Just an amazing video, I really like the ones like this and the classic bike museum video. The only thing more interesting than bikes themselves is their history and more than anything, the people who ride them.
wonderful video. would love to see more like this. always nice to get even a small glimpse into another riders world. very cool shop with a brilliant trio. cheerio!
Super vid., TMF. I'm on Mini Mondo with Ben and Austin next month. Can't wait! Keep up the great work, more interviews with adventure riders would be great.
Thanx for the vid sir, world travel is my dream, number one on my bucket list. It is often said by many travellers that no one gets back and says they wished they had a bigger bike.
3 blokes having a chat. Another great vid Mr Flyer nicely filmed and well edited and may I say very informative. Good to see Austin doing his thing.........the last I saw him was at the Australian Adventure Film Fest some 4/5 year ago, always good value in my view.
Good evening Mr The Missenden Flyer. Wow, my goodness what an enjoyable video, thank you. You know I have dreamt of travelling around the world in a Defender for as long as I can remember. For now all I can say to Ben is best of luck you free spirit. Enjoy life young sir. Thanks again TMF. Brilliant.
I've not managed to create the opportunity yet. And not easy with job, wife, two young kids, mortgage and empty bank account!!! Although I promise I'll let you know when the time comes.
Now that was good TMF! I watched that on the telly and it was like watching 'one of the well known' presenters tv series. Well done. I'm thoroughly enjoying these new videos
Thank you Richard, I really enjoyed making that one, was a right hoot....looking forward to meeting the guys again at the Adventure Travel Film Festival next month....
TheMissendenFlyer yes I bet. It looked fun. What a comedian he is too 😂 Now you just need to team up with someone to restore a nice old bike and get up ton all sorts of shenanigans 👍😜 (they all seem to be called Pete/Pete mate
Fab vid again TMF, thanks. What a great guy Austin is, great attitude to life. I've read all his books, seen the vids and read Lois's books(Iran/Shiraz was the last one) How fantastic that Ben is going on this Adventure, he has the right approach and good experience and I'm sure he'll stay safe. And I think I'm hard core touring round Europe on my holidays, oh and not camping only nice b&bs which my wife books for me. Creature comforts, comfort zone or what.
That mr flyer was your best video to date. You sat munching the Crisps while the young lad who turn out to be worldly wise is telling his tales to the old farts. Such a relaxed atmos gave the vid warmth. Brilliant. More like this please.
I completely agree. Not only am I envious of the young man who is about to tour the world, but I wish I was able to enjoy tea with the group. Carry on old boy!
Fantastic video, can not understand how anyone gave this the thumbs down, agreed about the 250 being a good choice when he'll have to drag it out of mud and sand, good luck young fella.
Having watched both Mondo Enduro (at the ATFF) and Terra Circa and followed Austin's exploits with interest you could have knocked me down wif a fevver seeing TMF. Don't know if you are doing the 2017 ATFF but I hope to be there. I expect Austin will facepalm when he sees my CRF with a 1.75 Rotopax fuel container precisely where it shouldn't go ....
Really enjoyed that video, as a 50 something chap I'm not envious one bit, maybe if I was 30 years younger . . . Hope he has a great adventure and comes back in one piece !
Why do you need to be 30 years younger? Austin will tell you any normal person can get on a bike and do this if they so desire ("I don't have enough money", "I'm too old", "it's too dangerous" being typical stoppers....)
I completely know the feeling, but in reality these are just excuses, if you or I really wanted to do this, we could make it happen.....hats off to those that do....
Awesome stuff! Some great little snippets of info too. I'm actually doing a (much smaller scale) similar trip but in the opposite direction - riding a Ducati Scrambler I've bought in Saudi Arabia back to the UK. By chance I am hoping to arrive back in the UK by mid-August so I'll go check out that link and get in touch with them. 👍🏻
I rode a cb100 alone through the mountain ranges of eastern Australia where there is no one much. God knows how old it was. No preparation. It went everywhere and was more fun than bikes I have ridden that cost literally 100 times more. Riding along dirt roads with no challenge to the bike, looking at scenery stretching 50 kilometers with nothing around except superb mountains. I even took it one one rally where it outshone the silly pristine BMW riders on the dirt. Standing up on the pegs you could ride it as hard as you liked, fall off and just get up and keep going. People are paranoid now about using a motorcycle. This guy knows more about touring than the other two and 500 more like them put together.
around the world on a Honda CRF250L?, hell yeah it can make it! steph proved that. motor and chassis are so simple to work on and many honda dealers around the world. If only Honda wakes up and put that 300cc motor now!!!!
