Assigns let you customize button functions and expansions on the RC-300. A little confusing at first, but super useful.

first off....you are the most helpful guy i have found on the entire interwebs when it comes to the rc300.....so on behalf of everyone and myself...thank you! i'm recently rediscovering the joys of this pedal....many thanks to your videos which revealed options that i previously didn't know existed. i am trying to change memory patches with my digitech fsx3 footswitch,...i've got a trs cable connected from the CTL1/2 output to it and find that it works sometimes without setting anything up in the individual patches to make it do so....usually it will allow me to switch the patches down with the fsx3 , but not up....i've found that sometimes, but not always, if i want to make it go up i have to hit down on the fsx3 (which is actually labeled UP) and then up on the fsx3 (which is labeled MODE)i thought maybe it was a bad pedal...but i tried this with the boss fs8 with similar results. ...does this sound like a no brainer of something i'm doing wrong? i would love some insight. i'm sure you're a busy guy so if i never hear from you, you're still my idol when it comes to this pedal :)

I think I do know the answer. Not exactly a no-brainer but you'll see that it does make sense. Bear with me if this gets a little technical/long, or if it includes any info you already know.
Short answer: Pretty sure your gear isn't broken. The third button on the FS3X presses both of the other two at once (I forget which one but I think it's the one all the way on the right). Also the reason some patches are behaving differently than others is because they probably have their Assigns programmed differently (it's on a per-patch basis, so once you hit a patch that doesn't have either the up or down assignment, that button won't take you further). Longer version below.

There's two parts to what's going on here. Part one is how the FS3X works:
Most dual pedals work by sending a signal (when you press the button) through a normal stereo cable. One button will send a signal on the right channel, the other on the left. On the other end, machines are programmed to recognize each of those signals and do something.
In the case of the FS3X, Digitech has rather cleverly added one more by having a third button that sends a signal on both channels at the exact same time. Some units (such as the ones they make) will interpret this as a third command. However the RC-300 isn't one of them.
So if you use the FS3X, one of your three buttons will be the same as pressing the other two at the same time. I haven't found a use for this myself but I guess it could come in handy.
I used to have one. I don't anymore (well... I kind of do. I modified it and then stopped using it, which is another story). If I remember correctly it was like this:
Mode is CTL 1
Down is CTL 2
Up is CTL 1 + CTL 2
I might be wrong about exactly which button was which, but with a little experimentation you should be able to tell.
So if you want to use it, you can either ignore the labels on the front (or tape over them and write something else) or open it up and switch the buttons from underneath (this is actually pretty easy since they just screw on and off).
(Random story: in my case I opened it up, swapped the buttons, and then sawwed off the section of the housing that held the MODE button. I was using it with a Solo XT looper at the time (to activate samples) and had no use for the MODE function and wanted to save space. I used a straight connector so it was really compact. But then I switched to a JamMan Stereo. I still have that "custom" FS3X though. :P)
Anyway, Part 2 has to do with how Assigns are stored. Each patch has its own set of Assigns. So the reason some patches are letting you switch patches with the pedals and some aren't is because only some of them have an assign allowing you to do so. For example if Patch 3 has an Assign to go up when you hit CTL 1, you hit CTL 1 and you go to Patch 4. But if Patch 4 doesn't have that same Assign, the button won't take you to the next patch anymore.
What probably happened was that you changed the Assigns on those patches and replaced the defaults which allow you to switch memories. So get one patch that's working how you want, and then copy it. Do that by hitting write, and before you confirm, twist the knob to the next patch over, and then hit write again. Do that as many times as you need to to copy your favorite patches.
All that said, here is a super easy way to change patches without using or program any assigns at all: lightly step on the wheel and turn it one click to the right or left. As long as you don't put a lot of weight on it you won't break anything. This is also a good way to quickly clear all your tracks. Just click one forward and one back.

Threeleggedyoyo you rock man! I went into the assigns on each patches and without realizing it some of them were, in fact, programmed differently, albeit by accident. Once i reassigned them all with the proper ctls it worked! Woohoo! Thanks for making it clear and simple to see.

Start by checking the batteries, since the FS-6 needs those. After that, check and see if each and every patch has the necessary command (CTL 1 = Mem Dec I think). Since you're jumping between patches they'll each need it. It also may be the min/max issue. Try reversing those for #1. If you still have problems, try the looper section of the vguitar forums (can't link but you'll see it in a search). Folks are quite helpful there. Good luck and thanks for watching!
The Behringer pedals work fine with the rc-300. Just open then up and reverse mount the internal circuit board so that the up and down buttons correspond to the rc's internal default program for ctl1, ctl2. Works like a charm.

Super clear and helpful. I see that this was done years ago, but i would love to get a full run down of all the functions built into the rc 300. Also a comparison to any other loopers you have worked with if you are still in the business of this! I am looking for a looper that can work for both live performances and song writing on the computer. Can you plug this in and have it load each individual layer in a loop onto a program like ableton or logic?

Thanks for the kind words. It's been a while since I've made a tutorial but I still use the RC a lot. Comparing all the available loopers is a big task but if you're curious about specific ones I can probably help.
You can use the RC with a computer in a couple ways. You can offload the wav files of individual tracks (not each overdub, just the whole of each track) via USB. You can also use it as a stereo USB recording interface while looping, which is cool.
What it doesn't really do is sync to software or control it. You can record what you're doing in software either via USB or by plugging your outputs into another interface. I don't think it sends Midi via USB.
There are some hacky workarounds if you want to send Midi output to your computer through an interface, and use some assigns. In my opinion they aren't worth the hassle compared to using a controller with software, but it is one option.
What I like to do is set my DAW to the same BPM manually (I guess I could set up an assign for this) and then record my sessions through an interface from the RC's audio outputs. You can set the input out (signal coming into the RC, ie "what you're playing right now") to go out separately through the subs (or you can just split your signal before it hits the RC and use that). This allows you to record the unlooped audio separate from the loops. If you have that, you have each layer on that track, and you can reconstuct your loops and remix using the jam as a scratch guide.
I don't know of any hardware loopers that are designed to work with at DAW.
The RC505 slaves better, I believe.
The EHX 95000 can be used as an interface but I don't know beyond that. Not sure how many track outputs via USB, either. Probably slaves better.
You can offload loops like the RC.
The new Headrush looper is advertising that it can reamp through Ableton so that's cool. I don't know if it can be used as a controller but I think it can sync to external devices better than the RC so that's something. I don't know how many outputs is has via usb. I think just stereo but I could be wrong. You can offload loops but I don't think you can offload as individual layers (I could also be wrong here).

Press the Loop FX button (not the foot pedal, but the chiclet button) and select INPUT.
(This set of selections, by the way, determines what the Loop FX will apply to).

Sometimes you'll see people playing something twice because the part repeats itself during another pattern that's longer. But in this case he could have done like you suggest. So I'm not sure why he did it that way.

The easiest way is to follow the instructions in the video above and use the following settings:
Source: External pedal
Source Mode: Toggle
Target: RHY Pattern
Min / Max: The patterns you want
You could do that several times with different pedals and have a few patterns on tap.

With the exception of reverb (which can be set per patch), the RC-300 can only use one effect at the same time. However, you could set up multiple assignment pedals to switch to the different effects more easily. Also, if you have the effects set up to effect the Input (the stuff you're playing right now) you can record a riff with delay, and then you could switch to distortion and record another riff with distortion.

