Holland America Breakfast Main Dining Menu & Food

- See what Holland America's main dining room breakfast menu and food look like, plus reviews of some of the entrees. Breakfast is served daily at the MDR on sea days from 8 AM to 9:30 AM, and on port days from 7 AM to 8:30 AM. Here things are usually less hectic than the Lido Marketplace buffet, and the food comes out pretty fast, though the buffet may be a better choice if you want a quick bite. All the food and drinks in the video are complimentary, included with your cruise fare. It was nice to see quite a few gluten-free and vegetarian dishes as well.
These were from our July 2023 cruises on HAL Nieuw Statendam. Watch more of our Holland America food videos via this playlist:

No dumb graphics or annoying theatrics. Just full focus on food. Another very helpful video, I appreciate this.
Happy to hear that it's helpful- thank you very much for the comment! 😊
I love you reviews of food. You describe flavors and textures so well.
Thank you very much! ☺️
Thank you for letting us read the menu, great video, have a lovely weekend.
Our pleasure- thank you very much for the comment! 😊 Have a good one!
The Benedict had me cracking up. You tried so hard "not to say you didn't like it"!. Great attention to detail when describing food! Good honest reviews. Keep up the good job.
Will do- glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the comment! 😊
love your honesty.
Thank you! 🙂
I love how you describe each plate of delicious food, the texture and taste. Well done another fantastic video 😊😊
Thank you very much! 😊
Loved this video. Everything looked so good! We have found Holland America’s food presentation to be excellent. They take care in arranging the plates and we appreciate that. Joanne’s reviews are fun too. Her face is very “telling”when she takes a bite and “doesn’t approve”. I like it when she gently pushes the plate away and just smiles. Thank you for the HAL MDR breakfast review. Might be on a HAL ship soon…….
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you very much for the comment Sally! 😊 Look forward to hearing about your HAL cruise if you do go!
Hi y'all I enjoyed this review! The foods I would have ordered are American breakfast, corned beef hash and poached eggs and also the eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon yummy ❤ Take care...till next time ✌🏾
Thanks Tee! Nice choices- sounds like a tasty start to the day for sure! 😋
I was in a Neptune Suite on the Koningsdam which is the first Pinnacle class ship like the Nieuw Statendam. The Neptune Suite included Club Orange benefits so we dined at the Club Orange (which had an expanded menu) instead of the Main Dining Room. Anyhow, the wait staff recommended adding miso soup to the Asian Congee and that was delicious. So I had that on most days for breakfast.
I normally do congee with two poach eggs daily and lots of coffee. Lol
Best class of rooms on HAL. Thanks for sharing
Didn't try that but it sounds like a tasty combo adding the miso soup to the congee! 😋
I can't wait to order french toast, we'll be on the Alaska ship. Great video
French toast yes! 😋 Have a wonderful cruise!
Generally, we hit the buffet everyday for breakfast ... except on Holland America. We like the phenomenal variety of breakfast options and over the course of one week, we tried ALL of the international breakfasts. Our favorites were the Pan Asian (best fish ever), the English breakfast, and teh Indian breakfast.
Yes that pan-Asian breakfast with the salmon and miso soup- really excellent! 😋
Good morning! I’ll take the Croissant & bread pudding, Lobster Benedict, Corned beef hash & eggs, Swedish pancakes, then the Forest mushroom eggs Benedict, the passion fruit yogurt with chia seeds and mango chunks, Belgian waffles with strawberries and *extra* whipped cream please. After that, I’ll go with the pan-Asian breakfast, the kippered herring & eggs, the European cold plate breakfast, buttermilk pancakes, and coffee, please!
Nice! Lobster benedict does cost extra, but sounds really good.
Salmon is my favorite fish!
The dish with the salmon was excellent! 😋
Joann, I prefer to not eat chicken on my cruise because God knows we eat a lot of chicken at home.
Holland America Line was Carnival’s first major acquisition, back in January of 1989 for $625 million.
One of their best brands IMO
I enjoy your videos very much. Very informative.
Happy to hear that they're helpful! Thank you very much for the comment! 😊
all looked very inviting. i would enjoy these offerings. i enjoy hash and their hash looked different as molded in a hockey puck. some of the items looked small portioned on the plate.
A lot of good offerings for sure! Some were a little small, but you can order multiples.
