Devil Survivor for the Nintendo DS was my first Shin Megami Tensei game (also called Megaten by fans). Might as well be an anime about demons and death in Tokyo. Thanks, Atlus.
Devil Survivor also feels the most like the Persona games, and while not as stylish as those, it's still very good.

Around 17:00, this is good example of why I love the series. Demons, bosses in particular, are often crazy strong, in creative and powerful ways. This is good because it makes the demons a big deal, which they should be.
But you can also steal their power and become completely busted yourself. In fact, I would say that's what your supposed to do. This is also very fun in both gameplay and story telling.
Right! It always feels awesome to get a boss's weapon/skill.
So, back when I played this game, I kept Haru alive and I guess I advanced her story because the ending I got was that she sang a song that was so cool she made all the demons go away. I remember her playing the Organ in the middle of Babel's boss room. Also Babel didn't have the same face as your playthrough, it was an old man instead.
I remember that! Babel's face is different depending on the ending, it seems.
Incredible work. You did a better job of adapting this game than the anime for the 2nd game did for its own material.

That was a nice watch! Accidentally naming your character something with Bel in it must've been quite the shocking experience as you went through the story

Devil survivor is such a gem of a series- definitely the best way to introduce someone to the universe of smt

Great video, man. Even though i've been a fan of the smt franchise since i was a teen, i didn't play the Devil Survivor Duology just because i wasn't fond of the Strategy-RPG genre. Oh boy what i was missing out, The game mechanics, the story/characters, the ost, everything is excellent (well, the sequel has a weaker story/characters but gameplay-wise is definitely an improvement) and above everything else... An actually good law route!
Agreed. DS2 for the 3DS had great voice acting, too. Daichi's is stellar.
Also, I couldn't get into Nocturne for some reason.

Devil Survivor was my first megaten too, i tried it first in an emulator, but then realized Overclocked had released around that time, so i manage to get it on the eshop and went into the deepest dive ever in the game.
I love how this game can hook up so nicely into the megaten franchise, it is such a gem.
On a related rant about the game:
I lost my save file with all the routes on the last cycle of NG+ i had planned (Naoya's route) and was stuck with Lucifer's boss, man i was so salty for a whole decade, i am recently starting the game again from scratch, so your video really makes me relive all those memories again, good editing!
How's the rerun going? I remember Yuzu's route in Overclocked, it has a day 8 so it's not such a downer anymore.
Plus they gimped Drain. Sad.

My rerun is going slow, i've recently went out of a BIG exam so i didn't have much time to play, now indo so i look forward to it, i am on day 3
Also, yeah! I agree a lot on yuzu's day 8, funny enough she was my first ending since i was a bit too invested in Honda and his sadly deadend events that i missed the chance to pick other routes, HOWEVER it made yuzu's even more interesting that way
Yeah i did feel drain doing less in overclocked, but it works still! Combine it passive skills and sounds fine, i just need to get ready to farm my Vile race demons strat for lucifer tho, planning on redoing all the scenery too, naoya for last and such

Very cool video, but the bit about "wanting the good ending" i don't know if by good you meant like in most games that have multiple endings which are usually a lot of bad endings and 1 good true ending, or if by good you just meant siding with god because in the megaten series, god is more often than not a villain and while there is no official canon ending, most ppl (myself included) consider the demon route, where you ally yourself with naoya and take the fight to god himself to be the best one.
Of course it's all a matter of perspective, but I'll say that if you play the overclocked version which has 1 more day, the new last day of naoya route is VERY fricking cool.

Amane good, Naoya bad. That's how I saw it at the time. I vaguely remember playing through Yuzu's day 8. I don't think I finished it, though.

18:52 fun fact: the head of the first phase of Babel depends on what ending the player is doing (I know this because if you choose Naoya the head will have a different shape).

This is my second favorite smt game
The story of how I got into Devil Survivor is strange. Basically, my ex had a copy, but I gave it back before we broke up. Only played to like Wendigo, but I liked it enough to get the digital version on my 3DS.
Now if you’ll excuse me, Imma try to beat the game while keeping myself below the boss’s levels because I like the challenge.

Yup, Overclocked's extra day is really cool. I haven't played through the Triangulum Arc yet in Record Breaker, though.

Yup, I have Nocturne Remastered on my Switch right now. I finished Strange Journey, 4, 4A and 5. My favorite is between SJ and 4.
I also could never finish a FF game (I tried a lot of games), but Im a SMT fan in general.

Almost. I was going through all endings and met Lucifer. He was Lv99 and HUGE, I dipped out before even trying.

God is actually evil in this game
God and the demons are 2 sides of extremes in Megaten, so they're both bad for humanity. I'm not sure which is the human ending in this game, though.

There is a Neutral ending where you order Babel and the Demons to leave to The Underworld forever making the point of the Angels being there moot