Great tutorial. Was wondering if there is a way to set up what I guess would be called a "global reset". For example. I use this live and build the loops as I go for each song. I'll record 3 different tracks and when I'm done with a song I'll need to clear everything to start over for the next song. Is there a way to do this without having to go delete each track individually? I have one external foot switch to use. The boss FS6? Just the single switch. Please let me know if there's a way to do this. Thank you.
Hi Ben. Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, there are several ways to do this.
The simplest is to turn the memory wheel one click forward and one click back. That will bring you back to the blank patch. If you're careful, you can do this by stepping on it lightly and twisting in one direction, and then back the other way. Even with shoes on this isn't tough. Just don't put too much weight on it. This is the way I recommend doing it. Simple, no programming, no new equipment to buy.
Another way is to make three assigns, all with the same Source button, and with Track 1 Clear, Track 2 Clear, and Track 3 clear as the Targets. That takes up 3 assigns though.
Another way do it is to set an assign with the Target Memory INC (go up one patch) and another (or the same button) with Target Memory DEC (go back one patch). Just be aware that both of the patches have to have the assigns.
The last way is to use an external Midi pedal that sends PC messages. The RC300 will jump to the patch number of the PC message it receives. So leave the patch and come back. It might even clear the patch if it receives the number of the patch it's already on... not sure.

thejoolzi Yes and no (unfortunately mostly no).
With the exception of reverb (which is assigned for the whole unit or for each memory iirc) you can only use one effect at a time.
However, if you set the effect to INPUT and use Assigns to quickly switch between effect settings, you could record parts with different effects that then get played back at the same time.
If that's not enough and you straight up need effects at the same time, you'll want to use either a series of single-effect pedals or a multi-effects unit. There's lots to choose from. In my current setup (not seen in this video) I use a TC Helicon VL2 for vocal effects and a Boss GT-100 for guitar effects.
Is there any reason to prefer footswitch over a midi controller ?
A midi foot controller should be able to do all this right ?
Correct, you can do all this with a midi controller (set the CC# that the button sends to be the source for the assign on the RC). The advantages of footswitches are that they usually have a smaller footprint, they're easier to set up, they don't require power, and they are cheaper. However you can use up to 8 separate buttons with a midi controller instead of just 4, so if you're looking to max out functionality a midi controller is probably the way to go.

There's a couple different methods, but here is the simplest one:
1) Hit MEMORY EDIT and then hit the "right" button until it says "Assign 1 Target."
2) Use the wheel to set the Assign Target to RHY PATTERN
3) Then hit right until it says Assign1TargetMin and use the wheel to choose a drum beat you like.
4) Then hit right until it says Assign1TargetMax and use the wheel to choose another one
5) Hit right until it says Assign1 Source and pick the button you want to use to switch drum patterns
6) Hit right again until it says "Assign1 Src Mode" and select TOGGLE.
Now, whenever you hit your Source button, the looper will automatically switch between those two drum beats.

Thanks Michael! I haven't used the ME 50 myself. I've always had guitar pedals in the GT series. But a lot of units in the BOSS line use a similar Assign system. If you have any more specific questions about it let me know.
Hi,Is it possible to sync RC-300 with drum machine. Rc-300 as a controller start-stop drum machine, synchronization without recording machine on track. Maybe a controller an extra foot? What settings?

Hi Tomasz. Sorry that I missed this. It's totally possible.
You can connect any midi-capable drum machine to the RC-300 and get the behavior you describe. The RC-300 sends MIDI "start" and "stop" messages when you hit Play or Stop. You just need to make sure that the RC-300 is sending on a channel the drum machine will pick up. I'm pretty sure by default, the 300 sends it on every channel (Midi Omni On, I believe) so all you should need to do is connect your drum machine's MIDI IN port to the MIDI OUT port on the 300 and makes sure your drum machine is receiving.

Hi, thx for the video. I have a question regarding this foot switch: does it works with batteries? in case it need power, can you plug it to the net? I don't really like the idea of trusting batteries for gigs, so I rather to be connected to the net. Thx again!
+Josepet The behringers don't need batteries. Most dual pedals don't. A few use them to power the lights (the behringer doesn't have lights anyway).
Could also be a momentery/latch issue depending on your model. It's weird that one is working and the other isn't... again, try that forum if you have no luck. I and others can help you in detail there.

Yes, it works. As you guessed, two of the switches work as normal. Then the third switch acts as though you pushed both of the other switches at the exact same time.
I thought that was kind of cool but haven't ever found a particular use for it that would justify using it instead of smaller 2-button switches. Let me know if you do!

No, unfortunately you can't replace the onboard drum patterns. Too bad. But you can sync an external drum machine programmed however you like. I use an SR-16 and my own programmed beats for most of my songs.
It's true that the RC-300 doesn't slave well (in fact, it can only slave to another RC-300, but that's supposed to work fine), although there are some tricks you can do to almost trick it into being a slave to other things. But it does make a good master.

Hi Karol. Glad you like the video. Unfortunately what you're trying to do isn't really possible. You can change effects with assigns, and you can use them to control effects, but each effect can only be controlled in a single way, and in the case of the delay effect that's just wet/dry. It's too bad because I agree it would be a nice feature.
None of these are perfect solutions, but here's what you CAN do:
1) Bring up the delay parameters before you start playing so that you can change the speed by spinning the knob.
2) Save two different delay settings to two different memory patches and switch patches when you want to change speeds.
3) Change the tempo with tap tempo or assigns. Of course, that would change the speed of your existing recordings as well.
The next best thing is to just use other gear for the effect. I have a GT-100 which has the same delay effect and gives you that control, but of course the thing is huge. The Boss DD 500 is nice and is smaller. There's plenty of other delay effects with midi clock sync, but I don't know which ones allow foot pedal control of the delay speed. I'm pretty sure the M5 does but I'm not certain how it works.

If you have a Memory phrase (#2) playing on a single mode (3 tracks simultaneously or just one, it doesn't matter) Can I change a to another memory phrase (#3) with the control 1b (behringer pedal) without any cut or silence? (I need it as a section b of a song)
Sorry for neglecting to reply to this sooner. Yes, you could do that. But I'm not sure why you'd use an assign to do this. You can set the individual Play buttons to respond this way in the patch settings without using up assigns or extension pedals. Let me know if you need instructions.
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I'm just wondering if there is a way to either set the Single Track mode to only two tracks (so they play back in series vs layered). For example, if you're going to record something you want to play throughout the whole song (like a rhythm section), can you have that on Track 1, and then lay down the verse on Track 2 and chorus on Track 3, and the Track 1 would play along with Track 2 or Track 3 as you select. If not, is there a trick to laying down the same rhythm section (beat boxing or percussion) on more than one track at a time, so the rhythm would be on Tracks 2 and 3, and you could toggle between them as needed? Not sure if I'm being clear, but thanks for any help you may be able to offer. Cheers.
Hi Graydon. Yes that question makes sense. Unfortunately there's no way to set some Tracks to Single and the others to Multi. But you can get pretty close.
First, set the machine to Multi. Meanwhile, make sure Tracks 2 and 3 are set to stop playing at the pattern end (see manual p17). This should let you hit stop on Track 2 a little early and then do a second press of in time for the measure start for Track 3, and vice versa. That alone may be enough.
For a little more convenience, you can set up some Assigns to help you. There's a few ways ways to do this, but here is my recommendation. Set the machine to Multi. Then use two Assigns. Set a momentary control button Target to Track 2 Play / Stop, and then with another assign, set the SAME button to also have the momentary Target track 3 Play / Stop. This button is now your "Switch" button that you can use to go from one to the other in a single press (or to start or stop both if none or both are playing). You can't use it to record, however.
You may also want to experiment with the Track Sync setting (p18) depending on what you're going for.
Like I mention, there's a couple other ways to do it, but in my opinion that's the most useful and least confusing.