Give it time ;0) ....seriously I rather like ol' Henry (but I'm in a minority in our house)...and yes, Austin is a one-off for sure, but let's see where Ben goes, I predict a fascinating future for that lad!
Have to say I've noticed 3 immaculate overalls with not a drop of oil on them. Not wholly convinced a ton of research has been done. As long as he has a supply of BLTs it'll be fine
TheMissendenFlyer ive no idea who he is. i should check your links. did any work get finished. lol. hot today on the bike plus 30. crazy temp extremes here. do you have any summer base layer recommendations?
...actually I use the merino wool winter ones, counter intuitive but works at wicking the sweat away. Oh and Austin is a motorcycle adventure legend, Ben is soon to become one!
Well I did ask him expecting there to be live tracking via a website, facebook or twitter and I think he said he uses Instagram (which I don't).... I'm hoping to see him off at the adventure film festival in a couple of weeks time, I'll see if I can get some more deets then and post up a video with them and his departure....
...I did think about that, I found it fascinating although I didn't get all of it due battery concerns!! ....I still have the raw footage just in case :0)
I have met Austin a couple of times and he is great fun with an infectious personality - good look to the young un with his adventure. This vid was quite amusing - well done. You had some lettuce hanging out of your mouth for quite a while though which was more off putting than the thrusting :)
Great article in Motorcycle Sport and Leisure (p88) this month on, 9 times around the world, Nick Sanders advice to those planning a world tour. Might be of interest to your young friend?
This is one of the funniest world traveler interviews I have seen, especially considering his adventures in iran and with the pakistan presidents family ( a futute tmf interview, well worth seeing). One comes away thinking omg hes going to die, only to find out he does a better job of it than you could imagine.
Yes he is a top guy, thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and Ben, people who really know what life is all about rather than those of us who just think we do....great chaps (and I understand you can buy those overalls from AustinVince.com! - would suit you David!)....
Must be lovely to have rich folks to send you packing off round the world on a motorcycle in your teens. I remember in my late teens having to save hard for almost four years to even buy my first secondhand motorcycle and that was as an apprentice at Rolls Royce, one of the higher paid apprenticeships in my area at that time. Please don’t try to tell me he ain’t got a gold spoon in his arse, I couldn’t afford to go bloody Blackpool for a weekend at 17yrs old, let alone tour South America on a motorbike for months! Good luck to little Lord Fauntleroy tho, I’m sure he’ll have lots of stories to tell the family about his time with the ordinary people.
I’m sure it would be but that’s not the case with Ben who worked 2 jobs for something like 14 hours a day for two years to save up enough to embark on the trip. Ben is the real deal, more power to his elbow I say - an inspirational type with an infectious personality. Best of luck to him....
Chris 2008 FZ6 I use to work in A&E retired 4 years ago. Can't say I noticed the smell of burnt flesh only the smell of shit where they shit their trousers. One chap some years chopped his thumb three fingers and half of his pinky off and a staff nurse who was a right comic she said look on the bright side they ain't going to ask you to go and get a round of drinks in.
hide the UK passport and travel on the Irish one. I can't think of anywhere the irish passport would be an issue but could certainly see the UK passport being discovered in iran as an issue when the visa was got under the irish one
+Buzz Shiteyear I know very little about the practicalities of having hair so can't answer that one....and the Apache was parked in the High Street, with stealth mode activated...
1 am sure Ben will achieve his aims but it is questionable given he is not using one piece of touratech equipment. Just ask Austin he will agree (ha ha ) Another good one TMF Ted
I think it would be extremely difficult to ride a motorcycle without fingers, let me know how you get on. One advantage they wouldn't get cold in winter.
Not the first to mention that, we take the point (in fact we took bets on how long it would take for someone to mention it). As a point of fact, we did all SURVIVE!
