You are a treasure. Thank you so for your hard work. But it's not just for today. It is thanks for week after week of hard work for little return. Our hearts are bursting with gratitude.
Hi! Wonderful! Hair Spray works too and for something very inexpensive, corn starch will do the trick. Maizena works fantastic. When it’s still warm, is easier to apply. The best part is that you can make it as thick as you want for a much more stiffer result!! It’s easy to sew through too!
Epsom salts works really well. I used to make withces hats with felt. After sewing them, I dipped them into the epsom salt and water mixture, hot water, for a few seconds. Shaped back into form then let dry. If the point of the hat drooped a little all the better. Use hot water for the Epsom salt. It also isn't hard to find and dries quickly.
I've never purchased the specialty embroidery fabric so I've been using the white glue method since I've been doing bead embroidery for the past 10 years. I do it in bulk in a bucket and hang them outside making sure they are soaked. Their wet weight makes them hang from a line I put up so they dry straight. I actually posted my method on one of your inchie videos to help people save money because the price of that specialty stuff is criminal! TFS all these other methods! It was interesting to watch.
I usually watch on TV and don't generally comment. But...this video showed up in my feed at the perfect time! I'm going to spray my felt and save myself from driving to town. Great ideas! Thanks!
I actually liked how the blue paint one turned out.....looks a bit denim or tie dyish....lol...................this was COOL.........AWESOME IDEAS!!! TY Susan!!!
Why is it when I dig tru my stash and find something I need to modify to use in beading, you upload a marvelous video explaining everything I need to know. You save me so much time so I can just get to beading. Thank you thank you, thank you. I especially love your videos on how to make cabachons. Simply wonderful.
A few years ago I was making a very large beaded and shibori silk necklace and didn't want to piece together the regular size sheets of felt. I bought a yard of stiff Pelon and used the craft paints to color the white material - then I cut out the shape that I needed in one huge piece! The craft paint helped to stiffen the Pelon a bit more and the colors went on easily. I enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing!!
Hi i have never done bead Embroidery before i would like to learn because i am learning jewelry making and i do think it will help me to do different pieces i really enjoy your video please help me and show me where to start many blessings and be safe
Yes! Thank you sooo much for this I bought some felt years ago, it was so floppy I just neva bothered to use it and now I can and will. I'm so happy right now God blessings to you mwah!!!
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this!! You gave me a way easier way to make something for my granddaughter for her Birthday! Wow! Much Gratitude and Blessings
Love your intro, super cute, almost as cute as the puppy but not quite. Lol. I am going to try my hand at a simple bead embroidery. I fall in love with your work every time I see it. Thank you so very much for your inspiration. Stay safe and healthy and hug the puppy
Love the girly in your intro! She's so you! I ordered a bunch of felt online and it all ended up the soft stuff. Useless for what I needed. No more!! Thanks so much for trying all these out & showing us your results. As always I'm always so excited when I see a new video of yours pop up. I know it will always be about something incredibly creative plus time & money saving.
Great tutorial. I just had to try it out. Being a COPD person I have to be a non- spray can person so I got my pump action spray starch from my cleaning cupboard. IT WORKED. Thank You so much for your top tips. I ran out of felt again so I had to buy the children's small oblong felt. Which also worked.
I have tried both the paint and the liquid starch and I like the liquid starch much better. The paint one I might of put too much paint on it because it is a little bit harder for me to sew through. This is a great idea thanks so much for sharing this. I love your videos I have learned so much from you.
I knew there must be a way to DIY the stiff bead embroidery felt. Thank you for all the various methods, and I have at least 4 ways to stiffen my felt to try bead embroidery.
I love these options for felt, this idea really help my fairly limited budget .Simple, yet very creative. We all admire your genius:)The little dolly is so cute.Thank you for the time you put in these tutorials.
Very interesting. On my thread & bead crochet bracelets I've used both starches & Elmers Glue All, not School Glue to stiffen. Glue All is permanent after it dries, sometimes too stiff, the starches eventually soften & can wash out if they get wet. For your cabachon beading, especially with the backings you put on & they don't come in contact with water I bet they'll be just fine with School Glue. I'm getting ready to do some beading for purse embellishments. So I'm wondering is the Revive It Floor Polish permanent or does it wash out?
Susan, you do the best demos and testing!!! Thank you. I have to drive over 40 miles to get to a store that carries stiff felt, so this information is just great!! Thank you again, as always!
I do all kinds of crafts, your video is great, I have already made things with felt that need to be stiffened. So I am going to try it help strengthen already made things. Thanks 😊
You have taught me so much. I thank you! I am having fun going thru all of your videos. Thank you for sharing your creativity and time. And of course your vast knowledge.
Thank you for doing all these tests for us! And what a great idea. Stiff stuff is a bit pricey, so have this at home hack is great! I so appreciate you sharing all of your innovative money saving ideas with us. 😃
thank you so much!! i'm new to bead embroidery and didn't realize i would need stiff felt. totally saved me and now my project can be back on track this week