Graydon Tullis Although it's not live, you can make the rhythm track, then copy it to all 3 tracks.
I followed your directions and it seems that the undo/redo function that enables is the one that applies if you hold the "stop" button for 2 seconds (when the undo/redo function applies to the entire track).
How do I make it apply to only the last overdub on a given track (similar to the undo/redo function that happens when you hold the "dub" button)?

Hi Jason! Thanks for watching!
First of all, try selecting TR1 Undo/Redo (or TR 2 UNDO / REDO, etc) as your target instead of Undo / Redo if you want it to apply specifically to a certain track every time. That is the same command as holding a specific dub button, like you mentioned. The setting I showed you always applies to the last overdub across all 3 tracks, not the last one on a specific track.
As for the other part, if you area actually CLEARING a track with the command I showed you, it is probably because you only have one layer on the track you are undoing, so it is just erasing it. You have to have a second layer on a track in order to do that undo without clearing the whole track.
If you need to Undo / Redo in and out of complete silence, set an Assign for that track that controls the Volume between 0 and 100 instead. Or, record a blank loop first and make the phrase an overdub over that and use Undos.

Hello, is it possible to assign the pedals do Record/Stop? I want to be able to record other instruments when a feet away from the pedal board (for example: precussion etc). Thanks for the video.
Hi Rene, you're welcome. Glad you like the video. You can assign Play/Stop for any combination of tracks, but not Record. What I'd do in that situation is get it recording on overdub and then head to the other gear.
You could also use the Autorecord feature.
If that's not enough I think the Rc-505 can assign Record but I'm not certain. You could also sync up a separate Rc300 or use some other looper. Hope that helps.

Is it possible to reassign the FX ON/OFF to Mic Input ON/OFF? I won't use the onboard effects and the light indicator would be a big help for that, so as to avoid mic signal spilling into the loops when looping just the guitar (if you just use an external footswitch with no light indicator like the FS-5U, after a few times it could become hard to know if the mic's on or off).
Hi Hyacinth, thanks for the kinds words. That's a good question. I had to fire up my RC300 to find out for sure.
You can use the System menu to determine if the FX pedal is just FX, Assigns, or both. What I found was that if you set it to just Assigns, the light doesn't go on anymore. So yes you can use the button, but then you wouldn't have the light.
There's a workaround, though. If you set it to FX + Assigns, then choose an effect that doesn't do anything, you'll be all set. For example you could use Transpose and set it to 0, or use a Filter with no depth, etc. This way you're technically turning the FX on and off along with the mic, but it shouldn't actually do anything.
Alternatively, you can always get an external pedal with a light. Another solution is to use an A/B petal with your mic where one output goes to the RC-300 and the other goes nowhere (to mute it) or straight to the PA (if you want to be able to loop a guitar but not a mic for example). That's what I do.

Right now I’m using one mic with the palmer peabo, but it has some issues - it pops when I switch to the second output (the one to the looper), so I have to have the mic input knob on the looper down, switch to the second output on the peabo and then turn up the input knob on the looper, which can be a hassle. It’s essentially the A/B solution, but with xlr in and outs, instead of jack, which is great and I can’t find another pedal like that. But I guess I could use an A/B pedal with jack io for the mic and run it through a di before it goes to the PA, like the guitar signal?
I was actually thinking of going back to two mics if I can have the mic input on/off switch on the looper. I’m rocking the rc-30 now, but I’ll be upgrading to the rc-300 soon.

Yeah, popping can be a problem sometimes. For a long time I used an EHX switchblade that I added an LED to. They have the Switchblade + now which comes with a light and is an A/B/Y. The downside is that I have to use a 1/4 cable to XLR adapter which is a little messy (my Mic signal runs through a Voicelive 2 which already has 1/4 output). But I haven't had too many problems with that. A little extra buzz maybe.
Now I'm using a switcher I got from Saturnworks but it's basically the same thing.
Anyway, I'm not sure why you're getting a lot of popping. I'd ask around. It might be the unit you're using or it might be some other problem. A DI might help. Sorry I'm not more help.

This might seem like a far out question, but do you know whether it is possible to assign the RC 300 as a midi controller on DAW such as Ableton or Logic? As I've given up on trying to sync the time signature of the RC 300 with the software, I thought I'd use the software's own looper with the RC 300 as midi pedalboard. Hope you can help!

You can set CTL pedals like I show in the video to send a CC message (Make the Target a CC number and set Ableton to recognize that number as a command), which could do it. Same with the FX button. Your STOP pedals also send a MIDI STOP command, but cannot be reprogrammed. You can also have the built-in expression pedal send CC values.
You can use the Track 1-3 buttons as Source buttons as well, but it gets kind of tricky there. If I remember right off the top of my head, the RC300 has "Track 1 Record" and "Track 1 Play" as different Sources. So it will do different things based on the current recording state of the RC300. There might be a great use for that, but I've mostly found it confusing when I've tried to use it. So unfortunately for your purposes I wouldn't really recommend it. You'd be better off with a Behringer FSB1010, which has 2 expressions and I think 10 foot buttons which can be programmed however you want.
Also, if you search or post on the vguitar forums (can't link specific threads here) for information regarding linking the RC300 to Ableton, you may be pleasantly surprised. I've never tried it myself, and you're not the first one to express frustration. However, I think some people have been successful at it as well.

It would seem that there is a compatibility problem between the RC 300 and ableton (I did try with logic too, but it didn't work). Some users seem to have manage to sync theirs through reason propellerhead 5, using a roland UM-1 midi-USB converter. Unfortunately, I am in no rush to start using yet another DAW, so I think I'll invest in a midi pedalboard (the Behringer FSB1010 is actually pretty affordable). Anyhow, keep up the great work, I'll be following your posts closely!

Michael Gambino Music Like I mention in the video, mine are Behringer FS112 pedals. There's a few similar models with slightly different names. The only difference I'm aware of is how the buttons are labeled. I believe they all work the same. Even if they don't, you should be able to adjust settings on the RC-300 so that it doesn't matter.
Any dual button footswitch will work though.

+StagesofSleep Yes, an FS-6 would work. the CTRL jacks are on the back of the RC300 like I pointed out in the video. As for the cables, usually you want a stereo cable. In this case you'll want an adapter to combine the two mono cables, and then connect that to a stereo cable. There's plenty out there. Your local shop should be able to help you. Good luck!

I have Boss FS-6 Dual Footswitch connected to CTL 1,2/EXP input with Koltz stereo cable and set everything the same way you did on your video. The problem is that I can only go up through my playlist with a "B"(2) button, while "A"(1) doesn't really do anything, so I can't go back down. Do I need an adapter to connect 2 mono cables into stereo and plug it into CTL 1,2/EXP to make it work right? If you had any idea about what I'm doing wrong, or what has to be done I would appreaciate any kind of help. Cheers!

