My family calls these “Irish Potatoes.” We used to buy them from a local bakery for St. Patrick’s Day. They’d be little potato shapes rolled in cinnamon. It was always a treat I looked forward to each year!
Irish Potatoes and Potato Candy are two completely different candies. People confuse them two all the time, though, as they both have 'potato' in the name. But the name is where the similarities end.
I had never heard of this until My step mother in WV used to make this . Its really good and not as sweet as it might sound, but can be rich. Went great with my coffee!!! Thank you for sharing this.
WOW 😯 that’s pretty cool I had never heard of such a thing. And yes you are right almost skipped over video because it said potato candy lol. Glad I chose to watch it instead. Thanks, Sam
I've been looking for a recipe like this. My girls use to belong to a 4-H club where they made Easter eggs. The recipe had mashed potato flakes. When I was a young girl my mom made doughnuts with mashed potato and they were so delicious.

My mom also made sort of the same thing . But some she added PB to and some she would add coconut and then dip them in Dark chocolate. Thx for the remind. Looks delicious
My mother use to make this & I remember thinking, "What? Are you kidding me?" Then voila, so good!! I had the recipe out but never got to it. But maybe after seeing this, I'll do them😊 Thanks for all your videos!
I'm 70 years old and I remember my grandmother making these when I was growing up. The only problem with making these is as soon as you try one, you will eat another one and another one.....so make extra. I was going to surprise my daughter with a batch of these for Christmas but time got away from me.
I've been looking at this recipe for awhile. Haven't made it because it seems like the sugar would overwhelm the peanut butter flavor and you'd only taste sugar. Most of the recipes for this don't have any butter but yours has a whole stick of it. Are you using the butter to cut the sweet?
A neighbor of my Grams made this in the 60s and 70s. We luved it but is very sweet It was funny that only a small amt of potato actually is used. I made it for my kids. Less sweet.
I don't like potato. I have an aversion to mashed potato especially but I thought I'd try watching, I got to 40 seconds before I had to stop. I'm proud of myself today!
Sorry but you are definitely doing this wrong and making the job harder. My family has made potato candy for over 60 years and the way you're making it is so wrong. Study some of the hillbilly vids because they are spot on. Take notes from them and you'll see.
My grandma made this candy when I was growing up! It’s amazing 😊
Sooooo good! :)

You’re welcome! Enjoy! 😊

😋
My wife makes this from her grandmother’s recipe. Only it doesn’t have butter in it, just potato, powdered sugar, vanilla, and peanut butter.
There are lots of ways I’ve heard people do it. 😊
This is one of my favorite recipes!
I remember making these in 3rd grade as a fun class project. That was in the early 1970's 😀
That’s a pretty neat class project! 😊
I've got to try this, looks so delish
I hope you love it! 😍
No love for that stand mixer for a while now!! I only have a hand mixer so I appreciate the hand mixer use haha

I've made these growing up, Nutella or mint jelly were often subs for the peanut butter.
Those sound like great alternatives. I’ll have to try them some time.
Looks so good! I’m going to try it for sure! ❤
I hope you love it! 😊
Try without pb add peppermint, rolled into ball and flatten, dip in chocolate. Peppermint pattie

You are right, you definitely need extra. They are so good!

Sam, I had a friend's mom that used cocoa powder in the potato part....never got a chance to ask how she did it(maybe you could try it?)
That sounds good! I’ll have to try it next time I make this. 😊
what is the texture of these

It’s a classic for sure! 😊

Baby steps! 🤣
I bet if you put green food coloring and add some peppermint extract, you could make it into Christmas candy. The options are endless.....
Great idea! 😊😊
What potatoes should we use?
Russet are best :)
Sam happy. holidays.
Isn't that confectioners sugar? (10X)
Yes
Geez so easy and this vid makes it look like 100 steps and exact measurements(wayyyy too much sugar)😂
7 cups of sugar!!!!!! Insane!!!!
I know, candy, right!?
This recipe is literally a mind F*ck for me hahaha
So basically, the potato is just a binding agent?? :)
By the way, to follow up on my last comment, NO BUTTER IS USED!!!
