are there people NOT impressed by 2D mech animation??? because jesus christ have you seen how complex that shit is??
Talented mech animators must be protected and cherished.
The origin 3d animation was quite nice though, I would object
What? I'm constantly looking for tells of CG, and all I see is CG debris.. am I crazy how can 2D look this good??
I thought 3D was the closest we would get to "Perfect mecha fights" But holy shit! I like 3D and i enjoy working with 3D but this is phenomenal
Their brains should be preserved once they've passed away
@@fernz6026 3d animation is trash in General
When I watched Thunderbolt, I was still rooting for Io even though he was more of a villain than anything else in the ONA. It may have more to do with how I get why he is the way he is since Io is fighting against the Zeon, who were the ones that destroyed his home colony, how self-righteous Zeon as a whole acts, the hypocrisy Zeon displayed during the one year war and after, and the fact he has to fight a Zeon squadron in the remains of his home colony which is nothing more than a mass grave.
I liked him most because he didn't delude himself
Which is something to respect.
I agree he does give off the antagonist feel but at the end of the day BOTH factions have blood on thier hands, arguably zeon had more because the thunderbolt sector was an area for space colonies but they fragged it into oblivion and all that's left of it is debris and space junk floating around the sector as a reminder of what it once was.we've mostly seen through dayrl's perspective and his suffering but io had seen some shit as well, sure he's war hungry but he's the more open minded of the two, he can tell how daryl gave himself up to the pshyco zaku and he is just as guilty as the rest
Thunderbolt is a Gundamn masterpiece! Personally I'd prefer more of this to Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Nope Thunderbolt is casual watch Zeta
Sonwig zeta is overrated, yeah is good but will never be the best gundam series of all time, mainly because of the annoying characters that have in his cast (examples of this is kamile being a spoiled brat all the time, reccoa who betrayed AEUG and make a genocide just because paptimus is a hottie or katz being an obnoxious boy until he died)
But dont get me wrong, I dont like this serie but I dont hate her either, but that doesnt change to my eyes that was a great concept being poorly executed
Pd: sorry for my bad english
I love Thunderbolt and IBO equally.

Gundam Igloo is my personal favorite
I agree with you all the way thunderbolt is an incredible series and it's one of the best gundam shows out there with iron blooded orphans, unicorn, and many others
In my opinion Thunderbolt is one of the best Gundam series to date. I totally agree with your analysis. Thanks for the video!
Thunderbolt also showed how cruel that war really was, with the child soldiers and amputating limbs to make someone a better 'weapon'...
+stream What? Its just a bunch of nameless, unimportant characters being thrown into the meat grinder. i was too busy laughing at how over the top and gory it was to actually feel "bad" for any of them!
Don't get me wrong, Thunderbolt is good, but please... theirs literally dozens of faaaaaarrrr better examples of what you just said in the gundam series. I'd say thunderbolt handles it the worst.
+MrFlunkorg k
MrFlunkorg Fuck no gundam thunderbolt is good really good I'm done with these fucking kids say their fighting
And then bring in this shounen bullshit in the show ok i like my main character as a adult
You Can keep fighting is wrong shounen bullshit ok i Don't what some crying kid talking about war is bad
We all know war is bad i Don't what to keep here in that bullshit ok gundam thunderbolt is 1 of the best ok
glenroy hodge Dude, what?
MrFlunkorg what separates these characters over other series with psychic protagonists and cheery tone (despite the body counts) is how realistic they were portrayed. You have bunch of amateur kids being murdered helplessly by veteran soldiers. And how Zeon fears the Gundam. No asspull like space ghosts helping the protagonist or kids suddenly becoming a genius gundam pilot.
Thunderbolt is mind-blowingly good.If you really want a sense of war in the future then this is it.This was how soldiers felt during World War 2. Probably the best side-story for Gundam adult fans.
whoa whoa whoa, snape kills dumbledore??????
I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISH THE BOOK YET damn you canipa!
I have a dulled my senses to almost all the suffering in Gundam years a go after Zeta. Now I just want the thrill, and THUNDERBOLTS Manga gave me that thrill. Playing my own Jazz while reading. It was amazing to see it get animated especially since it's as of right now my second favorite G manga behind "Feddie Hooligans"
The show itself was amazingly animated, the music though really objective was decent Io's taste was better than Darryl's, and finally the action was some of the funnest to watch.
I'm glad Sunrise gave us Thunderbolt, and I hope soon they can give us "Feddie Hooligans" later on.
can you send a link for feddie hooligan, i wanna see it :D

This dude has been translating Gundam Mangas for awhile. Just click the link then find the other link for FH, and download.