Your food review videos are the best! I am especially excited to see the Holland American content. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 😊 A lot more updated HAL food videos to come! 🙂
Great video....look forward to seeing more ..😋
Yay! Thank you Vickie- more to come soon! 🙂
Very helpful video!
Thank you very much! 😊
This video is wonderful. As always you did a great job. It looks like Holland America does a better job of gluten free options than some other cruise lines. Since I have celiac disease it's important to me to have choices rather than just the basics.. Now if they can whip up some gluten free pancaskes or crepes in November on our transAtlantic cruise I'll give them an 'excellent'!
Thank you so much! 😊 Yes they had quite a few gluten-free offerings, though didn't see any ones for pancakes or crepes. They might have it if you ask for them though- for instance for MDR dinner you can ask for gluten-free dessert and they can bring you an off-the-menu crème brûlée.
I will try that! Maybe if I brought along a gluten-free pancake mix, if they allow it, they could whip that up for me,
I'm not so sure if they'd use your pancake mix, but would love to hear if they did or not if you do bring it. Have a wonderful cruise!
We have a cruise coming up on Nieuw Amsterdam in January. I'm sure all Holland American lines will have pretty close to, if not the same menu items. You did a great job giving us a good idea what breakfast options we'll most likely see. She (sorry don't know her name) really makes the food look so delicious! Thank you for a great review!
Thank you very much! 😊 Joann enjoyed most of those dishes. Have a wonderful cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam- gonna have a lot of good food!
Good review!
Thank you very much! 🙂
Thanks
Our pleasure!
Poached eggs are a test of any kitchen, but I think it’s important that all components be at the correct temps.
Also that breakfast pancakes, waffles not be made so sweet that it’s a dessert unless that’s the intention
Great points- thanks for the comment!
I’m guessing the miso soup was made with red miso. The typical white miso wouldn’t get dark red like that even concentrated.
You're probably right!
I cant Wait to see the other videos 😳😍
Did you get some LifeBoats too? :p
Yup sure did- in fact our cabin was a partially obstructed (by lifeboats) balcony stateroom!
@@TravelTouristVideos Omg did you take a long video? 👀
Not super long but many clips!
French toast looks awesome!! Why do all cruise lines do that cheap hashbrown triangle patty??
Yes that Texas French Toast was really good! 😋
Hi guys!
Hi Angela- thanks for the comments! 😊 Have you gone on your Carnival cruise yet?
@@TravelTouristVideos we head to New Orleans on August 25th to stay at the Drury Plaza hotel and leave the 26th. I’m looking forward to a great coffee from the Java Cafe’.
Thanks for the video! May I ask are those scramble eggs fresh real eggs? Or taste like fake eggs? Thanks
Our pleasure! 😊 The eggs tasted like real eggs, though I'm not sure if it's 100% all eggs in the mixture they use for scramble eggs and omelets. If you want to be sure, at the buffet egg station, you can request the actual eggs to be made anyway you want.
@@TravelTouristVideosMost operations use pasteurized liquid eggs at the recommendation oh state health authorities to reduce the risk of Salmonella poisoning. When I started in the business, they would use a machine to separate the eggs from the shell but that practice was abandoned.
Many claim that cruise lines use powdered eggs but in my experience, that has been limited to military usage and usage in dry mixes.
I would be a boring food traveler. I would eat the eggs Benedict every time. I have never had it but it calls to me.
They had good ones, and 3 different varieties as well.
Do you find Holland America’s food the best of any cruise line?
It's subjective, but we do think they have some of the best if not the best food overall when you look at the buffet, main dining, and other eateries they have.
Are the menus the same from one HA ship to the other?
They sure are, though there may be a few variations based on the region of the cruise.
Is the chocolate milk real chocolate milk? Or, is it a low-fat or fat-free artificial imitation substitute?
That's a good question- not sure but have a feeling that it's the latter.
@@TravelTouristVideos Thank you for your honesty! It's not a deal breaker if they don't offer it. But, I will ask before booking as I like it. And, I can usually get it (and sometimes really good ones) on my on-land vacations.
@johnpinckney4979 You bet- let me know what you find out! It may depend on the region of the sailing impacting where they'd get their chocolate milk from.
Do you guys just live on cruise ships?
Lol not quite. On this cruise we've met quite a few other folks who literally spend months in a row on cruises!
Why are eggs vegetarian ???
WOW I never got a runny egg on holland am before☹☹
She complains too much
