@@rawar777joshanderson i just replaced mine yesterday, it took me about 3 hours. i really struggled trying to get the new alternator in there, but i rewatched how you positioned yours and it actually went in. Thank you again! :)

Thank you, thank you and than you. I just spent about 45 minutes looking online all over the place and just found your video. I'm changing the CV axles on a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe and everything was going fine except for getting the new one in place. The plastic splash guard was in the way. I couldn't figure out how to remove it and was considering cutting it. Then I found your video and went back put to the garage to see if the bolts were in the same place and they were. Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you taking the time to make the video. Thanks again.
Thanks for documenting your work to help us! My Tucson was parked for about 3 weeks while I was working on the exhaust and oil pan, and when I got those new items replaced, and tried to start her, she wouldn't! She wouldn't turn over - which is usually a sign of a dead (car) battery - but my cheap voltmeter read it had 14 volts - so I thought my (car) battery was fine - I was wrong. The little battery in my voltmeter was almost dead and it was malfunctioning and giving me a bad reading! Meanwhile, I thought my starter was bad, so I removed it - and to get it out, I had to remove the front exhaust pipe that I had just installed! I had the starter tested - and it was fine! They tested the car battery, and it was actually only at 9 or 10 volts and needed to be charged - and may be bad - that's to be seen. So now I'm charging my battery, and I watched your video in case it turns out that my alternator is bad - which I hope is not the case, as that looks like it can be quite difficult.
I have a 2006 Hyundai Tucson I’ve looked everywhere and this seems to be the best videos so far on how to change an alternator on Hyundai I’m starting my alternator change right now this video is going to help out a lot thank you so much for posting it
The first, real tutorial on how to replace am alternator! Thanks man! Great video, good info. Here are a few things that will make your life easier. With the video info loaded in my head, took me 2 1/2 hours start to finish. Random thoughts.: 1) Raise the passenger side vehicle up high so you can get in under the engine sub frame. Please use appropriate jack stands and put the tire under the frame. Too much safety is never wrong. 2) Take the wheel off like the video said, but no need to remove caliper. 3) Removing power steering line bracket is a must. 4) Do all of these things before loosening the alternator mounting bolts and this is done from under the engine bay sub frame. That is why you need to get the vehicle up high. A rolling creeper is nice also. I used a 12 inch long slotted screw driver to take off the small wire holder for the oxygen sensor. don't pry off, you will break it. Use the blade of the screwdriver and push the tabs down and the out for oxygen wire holder, it works. Also use the screw drive to push down on the release tab for the electrical connector to remove it. 5) Make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal. You can then take a 12mm 12 point socket to remove the battery connection. Remove the boot and you can reach on top of the exhaust with your left hand to loosen the bolt. Once you get it loose, use you hand to spin off. 6) Remove top mounting bolt and then loosen bottom bolt. No need to remove long bottom bolt completely. As the video says, point the pulley out towards you and pull out. As karhunt12 says, it is about 1/8 inch too small, but being that the axle boot is rubber, that is the difference make. You are just going to need to try different configurations. It a tough pull. Out was easier than back in for me. Back in, it took my 3 or 4 tries to get it, but it will go. 7) mount the alternator completely and then you can put back all of the electrical back on the alternator just like you took them off. All from under the sub frame. There you go, hope it this helps. Thanks so much for this video, really helpful.
I just changed the alternator on my 2003 Sonata V6. It is just different enough that I had to remove the axle shaft, unbolt a engine mount, and raise the engine up about 4 inches. Your's was a lot easier.
Yeah I have to do the same I think it’s because the alternator has not been replaced since the original, maybe it’s a manufacturing problem? When I’m in the process of taking off the half shaft axle hoping that’s all I need to do to slide the bolt out