I so love your new intros. Going to watch this new video now and then bed. We are having a heatwave here in London UK. Going to to be over a 100 tomorrow, yikes.
Once again Susan, you never cease to amaze and delight! This is a brilliant tutorial. I love it when you play mad scientist. Gonna try the pledge for sure. Thank you plenty for this great video!
I really like this testing video! I have a whole drawer full of felt...lol.. I'm guessing that the school glue is the most cost-effective, but I also like the idea of just getting the cheap white felt and painting it to match your bead colors. The Dollar Tree has a new craft section and they carry all kinds of paint. I would actually use that for painting my felt. I'm going to save the nice paints and my expensive paints, of course ,for my top work. Great information, great video!
Ever tried iron on craft interfacing. Just wondering I have tons of that. lol yes it’s stiffer then others but thin to bead on. So adding it to felt would be interesting.
You can probably use an embroidery hoop with that floppy felt. I’ve made a couple of pieces with some lightweight canvas and made pendants using my embroidery hoop.
I have tons of felt (it's one of my favorite things), but no stiff felt. I was thinking about trying starch since I have it...I was inspired by the tiny flower video to try some beading, but didn't want to order anything new. Thanks for once again answering a question I haven't had time to ask yet. Oh, and I love, love, love the intro!!!
Great ideas! I am currently painting particle-board coasters with FolkArt color shift paints. Oh honey, these paints have your name all over them! They are acrylic paints with metallic bits of contrasting color to the paint. They dry glossy, and thin easily with water. I attempted stabilizing t-shirt material with rinse-away machine-embroidery stabilizer. No go. It's really difficult to push a needle through. Machine embroidery stabilizers also tend to be pricey. I wanted to ask you about using the floor finish on beads; does it come off if you wash the beads? Finally, you inspired me to make little flower bead/buttons (hot pink 6 petals with orange ball centers) for a beach cover-up that I transformed into a little summer dress for hanging around the house on 90+ degree days. My husband was even impressed with my fancy glass bead button loops too. Thanks for all your great ideas.
I love your intro..... that little doll and the teacups. I find them fascinating. I love your tutorials, and l watch you for hours ! Please keep up the great work. I love your creations X
Hi Susan, so glad you demonstrated the different kinds of products for us to try, can't wait to try a few. I have absolutely learned so much from your awesome channel. Thank you 😊
What an incredibly helpful video! Who knew that so many products would be successful in stiffening felt. Definitely gonna give some of these a try, thank you so much!
This is very helpful, thank you so much! I have a pile of wrinkly rejected colors of soft felt my kids have not used in their projects in my craft stash waiting for some use and now I have one. I was just silently cursing the lack of stiffness in the piece of stiff felt I was beading on when this video popped up in my recommended list too!
This is great information! This is going to help me a lot. I’m on a strict budget. I think the paint idea is awesome. Just buy white or cheapest one and paint it to the colour you need. Thank you!💝🥰🤗
I do a lot of felt work, and I am so happy to have stumbled across your video. I LOVE the paint idea, because you are limited to certain colors... So a Huge Thank You to your husband and a Huge Thank You to to you for posting this!!! Just perfect!! TYTYTY
Tfs I really appreciate you showing what works so I know what I can use to continue to learn bead embroidery. I can look forward to learning more. Tysm
Hello Susan! I use laundry starch to stiffen mine. I use a plastic container from the Dollar Tree. Then I lay it out on the foil. I flip mine as well. Nice to have a few other other options in a pinch and I love the paint option. I am definately going to try the spray next time! Thank you for sharing the experiment!
Thank you Susan for sharing your experimentations with us. It saves us time and money and gives us great ideas! I am guessing you still plan to line the backs with faux suede. I don't imagine these standing up to being worn close to the skin and perspiration. I also wonder if they would bleed onto clothing if a person got caught in the rain or wore them on a night of dancing. Maybe mix the paint with the other liquid products rather than water so it becomes more permanent? I'd love to see you experiment these same test products with wear-ability and durability with exposure to moisture and see what happens.
TurtleSoupBeads fantastic! You have one of the most unique and whimsical intros on You Tube! Perhaps your alter ego should have her own creative adventures!
Love all your tutorials, you fully explain all the options.I have lots of left over felt and I love embroidery, and like you don't want more landfill .XOXO 👌🍎
Great to know, thank you for doing all the experiments for us. 💗 I was amazed you thought of so many😊 I also have meant to tell you how cute your little mini you doll in the intro is. She is a very busy lady 💗👏🏻😊
You are a treasure. Thank you so for your hard work. But it's not just for today. It is thanks for week after week of hard work for little return. Our hearts are bursting with gratitude.
Totally agree! After watching another video of tears, I was trying to figure out what I could use to make stiff felt. This helps tremendously!
Thanks so much! Beading foundation is so expensive, but you've helped me find MANY solutions that are much more economical
Hi! Wonderful! Hair Spray works too and for something very inexpensive, corn starch will do the trick. Maizena works fantastic. When it’s still warm, is easier to apply. The best part is that you can make it as thick as you want for a much more stiffer result!! It’s easy to sew through too!
Oh wow ! I never thought of either one great ideas tfs
TurtleSoupBeads you didn’t because you are busy!!!!
Thank you for your additional great ideas :)