You can't add a 4th channel, through Assigns, no. Although the RC-505 kind of has 5. Alternatively you could hook up a second RC-300 and get 6.
Hypothetically, you might be able to sort of get a 4th loop by using a really long delay on your input.
Also, there is a trick you can use to sort of fake getting more channels (up to 6, to be exact) out of a single unit. It's complicated and requires some extra gear. You can read my writeup on it here: www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=7716.0

Now the "live"-signals will be playing through the main outputs- totally separated L/R- correct?
Now for the track outputs. I plan on using one of the tracks ex. track 1 for beatboxing and percussion sounds from guitar, so I would assign the output for that to SUB output. But on track 2 I would like to have all the acoustic guitar sounds, and track 1 all the vocal singing sounds. What I'm after here is to assign them to their corresponding "live"-signal's output, ie. Acoustic "track" to MAIN L and singing track to MAIN-R. Or are the tracks inevitably going to mash into mono to both outputs main L/R?

Hi Rasmus. Sorry for the slow response. For some reason this message slipped by my radar for a while. Good on you for doing your homework before you buy. We certainly have that in common. Don't worry about the long question. I've seen much longer and you were actually pretty concise.
Now to your questions...

Yes, that setup will do exactly what you say as long as you have the machine set to "Stereo." One caveat is that anything you plug into the RC-300's XLR jack always goes out of both the L and R jacks, though. So your plan to use a TRS jack for your mic is essential for what you're looking for.
As long as you're in stereo, whatever you record into the R input will come out of the R outputs, and whatever you record into the L inputs will come out of the R outputs. Even if you record onto the same Track. For your application of two parts and two outputs, that's all you really need. You can record to two different Tracks if you want (or not) and that won't really change anything.
"Now for the track outputs..."
The answer here is both "Mostly yes." There's a few pieces of information to understand here that don't flow in a specific order, so just bear with me...
Fact 1) You can set each Track individually to go out of either the Main, Sub, or Main+Sub jacks. So with your setup you could use this to send what you recorded onto Track 1 from the INS R jack to either the Main R, Sub R, or both of those outputs. Same with the L.
Fact 2) If you wish, you can pan each Track individually. So using that I'm pretty sure you could send all the audio on a Track (regardless of whether it was input through the L or R INS jack) to any one of the 4 outputs.
Fact 3) Here is the tricky one. Both Fact 1 and Fact 2 refer only to RECORDED sound. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure (about 95%) the RC-300 doesn't treat it as being "Track" sound until it has been recorded and is playing back. Until then, it is "Input" sound. In other words, whatever you're playing right this moment has its own routing. This is referred to as "Input Outut" by the manual. This can also be set to Main, Sub, or Main+Sub, but it's not going to change automatically based on whatever track you're recording into.
Hopefully that makes sense. Feel free to ask for clarification. Also, you might like the rc-300 section at vguitarforums. I have posted there a lot, and others have too. So it's a good place to read up and / or ask more questions.

I use looping for both vocals and guitars, and play and sing at the same time. But today I tried using this pedal and… if I for example have distortion on the guitar, then I have the same effect on my voice as well… And nothing I can do about that. Please help!
You're welcome. I'm glad you like it.
You can assign effects to Input, Tracks 1, 2, or 3, to the Main Out (everything going out of the loopstation) or the Main Out and Rhythm. Unfortunately you can't set it to affect some inputs and not others.
The workaround I use is to connect my mic to an A/B pedal. One output goes into the RC-300 and the other goes straight into the PA so I can bypass looping / FX unless I want to use them.
Not an ideal situation, but I hope that helps anyway.

I've been playing around with the pedal for a couple of days and decided that the best solution for me would be to use my vocal and guitar pedals as well, and to use the rc-300 effects in addition (when I use one input at a time)… I was trying to get away with using only rc-300, but it looks like I still need additional pedals. Cool. Is it possible to use an external pedal to record/play/dub a track - i.e. to mimic the behaviour of the normal on-board pedals? I have an electric drum kit that's a few feet away from the RC300, and I want to use an external pedal to start and stop looping from the drumkit.
Hi Neil. Sort of but not really. You can set assigns to play/stop tracks, but not record or overdub them. Not sure why they left that out. I believe you can on the RC-505 though (though that unit is more for use with the hands).
I'd say your best bet with the RC300 would be to start an overdub early on the way to the drumset.
You could also experiment with using the Input Master Level target on a toggle (min 0, max 100) as a recording On/Off switch during an active overdub.
Right. Yeah, I tried laying down a quiet "metronome" track as the first loop on track1, then overdubbed on the kit. It works as a workaround. The problem is STOPPING the first drum loop. The bass drum pedal and Boss are too far apart. Good tutorial, BTW. Cheers...
You know, I had another thought. You could also try:
1) Turning on the auto-record function to start the loop
2) Setting the track length to a predetermined length beforehand, and
3) Setting the loop end to "Play" rather than "Overdub."
I haven't tried all those together, but in theory, they might be what you need.
By the way, are you using Multi or Single mode?
Multi. Yeah, I thought about that too. Set the track to 4 bars (or 16 beats) and it would auto-stop and start looping right away. Is that how it works? Or is the length measured in seconds...
You could also set a count-in instead of using the auto-record function. This all assumes the drums are the first thing you're recording though.

+jai vandendorp Under the FX there's one called GT ---> Bass or something like that. It does work, but not especially well. Make sure your guitar is precisely in tune and play very cleanly and you may get decent results. YMMV. I use a doubleneck Bass / Guitar personally. Another option is is a pedal such as a MicroPOG or the Mooer Tender Octaver (but NOT the Pure Octave... that one sucks).

Yeah. Hit the System button and hit the right arrow a few times. There's a setting that's set to Rec > Overdub. When you see it change to Rec > Play.
I like to keep mine on Rec > Overdub. You can cut off any excess loop by hitting "Undo" after the loop if it's a problem, so it's a best of both worlds situation. But they both have their advantages.

Ghostiche yeah. You could use three assigns (clear track 1, clear track 2, clear track 3) in one pedal to clear the three tracks. You can also just turn the memory wheel one patch forward and one back. I do this with my foot. As long as you step on it gently it shouldn't cause any problems.

What's up Manuel. Unfortunately that model only sends Program Change (PC) Midi messages. When the RC-300 gets a Program Change message it will jump to the patch of that number. But you can't get it to respond to a Program Change message differently. To do that, you'd need to either get a different controller that sends Control Change (CC) messages or an intermediate box that converts PC to CC messages. At that point you use the CC as the Source and make the Target into whatever you want it to do as shown in the video.

Right. Midi can be sent on any of 16 "channels." Like a TV, a device will only pick up messages from the channel it's tuned in to. The RC-300 can send and receive on any Midi channel. The obstacle you have isn't a channel issue. It's that the Art x-11 only sends Program Change Midi messages. The RC-300 can recognize those, but it only uses them to change patches. If you want to use assigns with a Midi controller, you need one that sends Control Change messages. Alternatively, you could buy an intermediate device that will send a Control Change message when it receives the Program Change message from the Art x-11. But usually, such a device costs as much as a whole new controller.
A lot of foot controllers only send PC messages. It's annoying. The FCB1010 is the most readily-available controller that does both, but there's others if you look around. Not sure what else is out there off the top of my head.

Is there any way of simply assigning the rhythm section to a pedal? For example, I'm building backing tracks essentially to play over live. I'm using the RC300s rhythm effects as my drummer. I want Track 1 to control the drums, Track 2 to be my rhythm guitar, Track 3 to be my lead riff etc.
At the moment if the Rhythm is turned on it will play whenever I turn any pedal on, over the top of whatever I have already recorded on there. If it is off, it will not play on any, even if it were turned on when I originally recorded the clip.
Is there any way to control the rhythm on/off using a track pedal. I'd like to be able to turn the rhythm off with my foot, leaving the rhythm playing for example, at my convenience. Apparently the only way to do that at the moment is to reach down and press the tiny button!

