"Never limit yourself to the perception of what others think you should be" LL Cool J. Deep!
Right
🙌
Let us remind you, Cool J said that “blacks and Latinos created hip hop”. LL cool J is a sellout, no respect for him, he’s a fraud..
What time?
Jealousy and hate is very strong in my city Baltimore Maryland especially when it comes to hustling money
It’s so dope how LL has given all the OGs equity in Rock The Bells, RESPECT!
Me too. He really looked out for them and he didn't have to. Man with a heart like his size!
~🦾🏆⚡
@@haddingtoniangcp2464that’s why rock the bells will continue to flourish for years to come
If only Diddy or Jay z did the same
Riiight!!! That's so fire!!
This is the type of breakfast club interview’s that made breakfast club what it is today we need more of this great interview!!!
The kind of interviews you would never get from Angie Martinez. 😐
@@adamneme4613yo yo yo. Less rumor and innuendo.
True, true. One of the best shows with LL
Absolutely!!!!! I enjoyed this!!!!
Word!
LL is the epitome of hip hop true freaking legend
LL is a living legend. He is a great host too, always dropping gems.
He’s one of the originators! Can’t put him in any category
He mad accidental racist… he literally gave away his spot in the game after writing that verse
His show with Greg Nice and ZTrip is so dope! SALUTE THE SAMPLES
Yes pure wisdom be yourself.
@@MegaVern1good to know he hosts his own show
😁👍
LL is the G.O.A.T when it comes to Rap Careers overall, period! He has stood the true test of time.... family!!! , rap career, acting career, business.... a true living legend...
LL’s ability to take every topic back to promoting the tour is impressive 🤣🤣
Facts. A+ marketing!
LL Cool J needs to publish a memoir. Would love to hear his story, struggles and achievements in life.
He did back in the 90’s. He definitely needs a new one though
@@ACE330Yes, it's a great read. I read it when I was younger.
He was the first emcee to do it !! I MAKE MY OWN RULES.
He had a dope book back in the 90's I still have it but he needs to do another one from then til now. It would be absolutely incredible to hear all that has happened and things he's gone through since then to get to now.
On A Real
"Sometimes to get what you want you got to climb over a barbwire fence with no shirt on"-LL COOL J #BARS

I smiled throughout damn near this entire interview! Sometimes you have to be willing to crawl over a bobbed wire fence with no shirt on to get what you want! -LLism
We gotta make LLisms a thing😅
@@garyjackson9690 YES!!!!
Both of these dudes should be in everybody’s top 10, but LL is the legends of legends!!!! Inspired an entire generation
Black Thought my number 2
@Rivalthedon you called it fam. LL my childhood fav, Thought my grown up fav.
Not only is he the goat, he owns his catalog, has ownership in DEF JAM, ownership in NCIS LA, ownership in Lip sync. To start at 16 years old and to see where he is now. It's hard to compare or compete with him. Mad respect Cool J!!!!! I've been a fan since Radio, I need a beat and Rock the Bells!!!
This is by far one the best interviews on the history we need bring LL back more often
LL is the one. The seed to the roots. No pun intended. 🐐
What a treat! LL being able to laugh at himself is so refreshing. They're still HITS! I hope I get to see their show.
This is a classic interview I love it 🙏🏽✊🏽
💯
One of the best interviews
LL should have easily been the first solo rap artist to get inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Uncle Zeke,LL is already in Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame regardless they know his contributions to hip hop culture
@@ltod2 I know, him and Jigga went in together, but I thought as much as I love Pac, LL probably should have gotten the honor.
@@UncleZekeabso fucking lutely fam, love Pac but LL had seniority
I totally agree.....LL was inducted wit Jay who didn't get known worldwide til 96 and LL was over a decade n the game at that point
LL Cool J is a GOAT!! LL is about a year older than me, but I think back to when I bought his 1st album (cassette tape). I never thought back then he would have become the legendary HipHop artist he is today. This man is very intelligent, business savvy, professional, and a great fighter (LOL)! Give this man the respect that he deserves- GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!
The foundation! I saw him live in 1989 when NWA opened for him
@@DealwiththeRealwow fam, walking with a panther era
LL Cool J is definitely The Goat. He has admiration for all that paved the way for him to be great. Love how he gave accolades to others with his selflessness. I could listen to him all day.
Uncle L is such a Living Legend. His live show in the mid 80s was the best, with the giant boombox and him coming out of the cassette slot and his DJ's in the speakers. Good that he is still rocking the bells. The Roots are my champions as well.