TheMissendenFlyer unfortunately I knew someone who didn't SURVIVE. The disc broke, hit a rib and punctured his heart, he was dead before he hit the floor .He left a wife and two very young children. These are very dangerous machines if used incorrectly.
Nokian, the Finnish maker that only does winter tyre, has a plant in russia, and i got russian made tyre! Plus i was going to say i also has russian made T-shirt... but they are military shirt... so it count as a military item!!! ;-)
Exactly - I'd argue the 250 is the ideal bike to do a RTW trip on.....I think Charley and Ewan have set an expectation that you have to go large for this stuff, I have a CRF and a GS...I know which I'd rather lug across a swamp/river/desert/ice field (you get the idea)....
Nick Rijke I would disagree. A rare, essentially custom shop motorcycle just seems like a bad idea for around the world. Super cool concept (Cough cough Honda CRF450 rally! Please!) just not enough parts support out there. I also wouldn't want to hassle with a discontinued engine. I believe the whole bike has been discontinued now. Personally I would choose something with a steel frame too. Not if but, when you have a frame crack or damaged it's going to be much easier to find someone to weld steel than aluminum.
Sterling stuff. I wish Ben all the luck in the world and a safe trip.
Ditto!
Just an amazing video, I really like the ones like this and the classic bike museum video. The only thing more interesting than bikes themselves is their history and more than anything, the people who ride them.
+Shmaa Garage 100% agree (about the people, not my video making skills!)....
wonderful video. would love to see more like this. always nice to get even a small glimpse into another riders world. very cool shop with a brilliant trio. cheerio!
+Jerry Mullins Thank you For your kind words Jerry, much appreciated, all the best - TMF
Super vid., TMF. I'm on Mini Mondo with Ben and Austin next month. Can't wait! Keep up the great work, more interviews with adventure riders would be great.
You'll have a fabulous time Paul, enjoy and let me know how it goes?
Thanx for the vid sir, world travel is my dream, number one on my bucket list.
It is often said by many travellers that no one gets back and says they wished they had a bigger bike.
Indeed! ...I've also never heard a RTW traveller say they wished they'd never done it...
Considering he's off RTW I'm left a little concerned at how long it took him to get into that Waitrose sandwich. :)
:0)
3 blokes having a chat. Another great vid Mr Flyer nicely filmed and well edited and may I say very informative. Good to see Austin doing his thing.........the last I saw him was at the Australian Adventure Film Fest some 4/5 year ago, always good value in my view.
Thank you Joseph, yes that Austin Vince gets about doesn't he!
Brilliant.
Thanks Majid - if it's your dream, what's stopping you?
I've not managed to create the opportunity yet. And not easy with job, wife, two young kids, mortgage and empty bank account!!! Although I promise I'll let you know when the time comes.
Absolute hoot of a video. Quite the characters there!! Great stuff.
+Scott Peterson Thank you Scott....always good to know you're out there!
Good to see the motorcycle bringing together the generations. You better watch out this type of travelling long distance stuff may be contagious.
I know, that's what I'm afraid of...my mind is already wandering....
Me too 🌎
Amazing video, really good! Really enjoyed it and I'd love to see more of Austin's CRF, that looked cool!!
Cheers!
Austin is an absolute legend.
100% agreed...one of a kind...
What a comedian he is too 😂
Now you just need to team up with someone to restore a nice old bike and get up ton all sorts of shenanigans 👍😜 (they all seem to be called Pete/Pete mate
Fab vid again TMF, thanks. What a great guy Austin is, great attitude to life. And I think I'm hard core touring round Europe on my holidays, oh and not camping only nice b&bs which my wife books for me. Creature comforts, comfort zone or what.
I'm with you on that Mike! Thanks for watching.....TMF
Really enjoyed watching this video, Austin is hilarious: "drink tea, scratch balls...not each others" hahaha!
Indeed.....
oh, the stories! Mr Flyer, get him in for a live all day Q&A session. :-)
You should consider a nice long interview with Austin and Lois - interesting couple and fabulous inspiring adventures.
Yes indeed - don't think that hasn't crossed my mind!
That mr flyer was your best video to date. You sat munching the Crisps while the young lad who turn out to be worldly wise is telling his tales to the old farts. Such a relaxed atmos gave the vid warmth. Brilliant. More like this please.
Thank you GG - glad it worked out OK, really enjoyed making this one...
