"OKC just didn't shoot well" "Mavs shot well." Such a lazy analysis. Mavs defensive scheme was to run them off the 3 point line and funnel them to Gafford or Lively. OKC scheme was to shrink the floor and leave corner shooters open to try to beat them. That's why you had PJ and DJJ going off each game because they were always wide open.

Somewhat true, but okc missed tons of shots they normally make and dallas role players stepped up big time. DJJ and PJ made shot after shot while Joe, JDub, Wallace and chet could not hit wide open shots. And you talk about hoe okc "shrink the floor leaving open shots" but dallas did it too, okc plays mainly 5 out so if they are "funnelling them to Gafford or Lively" then someone is open on the perimeter. Most of our players were really nervous to fuck up while dallas' players were hungry to make a big play. Great series and dallas is a hell of a team.

@@adybalanolomete It's not simply as just missing though. I've seen the OKC vs Pelicans. OKC wants to completely collapse the defense by having SGA drive to the paint, what that creates are completely wide open shots after the kick-out because the defenders are more than 6 feet away from the shooter.
The Mavs did not do that, they are doing a double then switch scheme and trusting the big to protect the rim. This allows Mavs defenders to be closer to the perimeter so now when the kick-out happens okc shooters have a defender that is about 4 feet away from them, and with everyone in the mavs being taller than 6'5" (except Kyrie) there is always enough of a contest to bother the okc shooters to either miss or swing the ball eating up more shot clock ending with a forced chuck

~ Long time basketball fan here…
old enough that I remember when the Washington Bullets won an NBA championship.
    I LOVE this game !
For my old heads you remember that commercial.
I never stopped watching, but was separated for a while, Jokic helped bring me back… and that’s a longer story.
just a preface… I haven’t enjoyed watching the NBA this much in a long time… I got locked in post all star game, when I noticed that scores were lower, and it seemed to me, that the NBA was letting guys play defense a bit more.
    Is the competition coming back…?
I liked the TWolves because they were playing great team defense, and thought they could possibly be a team that knocks off Denver.
I also thought that “young teams have to go through the process…before winning the chip, all the great players, {except one, but I’m not a hater}… they all lost in the playoffs before getting over the hump, and getting a championship. ~ The lone exception was Magic, but he still took his lumps in the playoffs, once earning the moniker of “Tragic Johnson “
I also was a fan of Luka’s game from day one… he just had that … basketball swag.. old heads it was never about race. It’s because of Bird, the Celtics are one of my two active rooting interest.
Bird had it also, it’s a tangible asset that doesn’t show up in the box score, but you just have to watch him play…
and if you love the game of basketball, you appreciate the skill of Kyrie, ever since Bob Cousy nothing has gotten fans up out their seats more than a spectacular dribble move and finish at the rim, or great pass and finish… Kyrie has that in natural abundance.
Once Dallas got Gafford (a beast for the local Wizards just dunks everything with force!) and PJ Washington, and started playing Defense,
    Predicted they would beat OKC,
they are just too young, Chet too light to play the 5…
I think this might be Dallas year, for some reason, I think they are going to go on this run and eventually beat my Celtics 😮
But that’s the beauty of this era, some really good YOUNG teams
and Jokic is just in the middle of his prime…
Young fans always talk about how old heads complain and say this era is the best… the GOAT debate.
    the thing is,
I don’t think they watch the game, they watch highlights and breakdown videos.
Well. Maybe they don’t love the game, and just follow the players?
    It’s difficult to gauge.
    But as an old head.
I think this era is 🔥🔥🔥
Especially if they let the guys continue to play physical defense and enforce the rules.
It’s about the competition, it’s about the team. It’s about winning.
The NBA season is a saga, it’s a journey… when the players started saying the regular season didn’t matter, the competition fell off.
Culminating in the awful all star game.
Hopefully that was the end of that era… that old guard should no longer be the focus.
    It’s the young guys time.
    The NBA is fantastic,
    I Love ❤️ this game!

Shooting was not the difference in this series, especially not game 6. The reason DAL was down big is they turned it over 12 times in the 1H-finished with 17 but none in the 4Q. The Mavs were dreadful in the 2H of game 4 and it took 11 missed FTs to lose that game.
After game 1 this series wasn’t close. And that was regardless whether OKC shot well or not. The Thunder did not get out and run in game one either-fast break points were 9-8.
Games 2-3-4 the team that shot better actually lost. Then games 5-6 Dallas shot better but they dominated OKC on the offensive glass. That’s where the series was decided. DAL was just significantly better save for two halves in the final five games.

Dallas has had the best defense in the NBA for the last 20 games of the regular season. Their defense overall was also elite during the playoffs, no wonder OKC shot badly vs them.

Mavs shooting "good" is punishment for OKC doing the hard double on Luka when he is anywhere close to the 3. leaving wide open shooters everywhere and 2.) OKC shooting "poor" because Mavs didn't completely go stupid and hard double SGA everytime. Instead they did a more hedge and switch defense which limits the space OKC shooters have.