Yeah, if I didn't edit the video down it'd be like 4 hours or something haha. Also, AutoZone employees used to seem much more knowledgeable. Me too. Appreciate the video, but for the past several hours I have tried positioning the free alternator 360 degrees with the pulley facing front, 360 degrees with the pulley facing the side, 360 degrees with the pulley facing in. I have disconnected the power steering line, removed the bracket, disconnected the hard line which I assume to be PS, and I need 1/4” more. I have a 2006 Tucson V6. The CV axle has to be removed, that’s going to be the only way to get it out. P.S. I stand corrected. Two things: I watched when you reinstalled the new one and oriented mine exactly the same way. I came down the axle, then back then out the front past the brake line. ALSO, I still had that little plastic tab in the alternator housing, and that was just enough to hang me up. I got that off, then sprayed the CV boot with armor all, and that helped. Thanks for saving my ass. 👍
If you see your brake and battery light come on together, it's time to replace the alternator. For the 2006 Hyundai Tucson you definitely have to remove the right CV axle to do this job. Forget about getting the alternator out, there's no room to even get your hands in there to unhook the cables. And there's no way to get to it from beneath either. Here are some pointers: 1) You'll need a 32mm socket to remove the axle nut 2) Once you release the steering knuckle from the strut, you can let the hub hang there, but watch for the ABS line. Unscrew it from its bracket to ease the tension. 3) In my case the CV axle thankfully came right out with a few tugs. If it's stuck in there, you may be tempted to use a small crowbar to pry it out from undeneath. But there's a metal bracket under the junction blocking access. It seems it's held there with two bolts, for which you'll need 9/16 socket. There's another video on youtube about a guy who pulled it out with the aid of a nylon strap. 3) Unbolt the old alternator and lower it a bit, and then unhook the cables. Reverse this when you put in the the new alternator. 4) After putting in the new alternator, tighten the top bolt before putting on the drive belt. Then put on the belt and tighten the bottom bolt. The belt was easier to take off than put back on. BTW, I bought this alternator: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XUI1OM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. So far so good.
wrong all you have to do is lower the sub frame remove the two 24mm bolts on passengerside and lower like doing the rack in pinion ! LOL also if you wanted to remove axle you remove the two ball joint bolts pull off brake caliber and clip to strut and then you drop axle with 32mm nut not removed

Yes mine was 2005. I have heard of people taking out the CV joint but I just assumed it was because they couldn't figure out that bolt. I guess maybe the 07 is different? If you watched my video all the way through then I'm sure you tried what I said. If that doesn't work then it must have changed in newer Tucsons
@@josepablorosas1738 You probably already know this by now but the long bolt does'nt have to come out. It just slides out that big slot there running down the bottom of the picture. Regardless, I think I'm going to have to take the CV axle out just to get mine out as the frame to cv axle slot you have to pull it through on the 2006 is tighter by a 1/4" to 3.8". Just enough to make you scream, ....and I did. So now I'm debating taking the whole CV out(straight part coming out of tranny, carrier/bearing, transaxle) or just the actual trans-axle on the end. Will update as I go.
Engineers should be able to replace the alternator/parts in SMALL engine bays to see how we feel at times. Seriously wasted about an hour trying to get that stupid alternator out until I had to google it 😓
1:20 yeah no a glitchy cluster is more serious than an alternator. You never want any signs that your computer and/or cluster is glitching. That can lead eventually or is an electrical nightmare, for example rodent damage.
I guess that's true...I hadn't thought about trying to track that problem down. My truck's odometer goes out sometimes and right now I just give it a good thump and it comes back on hahahaha
Ha seriously! A while before this, I replaced all the lifters, water pump, timing belt, & spark plugs and the whole time I'm thinking - "Hyundai could care less if I can get this thing repaired. They only had to built it in a way a robot could put it all together and then sell it and never look at it again". Think about this: if toy makers can design a Transformer that can change from a man to a car - why in the world can't car manufacturers design this thing to open up and slide apart so you can get in there & make repairs??
I’m still working on this one…took about 2 hours to get it out. Got the new one back in place but getting it all hooked back up is really tough! I can’t get it to go back into that U channel…

On the 2007 Tucson límites there’s a bolt on the alternator that holds it and it won’t budge out. Do we remove the CV axel for it? Yours was an 05???
Yes mine was 2005. I have heard of people taking out the CV joint but I just assumed it was because they couldn't figure out that bolt. I guess maybe the 07 is different? If you watched my video all the way through then I'm sure you tried what I said. If that doesn't work then it must have changed in newer Tucsons
@@josepablorosas1738 Dang that sucks man
@@josepablorosas1738 You probably already know this by now but the long bolt does'nt have to come out.
@@rawar777joshanderson the only way with a 120 volt was to take out the axle and it slips out . NEVER AGAIN!
whats an alternater?
Better take it to the service-they know best! ))))
It’s oil dripping from your valve cover gasket
Engineers should be able to replace the alternator/parts in SMALL engine bays to see how we feel at times. Seriously wasted about an hour trying to get that stupid alternator out until I had to google it 😓
Totally agree! Hope this helped
The valve cover gaskets are terrible on these engines which leads to the alternator failure.
Hmmm I wonder if that's what happened to mine
Wouldn't it have been easier to unbolt the alternator then remove all the wiring That's what I have done in the past with an ever I do an alternator
Entendi tudo
What's my hat saying at 19:15?
They didn't make that thing easy to get to at all did they
Ha seriously!
You need to be a little more specific on where things are
I’m still working on this one…took about 2 hours to get it out. Got the new one back in place but getting it all hooked back up is really tough! I can’t get it to go back into that U channel…
Video started good then went to crap
??? What went wrong?
