- How to remove the rear lights and change all the rear bulbs on the VW Polo MK5 model years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Bulbs may be different on the facelift after 2014.
Fog light: H21W
Brake light: P21W
Indicator: PY21W
Sidelight: W5W
Number plate lights: W5W
Hallelujah ! After much searching you are the only guy who has shown us how to do the job Properly, and what each bulbs function is. along with the correct bulb type/number required for replacement. Just the info I have been searching for as I have a Stop/Break light out. I believe this is a single filament bulb but will check the type/number wattage etc.
I noticed another video online where the lady put the light unit face down onto a concrete floor " Ouch!" Your the best. Well done.

I always wondered why there was only a reversing light on the nearside cluster, but not the offside.

After removing the fog light bulb and taking it to Halfords ,they gave me the wrong bulb replacement too .which then blew

I bought new bulbs for left side tail lamp but unfortunately it was not the bulbs issue, the problem was in the circuit board fog light and brake light and 1 unit of no. plate light is not working in my polo.
Any there any suggestion about it.
@@MrNobody-tz6cg check for corrosion on the contacts for the bulbs and the wiring connector going to the circuit board. I don't know of any common faults on these cars otherwise.

Thanks for this great video. I can’t believe I’m asking this but is the rear brake/tail light a double filament? I cannot get the taillight on…and have tried 2 different bulbs. Brake is fine….but I cannot illuminate the tail light. I have the same model as the Polo in the vid, 2011 Mk 5. Cheers.

Brilliant video this. My rear left light doesn't work and had a look, the only light that works from the rear left is the blinker light. Does that mean that all other bulbs burned out and need replacing if the blinker bulb is still working? (My light fault warning light is on because of this)
Could be a ground fault with multiple bulb failure, hope you got sorted!

I recognize this.
My other reverse light is out, and it’s not the bulb because I replaced it.
Strangely it coincides with intermittent 3rd brake light fault and rear wiper not working.
Any suggestions perhaps? Thank you.
Possibly an earth fault. Check the wiring going through the boot hinge.
@@IAMASPANNER Thanks! I thought about earth fault too, but not going to do anything right now, because it works most of the time.
I’m thinking it’s perhaps the rear light assembly that has the earth fault.
The rubber flexible boot containing the wiring to rear hatch door looks normal without leaks.
Thank you! Have you ever find leaks coming in from the tail lights? I found a pool of water under the spare wheel. So annoying! Any tips if you have encountered this problem before?
I haven’t encountered this problem. If you remove the rear lights it should be pretty evident if water has been leaking past the seals though.

Hello 👋, the light on the driver’s side is the fog light. There’s only 1 reverse light on this car. If the fog is broken it’s the exact same procedure to change the bulb.
When you say side light, is that the tail light that comes on when you’re headlights are on? My tail lights are gone so need to replace
Yes, by sidelights I mean the lights that come on regardless of whether the headlights are on, front and back.

Damn.. I couldn't get the mother off. I struggled to release the roadside edge of the assy, and didn't want to force and damage it. It was a bitter cold winter day. I watched video again, and noticed you briefly reaching for a plastic spudger/lever to depress the clip, Will try again on a warmer day. Guess We need to use a plastic lever to carefully prise up the road side edge, which has the clip.
It’s horrible trying to do anything in the cold! I hope you got sorted on a warmer day.
Mine just popped off as soon as the screw was fully removed.