LL is a rare breed!! You DO NOT get to witness that level of experience and intellect too often in life. Then, he is 45:25 NOT selfish! I just love him for being him. This is one the best interviews I’ve ever seen on the Breakfast Club, hands down!
LL was just solidifying his GOATness! The Gem I took was the very definition I've been searching for and it was the BEST way I could describe myself. People always call me a nice guy and I'm a rather big dude. I'm 6'4, 280. The people that know me thinks this as well, but those who KNOW me, like the wifey...always say... he's NOT that nice so I'd be careful.
"I'm not a nice guy, I'm a good guy. There's a difference....I'm not in this to be nice, I'm in this to be good."
On GOD! That spoke to me. Especially when people try to take advantage and when I get upset...they act like I did THEM wrong. FOH!
Just ICONS up there man! Much love and respect to Black Thought and Quest...and I have ALWAYS seen LL as one of the GOATs... I'm 43 and from Texas, so this ain't no NY bias thing. Just keeping it a stack! 👊🏿💪🏿🔥🙏🏿🤘🏿 Can't wait for the album!
Exactly. Same. I say that too.
The Roots from out Philly.
The roots always get overlooked for a great hip hop group
True dat
"Me putting out love songs is the equivalent of walking through the projects with a neck full of gold chains " LL Cool J
Such a good interview. I could've listened to another hour. Love LL and The Roots!
CTG with the temperature check with LL to start it off “LL stands for Living Legend at this point” lmao He ain’t forget how Charla been clowning him
I remember that lol
LL said before he didn’t want to do the Breakfast Club because of how disrespectful Charlamagne is towards people who come on his show and he doesn’t play that game, they must’ve had a discussion before coming on to make sure CTG stays in check.
That was dark skinned Charla. Medium brown Charla is 97% respectful and insightful
Yeah I remember what he did to Post Malone and other white guests by starting off the conversation by asking “what have you contributed to Black Lives Matter”. Therapy has really helped him, even though he still often says and does ignorant shit.
I can tell. There was a VERY formal sense of respect from CTG for LL.
Yeah I still remember to this day. FISH FRY BATTER POCKETS GOT FATTER. LL wanted to box Charlamagne after that lol. I think before that too, Charlamagne clowned LL for the “Accidental Racist” song too.
Ah okay, makes sense. I was shocked to hear that this was his first appearance on the show.
Uncle L sittin there like: "Say sumtin wrong Ctg" 😤
😂😂😂
😂
Damn, I got a new respect for LL. This guy is a true boss. Respect, salute and pride for my generation
LL and The Roots are such timeless acts and solid representations of what Hip Hop is. Great interview !
LL still looks Good...
Respect to all the OG's in the building.
LL Cool J , made it thru , gansta rap , Eazy E , Dre and Snoop Dogg , and the young drill boys like NBA Young Boy, and still looking good . LL is restarting hiphop and taking back.
This was such a great interview. I may not have listened to all of the roots songs but there is no denying they are true icons . LL is just the GOAT no questions.
Great interview, but yes, LL Cool J do a documentary. Documentaries are constant reminders. Look at the Last Dance. There were people who had to be reminded of how great MJ was. LL let em know.
I wish all men had the confidence that LL Cool J appears to have. He's so centered and unbothered. I love it.
How you know all men don't have the same confidence LL Cool J has ??never assume or make assumptions 🤷
Any man who wears a hat 90% of the time isn't THAT confident now Lol.
@@battlerap314that's a silly question.
@@LilAlpo1I kinda see why you would say that, but I disagree with it. I might not like the corn on my toe, so I wear closed in shoes. 32:24 is a good place to start. You need to push pass it and still do what you need to do in this life. Also, 19:06 speaks volumes about him as a man. By the way, he does show his head on his some of his tv shows and some of his movies...
@@misslucky5474 OK. Thank you. Happy New Year
Just to give y'all more history on LL. His debut album drops the same year that Whitney Houston & Sting debut their solo projects Freddie Mercury drops Mr. Bad guy, Sade drops her second album, Madonna drops Material Girl & Crazy for You, Prince releases Around the world in a day & Take Me With You, Run DMC drop King of Rock, Starship drops the song We Built This City, Eddie Murphy Drops Party All the Time. So when you talk about what a pioneer is LL represents all of that.
LL is deeper than I knew
I love to see two men have a past “disagreement” and be humble enough to be transparent and vulnerable about it and come to an understanding about it
LL Cool J is always dropping jewels in his interviews. Never knew he did a whole album with 50 Cent. Too bad it never dropped.
If you’re a real LL fan, literally every interview he starts answering his questions with “You Know”!
