Today we are exploring a former aviation center that lies in a ghost town. This is a small fraction of the town and I will be posting more in a few days :)
That's an MD80. The engines on the back are missing. At 12:55 that is the tiller. Its used to steer the plane while on the ground. 14:15 that is the avionics bay, jus the computers for the flight instrument's like you said. 13:00 that is the tail cone yes. made from aluminum and most likely removed to allow access to the APU. The APU is just a smaller jet engine that can power the plane when the main engines are off.
Wow....I'm from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and had no idea of this place! Thanks for sharing this great find in such a beautiful place, my home land.... Ps I now live in San Antonio' tx Much love ❤️ 🎉
The panel with all the buttons and switches, is probably where the flight engineer sat. With the planes today, there is no flight engineer, that is now handled by computers and warning lights/alarms and handles by the pilot/co-pilot now.
When older planes are retired, they are often parked at old airports like this because they take up so much room. Parts are sold off of them which is why it is missing parts. It will eventually be destroyed once there are no good parts left.
Gun vault inside the hangar. Damn can’t believe they let this place rot like this. Last time I was inside that base was in 2017 for the M915 drivers training they used to offer. That place is huge you should’ve explored the nuclear submarine ports at least.
An air frame and shell are made out of aluminum. I can't understand your fixation on graffiti. That plane is scrap and the houses you visit are going to be destroyed so it doesn't seem like it makes any difference.