Thanks Angus. Yeah, you can totally do that. You have a couple options.
Set up the drums to be on on your patch. Set the volume to zero, but don't turn it off. Then set up a control button using the instructions in the video. Make the Target "RHY Level" on a toggle, with the Min/Max at 0/100 (or maybe 100/0, or 0 and some other value). This will give you a toggle switch to turn the drums on and off.
By the way, it's important to know that the RC300 acts differently if you have the drums on, but set to a volume of zero than it does if you just plain have the drums off. If it's on (even if the volume is zero), it will cut your loops to the nearest measure. If you've got it turned off, it will guestimate your tempo based on the length of the loop between when you started and ended your first loop. I prefer the former, so I rarely actually turn my drum machine "off," but usually have the volume at 0 so I can use an external drum machine.
If it's important to have separate buttons for start/stop rather than a single toggle, just have a dual pedal extension and set one button to 100/100 and the other to 0/0.
I wouldn't recommend it, but If it's important to you to use the Track buttons in particular to do it, you'll just have to use a cable to record the output of the drum machine on a track. Save your patch and you're good to go.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this looper can't use CTL fuctions to reassign the loop record functions.
If you want to use your hands, though, there is nothing stopping you from putting the RC300 on a table. You could also try the RC505, which is designed to be used with hands.
There's lots of other loopers you could look into as well. I don't know what would be best for drummers.

Question. If you hold in the external footswitch when its assigned to preset change, does it scroll through the presets fast, rather than just changing to the next preset? I need to get through the presets fast when playing live as i might jump from say 2 to 90 to get to particular songs. Atm I have to reach over and scroll with the knob. Thanks.
Hi Jon,
For mine at least, that action happens when you let go of the button, so holding it down doesn't help. There might be a setting to mess with depending on your pedal to change that (some have a polarity switch that might make it happen "on press" which may or may not fix the problem here). But in any case, there's better ways to do it that don't use up Assigns:
1) Hold down the Loop FX button for 3 seconds. Some lights will flash. Now your Track 1 Play and Stop are Preset Up/Down buttons. If you hold it down it will scroll quickly. Hit Loop FX button again when you have the patch you want to call up.
2) If you send Program Change messages to the RC with another device via Midi, you can jump to particular patches. You may need to make sure the device and/or the RC are set to send/recieve PC messages. Any device that sends PC can do it - a Midi Mouse, an appropriate Disaster Area controller, MidiBuddy, FCB1010, or even many other multieffects units or keyboards can do this.
If you just need to go a memory or two up or down quickly, you can lightly step on the wheel and turn it a click or two. I'd do that and option 1 if I didn't want to use my hands.

The Stop buttons are also Tap Tempo buttons. Or you can use an Assign to give the Tap Tempo function to another button. Some bands run a momentary pedal to the drummer so he can do it himself.

Hi, bit out of topic, but I was wondering how I could record reversed tracks from the rc 300 on logic. More specific: I use to load down the tracks as waves and just paste them into the logic arrange. So far so simple. But for reversed played tracks that won't work, because the wavefile itself is not reversed of course. So, do you've figured out a way to workaround ?
Other than record the audio manual or resend the reversed track to another bank thru the outs and ins (did not even know if that would do the job or just destroying my rc ?)

+Peter Müller It sounds like the best thing to do would just be to reverse them in Logic, which shouldn't be too hard (I don't know how, but it's easy on most DAWs).
Alternatively, try saving after you reverse a loop. If that doesn't work, try copying the reversed track to a new track. Turn the knob during the write process and you can copy individual tracks. Try copying one that's already reversed... that might do it. Not sure though... I've never tried doing it this way.

I'm using Behringer FS112 pedals.
So, I am syncing the RC-300 (master) to an RC-50 (slave) but am having some issues. Except when on 'internal' or 'remote' in RC-50, the RC-50 is recording enabled when a loop sample is triggered in the RC 300. This means, when the 300 starts a loop, the 50 is record enabled. How do I disable that? When the 50 is record enabled it records automatically and the number of measures no longer syncs with the number of measures specified in the 300. Question is: how do i disable the record on the 50 when using a sample in the 300? Is there a way to assigne these controls so the recording is manually enabled?
There's a couple ways you could deal with it that I know of. Neither is ideal, but they're both serviceable enough.
1) Pre-set the number of measures on your phrase (aka track) on the RC50 beforehand. It will still record automatically, but it should record the appropriate number of measures so that it won't get out of sync.
2) Pre-record some silence of the appropriate length on the RC50 beforehand. This will not only do what #1 does, but make it so that the RC50 will play instead of record when you start things up on the RC300. Then if you want to record manually later, it's just a matter of overdubbing.

Andy Lubner Hey, sorry I missed this. I sold my RC-50 so I can't check for certain. But if I recall correctly it should be an option under the "Phrase 1" button set of menus (or Phrase 2 or 3). Those buttons are in the Phrase Edit section of the device.

I don't know if you can answer this, but I'm using a harmony pedal that has stereo outs to allow the harmonies to be panned LR while the lead vocal stays centre.
If I use an xlr y-cable to send these LR harmony outs into the single xlr input on the rc300, am I just merging them back to mono anyway?

In a word, yes. The XLR jack is a Mono input. For a little more detail read on...
So the RC300 has 3 sets of inputs:
There's the 2 INS jacks (left and right)
The AUx jack (a single jack, but it is a stereo input unlike the INS jacks)
One XLR input (mono)
If you use the device in Mono mode, everything gets output in Mono. If you use it in Stereo mode, it works like this:
INS R goes to Main R, and INS L goes to Main L.
Aux R goes to Main R, and Aux L goes to Main L.
XLR always goes to Main R and Main L.
So if you want to maintain your stereo separation, you'll want to plug the harmony pedal's output into the INS jacks or the AUX jack.
Wow you really know this thing inside out. Thanks a million bud - It seems I'll have to live with mono for the harmonies, since all the inputs are suddenly full since adding a synth to the AUX and stereo guitar to the INS's.
But reading further down these youtube comments expanded my world yet again:
I hate the lack of speed when switching effects on the 300... I assumed that I had to just pick the most useful RC300 effect for guitar and vocal (which, as we all know is Delay), and toggle it on/off with the FX switch - if I didn't want to be wasting time with a long press followed by ten presses to scroll to the next effect and back again. This leaves a huge amount of power untapped.
Custom Assigns has been staring me in the face all this time!
Using the ext footswitch set to toggle, Off is now Delay, and On is Tremolo. You're a fricking genius :) I can even see at a glance which one is active, since they light different category LEDs on the front of the unit.
MORE FOOTSWITCHES = MORE HAPPINESS!!!
One more question and I'll stop hassling you - have you had any experience using the Voicelive 3 from TC Helicon? I suspect it will open up lots of nice opportunities for even more tempo-synced effects.