Grumpy Garry second that 👍
I completely agree. Not only am I envious of the young man who is about to tour the world, but I wish I was able to enjoy tea with the group. Carry on old boy!
I agree to that
took the words out of my mouth, i've nothing more to add to that - totally agree :-)
Met Austin and Lois a few years ago after my son rode around the world on a V Strom, great people
Yep - one of a kind....OK two of a kind....
Another great vid. I'm actually booked on the mini mondo project with Austin for September. Should be fun
You'll have a fabulous time (amigo...)...enjoy!
...very fun, thanks for sharing!
Cheers :0)
Brilliant video. Thanks all 3 of you
+john N Thank you for watching!
Fantastic video, can not understand how anyone gave this the thumbs down, agreed about the 250 being a good choice when he'll have to drag it out of mud and sand, good luck young fella.
100% agree....
Thank you so much for this fun educated inspirational intertainment. It's really motivating! :-)
Great stuff Brian - that was my intention!
if i was ever to go adventuring Id want a bike light enough to.push ten miles crf=perfect
I shall certainly try and be there on the 13th to see young Ben off Colin, if you see me around come and say hello!
That would be cool - I watch most of your videos.
"Most" of them!! Outrageous!!! ;0)
So good I've watched it twice. Thank you.
Good man :0)
Wished all the best on his journey and Honda is has worldwide network for parts he will be fine 👍🏻
That seems to be the general consensus....
I thought Austin was mad, this Ben lad is a full box of frogs!! All the best to him and to Austin's next endeavour.
Yes they are both nutters for sure, but the world is a better place having people like these in it....
Totally agree, Austin's a great bloke to be around and so knowledgeable.
TheMissendenFlyer . . . Ok fair enough, I'm just too unfit and can't go too long without my creature comforts. . . Sky tv, fish n chips etc 😀
I completely know the feeling, but in reality these are just excuses, if you or I really wanted to do this, we could make it happen.....hats off to those that do....
Amazing video, I love it!
Thank you GG, I enjoyed making it with these two characters....
Cracking vid, all the best Ben!
Cheers Cotti....
Love the mandatory jump suits! My three favourite people
Awesome stuff! 👍🏻
Brilliant - sounds like one hell of a trip - best of luck and maybe see you at the ATFF in August...
TheMissendenFlyer Thanks very much, fingers crossed it all goes to plan. 🤞🏻
Nice coveralls too. 😉
Man, that's two genuine English characters ;-) Gotta love that attitude and stylish overalls. You guys blend well :-)
Oh, I meant three good characters. Almost forgot the regisseur ;-)
No I think you were right the first time, I was well outclassed by these two legends.....
Agreed!
around the world on a Honda CRF250L?, hell yeah it can make it! steph proved that. motor and chassis are so simple to work on and many honda dealers around the world. If only Honda wakes up and put that 300cc motor now!!!!
Yes give me a CRF rather than a GS to go around the world any day! (...mainly 'cos I can pick up a CRF, GS, not so much...)
Triumph mug. Good man. :-)
Really enjoyed that. What a character Austin is. Why does that plank Henry Cole have a TV bike monopoly and you don't?
Give it time ;0) ....seriously I rather like ol' Henry (but I'm in a minority in our house)...and yes, Austin is a one-off for sure, but let's see where Ben goes, I predict a fascinating future for that lad!
That kind of trip sounds fantastic, just makes me wonder how I would afford it with such a long time away from working. Great video 👍
A perfect bike for the job...brilliant stuff 👌😀
Cheers Richard...
Most enjoyable watch 👍🏻
Thanks...I enjoyed making it!
Excellent...just in time for my iom tt trip...the rest of the world will have to wait for another day!
:0) ...enjoy...
i want to austin vince's anecdote about the discovery of oil and how it affects your ability to travel if you're british. he seems to be very funny.
It was a long one!
Was this filmed at packet boat lane? This is 5 minutes from my house. How cool! Great vid.
Cheers Laine, glad you liked it!
Have to say I've noticed 3 immaculate overalls with not a drop of oil on them. Not wholly convinced a ton of research has been done. As long as he has a supply of BLTs it'll be fine
With Austin Vince as your personal coach, what could possibly go wrong?