Thank you Breakfast Club for having the Legend LL Cool J!!..It was such a Great conversation with The Roots and LL Cool J and Charlemagne the God and DJ Envy held their own…LL Cool J ism was right on Time!🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥👊🏽 ✌🏽🙌🏽✌🏽🙌🏽💎💎
Now I truly know why I love LL Cool J not just music and memories but the man is the realest!
LL is the man point blank period
You have to give LL his props in hip hop. He came out hard with the Rock the Bells jam, and then brought it with the first slow rap cut, I need Love. That changed the game right there. Heck, it was one of the first songs I played on the piano. In addition, not too many rappers can change with the times and he did that in his career. Props to LL.
The way that envy threw the ball to Charlemagne and they quarterbacked that question regarding Jay-Z was dope .. they like good cop ..better cop 🔥🔥🔥
Quest: "Wouldn't it be considered soft to rap about love songs?"
LL: "I write about what I wanna write about."
I like when people get to see how smart LL is... He's a brilliant dude
This interview is worth more than gold to me. Man I love this art form!
Loved this interview. Im definitely a fan of The Roots & LL Cool J 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I absolutely love the name “Black Thought.”
You can tell the tension is high within this interview between LL and CTG but it's great to finally see him on the show
I said the same thing ! But you know charla ain’t on nothing . He just made fun of the way LL raps 😂
Yea… it was a lil strained 😂😂
I went to at least 6 roots shows in 98-99. That things fall apart album is top 5 all time!!!!
Major facts!
Definitely dud and all their shows feel unique, one of a kind.
That was a dope Roots era....caught Erykah Badu, Common, Black Star, and Jill Scott with them often.
We need a hip hop award show like the rock n roll hall of fame
Jus don't invite any gen z artists
Black Thought is one of my favorite lyricists. I'll definitely attend the concert.
The thing that made LL a phenomenon and a part of the original Foundation I'm going to say is that he was one of the first solo male artist in hip-hop most other hip-hop artists were Crews and groups he was a single act and I think if we look at the history there weren't a lot of or no single acts in hip-hop
Very true
LL is a Legend !!! Roots is Legendary
This is the difference between hip hop God Tier level talkin vs these watered down artists today who all sound the same. This is an absolutely 🔥🔥🔥 interview of legends.

LL is a true legend. That concert was 🔥, one of the best I've ever attended. High energy from everyone. The Roots, Common ,MC Lyte, Ice T, Bone Thugs and LL all did their thing!
"They call me Big Elly"........💥
Everytime LL make a gesture with his head, hands and arms, you know exactly what he's saying with out him saying it lol!!!
I could listen to LL talk all day, seriously. Learning that Black Thought can do the thug thizzle in the kitchen makes me adore him even more. Quest, oh my… the way he thinks is simply art. Thoroughly enjoyed this interview.
Dope azz interview. Seemed like LL was closed off in the beginning and opened up big time!! Can’t wait to see this concert in MEMPHIS!!! #letstalkaboutit
I think he was hesitant because of some previous static with C Tha God a couple years ago
Yes sir! I’m going to the show in Memphis! Can’t wait!!!!! Been an LL Fan since childhood…LEGEND!!!!!
That’s a Capricorn thing we gotta feel the energy in the room first before we let our guard down
I'm looking at that show since they canc'd the N.O. show. Is that a good venue?
@@syckindahead yes it’s a nice venue
Just saw this guys last night and it has changed my life for ever. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
It's exciting to see the classic era of hip-hop reemerging, with artists returning to their roots. These iconic performers, from Nas and Wu-Tang to LL and The Roots, will surely put on an incredible show. I can't wait to see/hear them in action. #Top5

I grew up on LL! Legendary Icon!! Always humble always gracious and full of wisdom!
This was epic! The big Ellie line kept cracking me up! 😂😂😂😂

LL is the epitome of NON INSECURE✊🏾
LL Cool J is a living legend and I am glad that he's getting his flowers!!! I've been listening to the Roots, since their Organix album back in '93. My favorite album to this day is still Do You Want More - still in my Apple music listing!!! I remembered them coming to ATL back in the day with Bahamadia, Joi, Eryka, Jill, The Fugees, Common - it's still the best concert I've ever attended. Love these guys!!! This is what the culture was intended to be! We need more artists like them to carry on the mantle - great lyrical skills, poise, charisma, and intelligence.
I love that LL brought the pioneers in and gave equity. Actions speak louder than words. I'm sure that they will bring that tour worldwide. Hip-Hop should be Black-owned. I wished BC would've had young girl in here for this interview but I'm sure there will be more.