As long as you mix your volumes before they are plugged in, you'll be ok. I'm guessing you are using effects units for both your vocals and guitar since you have stereo, so you probably want to control your mix from there, anyway (A VL3 would do this nicely).
By the way, if you didn't realize, you'll need a stereo A/B pedal to switch your vocals in and out of the 300 rather than a typical mono one. I'm actually in the middle of ordering one myself for the same purpose. saturnworkspedals.com/product/ab-pedal/ makes a stereo one (I'm not part of the company but I like their stuff). Yes, toggles are great for effects switching. If you need more, a double control pedal can go into the CTL jack like in the video (and with 2 jacks you can have up to 4 of those, so that would be up to 8 effects / parameters accessible via toggle). If you need EVEN more, you could use a MIDI controller with CC# commands as the source and set them to toggle... so assuming you had no other assigns you could max out at 16 (8 assigns toggling effects). That would be overkill, but that's the limit. I find a couple patches with 2 different effects on toggle is enough for me.
I haven't used the Voicelive 3, but I do own the previous model (The Voicelive 2). It's an excellent unit. My current setup has a VL2 for vocal / saxophone effects, and a GT-100 for guitar effects. Both are synced via MIDI from the RC-300. My only complaint with the VL2 is that I've had some difficulty using the guitar input / thru output without some buzz being introduced. I haven't tried too hard to figure it out, though, and it is just as likely to be the fault of the way the rest of my rig is set up as it is the VL2 itself.
The Voicelive 3 extreme is another unit you could look into if you wish... on paper, it's a guitar effects unit, looper, backing track provider, and vocal effects unit all in one. In practice I don't know if it works great or not. That seems like a lot to do with a small amount of buttons. You can program your button presses for a song in advance, which is cool (I don't think the 3 lets you do that). I think it might be awkward if you're looking to improvise without more buttons though.

Ah of course - it never even occurred to me to look for a dedicated stereo AB pedal. That'll work perfectly. Thanks very much for the help - I didn't realise you played the sax also. What are your thoughts on the Aerophone from Roland? Still not quite perfect replication of the brass/woodwind sound, but as close as anything so far, I think!
The voicelive3 is on the shopping list - I don't think I'll need the Extreme, since we build every song from scratch during the live show, but it's a shame they don't do the basic one in black! I think for the time being I'll grab a couple of extra FS7 footswitches and see how much I can get out of the rc300's effects. I've always been annoyed at the lack of quick access, but at tonight's show i assigned a spare footswitch to Tremolo and switched between that and the delay - so cool!
Unfortunately the switch is dangerously close the one one I've assinged to 'Clear All', so it was terrifying to use.

I haven't tried the Aerophone, but I'd like to! It's a cool concept, I think. I do have an old Roland Mic to Midi converter that I've experimented with with the sax.
By the way, I might have steered you wrong on those Hosa splitters. It looks like they're for splitting a signal, not for joining signals. It might work or it might cause problems. I'm looking at Mini Mixers now for the same purpose. They're not too expensive and you can get passive ones.
Awesome! At there very start of the video you were changing memory locations? How did you do that? Can't figure it out at all. I'm using the fs6 pedal and it seems that only one side of fs6 can control it? I want to be able to assign say A on the fs6 to go up a memory location and B to go back down. Any advice would be great
There's a few ways to do it without assigns at all:
1) Step on the wheel lightly and twist
2) Hold down Track 1 Play and stop for a couple seconds. This changes it to a memory up/down button.
3) Or use assigns as shown in the video. If this isn't working for you it means you changed the default assigns, probably. Each patch needs to have one with the target set to memory up and one with the target set to memory down. Watch the video to see how to set them. Or initialize the patches since this should be the default for 1 and 2.
@@Threeleggedyoyo thanks for your reply. I think I might have to default setting it as non of that is working. When I step on bank A and stop and play all it does it give me a tap tempo control with stop button. I initially assigned a pedal to do that in ctrl 1/2 using another boss pedal. I've had this pedal for a while now and I understand it but I just can't seem to get it to change memory locations using the fs6 or bank A.

@@boabglen You don't have to factory reset to initialize one track. But anyway. Yeah you just need to follow one of those methods I listed. You can also clear all three tracks by going up and down a patch.

Not able to at the moment, but if it's not working I'm guessing it's your settings. Press the Loop FX button and see what the FX Target is set to. If you want it to apply to already-recorded material, set it to one of the tracks or Main Out Total. If you want it to apply to what you're currently playing set it to Input.
It's also possible that the transposition is set to 0 in the settings for the individual effect (that would be raising / lowering it by 0 half steps, so it would do nothing). You get to those by hitting the arrow buttons and turning the wheel after hitting the FX button (not the pedal, but the small button). There might be a volume setting for that effect in there as well... make sure the effect itself isn't turned down too low so you can't hear it.

Thanks for the vid. I have the Boss FS-6 Dual Foot Switch but I'm having some problems. Right now all I want to do is increase/decrease and I can only seem to get the "B" ("B" on the boss, 2 on yours) to increase while the A (1 on yours) does nothing. My goal is to have "A" increase and "B" decrease - but at this point I'll take either. Any tips?

Check the cable you're using and make sure it is TRS, not just a regular guitar-type cable.
I am trying to use a Digitech FS3X pedal - like you first mentioned in the above video - I wanted to assign the "Mode", or first toggle (Left to Right) to be Undo/Redo...followed like you did above, but no workie...any suggestions? I was looking to then assign Tap Tempo to one of the other toggles.
Second question....Can I control an FX, like Delay, with said Tap Tempo???

So, Digitech FS3X's are weird. They'll work but they're kind of different. Allow me to explain.
The way 2 button switches work is by sending a signal on either the Left or Right channel of a standard stereo cable. The FS3X squeezes a third one out of this (the Mode button) by simultaneously sending a signal on both channels.
Digitech pedals are often designed to recognize this and treat it as a whole new command, but most other pedals won't. They'll just see it as the equivalent of stepping on the Up and Down buttons at the same time.
If I remember right (assuming you're plugged into the 1/2 CTL jack), Up = CTL 1, Down = CTL 2, Mode = 1+2 at the same time.
So if you've got two Assigns you've set up and want to trigger at the same time, by all means. But otherwise ignore the Mode button.
99% sure that's what the deal was... The button on the right might have been the "both" trigger but I'm pretty sure it was Mode. So yeah... try setting it up with that understanding and let me know if you get it working.
Thx for such a quick response! So...you wouldn't happen to know if there is any way to control the Delay FX tempo via Tap Tempo, would you? I have been searching HIGH and LOW ... I just got the RC-300 (for the 2nd time - first time a year or two ago, and decided it was more than I needed then) to replace my Digitech Jamman Delay - which I absolutely loved.

Yeah, you can do that. It will sync to your tempo automatically.
All of the Stop buttons function as Tap Tempo buttons, so just set up your tempo and you're good to go.
In the effect controls you can set up how you want it to interact with the tempo (quarter notes, eighth notes, etc).
If you want an additional tap tempo button (one that you can use while the unit is running) you can set one up via an Assign or use the little square Tap Tempo button on the unit.
Hey! I don't like having to reach for the All Start/Stop pedal when singing and playing. Is there anyway to assign the all start/stp function to the expression pedal which is much easier to find and control mid song. Thanks.

If you set it to Momentary, it will play when you put the toe down and stop when you put the heel down.If you set it to Toggle, it will play or stop when the toe is put all the way down.
However, just know that you CAN'T reassign the All Start / Stop button. I don't know why. Terrible shame.

You CAN set a different button to perform the same function using the settings I gave you above. Go through the steps in the video with the settings I posted for you and you should get the behavior you're looking for.

Sure. You have a couple options.
One is to connect the Akai's out through the Mic jack in. You'd need an adapter to convert your 1/4 plug into an XLR.
Another is to use the AUX jack. By the way, the AUX jack is a stereo input, so you can split it if need be for yet another discreet input.

