
man that's a song for 'Kid' ;)
This theme though...
Thanks nice music
Thanks so much!!
Serious head banger here
