Goota give it to you guys, the thrills are surprisinglyeffective! And the "AI piano" plot twist was hilarious

The scream in the end was a little weak, but the whole thing is pretty impressive, even ignoring the massive time constraints. The acting was on point!
Also, the piano manual turned out so realistic! :D

Well done! It definitely looked like night btw, so that worked out really well! I am almost wishing the short film in itself was also a separate RUclips video? So I can rewatch just that part...
Though to hear your views on it was also interesting, and I wouldn't want to miss that.

You guys gave me tingles. Well made film that's immersing and convincing on a zero budget and little time. It was mentioned about the piano seeming it was in the movie/in his head. I think that lent to the scare factor. Is he insane, or is this happening? I also agree with Jack's opinion that the first scene piano should have been a distance ambient. Could have output the piano into a monitor in another room and mic recorded it at the PC/DAW. The lighting was actually good, and better if we didn't know it was shot during the day. Seriously way better lighting than I thought could be done considering restrictions. One thing that can be done in this case, is to use dead cardboard boxes opened up and taped to the window panes behind the shades. I know it's gross, but they are dead. I know of an organization making efforts to rescue them, and they find many that are dead as well. There is a great video on this topic, just look for Naturephile ;)

I came to check this out after the first half of Zedaph's interview with Imp and Skizz. I am very impressed. Thank you for adding a little joy between my creative work. It is funny how, in all creative jobs, the part you find the balk of the work is not. I write and I spend more time revising and promoting than I do coming up with a story. It looks like you time managed well here.

I am excited to see what you guys do with this channel. Jack, it is nice to meet you. You have a very pleasant demeanor (or is it demeanour in Brit?). Zedaph, I have been a silent but super fan since you joined Hermitcraft. I have gone back and watched all your videos. I watch your streams, though I am at work at the time and unable to participate in the chat. I have taken vacation time to watch your America livestreams with Tango. You are an amazing entertainer with a delicious sense of humor (pardon, humour) and a personality that I just adore. But this? This is a whole new level, completely out of the old wheelhouse. All this last year, I assumed your initials were ZF and imagined you as a Zachary. Kris? MIND. BLOWN.

For your first time doing something under such narrow time constraints, I think it turned out very well indeed. I do agree that the biggest improvement would have been to condense the two downstairs trips, but even with that, it didn't feel over-padded, it's just something that could easily have been trimmed to save on time and work.
Really looking forward to the next one, now you've learned how to improve things even further!

I'm rewatching all your videos & enjoying them as much as when they were new.
Maybe it's just me, but I was never bothered that he ran away down the stairs then went back up to confront the demon multiple times. It's a solid strategy. And when you have no one else around to help you, you have to buck up and banish the demon yourself.
If anything, him running away but having to walk back up those stairs made it even more relatable & horrific.

Nicely done, and great analysis afterwards. You did a great job of adjusting the light to make it look like it was night. Also I liked that you actually shot 3 angles for the analysis at the end, it was so seamless I'm sure not everyone noticed it but it helped to add to the quality of the video. Keep it up!

  • @that_filmguy
    @that_filmguy 6 лет назад

This was so well done. I honestly found it difficult to believe that it was done in 12 hrs. The lighting is my first applause. There are ways to light a room for darkness (plenty of tutorials on youtube, i suggest FilmRiot), but making the decision to do it in post really helped the horror theme. The color grade added some grain to the footage, and sort of forced a vignette, which really helps focus in the horror feel. Well done. Yall mention that you felt that Kris running up and down the stairs twice, and entering and existing the piano room twice, felt like it doesn't make sense. I feel that his helped the horror tone. The rules of cinematic camera movement, and setting the scene talk about showing where your scene is at, sort of setting the stage for your audience, before leading into close up shots. By not doing that, and sticking with close up shots, or small room shots, you help set a feeling of confusion, which really aids the horror aspect. This film was amazing, and for the first of (hopefully) many, I cant wait to see what yall are capable of further on. Well done, and keep up the amazing work.

Used to have a recurring nightmare that was almost identical to this, so the horror aspect really hit me! Fantastic job though, loved it! From a music standpoint, I think it could've benefitted from the piano having a "main creepy theme" that it always used initially when Kris thought it'd gone away but then it came back. Would play into the whole psychological aspect and add a bit more of a punch to the ending, I think :)

Great job guys. Good effort on making it look like night/evening when you shot during daylight. On the line in the AI piano manual, I got enough information from that shot to understand just fine. A flashback to Kris unpacking the piano, looking at the manual and then tossing it aside could have been good (could have replaced the second stairwell trip with that). You could have had him panicking in the search for the manual because he can't find it.

Would it work if you duct taped black trashbags (cut open to maximise the size) over the window? basically a selfmade blackout curtain...
and to incorporate technology: trying to call somebody and then just hearing the piano instead of somebodys voice would have worked :-)
