    I love to wait until a grocery store marks their bananas way down because they are brown. Once I took 3 pounds to the checkout counter and asked how much for the brown bananas. They gave them to me for free. Score! My only problem is not always enough freezer space. By the way when freezing them whole, just thaw, cut off one end and squeeze out the banana. Great for baking! For cold drinks like protein shakes, I want frozen ones, so I peel and cut like your method #2. Thanks for your video. I’m always up for a new trick. 😊

I really do love this trick because I am a banana freak and I eat them at least once to twice a week and I always make banana bread if we have extra bananas and I like my bananas really bright and yellow and my boyfriend likes them with a little bit a few brown spots on them but nonetheless this is a great way to save them thank you so much for sharing!! Fun fact ~ my boyfriend actually works for a place where they have too many overstock of fruits and vegetables and he just came home with at least 30 to 40 bananas the other day! Definitely going to go with the third trick because I want to be able to use them multi purposely! 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌

  • @matthewstovall8536

    I was wondering at what stage you like to throw them in the freezer. If they’re green is that too early? I normally just freeze the left over ones but I’ve been making more smoothies and would like to stockpile. Do you like to wait for a few brown spots? I’ve heard green are more fibrous and yellow have more sugar.

    • @TheRecipeRebel
      @TheRecipeRebel  2 года назад +2

      You could do it at any time you like but I usually wait until they are starting to go brown, just because that's when no one in my house will eat them anymore :)

    @Laura3235 2 года назад +6

    I cut up a lot of banana chunks and froze them in a baggie for later. I didn't know about flash freezing them first though. (Before watching this) Is that why my chunks look dark and gross in the freezer now? Are the chunks supposed to stay light when frozen? I'm afraid these would make my smoothies slimy. I don't know why I keep failing at this. I really need to master this. 🤞

    • @TheRecipeRebel
      @TheRecipeRebel  2 года назад +3

      They will stay light in colour for some time but they will darken the longer they sit. They are still safe to eat but just don't look as appealing :)

  • @brittanyw.436
    @brittanyw.436 Год назад +1

    Ahhh, I'm new to baking and I wanted to save some perfectly ripe bananas to use for banana bread so I tossed the bananas, unpeeled, into a freezer bag and into the freezer. When I took them out a few days later the peels were very brown (browner than yours) and after thawing and peeling they were super mushy but still yellow. I didn't trust it and tossed them. Question, when you freeze them unpeeled do you not put them in a freezer bag?

    • @TheRecipeRebel
      @TheRecipeRebel  Год назад +5

      That is totally fine! They will be dark brown-black after freezing. I mostly freeze in chunks for smoothies and in the peels for baking. When I want to use them for baking, I just thaw in the peel and squeeze out. They will be super mushy, but they're great for baking.

  • @vogie2358
    @vogie2358 3 года назад +3

    I have a question. (sorry for my language) If you keep them long in the freezer, will they have more calories than the usual banana? It may sound stupid but I know that dry bananas have more calories than the normal ones, so, does the calories change if I freeze one and use it like 2-3 weeks later for a smoothie or smth?

    • @TheRecipeRebel
      @TheRecipeRebel  3 года назад +5

      I'm not a nutrition expert so I can't really say for sure. I would expect that it would stay at whatever calorie amount they had when you put them in the freezer
