WOw! I'm a jazz violinist and have often played the 2 tunes - Don't Get Around Much Anymore with I Let A Song Go Out of my Heart, but I have never heard Duke do that, though I knew he must have - but to hear him do it with Stephane!
    Amazing!

Many very interesting things here. Duke and Grappelli had recorded before together ("Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session", one of the best footnotes on each men's career- don't miss this!), even though none of the tunes on this video are on that album. Additionally, this must be one of the last footages of Ellington, who would pass only after a few months. And it celebrates a respectful and eventful meeting between of one of Jazz' greatest womanizers with a pioneer gay Jazz giant. Music brings people together.

      NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT....,
SORRY TO HEAR THAT ''IT DOESN'T WORK FOR ''YOU''
A VIOLIN IS A VIOLIN, IS A VIOLIN, AND CANNOT SOUND LIKE ANY THING BUT A VIOLIN! (IN THIS CASE A ''STRAD'')
THERE IS HARDLY ANY MUSIC LOVER., ESPECIALLY IN THIS CASE..,JAZZ!!! THAT WOULD NOT AGREE THAT
STEPHAN IS THE GREATEST JAZZ VIOLINIST THAT HAS WALKED THE FACE OF THIS EARTH. SMOOTH AS SILK.
MAN..., LOOK AT THE JOY ON THE DUKE'S FACE..,
HE IS NO LONGER WITH US BUT IF HE WAS AND READ YOUR OPINION HE WOULD JUST SMILE.
HE NEVER WENT AROUND BOASTING THAT HE IS THE ''GREATEST'' . ONLY CASIUS CLAY (MOHAMED ALI DID)
(in his mind he would simply say.., poor fella, pity him)
MY REASON FOR MAKING THIS COMMENT IS SIMPLY THAT I JUST CANNOT AGREE WITH YOU.
BY THE WAY.., I AM ALSO A MUSICIAN.., MY MAIN INSTRUMENT IS AN OVER 400 YEAR OLD ''MAGINI''
AS WELL ''ELECTRIC VIOLIN'' ONE 4 STRING, E/A/D/G AND
ONE 5 STRING (the lowest a C string.)
IT IS THE COMBINATION OF A VIOLIN AND A VIOLA
BUT WITH THE COMFORT OF BEING THE SIZE OF A VIOLIN.
I HAVE OFTEN PLAYED WITH SMALL GROUPS OF MUSICIAN FRIENDS OF MINE.., ALL EXCELLENT MUSICIANS.
MY AGE IS NOW 80 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS.., I STARTED AT THE ''RIPE'' AGE OF 7.., LATE BY TODAY'S STANDARD.
(EXAMPLE : RUSSIAN GENIUS: MAXIME VENGEROV
STARTED WHEN HE WAS ONLY ''FOUR''.
CHECK HIM OUT ON UTUBE ''PLAYING BY HEART'' 50 MINUTE DOCUMENTARY. HE IS FROM ANOTHER PLANET!
SO..., NOTHING PERSONAL.., BUT ''STEPHAN'' HAS LEFT BEHIND A GREAT HISTORY. (HE WAS ALSO PIANIST)
THERE ARE NOT TOO MANY MUSICIANS THAT CAN DO THAT.
ALSO JUST CHECK HIM OUT PLAYING A TANGO WITH
YEHUDI MENUHIN..., THE FIRST OF SEVERAL RECORDINGS
      THAT THEY DID TOGETHER.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.., GOOD HEALTH TO YOU ALWAYS!
      DMDV.

    • @daviddeverteuil8663
      @daviddeverteuil8663 3 года назад

YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW THIS.., BUT ''STRAD''
REFERS TO THE VIOLIN MAKER (ITALIANO)
SIGNORI ''ANTONIO STRADIVARI'' (1644 TO 1737)
      FROM A TOWN CALLED CREMONA.

    • @daviddeverteuil8663
      @daviddeverteuil8663 3 года назад

FORGOT TO SAY THAT ANTONIO ALSO MADE CELLOS (pronounced CHELLO) AND DOUBLE BASSES. APPARENTLY ALL ARE DOCUMENTED.
BIDDING PRICE AT AN AUCTION (very rare)
ON A STRAD VIOLIN STARTS AT TEN '''MILLION'''
      YUP!!!