TheMissendenFlyer ive no idea who he is. i should check your links. did any work get finished. lol.
hot today on the bike plus 30. crazy temp extremes here. do you have any summer base layer recommendations?
...actually I use the merino wool winter ones, counter intuitive but works at wicking the sweat away. Oh and Austin is a motorcycle adventure legend, Ben is soon to become one!
Brilliant video TMF! Didn't see 'big tank' on the list, is Ben fitting one or 'can strapping' do you know? Cheers 👍
I did speak to him about that off camera, I think he's doing both!
you should check out Ed Pratt, he decided to uni Cycle the world at 18
Great video, any ideas how i can follow Ben on his trip? Cheers...
Cool video best of luck to them both
Ditto!
Please put Austins' history lesson up as a separate video ; )
...I did think about that, I found it fascinating although I didn't get all of it due battery concerns!! ....I still have the raw footage just in case :0)
I have met Austin a couple of times and he is great fun with an infectious personality - good look to the young un with his adventure. This vid was quite amusing - well done. You had some lettuce hanging out of your mouth for quite a while though which was more off putting than the thrusting :)
What! I just watched again and no sign of errant lettuce as far as my dodgy eyes can tell!!!!
Only joking - bet my comment increased your viewing figures lol :)
Well by one it did (me).....
Great article in Motorcycle Sport and Leisure (p88) this month on, 9 times around the world, Nick Sanders advice to those planning a world tour. Might be of interest to your young friend?
Thank you Rozzapp...
Does Ben have a social media or youtube of his adventures?
I asked the same - he's an Instagram man but I've yet to hook up with him myself...I'll see if I can find out and will report back...
Where do they sell those crazy outfits?! I’m a Honda guy and NEED ONE! Here in Canada
Check out Austin's website, I think he sells them there....
My wife's from Peru! Nice video. a bit different from your usual posts.
These two are a bit different to usual people! Glad you enjoyed it...
'Is it to do with potatoes?!' - Haha, brilliant TMF!
Cheers Mark....
When can we expect part 2 ?
+Alan McQuaker :0)
Hey TMF...the next Parky! Great entertainment.
Glad you liked it Gary, you can't go wrong with people like these though can you....
Where did you get your overall/ flight suit?
The RAF
Awesome 👍🏻 nice job
+Wayne Mitchelson Thanks Wayne....
This is one of the funniest world traveler interviews I have seen, especially considering his adventures in iran and with the pakistan presidents family ( a futute tmf interview, well worth seeing). One comes away thinking omg hes going to die, only to find out he does a better job of it than you could imagine.
I must confess..... I snapped the frying pan handle off! But I did manage to bodge it back on.
:0)
Best laugh I've had in ages
TheMissendenFlyer are you going to do a mini mondo on your CRF?
I love Austin Vince - he's madder than a bag of frogs :)
Agreed - and that is an excellent quality.....
great trip 😉
nice video
Cheers Tom...
TheMissendenFlyer
forgot that 🤣
Forgot what?
Wow, major coup, Austin is a legend and a bit of a hero of mine. Does overalls rather well too eh :)
Yes he is a top guy, thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and Ben, people who really know what life is all about rather than those of us who just think we do....great chaps (and I understand you can buy those overalls from AustinVince.com! - would suit you David!)....
Hi
Whatever happened to Ben ??
Best of luck to him....
great video 👌
Thank you Nomad....
after watching this video i learned most of the camping gear is already in your house
USSR made a lot of stuff (non military) clothes, washing machines, fridges, toys, cars, tv etc.
Nice one TMF
+OldManTriple Cheers matey! ....and great to hear from you again! Hope you're well down there??? Still on the Yamaha??
Chris 2008 FZ6 I use to work in A&E retired 4 years ago. Can't say I noticed the smell of burnt flesh only the smell of shit where they shit their trousers. One chap some years chopped his thumb three fingers and half of his pinky off and a staff nurse who was a right comic she said look on the bright side they ain't going to ask you to go and get a round of drinks in.
The Russians do make the ural, the beamer copy with a sidecar (my dream machine) but thinking about it,it is probably classed as a weapon
...well remembered...better late than never ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer your have to forgive me im still playing catchup, and there is a lot to catch-up with
Ha ha ,, it suits you mate not having much hair ,, is look bad as I have a thin face. Cheers Shane
+shaneweightman You saying I have a fat face? ;0)
Austin has become Gerald.