LL got an upcoming album.... executive produced by...Q-tip...👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🤯
One of the best and most respected interviews of all time. The truth about hip hop as a Renaissance. To be shared for the facts and not just blow past it. An incredible blast to the past and today. Amen Breakfast Club.
That's why you need black people from black culture to interview Hip Hop legends because they understand the roots of the culture, no pun intended, and not just the music. That's why white Hispanics can never understand the roots. They had an "out" culturally to the black ghetto experience.
What a fantastic interview!!! S/O to Roots & L.L.
Man...LL doing such a good job 🙏🏼
Crazy that it took LL this long to come up! Salute to the Queens legend
Charlemagne made some slightly disparaging comments concerning LL in the past, which is why this is his 1st time up there
I can't believe LL has never been in TBC. Glad he graced us with his presence 👏🏾💪🏾
Right bro I literally just said this I can't believe this is his first time that's crazy how long LL been out seems like forever.
It's because of C the God 😅😂
Ctg was clowning him a few years ago over a song LL was doing with Dre producing. LL got salty and challenged ctg to a boxing match😂

LL cool J is a hip hop legend
LL is a Hip Hop GOD
It would be nice for LL Cool J to create a bio similar to Straight Outta Compton showing the new generation of the come-up.
I love The Legendary Roots Crew so much ever since when I first heard, " I shall proceed and continue to rock the mic." Legendary Hip Hop at its finest and the GREAT Tariq Trotter will body your favorite rapper on any given day!
Tariq is the greatest lyricist to ever walk the earth, & that's quite the feat considering how many others arguably contend for the top spot. peeps can have their favs & preferences, but math added from every metric makes it indisputable. LL said "sometimes you miss a dunk", & Tariq looked like 'can't relate'.
Everything goes in cycles. It's fulfilling as hell to see so many of the OGs getting their due now. Dope to hear how LL is making sure the founders can eat. We're just beginning to see what longevity looks like in hip hop. It's healthy.
By the way Ll Made at least 8 quotes on this interview... Shout out to The Roots, super legendary
5 successful Black Men in one room this is inspiring. 💯
Real Hip Hop right here! LL made me want to rap...I was only in kindergarten in 1985...my first rhyme was...My name is Tony-D and I am so fine! When I walk down the street girls give me a dime! 😅 my rhymes progressed, but I never pursued it. Salute LL Cool J one of the GOATs if not the GOAT. Roots dopest hip-hop group.
Going to keep on saying, KEEP UP THE MUSIC INTERVIEWS - miss the old breakfast club
Listening to LL, you can hear that "Queens/Ima G" in him. He ain't talking like he's some "sweet lady's man." He's talking like a "G," owning what you, as a man, like and love, which is women. FACTS!!!
LL is in my top 5 EVER!!
Sometimes u gotta climb the Barbedwire fence with No Shirt on 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #LL Cool J
My big big LL on the breakfast club finally good stuff let’s support his new album 💿 every one
First time tearing up at a breakfast club interview, damn. "The strength is in doing what YOU want to do".
This interview has been my soundtrack of my drive from elementary school to elementary school across the Dallas Independent School District. I hit 8 schools today and it was beautiful for this 25plus year educator/45 year cellist to listen to these phenomenal artists who I absolutely adore talk about what makes them tick. I will be at the Dickies Arena in August! Oh! I will also be wearing my Commemorative Purple Royalty 50 Years of Hip Hop Timbs 💜
"I own my catalog " LL 👑🔥
“You ain’t a cop JayReed”😂😂😂😂😂
“YOU’RE A SELLOUT!!!”
😆🤣😆🤣
"Is my Hat Still Like a Shark's Fin!" LMAO!!! Beautifully stated!! I love this interview!! EPIC ICONIC!
LL is the God MC. There is no current hip hop culture without him setting the stage.
Yo, this whole interview was a history lesson. A favorite.
I don’t know why this is even a conversation in hip hop. No one has to rate bands in rock like this, or to say they’re relevant. Why can’t we just appreciate all of it? These guys are the Beatles, they are Led Zeppelin. It’s great to see these guys taking care of the ones that paved the way. If they are up for it they should tour like the Stones.
Word
LL shows how being a real GOAT means you are so secure in your ability that you can take criticism and recognize everyone misses at some point
So glad they covered that LL basically gave us the hip hip style that was prominent in the 90's and 00's. He also gave us the tracks for the ladies, even when people dismissed it. This is what people like Mel didn't do and clearly for recent performance still hasn't managed to grasp.