Ounce for ounce the liquid starch is the cheapest. You're tops, Susan! Love the new intro.
I usually watch on TV and don't generally comment. But...this video showed up in my feed at the perfect time! I'm going to spray my felt and save myself from driving to town. Great ideas! Thanks!

Hey Susan you could put your liquid starch into a spray bottle. Best of both worlds.
Probably could I just never thought about it, good idea !
A few years ago I was making a very large beaded and shibori silk necklace and didn't want to piece together the regular size sheets of felt. Thank you Susan for more great ideas.
That was amazing!! Thank you for taking the time to do that! Total game changer
Wow! It looks like the final products behave much the same as UltraSuede, but much more economical! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, lots of information and ideas. You are a treasure for sure! Thank you.
Hi i have never done bead Embroidery before i would like to learn because i am learning jewelry making and i do think it will help me to do different pieces i really enjoy your video please help me and show me where to start many blessings and be safe
Thanks so much for sharing your video. I am working on a piece right now. I have taken the beads off 5 times now. I will try this. Thanks again. ❤️
Yes! Thank you sooo much for this I bought some felt years ago, it was so floppy I just neva bothered to use it and now I can and will. I'm so happy right now God blessings to you mwah!!!

Thank you so much, you're the best.
thank you so much!! i'm new to bead embroidery and didn't realize i would need stiff felt. totally saved me and now my project can be back on track this week
There is a non-aerosol version of spray starch out there. Can't wait to give it a try, along with the surplus of Modge Podge I have laying around.
Or, if you have an iron, try heavy-duty fusible interfacing (for coats) on the back side that is going to be covered anyway.
I love this idea! tfs
Love seeing your puppy at the end of your videos! Great ideas, thank you for taking the time to share.
I so love your new intros. Going to watch this new video now and then bed. We are having a heatwave here in London UK. Going to to be over a 100 tomorrow, yikes.

Great tutorial. Well-organized and informative. Thanks!
Thank you for the various ways of stiffening felt. Ive only ever used watered down glues or starch. Useful info. tfs x
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! IT WAS AWESOME. HELPED ME OUT A GREAT DEAL.
Great video, thank you so much. I have various felts and a few fail buys BUT no more they are now useful no matter what colour! 👍 ..... Doggy 💖🐾
Thank you! Big money saver and a great way to use what I already have....like a gallon of liquid polymer medium!
I have tons of felt (it's one of my favorite things), but no stiff felt. Smart lady, I thought about starch as well my dear. Continue to have fun. Sherie Rodrigues.
Which kind of felt are you using? Polyester, wool, mix? Do you order it from ebay or a different source?
@@MobyDicksWife All wool or poly-wool blend from someone on Etsy. It was purchased years ago so I don't remember the vendor.

I used the spray starch. It took applications, but worked very well!! Thank you!!!
Love all your tutorials, you fully explain all the options.I have lots of left over felt and I love embroidery, and like you don't want more landfill .XOXO 👌🍎
Learned a lot from your experiments. Your beaded pieces are beautiful!
Thank you so much for testing out all these products. I will try the spray
Thanks for this info! I can't find stiff felt easily in time for an art show and was in despair about using my floppy felt, this will help a ton!
New intro is 🔥 very cute!
Great to know, thank you for doing all the experiments for us. 💗 I was amazed you thought of so many😊 I also have meant to tell you how cute your little mini you doll in the intro is. She is a very busy lady 💗👏🏻😊
Thank you!! Helped a lot. If you buy the white online- the stiff felt is expensive and hard to find. This is an awesome video!
