- See what the dinner buffet food was like on a Carnival cruise! We take you on a tour of the Lido Marketplace at night, and show you what type of dishes you can expect from a typical 7 night cruise. Some of our favorites included the fried shrimp, prime rib, roasted turkey, and vegetarian enchilada. These were from our March 2022 Western Caribbean on the Carnival Vista sailing out of Galveston, Texas.

That's a spot-on observation. I think for dinner because cruise lines have the main dining room dinner (while MDR lunch only happens on sea days), the dinner buffet may have fewer choices.

Carving meat on a metal platter is extremely challenging but either the knife is dull or that roast beef is tough… or both. Night #1 especially.
You're right- if I remember correctly, that beef was kind of tough.
Those desserts look so delicious I wish they sold them and some of the stores here I would like to try each and everyone of them they all looked so delicious
Yeah sometimes we wish the cruise lines would have some sort of cruise-food-on-land restaurant concept!
I would go on the cruise for the activies and stay on the boat because I would be afaid I would miss the boat, the food looks sooo good.
You have company for sure! There are some who don't get off the ship on the port days & they kind of have public areas all to themselves 🙂

We are cruising first time in years for my birthday in November. This food looks very good. I just read today of Carnival doing away with several food perks/choices today. I hope there is still a decent variety available. They are doing away with nighttime snacks buffet and adding some things to the pizza station. The only late night option. I do not like pizza and am a real nightowl. I also hear the lines at the pizza station are huge late at night. Not a big fan of the room service menu. So sad no more chocolate extraveganza or tea time on seadays. Also seaday brunch only till 12noon. I might bring a pastry back in the morning for my nighttime snack. Also loved leaving the card for breakfast and getting coffee toast and fruit in the morning. My son although almost middle age loves cereal. He would eat cereal on excursion days. Will really miss that. You supposedly can call for room service but it is said to be already overburdened. Imagine everyone calling for their coffee on the balcony. I remember in the good old days we had a lobster midnight buffet. I hope we still have lobster one night. If not I will have in a specialty restaurant. I would change from Carnival but we are too locked into the dates even though cruise not booked yet. Will just enjoy all that I can and spending time with family.
Yes you're right- the pizza lines were super long, and that was when they still had the late night buffet. Lobster night should still be intact for 7 night and longer cruises. For us it was on like the 2nd or third day of the cruise which was interesting. Wow lobster buffet at midnight- those were the days! Have a wonderful cruise! 🙂
The Lido Buffet video you did on HAL had much better quality food, presentation and staff service. Am deciding to do our future Italy cruise Transatlantic mostly because they have sushi in the Lido each day. And smoked salmon. And lots of lamb carving station often. And great looking desserts. And chocolate chip cookies. Yep. Going HAL next time.
For sure HAL has a much better buffet than Carnival. Carnival does have some really good casual eateries, but HAL does as well. So yeah give HAL a try and we'd love to hear how it went!
As with the dining room we've found that the quality and taste of the food is not consistent. It seems that the seasoning of the prepared food often is less than adequate. They seem to do their best on soups and desserts.