You're welcome! No problem. You can turn the drums on and then use a Target toggle to set the drum volume to 100 max / 0 min. I recommend doing it this way instead of the drums on/off because it will keep quantization on.

Hi, i got ,me a Behringer FS112GMX footswitch (the black one). It's working but it's not usable for start/stop or tempo related actions.
There is a lag in the response. However there is an extremly long cord attached to it (approx. 4 meters).
Could this be the problem?

Hmm... I'm not aware of cable length causing a problem with this kind of cable. I don't think that's the issue. I've never shortened mine or noticed a difference with short ones or long ones. If I understand how they work correctly, they shouldn't introduce lag any more than a guitar cable would.
I'm guessing that you've got a latching pedal. Those are like physical on / off switches rather than something that sends a quick pulse when you hit it (a momentary pedal). I can see why that would make start/stop or tempo a problem. I could also see it introducing what would seem like lag in some situations.
If you experiment with different combinations of min/max (flipping the two values) and Moment/Toggle on each button assignment, you should be able to find a combination that works. Try that and see and let me know.
A couple other things to keep in mind...
1) You can assign Play / Stop, but NOT Record functions to an external pedal.
2) If you just need a Tap Tempo button, any of the Stop buttons function as Tap Tempo buttons without any programming.

The lag is very minimal but it's there. Enough to make it unworkable for time-crucial operations. Other than that it works fine.

Another thing to consider is that I believe some pedals send the signal when you lift your foot back up (not when you first press it down). So don't hold it down for long when you press. That could be where the lag is coming from.
Oke, it seems the lag is indeed from the way it depresses! It's different from the Rc-300 so it takes some getting used to i guess. I did shorten the cable too. Thanks!
Andy Ronde glad you got it figured out. You may be able to modify it to work the other way. I'm not sure how though. You'd have to ask around. It sounds like you have something that's "normally closed" and you want "normally open," or maybe vice versa. I could be wrong about that... anyway if you try gearslutz or another forum or subreddit and explain what's going on they may may have an answer for you.
Hi can you please help me assign the FX button to clear all tracks.
I don't use the inbuilt effects so at the moment I am not using this button for anything and since the boss rc 300 doesn't have a delete all button it would be cool to set this one up to do so.
Sure. Follow the process in the video and make three assigns:
1) Source: FX. Target: Track1 Clear.
2) Source: FX. Target: Track2 Clear.
3) Source: FX. Target: Track3 Clear.
Also, hit the Sys button and scroll through the options and make sure that Loop FX is set to ASGN. Otherwise it will probably turn effects on and off at the same time.
When you're done name the patch and use the "write" trick in the video to make copies of the patch if you don't want to have to keep repeating the same settings.

Sorry, I don't really have time. Just use the instructions in the video to make the Assigns. That's what it's for. As for the FX thing check out page 32 of the manual. Just hit the Sys button, hit the arrow button until it says Loop FX Pedal and then turn the dial until it says ASSIGN and then hit write a couple times. That's really it.
I'm curious. What is the point of hitting the write button several times? Is there a way to set up an external foot switch to just always do this?

+Ilie Faneata No, that pedal won't work. the joyo pxl4 is for organizing your stomp boxes. It turns them on and off. It doesn't send any messages the RC300 will understand.

Yup, it can. The FCB1010 can be programmed send MIDI CC messages. Many functions of the RC-300 can be activated via CC messages and assigns, giving you up to 8 programmable functions.

D L Yeah, no computer needed. FCB1010 can be set to send MIDI CC messages when you hit buttons. Then you program the RC300 to use that CC# as an Assign "Source" to do something.
hi,quick question.if i press record on a track and record say a 4 bar recording and press the pedal again to stop recording at say a miliisecond before the end of the final bar will it know that and quantise the start of the next loop at 4 bars and not just before 4 bars?(that make sense lol?)
if i tell it to only record 4 bars then it will automatically start the loop once 4 bars are recorded which is great but say i dont know how many bars i want to record.
a bad scenario would be playing a riff,its 2 bars long,i press record and play the riff,i press to stop record at the end of the 2nd bar but due to timing its slightly off and with those 2 bars playing over and over without any quantise the millisecond gap or added amount would add up and make it of sync with other stuff ive got playing.
Hi Peter. Yeah your question makes sense. You have 3 options for quantizing.
1) Predefine the number of bars, like you mentioned. This works great, but like you said, only if you know in advance how many loops you want.
2) If you have the drum machine off, the RC300 will guess your tempo when you make your first loop. If you want, you can set the other loops to follow it, so things won't drift.
3) This is the best option in my opinion. If you have the drum machine on, it will quantize for you. Even if you hit couple whole beats early it will wait until the nearest bar to cut it off. Even if you don't want to hear the drum machine, you can use it this way by keeping the drum machine on but turning the volume down to zero. Just be sure to tap your tempo first. This is what I like to do 95% of the time.

You can set the tempo in advance if the drum machine is on. So keep it on, and then if you don't want to hear it, just set the volume to zero (this is different than having it off, which would engage option 2 from my previous post, which will mess with your tempos).
Yeah, you can slave your external synth and drum machine to the RC300's MIDI. When you hit play on the RC300 it will send a MIDI Start. You don't have to do anything too special to get that working. Just get your external gear plugged into the RC300's MIDI OUT jack and make sure your external gear is receiving on the proper channels. There's some MIDI settings for the RC300 under the System menu also (typical stuff... transmit and receive channels, etc).

looping along with yaself is fine if loops are slightly longer or shorter than 4 beats etc,playing along to a drum machine thats synced to other synths etc i need the looper to stay in time.
im currently using 2 x korg kaoss pads which work great,i set the tempo but have to select in advance how many beats i want,they stay in time because of that which is good but sometimes i require more than the max 16 beats
Do your KAOSS Pads do MIDI sync? Some do and some don't. If they do, slave them to the RC300 and they won't drift. If they don't, some drift is inevitable.
can you assign effects to individual loops? I would like (for example) to assign slicer to channel 1, and chorus to channel 2. I cant find a tutorial online that discusses that.
Kind of. You can only use one effect at the same time. You can set it to affect the input (in which case it will be recorded to the loop, and then you could use a different effect if desired). You can also set it to any Track, or to your outputs. Let me know if that makes sense or if you need more detailed instructions.
OK got it, thanks for that. One more thing that I cant get right. I want to be able to hear the desired effect as I play. If I have loops running on tracks 1 and 2, track 3 has delay assigned (for example) how do I set the looper to reflect that? Thanks again.

I think the best way to do that would be to assign the effect to INPUT. That way, whatever you play into the looper will have the effect right away as you play, and will also be recorded onto the loop. Just remember to turn the effect on and off depending on what you're recording at the time.
***** thanks for helping out, every bit of advice has been spot on. OK next question (sorry about this) I have two Boss FS-SUs pedals. The owners manual (which I downloaded onto my iPad) specifies using a Stereo 1/4" splitter cable. Are the pedals in your video (I think Behringers) using the same type of cable (red output from one, white output from the other) If so is there a specific part number? Thanks again.
The idea is there's two signals (one from each button) traveling on a stereo cable (one on each channel, L and R). In the case of my model, that means one stereo cable (which is build into the unit) plugged into one stereo jack.
With yours, you need to combine two mono signals into one stereo cable, thus the Stereo Splitter cable (used in reverse a splitter cable is a combiner cable ;).
I haven't had to do this myself since my model has the stereo cable built in, but I'm fairly certain if you search "Hosa Cable STP203 TRS To Dual 1/4 Inch Insert Cable" on amazon you will get the right part. This is the one commonly sold along with your unit, and 50 frenchman can't be wrong, right?
You probably want to double check before you buy (I could be wrong) but I'm pretty certain that's what you need.

