    I think standardizing the charge port location is just as important as the NACS standardization. With gas pumps having a longer hose is not an issue because it just means the fluid is pumped a littlle farther, but with high voltage cabling every extra inch counts so designers dont want the cable any longer than it has to be for resistance and heat control reasons. Consumers are left picking up the pieces when designers dont agree on simple things like this.

  • @anthonyc8499
    @anthonyc8499 6 месяцев назад +16

    Seems like the charging posts should be 12"-18" further forward, then it would be universally agnostic to the charge port location.

    • @ccibinel
      @ccibinel 6 месяцев назад +1

      Ya that should do it when factoring driving in or backing in. In general mounting the charger infront of the stall is a simpler universal fix.

    I would think that manufactures should put ports either driver rear (like Tesla) or front passanger. That way it's the "same" location by either pulling in or backing in.

      Or behind the license plate (Aptera). Seems to reach even with most v3. The only locations that really don't work are front left and rear right which unfortunately have been used.

    • @ntulsian
      @ntulsian 6 месяцев назад

      Yup, the port location also needs to be standardized for all cars fitted with new NACS ports. Otherwise it'll be chaos at the electricity pumping station 😮

      @@ntulsian NACS/J3400 is a standard but Tesla doesn't need to allow vehicles with poor locations on their charging network. They can use nacs with other quality networks like... 🦗 Want a good network - move the port.

      It should be driver rear like a normal gas car. Why manufacturers still try to put the charging port in driver front is bonkers to me. Makes no sense from a public charging sense and even less sense for home charging.

    Back in and use the other charger cable or don't park so far in... such an easy solution. The Tesla can also back in or not park so far in and it'll reach either... doesn't take that much brain power. Lol Also, Rivians aren't the only other EV. People can just use the other side chargers. They don't bill you based on the space you're in. They bill based on the charger you use.

    at 0:03 & 2:56 the first spot (1A) in the layout is shown and depicts how the layout works. 1A certainly has enough space to back into with Rivian and only occupy 1A which is the correct spot. The cord handle would stretch along the front bumper and be plugged in on the driver side. I believe that is why there is so much asphalt behind the white line and before the landscaping - allows deeper parking to allow cable to reach across to other side.

    That layout would work slightly better if you was towing. If your towing you can’t back in like you would need to do with a Cybertruck on a v4 charger that has that a central plug.
    Since no manufacturer has started putting the NACS port on their cars we don’t know if those ports would be closer to the rear driver side.

  • @aaronbounds1336
    @aaronbounds1336 6 месяцев назад

    This is so simple. The layout is fine. People will park how they have to park to charge their cars. I am sure Tesla has thought this through. Although it would be nice to have quite a lot more V4 charging stations going up. Furthermore, Tesla is woefully behind on their idea of using local solar canopies and local battery storage at supercharging locations.

    And charging stations should be placed where they usually are, but the cable should be able to reach the left edge of the parking stall (for vehicles that have drove in, with charging ports on driver side front) and right edge of the parking stall (for vehicles that backed in, with charging ports on driver side back).

You know the system thoroughly iterated and perfected to be able to accommodate every vehicle of every configuration over generations and decades... Then they completely failed to understand what everyone wanted and went halfway in such a way as to make it objectively worse than just slapping them front and center at the end of the space. *facepalm* (With the center config at least every EV I know of should be able to use it without being out of the space.