Carnival is a second rate cruise line at best. I’m glad you had a nice time, but I’d never book with them.
If you want your beef more well done at the carving station will they brown it for you?
What they'll usually do is cut a part that's more well-done, but if it's still not well-done enough they will bring you some out from the back.
VISTA IS BROKEN - BUYERS BEWARE
1. 3 ½ hour embarkation - standing on your feet in the sun in long line with bags
2. No food onboard upon embarkation
3. No instructions for muster
4. Safety briefing provided while guests are mustering - hence only half of the passengers get to hear them
5. Standing in line for 33 minutes to get 2 spoons of food
6. Food Manager Vikas Beri is Missing in Action
7. Location of life vest in case of an emergency not provided
8. Broken equipment on board - lied about skyride
9. The Vista is permanently broken due to an accelerator issue and is scheduled to be repaired on dry dock in August. In the meantime, driven by corporate greed Carnival is operating a broken ship that is unable to cruise at optimal cruising speed of 24 nautical miles/hour. Maximum speed is barely 17 nautical miles/hour. As a result the ship docks late at every port and hours available at each port have been drastically cut down at the last minute. No more than 5 hours at each port, late embarkation and disembarkation week after week.
10. Ship arrived late and we could only start disembarkation past 11 am resulting in flight changes and extreme delays getting home.
11. Disabled Vista is being operated on a late schedule knowingly and deceitfully week after week
12. On board entertainment consists of 7 moderate at best performers that put on random and unplanned shows 4 nights - same group, no variety very underwhelming.
13. No auditorium with theatre seating…....just flat seating ...Tiny Liquid Lounge with a complete mess…..capacity of less than 800 guests in a ship with 4000+ guests.....long lines and arguments just to get a decent seat starting 30 mins before the show. Shows cannot be booked in advance!
14. Horrible food service - Food Manager Vikas Beri completely unresponsive, MIA and will not get back to the guest despite multiple calls to Guest services and messages sent to him
15. Sous Chef, Rama at their so called “high-end” Fahrenheit 555 steak restaurant responded rudely that if meat is under seasoned to use the salt and pepper shakers at the table and walked away.
16. No organization and coordination - On deck music playing at the same time movie has started…took over an hour of complaining to turn the music off.
17. Pool side movies randomly cancelled in multiple occasions without any update or notifications. Guests wait for hours and leave.
18. One area in the buffet smells disgustingly bad - no cleanliness
19. Broken water and drink dispensing stations
20. No designated smoking areas in the casino - smoking permitted in the entire casino and walkways through the casino....had to walk through the smoke-filled casino to get to the dining room each day exposing to second hand smoking and disgusting smell
21. 100% booked cruise with Carnival selling rooms at cheap throw away prices and lucrative on-board credits while understaffed with crew - Only about 1100 versus 1400
22. Restaurant closes at 9pm and refused to be seated at 9:09pm even though it is advertised to be closed at 9:30pm
23. Rude, loud and boisterous cruise director, Kyndall Fire whose only job is to be a cheer-leader
24. Simply disgusting food in the restaurants - only exception include pizza (if you are willing to stand in hour long lines) and Guy Fieri’s burgers (if you eat beef/red meat).
25. Basic amenities in the Spa broken such as non-working heated benches, water barely warm in the hot tub, etc.
26. 1 of 2 hot tubs at the adults-only Serenity section broken - hence only one hot tub available
BEWARE THE VISTA IS BROKEN. AVOID, AVOID AVOID! GREEDY CARNIVAL IS SELLING THE CABINS AT A LOW PRICE TO SOMEHOW MAY MONEY AT THE COST OF INCONVENIENCE TO GUESTS UNTIL THE SHIP IS REPAIRED IN AUGUST. STAY AWAY BUT IF DESPERATE CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE BOOKING. DISGUSTING AND UNACCEPTABLE
to add insult to the injury Carnival no longer takes calls for post-travel issues (go figure ---blame it on Covid). You can send your concerns to an email ID and you will be lucky if you get a generic response after 3 to 4 weeks. My travel agent tried calling customer service as well on my behalf but in vain. They wont connect you to an agent/live person for post-travel concerns. Once you have paid them that is it! Very disgusting and shady company.

Thanks for sharing your experience! We definitely agree with the casino smoke & the smallish Liquid Lounge theater. The lack of elevation at the lower theater level also made it difficult to see above guests in front of you. Overall we did have fun and enjoyed the cruise, but yeah hopefully Carnival can improve at least some of the shortcomings.

How can I take food to my room?
We would usually just take the plate or bowl, some utensils, maybe cover with napkin and bring back to the cabin
Penne mariscos has scallops in it, I can’t have them because I have a medical allergic reaction to them, my abdomen tightens up so bad that I can’t breathe, it’s my colon in the abdomen that hurts me so badly because they are very rubbery and tender.
Yeah that would be one to avoid- be sure to let your travel agent and once on the ship the crew members know about your allergy.
Prime Rib..not tender?...remember what cruise line you are on!

Thanks for the comment! Yup Celebrity's buffet is certain better. We haven't tried Seaborne but imagine it'd be much better than this buffet. Carnival does have many other casual eateries, especially for lunch, that have pretty tasty food.
The quality of the food was not that great.
Everyone puts their hands all over the tongs...then they put the tongs back in the middle of the dish.....there has to be a better way....?...