I’m imaging u playing the saxophone while reading the manga
Best gundam series in my opinion. let's hope movie part 3/Season 3 will be released in the future as the manga itself is still ongoing with raw is at chapter 101 as I remember.
So glad you reviewed this - watched it while it steamed and my god it was an amazing experience. Cannot wait to receive my copy of the blu-ray.
The Blu Ray is damn ex for 4 episodes only
+Bandon Lim It is a Blu-Ray from Japan, that's just how much it cost there.
+Bandon Lim its re-edited into a movie
definitely up there with Macross Plus as a classic of mecha animation
Why was half of the review just explaining the setting? It felt a bit overdone in the video :p
_Thunderbolt_ happens to be one of the few _Gundam_ series I've seen this far, and it's a particularly interesting anti-war story. With stellar animation and a favoring use of music, the series is appropriately _disgusting_. I'm very happy that such a strongly unenjoyable story came out: it does have an a lot more gruesome take on the cost of war than the originally series (even though this had always been _Gundam_'s primary theme, one must not forget). I wonder how the show fits in the overall political situation of the country as a whole, though of course anti-war stories are always popular in a way.
All that space jazz!!!!
I hope they come back for a season 2 of Thunderbolt seeing that this cover about 28 chapters of the manga and there's around 60 chapters out I think a season 2 needs to happen. great review!
+Rikuson1 There's going to be a movie that's basically all the episodes together plus new scenes
Im Expecting a Season 2 announcement if the Manga Volume 8 end it or finish the earth arc for the story to continue, hell i rather watch a yearly release of thunderbolt anime following the manga than anything else now, here we have a legit badass running the show than some whiny emo shit kid, real gritty metal as fuck tech, great action scene and ITS UNIVERSAL CENTURY, what else you want ?
Errorcutive are you 12?
+Attack on Titan is actual feces whats your problem ? im not 12 btw
***** OMG 10/10, I'm gonna fucking use this! Thanks for the hilarious pasta bro!
by far the best gundam series, no newtypes, no melodramatic moments, epic jazz music, showing both sides of the story, and not showing young children piloting military mobile suits, which actually makes sense, because what responsible adult would allow that, and also very good action.
>no newtypes
>tmw s2 happened
so we won't talk about the children used as meat shields to protect the full armor ?
There was child soldiers, and it made no sense why they used them unlike in the OG series
do you even watch thunderbolt?
First video I've seen from you but you earned my subscription, great narration and explanations as well as amazing emotion and depth, I watch a lot of anime reviewers but not many earn a subscribe or a comment, keep up the good work!
I really enjoyed this review. It was very tightly scripted and edited, and it does a great job of capturing the series' appeal.
I watched Gundam since Gundam Wing first hit the US. I will day that I still watch it from time to time. That kinda began my love of the franchise in general. I ended up watching everyone one I can up to the original. On thunderbolt, I'll say that this one is complex and pretty dark in terms of showing how desperate both sides became by the end of the one year war.
Everytime someone asks me who the "good guys" are, they are upset by me answer. "Both sides and neither side"
"yes'nt"
Im relatively new to gundam. I found this movie INCREDIBLE, but was underwheled with the sequel Bandit Flower. Anychance of a review for the sequel?
This movie played to me much more like Io was the Antagonist.
I only saw about 5 minutes on RUclips and I enjoyed it I'm hoping it eventually gets licensed in the US by Right Stuff. so I eagerly look forward to watching the rest of it at some point
Its available for preorder on right stuf's website rn.
thank for the info
Question: Why is IBO music playing?
IBO music is good, but played when it should be jazz? Blasphemy.
when your series is so dark that mobilesuit gundam is considered upbeat by comparison
Please take a look how Sci-Fi anime like Yamato,Gundam and Macross changed anime in both US and Japan
Hold on, did you just say the protagonists name is Ian Fleming?
Io Fleming though I wonder if the similarity was a coincidence or on purpose.
Don't agree with the "meaningless" conflict. They did lose sight to their goal, but the goal was still meaningful. When you save someon's life , even by accident, it's still meaningful, especially if that is what you was sent there to do, then managed to do it while doing something else.
So Gundam Thunderbolt is actually a new made of the original in the 1979 ? same exact story only different graphics ?
Most Wanted More like a side story contained within already existing events
The timeframe of Gundam UC's One-Year War involved multiple fronts, with multiple plot threads on earth and in the colonies. Thunderbolt is about what was, effectively, 'the forgotten front' - the battle over the Side 4 colonies. It occurs alongside the original Gundam series, but in an area we never see during it
I thik it's alternate universe not U.C.
great review
Im glad you enjoyed Thunderbolt!
