I mean c’mon guys….Emory came home to a very unique situation. Roc Nation and his best friend being Jay Z. It’s much easier to change your life when you have those things working for you.
But you also have a lot more likely chance to fold under the pressure to be great and successful. You’d be surprised at how many people actually fear their own potential, especially when they feel the pressure to be as great as their opportunities. People fear failing in the eyes of greatness and opportunity. Sure he had a unique situation, but so did Dame Dash, Beanie Siegel, The Young Gunz, Oschino & Sparks, Peedi Crakk, Indy 500, Teairra Marie, Young Steff, Christion, Amil, B!nk, Duro, Foxy Brown, Get Low. All had the connection to Jay Z and Roc-A-Fella to capitalize on the association. Same with everyone connected to Diddy and Bad Boy. Sometimes the spotlight is too bright for some.
Dont forget he started a 10 yr bid when his man was just about to take off..His prior circumstances wasn’t a cake walk…That has to be factored into his current position…
Based on your statement Beanie Siegel’s career should be similar to Emory’s, he had those same things working for him. Da hustle and ambition is in you not on you
If you’re from New York City and you’re from GenX you should know that the suede Clyde Puma was a hip hop b-boy classic sneaker! It’s disheartening that so many people in these big positions on radio and television don’t have a deep sense of history about the culture. It was Pro Keds, Pumas, Adidas, Nike AF1 and then Jordans. If you were really getting money in the streets and depending where you’re from it became Fila, Ellesse, Diadora, New Balance 995 and 1300, Bally and Gucci. 💯
I thought I was the only one who felt that way, but NO can rock that puma tracksuit like Nip did 😂 he made it seem effortless. Feel like he really coulda took that company to new heights. Truly missed smh
Emory is the other side of the coin. With all the hate that Hov receive's. He still has a core base of friends that are doing very well for them selfs.

Morning! Thanks for sharing this conversation with Emory Jones, appreciate his transparency. He's a testimony on how hard work and persistence will pay off big time, kudos.
Two guys can walk in the same spot wearing the same exact color jacket but one has LV all over it and the other has RW (Rocawear) all over it and 90% of the people there will gravitate more to the guy with the LV instead of the guy wearing the RW. The illusion of a product being more exclusive than another is the driving factor. LV and RW or another brand can be manufactured in the same factory by the same people using the same material and even have the same price and LV will always get the nod simply because of the illusion it's a more exclusive brand than the other mentioned. IMO....
Hearing his story all I can think of is Paid in Full when Mitch was locked up and Ace was the big man. Jay put him on when he got out the same way Ace put Mitch on
Emory is a Legend from where I'm from but it just sucks for the people that know him ,and and where he grew up not reaching back showing love to those that that showed love. This Guy is from Cambridge, MD and never acknowledges that salute to his blessings but don't forget where you came from!!
Ya'll want him to come lift the entire hood out of poverty? The man gives back alot. Don't forget he lost everything and had to be put on fresh from jail by his best friend Hov, and now head of lifestyle at Roc Nation. It just felt different than being around him, vs the ordinary individual, where his wisdom fed me. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am, with the achievements I’ve earned if it wasn’t for his leadership, his voice and his investment/putting his money where his mouth is. #salute #emoryjones

The " this is who they/we are," commentary is really subjective; meaning based on his experiences. I proffer that the youth embracing under-culter (not sub-culture) is based on a consistent environment of no access to mainstream economy. Hip-hop culture is the legitimizing of creating an economy for Urban citizens. As it relates Dj Envy's question on brand trashing and the longevity of majore european brands is a continuation of everyone wanting to tap into dominant culture: we cannot be the color YT, but taking on the emblems of that culture shows an ascension into another economic strata. Hence the analogy of the rich(typically YT) wearing jeans torn sneakers, and driving Toyota's, while the less fortunate is dressed in and driving expensive brands: it's a sign-post of wealth attainment and a request to be accepted by the dominant culture. I hope as we move into this new era of Black/Urban love, we continue to uplift (purchase) brand made by those in the community.
I’m sorry but I have to respectfully disagree with Emery on Envy’s statement about why blacks disregard black fashion designers after 2-4 years. As a people and culture, Black Americans don’t value themselves and hold what we create in high regard. Like CTG stated, we believe that the white mans ice is colder. Some of those high end fashion brands make garbage but if it’s a high end brand name, we will rock it no problem. Another point, MCM was out and smoking hot back in 1987 and 1988. If a girl kept her MCM bag at 17 and now she’s a grandmother today in her fifties, she can give that bag to her granddaughter and she’ll be the shit! Same bag, 35 years later! If I take my old Karl Kani jacket and give it to my grandson today, he won’t get the love I got back in 1994. Unfortunately that’s the sad truth.🤷🏽♂️ Kani and Sean John in particular still make dope clothes. Real Talk! 💯
