It's a specialized unit called a Self-Powered-Slot (SPS). It is used in a consist called a Slot Machine, with specialized gondolas and an excavator that can travel the length of the consist while performing MOW work over the side, along the rail line.
Self propelled slot machine. I have a video of two of them on the tracks When i saw the first one on the tracks it took me by surprise. Cool capture on that one.
Awesome video RTS. Loved the train mix and different locations. The Triple Crown Express looked to be longer today. I’m amazed that only one locomotive pulls that consist into Detroit. Thank you also for the great comments.
busy day on the Wabash! Great video and I have to admit "Danes pass" as it used to be called was my favorite location to watch trains. Tall Sycamore used to let us throw a tent up down by the east end of the siding and we'd camp all night and day there. Those were the days!
The GERX unit on the end is a MoW motor, not being powered as DPU. In tow for somewhere. It’s used for Slot car MoW equipment. The motor was probably a rebuilt EMD like a MP15 or GP38.
Plenty of fast moving trains today with a good variet of equipments and closing with a road railer really moving along. Nice to see the BNSF power and it sure was an Automax day. GREX Georgetown RR probably has a few of these built on the frame of a GP38 just like Loram and Speno have done. The easy way to remember the Georgetown equipment are the 15 cars with a conveyor belt climbing in between every one of them
Here's what you find if you search that ?? DPU. Grex 6008 road number Owner: Georgetown Rail Equipment Company Model: UNKNOWN UNKNOWN Built As: Builder Info (Unavailable ) It appears to have only 4 axles
Thank you for your input... On my new footage I'm filming I'll be keeping that in mind and I have a lot of single Camera video that I'm working on that is easy to keep count of the cars... Thank you so much for watching...

They must've ran out of normal engines and were like "screw it we'll use this"
@@wes1243 lol possibly - but probably just being shuttled around the system for m.o.w. work
It's not a DPU. It's just being towed.
That first train was an improperly built train! The mid train DPU’s had flammable hazmat cars right against engines with no cover.
@@Cam_4216 wow I didn’t notice that.
Check out special permit 20996
You don't need buffers for Mid train DPUs
You're allowed to have DP up against hazmat now. The FRA changed the rule a few years ago
There is a special permit about this. I have tried to post it but RUclips won't let me. I guess because it is five numbers. Who knows.

GREX 6008 is a modified GP38M. MOW equipment.
"Slot machine " and never knew they're essentially rebuilt GP38's

Odd Catch on the End of the Train. 🤔👍🙏
@@kens.3729 the funny thing is it came back through the next day going to Elkhart. Not sure where after that.
I love them articulated autoracks
Apparently CSX nicknames them Gorillas

Pretty cool from Plymouth Indiana

Nice ending with the Triple crown. I heard they are done, any news about it, anyone?
Slowly being phased out.
@@tomp8871 I haven’t heard anything lately I do know Ford was shut down last week and they haven’t been running
That Triple Crown train, how many trailers does it normally contain?
It is the only one still running.
It's GREX Unit
Is GREX 6008 on DPU!
Certainly not a mystery locomotive and NOT in any way a DPU unit on its very best day. Could not recieve a signal if it wanted to.
Take it easy Francis
Nice footage, I have only seen those on MOW equipment trains usually!🛤🚂