Ibo ost?
loved the this ONA series. thou a little fuzzy on the timeline as this still happen in one year war and why is the gundam just called RX-78 Full armour. Good job on the review by the way.
Lord Takkun that's exactly what the mobile suit is
Lord Takkun the actual name is the FA-78 full armor gundam
This was really REALLY good but WOW it's dark as f**K holy crap I wasn't ready or even slightly prepared for it D: WAS AWESOME THOUGH WOW :D
Loved it. This vid too 👍
The complain from me is those suits are all over designed for the era lol, some basically got more weapons than the already stretching it gundam 0080 ms-18 and nt-1. Still, technical continuity issues aside, the show is excellent.
au jack well hey, simplest and easier way to upgrade something is to just stick more shit on it.
When is season 2 available?
lol why is the music from gundam unicorn?
iron blood. it's from iron blood.
Thunderbolt is absolutely brutal
A very underrated title in the franchise
...Where did you watch this?
The link is broken, doesn't look like it is on their site anymore.
Not a trade route, a supply line
Awesome
i thought daryl was the protagonist
loved it
Damn thunderbolt reminds me of zeta bout how bad it got, i mean that shit was bleak
Bad like what?
Is Thunderbolt canon to the U.C ?
I thik it's alternate universe not U.C.
Kinda? It wasn’t made with canon in mind if that makes sense. It can definitely fit in the timeline
darkest gundam show ever!!!!!
You keep using Iron-Blooded Orphans Ost, but where the hell is the Iron-Blooded Orphans review
Iron blooded orphans is so
Ass. So many speeches so many drawn out dramatic scenes . It was horrid to get through season 1
can i watch this without seeing any other gundam stories in this timeline?
+Samuel Benton you can, the amount of confusion you could possible have is small go ahead and watch it bro
thanks
+Samuel Benton The story is relatively self-contained. Very little prior knowledge of UC is needed to enjoy this installment. The same can be said with more Gundam series.
sweet. ive only watched the new iron blood orphans and i wanted more
wait snape kills dumbledore?
Huge Gundam fan..... So you know what would i say.
best gundam
Watch Zeta...
Bruh u missed a lot they where the living dead out cast remembers of zeon
This was my first Gundamn contact ever and it was amazing, then I watched 00 which is really good but the last movie was meh.... Im trying to watch 79 but I think I wont be able, the kid piloting a super ultra secret military weapon like a pro with no training whatsoever is dumb, let me guess he will become the most badass pilot ever...
Luis Fernando Human evolution is a bitch ain't it?
I prefer gundam unicorn
It's the best Gundam and actually the only Gundam I like other then 08th MS Team.
Kuddlesworth NA why not the others like 0083 stardust memory or 0080 war in a pocket Also have you seen gundam the origin
I'm probably never gonna get into the Gundam franchise. Gundam anime come out so often that its like... "well... which one?" and I usually just end fucking off and going to watch some original IP of a series or a new season for an anime I'm already a fan of. Perhaps some day I'll see Iron Blooded Orphans since thats available on Daisuki, but the right mood will have to hit me to do so.
+Dynasty Star To be totally fair, depending upon the branch of Gundam you're looking at watching you don't actually need to watch a whole lot of others - or any. For example, Iron Blooded Orphans doesn't require previous Gundam experience to enjoy.
+Red Robin Titan Yeah, I'm aware of that, its just that the Gundam library is so daunting its like "meh, I'll just go watch Serial Experiments Lain instead"(which is an anime I need to see). I could also go and watch the original FMA which I also haven't seen, I could watch Eureka Seven which I haven't seen. Thats just a few and they're less of a headache to approach them when it comes to sheer material that I can watch. Know what I mean? xD Though I'm sure Serial Experiments Lain will be headache-inducing for other reasons(not literally, I don't get headaches THAT frequently).
just watch the first gundam series or this one (gundam thunderbolt) the rest are just a bunch of melodramatic messes.
I'd have to see if its suited to my taste. Gundam Seed is the one people who know the things that I like recommend to me.
@@dynastystar5515 I feel like if you want to get into Gundam you should find out what not to watch first
I think this is the rouge one of gundam.
Nah. the "rouge one of gundam" would probably be Operation: Stardust memory. An OVA series that shows the reason for the Earth Faction 'Titans' being created and what happened between gundam and gundam zeta.
It’s more like the 2003 Clone Wars of Gundam.
LONG LIVE BERSERK
Watch Zeta...