Yes. You could use 3 Assigns to assign the FX button Source to Track 1 Clear, Track 2 Clear, and Track 3 clear Targets.
Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what would happen if you did this while the Tracks were currently playing, but I'm pretty sure any rhythm backing would stop.
Alternatively, here's a quick trick to do this without using any assigns at all. Carefully step on the Memory wheel and rotate it one click in one direction, and then one click back. That will clear anything you didn't save with a "Write" function. You may or may not need to stop all the tracks first... not sure.
Also, I'm not sure off the top of my head, but holding down (not just pressing, but holding) the All Start / Stop pedal might clear them all. I know that holding Stop on the individual Tracks will clear them.
Hope that helps and gives you some good options.

Also, unless you want that button to also turn effects on and off, hit the System button and set the "Loop FX Pedal" option to "Assign." You may be able to do that per patch by hitting the Memory button as well... can't remember.

Kinda.
All Start / Stop is one function that will alternate. So you could add it to both buttons of a dual pedal, and nothing would be stopping you from using them that way, but both buttons would be doing the same thing.

Hi Fabio. I'm not quire sure I understand your question. The RC-300 has its own delay effect that can be synced. You can use the Stop buttons as tap tempo, or the little tap tempo button, or you can program a CTL to do it via assigns.

Hi! Thanks for your response. Yes you can assign tempo with different manners, but it only regards to saved loops and not for the delay tempo to the input, that can control tempo also when the loop is playing.
You can assign a control button to a Tap Tempo target and control the tempo of the RC-300. That will change the tempo of the delay as well, even if you aren't looping.
You can also change the tempo in this manner after you've recorded a loop (even if it's currently playing).

Yeah. You can set the effects to effect the loop, the unit, or the input (whatever is being played currently, regardless of whether it is being looped). Those tempos are basically always going to be the same.
Hey Brad. Please would you be so kind to help me out. I`ve got an issue with the UNDO/REDO function. I just bought an FS6 dualswitch, asigned the function to one of the footswitches but when I push it, it doesn`t "undo" the track right away instead I have to wait a few seconds until it clears the last track like usualy without the fs6 [which kinda beats the purpouse imo]. Is there a way to make it stop the track imidiately, and then play it immidiately again when you "redo" it? Any help is appreciated.
Hi Gavin. The Undo / Redo function unfortunately takes a second or two to be activated on the RC-300. This is one of very few disadvantages compared to the RC-50, which does not have that delay. Using an assign DOES cut the time in half, though... otherwise you have to hold a Track pedal for a couple seconds, THEN wait the couple seconds for the Undo to do its thing. If you need to remove and re-insert things instantly, I would suggest stopping and starting one of your Track layers using a Multi patch.

However what I wanted/expected my fs pedal to do is forexample - i play a guitar riff, then play the bass over it on the 2nd layer [same track]. i need to undo the last recording [in this case the bass] right away with a single hit of the fs pedal and reinsert the same thing instantly when pressing again [no matter if single t.p. is on or off]. Do you know of a way to do that? The 2 second wait is just killing me:(

Yeah, that delay is annoying. Basically you have 5 options. None are ideal. Here goes.
1) Live with the delay (since it plays through the delay, you can hit the undo button early and nail it with a little practice. Annoying, but it works).
2) Use separate Tracks for this instead of the undo function.
3) Try an RC-50. While the RC-50 is lacking several features compared to the RC-300, and has some annoying glitches of its own, it does not have this particular problem. You could even link it to your 300 if you want.
4) Likewise, a second RC-300 linked to yours with Single Track OFF would give you a lot of extra Tracks to play with.
5) Option 5 is sort of complicated and requires external equipment.
Basically, a little known fact about the RC-300 (or RC-50) is that if you are in Stereo mode, stuff input into the INS L jack only comes out of the MAIN L jack. Ditto for the Corresponding R jacks. This means that you could use external equipment to route those 2 outputs differently. If your bass and guitar are plugged into INS L and R, you could use other equipment to mute and unmute just the L or R output, and sort of get an extra "undo" that way.
So for example, your chain could look something like this:
Set to Stereo.
Bass ----> INS R ----> (Track 1 Record) ---> Main R Out (this will be Bass only) ---> Muter, A/B switch, or some other device capable of cutting off signal ---> Amplification
Guitar ---> INS L ---> (Track 1 Record) ---> Main L Out (this will be Guitar only) ---> Muter, A/B switch, or some other device capable of cutting off signal ---> Amplification
This method has some drawbacks, too, but might do what you need.

GioMusic Yeah, totally. However it's not really needed. If you need a Tap Tempo button, the Stop buttons all double as Tap Tempo buttons.
If you want to switch between specific tempos, follow the instructions in the video and make Tap Tempo your Target with Toggle selected and your specific Min / Max values. You can also use the expression pedal to move between values.

GioMusic I certainly would. Single track mode is usually the way to go for a song with different parts. Multi is good if you want to be able to play the parts at the same time.

You can send Midi Clock to other devices easily, but it can only be slaved effectively to another RC-300.
As long as you don't mind the RC-300 being the master the Maschine shouldn't give you too much trouble as hardware to hardware seems to work best.
Going from the RC-300 to software like Ableton can be done but people have reported various difficulties. Haven't tried myself.
Some have also used the trick of syncing a tap-tempo button to the RC-300 and something else at the same time to make it a pseudo-slave even though it can't connect directly.
Try searching the looper section of the vguitar forums for more info. I hang out there.

I bought a behringer pedal. I wanted to remote 2 of the track channels to the floor so I could control the RC300 unit on a stand without squating down. I t would not let me record. Just start stop, undo redo. OH well.
Yeah record isn't one of the assignable functions unfortunately. If you want to use your hands a lot you could try putting the unit at waist level, or looking into a 505. The 505 is meant primarily for hand use but I think you can assign record to floor pedals (don't quote me on that though... look into it first if you want to go that route).

The 202, 505 have way more things than I want. The suggested foot pedal bar, for them is monstrous. Pulled the bottom off the RC 300. Found the PC boards are very fragile looking. But am still considering a tandem wiring of a behringer to each channel. 3 additional duel jacks would probably be better, and I could abandon the extra pedals if it doesn't work out. If i get brave enough to do that , I will post you my results. Thanks again for your posts on the issue.
@@stewartdegner260 No problem. Yeah if you go for it, please to post your results. Cool idea. The 505 has a single jack for CTL pedals just like the RC 300's two. It probably suggests a larger Midi pedalboard if you need more than that, yeah. But smaller ones do exist. Any Midi pedalboard that sends CC messages will work. With the RC it won't solve that problem though. Good luck!
thank you for the video, I need some help. I am trying to assign beatbuddy styles to specific looper tracks. Looper is the master, I have that all hooked and working great, BUT ... I want, when I go to track #1, I get rock even, track 2 = rock shuffle, track 3 = track 4 = 6/8, track 5= 12/8 etc. ... track 11= jazz swing, track 12= jazz fast ... etc ... track 21=latin etc..... how do I assign them so that those styles come up automatically ... thank you. and I am more than happy to compensation $$ for your time helping me. 413 454 2002 ... z
