WOw! I'm a jazz violinist and have often played the 2 tunes - Don't Get Around Much Anymore with I Let A Song Go Out of my Heart, but I have never heard Duke do that, though I knew he must have - but to hear him do it with Stephane! Amazing!

Many very interesting things here. Duke and Grappelli had recorded before together ("Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session", one of the best footnotes on each men's career- don't miss this!), even though none of the tunes on this video are on that album. Additionally, this must be one of the last footages of Ellington, who would pass only after a few months. And it celebrates a respectful and eventful meeting between of one of Jazz' greatest womanizers with a pioneer gay Jazz giant. Music brings people together.
Stunning!!! Thanks so much for posting. What is the source for this? I've spent a life seeking out small group and solo Ellington and must confess never knew about this. Is there more? Thanks again
Quizá. Pero es una lástima que no lo acompañase el Art Tatum del piano. Admiro a Ellington, pero como acompañante me parece limitado ( al menos, en este vídeo ).
NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT...., SORRY TO HEAR THAT ''IT DOESN'T WORK FOR ''YOU'' A VIOLIN IS A VIOLIN, IS A VIOLIN, AND CANNOT SOUND LIKE ANY THING BUT A VIOLIN! (IN THIS CASE A ''STRAD'') THERE IS HARDLY ANY MUSIC LOVER., ESPECIALLY IN THIS CASE..,JAZZ!!! THAT WOULD NOT AGREE THAT STEPHAN IS THE GREATEST JAZZ VIOLINIST THAT HAS WALKED THE FACE OF THIS EARTH. SMOOTH AS SILK. MAN..., LOOK AT THE JOY ON THE DUKE'S FACE.., HE IS NO LONGER WITH US BUT IF HE WAS AND READ YOUR OPINION HE WOULD JUST SMILE. HE NEVER WENT AROUND BOASTING THAT HE IS THE ''GREATEST'' . ONLY CASIUS CLAY (MOHAMED ALI DID) (in his mind he would simply say.., poor fella, pity him) MY REASON FOR MAKING THIS COMMENT IS SIMPLY THAT I JUST CANNOT AGREE WITH YOU. Er spielt die Geige mit einer Leichtigkeit. Es ist ein Genuss ihm beim spielen zu zuhören.
Duke Ellington, a great musician and a great human being ,,,
Never knew they performed together. Incredible. Lucky I was to see Grappelli live at a small Village club in or around '77.
"Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session", check this, Man!
Gone to heaven with Duke and Steph.
Hope so
I love it! They are talented and incredible!!!
Zwei wohl der grandiosten Meister des Jazz
Increíble lo que hace Grappelli con el violín, me vuela la cabeza!!! Y el gran Duke qué ritmo que tiene y que transmite, cuánta maestría, por favor!!!
I love how they smile and point at each other at the end like :"Damn, you nailed it".It's fantastic xD

Oh ! Dieu merci pour le cadeau😔😢
¡Madre de Dios, qué capos, un placer!
¿"Capos"? No sabía que eran de la mafia.
So beautiful, what treasures these two.
So nice but also sad that Duke died just a year later.

People don't realize what a fantastic pianist Duke was...
Yes we do!
You can see how much people adore Duke, by the lack of comments about his hair in this video 😂
Unique chords
Utterly beyond GRAND MAESTRO, which is only 10,000 hours of practicing
Don't get around anymore
Heaven!!
I'm certain that these guys had their share of trouble and some how managed to be able to create this beautiful music
Economy of movement in both musicians.
They probably hadn't rehearsed. Just put two giants together and they'll cast their spell.
Wow.

Buen comentario. 😆
This doesn't work for me. Grappelli's violin is far too soprano for this.
congratulations for such an intelligent comment.