How do you mean??
If he visits Georgia I will be happy to buy him a good Georgian dinner ;)
Yeah he needs fattening up with some grits!
Looks like Ben might have to get his finger out, 23 year old Kane Avelano has just done it on a Bonneville
Crikey - as you say, time is a wasting if that record is to go!!! Well spotted....
hide the UK passport and travel on the Irish one. I can't think of anywhere the irish passport would be an issue but could certainly see the UK passport being discovered in iran as an issue when the visa was got under the irish one
Yeah good point....
Some hairstyle the young chaps got,, looks like a spring onion
Yeah, he knows it has to go......(I'm rather jealous)....
Thank for shearing, It looked like you you enjoyed it yourself.
I did indeed, a cracking couple of chaps to share an afternoon with in the sunshine...
The reason the Irish are allowed in everywhere is because we're sound
What sorts of sandwiches were they?
That's the sort of advice I'm after for my daily lunchtime quandary!
BLT, Cheese and Ham and Chicken and Bacon.....Top quality fayre!
No vegans were harmed in the making of this video
I'm curious... How does Ben get a helmet on safely with a dog-turd on his head? Oh, and where did you park the Apache?
+Buzz Shiteyear I know very little about the practicalities of having hair so can't answer that one....and the Apache was parked in the High Street, with stealth mode activated...
Haha! Real man lunch. Crisps and sarnies from M&S ? .
Not that posh - Tesco I think.... :0)
Don't do the thrusting haha quality.
Well I found it a little distasteful didn't you?
Yes
It was yes.............amusing though.
more than your equipment, i want to know what you were eating there.....lol
A Tesco BLT and a bag of S&V - sound OK to you? :0)
Elvis Costello of travel.
:0)
dat lunch....
Rock and roll!
1 am sure Ben will achieve his aims but it is questionable given he is not using one piece of touratech equipment. Just ask Austin he will agree (ha ha )
Another good one TMF Ted
:0) I think Ben is a lot more resourceful than his waif like build suggests!
Wtf I thought I mumbled on and on good thing I wasn't their you would run a mile.
You guys look like the fighter pilots! (Ha!)
+E. Simons :0)
TMF - what is going on here?😏👍
Where? On the thumbnail you mean or in the video?
TheMissendenFlyer in the video! Just lunacy...
Oh dear no guard on the angle grinder "Nasty".
We all wondered how long it would be until the H&S police chirped in! :0) Well done, you were the first....
John Woodruff old school🤗
:0)
I think it would be extremely difficult to ride a motorcycle without fingers, let me know how you get on. One advantage they wouldn't get cold in winter.
Fair point...
Fuck!!! That grinder at the start.. I just lost 28% of my hearing!
DON'T DO THE THRUSTING..HAHA!!..(seriously, don't do the thrusting)
+Jamrockcrowned85 :0)
DON'T USE AN AN ANGLE GRINDER WITHOUT A GUARD .IT WILL KILL YOU .
Not the first to mention that, we take the point (in fact we took bets on how long it would take for someone to mention it). As a point of fact, we did all SURVIVE!
TheMissendenFlyer
unfortunately I knew someone who didn't SURVIVE. The disc broke, hit a rib and punctured his heart, he was dead before he hit the floor .He left a wife and two very young children. These are very dangerous machines if used incorrectly.
No ,, not saying you have a fat face ,, a more rounded face , not a scrawny wrinkley face like me
I'll take that :0)
I've got tyre made in russia!!!
Really? What make???
Nokian, the Finnish maker that only does winter tyre, has a plant in russia, and i got russian made tyre! Plus i was going to say i also has russian made T-shirt... but they are military shirt... so it count as a military item!!! ;-)
Wow so they gave up on mobile phones and now make tyres! ;0)
round the world on a 250? better him than me!
Have you heard of Steph Jeavons?? ...I assume not...
Or the kid riding a Honda 90 around the world. Cheers MissendenFlyer. Long may you ride.
I'll second the CCM GP450. Perfect true adventure machine. And it comes from Bolton (except the engine is BMW, from their Husqvarna days).
