In UK we often use beer in batter when making fish n chips. My Nan and Grandad had a chippy, and Nan used either soda water or beer in the batter to coat fish. It makes a light, crispy batter, which is perfect for fish n chips
Common in the US to use beer batter. Around where I live, the bars/taverns sell food, chicken and fish are their top sellers. They use a beer batter. Onion rings are also beer-battered, and mushrooms are too. I've eaten beer-battered food my whole life, and that's been a few....lol
Nice video and presentation. I must say I have never heard of any cooks or chefs referring to baked goods as "tender"? I stopped at the mixing of ingredients in hopes that you would show an alternative method using self rising flour, eliminating the baking powder and salt. Lowering the sugar content a third would help to create a typical bread for those with diabetes or insulin sensitive systems, without sacrificing the recipe. If it tastes like a "Giant Biscuit Loaf", maybe it is? You might have other bread recipes that I have not yet discovered, so please do not takes this wrong. Biscuits and Bread vary in every culture. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you John! I love doing beer bread with herbs and cheese added and then baking it in a muffin tin. It's so perfect to then drop one little muffin sized serving into a soup bowl with some veggie and bean soup. Thank you for reminding us that the leftover beer from the holidays can turn into delicious bread!!
@@paulaentwistle5726 I tend to do cheddar mostly but have also done swiss. I'll usually do about a cup shredded and then a few teaspoons of basil and oregano or just rosemary. As long as the herbs go with the soup I'm happy!
Do you just have the one book? I was looking for your book that had more of the delicious everyday recipes like this one (can't wait to try). Question, hubby drinks light beer and not an IPA. Would that work as well?
Beer breads are always fun ... especially for those who never heard of them ... Great with chili and better than cornbread. A swirl of Boursin to the batter is yummy! Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family, and farm friends!
John- This bread is so simple but effective..I baked this bread, used your custard from you French toast recipe and your cream cheese frosting from your pumpkin cupcakes recipe to make this awesome stuffed French toast..love it!
Ooohhhh I love beer bread!! I made an apple one from the last kingdom a few months ago and it was delicious. This one looks very tasty! Minus ipa, those are disgusting. But I'll try the guiness, I used blue moon, I think. I love the blooper!! It's nice to see the human size.
Beer bread is delicious. I found it a little plain with the ordinary beer, so used a very strong dark beer in a second loaf (I know nothing about beer! Lol!) and it turned out great. The dark color of the beer did not stain the flour at all, and the loaf came out a lovely off-white, just like the original loaf. I love how all I needed was a bowl and a rubber spatula. Will now be my go-to beer bread. Look forward to adding other flavors to it. Thanks for the recipe!
I saw your book at barnes and noble!!! Congrats on the career success! So happy for you. I remember when you first announced you were doing RUclips full time.

Question regarding alcohol in food recipes. If you are an alcoholic and do not want to participate in alcohol at all.. The statement that the alcohol burns off is that true for an alcoholic? Have always wondered and you seem great at answering recipe facts.
Thanks Ruth, 22 years alcohol-free here, I have read that the alcohol burns off, but at the same time, the residual taste of the beer might lead some to ..
Easy to make and delicious. First we toasted and had with jelly, then we substituted biscuits with slices of bread and had it with gravy. Lastly we let the last slices sit out overnight and made french toast the following morning. It was all good!
Hi John, If you happen to see this, I am wondering about measuring flour. this was awesome!!
