  • Checkout what food Holland America serves for dinner at its buffet restaurant Lido Market! Menus for different sections of the buffet are included. These were from our January 2022 cruise aboard the HAL Nieuw Statendam. Overall we were very impressed with Holland America's dinner buffet food. It was nice to see that HAL didn't cut back on their food quality, as there were many premium items such as filet mignon, shrimp tempura and even half lobster tails, which is rare to see at a all-you-can-eat cruise ship buffet nowadays. All the food shown in the video are INCLUDED with your cruise fare.
    Be sure to watch our other Holland America food videos (ruclips.net/user/playlist?list..., as well as the ones from our Nieuw Statendam cruise ( • Holland America Nieuw ... ) as well!

    Holland American is my cruise line of choice, done cruises on a few others and Holland America is much better. We are now on 17 cruises On Holland and love the service we receive on board. We have dined in the main dining room only a few times, takes too long and we really enjoy the variety of the Lido Buffet. There are so many selections you always find something you like. The salad bar .... OH the salad bar we absolutely love and have 2-3 salads a day ( they are that good ) The pasta bar is always a great selection and made to order. We also dine at some of the specialty restaurants on board, but the Lido is fantastic. There are other places such as the Dive in for Nathans hot dogs and burgers, pizza served on the forward pool deck and then you also have room service if you might want a snack. Holland America is a great line and its a pleasure every time we board.

      Agree 100%! Yes the salad bar is one of our HAL favorites as well, and their snack offerings are superb just like the rest of their buffet & MDR food. Thanks for the comment!

      @@TravelTouristVideos Disagree 100 per cent. Soup alwayslukewarm. Remember sending it back twice to get it heated, Finally the "chef" showed up. Asked him if he had a microwave in his kitchen. 2 minutes would do.
      Even worse in the dining room Soup consisted of a few dried pieces in the bottom of a cold bowl. Then the server would show up with some broth which had been poured into a cold pitcher. That was then poured into your cold soup bowl and that was the soup served that day. Sad.

    Like usual a great video. I think that the two most impressive things was the variety of Caribbean dishes as well as the various Asian cuisines. I have to admit that with the exception of a couple of the top Las Vegas buffers, that was the best buffet that I have seen. Have you ever considered doing a food video featuring your son and his opinions on the cruise food. I have been doing a lot of HiHo style food tastings with my nephews, nieces and cousins aged 5-12 and I have always been amazed at the differences between how they react to foods versus the adults in the room. I will have to look at HAL down the road.

    Hello again and thanks for your time and effort creating another excellent video! I keep getting interrupted by work, but I priced some of the locations/resorts and they were very economical, so THANK YOU for giving me options. I have a question for you, on Embarkation day, do they serve breakfast buffet or MDR, Seaday Brunch... We will be in port, is it port day menu, we leave port, is it sea day menu. One day has me stumped LOL

    • @TravelTouristVideos
      @TravelTouristVideos  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! 😊 On embarkation the breakfast buffet is only for the guests disembarking that day, and is usually over by 9 AM, so nope no buffet breakfast on boarding day. Some cruise lines used to have MDR lunch on embarkation day, but from what we've observed it seems like that is no longer an option unless you are staying in a suite. But the lunch buffet is definitely the most popular option, so it will be pretty busy. Other lunch options for boarding day usually include fast food burgers, pizzas, Mexican food & sandwiches. Hope that helps!

    • @TravelTouristVideos
      @TravelTouristVideos  Год назад +1

      That's a great question! For the fastest service, we recommend you go to the main dining room a few minutes before it opens for dinner- that's when it's not as crowded. Then afterwards let's say you want to eat some extra fruit, veggies, or just curious what the buffet has for the night, then you'd have plenty of time to check it out before it closes. On Holland America ships the buffet closes kind of early for dinner- usually at around 8:30 PM.

    That overcooked steak was massive. Same with the salmon portion. The whole reason I enjoy buffets is that I can take a tiny little bite-sized portion and try many things. And I don't like food waste, so I'm not going to take two bites and throw a steak away, so the huge portions really take away from the experience for me (I prefer serving myself for the same reason). Presentation may also be less exciting because it's set up for the staff to dole out whereas a buffet is often laid out to look like a crazy beautiful feast. I was looking for a Holland America cruise in my research but I've chosen an RCL one now. Thanks for your videos, they've helped a lot! You make everything look so good but also I like how you were honest about that crepe. I could tell even when he made it - didn't spread it out enough and didn't cook it enough to get any browning. Whilst I found the diversity of food very satisfying; there was a heck of lot of vegetarian dishes which I would say fair enough however; the bulk of the food were sugarless. I cannot consume aspartame sweeteners, saccharin or any form of artificial sweeteners. I much prefer sugar, which I add to my tea or coffees. Incidentally, were the restaurants you ate at on board available for breakfast lunch and dinner (wasn't sure if you also said there was supper after 10pm) and if the former were case; could passengers have breakfast in one cafe; lunch in another and dinner in the third restaurant, and are the costs of the meals included in the ship board fare? Just one further question please. Are tips and gratuities extra as they are on Cunard ships, or are they inclusive as on P & O Ships. Thank you for sharing.

      The buffet is available for breakfast, lunch & dinner, while the main dining room is available for breakfast & dinner, though also for lunch during sea days. From 10:30 to 11:30 PM there is late night snack buffet. All the food you see in our videos are INCLUDED with your cruise fare, unless specifically indicated otherwise (i.e. specialty restaurants). Tips on Holland America is $15.50 daily per person, and a little higher for suites. Thanks for watching & please let me know if you have any other questions! 🙂

      @@TravelTouristVideos Thank you kindly for your prompt and succinct response. I most certainly will look into cruising with Holland America. Oh sorry there are just a couple of quick questions if you do not mind) 1. Would you know if Holland America run tours from Australia (I know I could not get any information from P & O regarding the departure and destination points for their ship "IONA" I know Cunard at times do depart Australia however; Fort Knox declined my application for a loan to pay for the fares. 2. Is the $15.50 per person per day all inclusive (by that I mean tipping for food and cabin stewards), and most likely the currency quoted is in US$? Oh yes; there is but one more question; do you require a "PENGUIN" suit to attend the restaurants as they do on Cunard? Many thanks again for your kind response.

      Anytime! It looks like HAL will do cruises in Australia starting in November this year with the Westerdam & Noordam cruise ships. And yes the $15.50 includes the gratuity for all crew members, though you can always tip extra via cash for exceptional service (we usually do that for our room stewards). The dress code is way less strict than Cunard's formal nights. You're fine with a sports jacket & a collared shirt & slacks.

      I also can not have any artificial sweeteners, they give me migraines. It has become a trend to use these instead of sugar. I guess their thought is that anyone can eat it but that is not the case. I also noticed when watching these videos, that they put carrots in almost all of the dishes. I know they are a cheap filler, but it is not necessary to have them in the majority of the dishes.

      You (or your travel agent) would have to let Holland America know 90 days before your cruise so they can order the kosher food for you. You can call their Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 (or email: hal_ship_services@hollandamerica.com).

    While the selection was commendable, most of the food looked tired. Most of the items, if cooked freshly and served right away, would be sensational, but this food sits around for ages until it all tastes the same. When I cruise, I always eat at the premium or specialty restaurants. I usually have room service breakfasts.
