Yes...at first I thought I was doing something wrong as so many of my plants just started to not look as good and I panicked when some of my plants kept dropping leaves and getting bare thinking I had killed them....now I’m just trying to keep myself from over analyzing my plants and panicking and see if they bounce back in the spring.
Very nice and informative video. My daughter has turned me into a plant zealot. I have always loved them, but never took it to the next level. Now I have so many beautiful and diverse plants throughout my home. This was perfect!
Interesting. Makes sense. My livestock is very sensitive to the light change. Egg production and molting season for chickens are instantly changed by the sunlight change. Horses start growing winter coats when the sunlight changes even by 30 min a day. Of course house plants will be sensitive, but I didn’t think of it because i’m new to indoor plants. No one questions that in outdoor plants. Good info Betsy
I'm so glad I discovered your channel! Your quirky and nerdy personality makes me feel so happy. :3 I noticed my Alocasia Amazonica has lost a lot of leaves since I have bought it. I know I was guilty of over watering at first, I resolved that but then I thought I wasnt maintaining enough humidity, so I popped the fella in my brightly lit bathroom. I can't tell if I am not providing sufficient care requirements. But now I'm thinking it might lose its leaves during dormancy? What is your experience?
I'm glad you found my channel too! 😊 If temperatures drop below 60°F/15°C and stay that way a little too long, then Alocasia plants can indeed lose their leaves and go into dormancy. They're quite sensitive to temperature. If this has caused yours to lose its leaves, then it should grow back in the spring. Mine has not lost any leaves but my apartment is always 70°F/21°C or above. Otherwise, it could be overwatering, especially if the soil isn't full of something to keep it quick-draining like plenty of perlite. I hope this helps!
I have two plant tour videos from this past summer if you'd like to check those out (one of the plants in my kitchen and one of the plants in my living room). I'll definitely do another in a couple months, maybe when spring arrives! 🙂Thank you for watching. 💚
@@elizabethduecker5809 Yep! I water both my red and green prayer plants with Paris tap water. My green prayer plant is more sensitive than the red one--its leaves yellow if it's overwatered for example. But neither one has brown leaf tips from the water.
Enjoyed your video. I knew certain succulents went dormant but I know now certain houseplants do too. Thanks for the info and the new video. Happy holidays
My alocasia amazonica is fighting dormancy right now. It's only able to sustain 2 leaves on each growth. We will power through though. I always need those leaf close ups. Keep 'em coming 😍
So my question is if the plant goes into dormancy and loses all of its leaves and your left with an empty pot, would you depot it and then store it or just leave it in the pot with the same soil no watering?
I spotted your staghorn plant mounted at the background. Did you mount them with sphagnum moss? How often do you water them? Do you fertilise them too? I like your colathea @4:17.
Hi Mary! I have another video all about my staghorn ferns: ruclips.net/video/c0jY47bCZSk/видео.html I have not yet fertilized them but will probably give them some diluted orchid fertilizer come spring. They need watered about once a week, whenever the sphagnum moss becomes dry. Are you talking about the Caladium I'm holding, or the Calathea medallion behind me? Both are pretty in any case!

Hello! Thanks so much for the video! I have seen some of your previous ones on hoyas and appreciated them a well :) I bought 2 hoya carnosas at the end of this autumn ( I live in Europe). One has already been dormant but the other gave me 5 new leaves, and then lost 3 of them and even some tips of its vines dried :( This morning one of the old leaves turned yellow and fell off too! No new growth at all, but the rest of the plant looks fine tho..What could it be?! Please help!
My prayer plant went dormant all summer and started to grow at the beginning of winter, I also took some cuttings and put them in a pot :D Is this normal?
It depends. It could simply be that it was working on a root system during summer and only began putting out foliage when that was established, which happened to be early winter. If it's putting out growth now, then great!
My fiddle leaf fig has no more leaves. I still have a stem and am hopeful she'll come back. I paid too much money to throw her away, but I think she might be dead. 😣

Have you noticed any differences in your plants during winter?
Yes ! Is it OK to put Them in a spot with less light or I should let them near big windows ? :)

Your videos are fantastic! You make a very excellent point about dormancy. Plants can definitely tell whats happening around them. 👍👍

You saved my caladium. I was going to throw the dirt out of its pot. It shriveled not too long ago. It’s winter here

I didn't do anything with mine. It's still in the soil in its pot and it's dormant. It bloomed a couple months ago and it's gone back to sleep. 🤷♀️
