The P-51H is one of the best props in the game, as long as it doesn't face jets it can take care of about anything. It has a great climbrate, it's extremely fast and turns above average. Just the guns can be a little bit of a let down.

It's wild how the two maneuvering weaknesses of this thing, low-speed roll and turn circle, make this thing relatively bad in one-circle turn fights, but the engine power let's it climb over the enemy's nose so often that many props can't even take advantage of this "weakness" unless you're both spiralling to the deck.

I've dog fought a lot of p51hs and was pissn myself til i forced them slow... oh boy a lot of p51h players are so confident they don't expect when something as large as a J5n1 falls over their totally stalled at 150 IAS after a long two circle dogfight

The P-51's maneuvering weaknesses are infinite and many. Because of the Su-11. There are zero reasons to play any 6.0 prop whatsoever. The Su-11 makes them all completely worthless.

P51H helped me grind to the F86. And that one got me to the A4B. Which led to the A10A late. That in turn let me grind to the F4J.

I was expecting him to immediately die to an Su-11 because that's exactly what happens in all 6.0+ prop matches with only extremely rare exceptions. The P-51H will continue to be worthless until the Su-11 is dealt with.

Yeah it doesn't turn at all but when you roll and turn as quickly as possible in the same time, you become unpredictable that these su-11 cancers won't even hit anywhere near you.
The issue is, that you don't outrun it, you don't outclimb it, you don't outturn it. But if pilot is stupid enough to not dodge head-on, you almost always get the kills on them. Probably because they think there is no stronger armament than su-11's (J7W1's 4x 30mm only HEF-T shotgun vs Su-11's 2x 23mm + 37mm) at 6.0 - 8.0. As I said, they're cancers

Kek today I went on the Shinden and after failing all my shots on a Yak and buzzing away at 700 IAS, a F82 hauled ass towards me from below and a single light yellow right wing put me into an instant flat spin the time I tried to go defensive. Luckily he collided with me...

How is that? Faster ticket bleed= shorter matches= instead of 10 a day, u will do 1 or 2 extra with the same ammount of time= higher reward totally. The thing i can agree its a fucking annoying when it's game over in the middle of fight for no reason.
@@PablooWT Rewards are based on "activity time". If you stay alive for a full 25 minutes match you will have higher rewards compared to if you died 5 minutes in while scoring the exact same points

And I've certainly seen matches end in 5 minutes because of a single groundpounder + automatic ticket bleed + bullshit map specific objectives draining even more tickets (such as capturing airfields or destroying the fire boats on Malta)
@@PablooWTNo, becausemost of the RP you earn come from something called "Time Played" - if matches are SHORTER, you will spend more time in the hangar and on finding matches than flying, which makes the grind longer. Correct thing here would be increase tickets by 50% and make match time 10 minutes longer.

I swear the p-51h is the fastest piston prop in the game, literally my all time favorite plane. Thanks for revisiting the p-51h. Edit: I'm talking about both sea level and high alt. Playing it in arcade mode is just absolutely wild, I can get it up to 470 on the deck which is insane. And going up to high alt I've reach just barely over 500mph. The p-51h was literally designed as a big improved version of the D variant, better engine, higher speed, climb rate, agility, etc. Only thing that it probably doesn't have over the D is landing gear durability and also it's lightweight body can't deal with damage as good. This literally is the god form of all props in my opinion. Now since it never made it to any conflicts, it wasn't really used. I'm guessing Gaijin did give a little more as a prop since they probably had some idea that the p-51h was supposed to be REALLY fucking good. Anyways Do-335 can stay losing
Technically the do335B, Hornet, and spitfire mk24 should be faster, but I'm not sure how much I should trust the stat card in this case.
@@thomashanson6603 for props speed at sea level is more important than high alt speed most of the time, and p51h goes like 650kmh+ asl
Do335B is faster yes at like above 10km and hornet is faster at 5km. Mk24 is slower at all alts.

@@diss2473 Ok I'll do a little testing. So hornet can do 665 ish at sea level, spitfire mk24 does about 605, p51h is also about 665, f8f1b can do 660, do335 will do about 600. I'm testing some more but those are probably the best parts of it. Curious which is actually faster between hornet and p51h, the hornet seemed to get there easier to me but that could be wrong. Either way, I think you undervalue medium altitude speed, like what you get right after your climb. While it may not be as important as your low altitude speed(depending on how you play) it's also pretty important.
This thing is pretty great, it's just a shame that dogfights are rare whenever I play it.

The ticket counter exists to prevent you from increasing your score in order to extend the time it takes to grind.
I am such a newb pilot, I watch you and OddBaws to learn, it is very clear to me that this game is all about hours and skills.
Make sure you know your plane's weakness and advantages. Don't take fights you can't win. Always have the altitude advantage and take every chance to exploit your oponents weaknesses while concealing yours
I LOVE this plane. It's got good climb, speed, turn rate, and armament. Most of my kills with this thing are the damned Ju 288s. I am also proud to say that I've claimed at least five or six jet kills, including the 262. I don't know the EXACT number, so I'm keeping it low.
One of my more slower matches with this plane was against the Germans in Air RB. I got into a rolling scissors/vertical dogfight with a 109 G before I finally got my guns on him and set him on fire. Near the end of the match, it was only myself, a strike aircraft, and a bomber, vs. 1 288 that was in orbit. I make the decision to do a spiraling climb to reach the 288, slowly reaching his altitude before I knocked him out of the sky.
I opt for the universal/tracer belts, depending on what I think I'm going up against. But mostly I go for the tracers just for the light show and setting planes on fire :)
I killed a BI rocket plane in this plane after it failed to kill me, I lit his engine on fire from like 0.70 km

I dunno, the Mk 24 is pretty damn good in all categories too. So good they bumped it up to where it basically only fights jets lol.

@@no-legjohnny3691 The Mk.24 is 70kmh slower than the P-51H at altitudes relevant for them game, in th emost ideal scenario. If you dont want to overheat its like 150kmh slower.
Spiteful would indeed be a close contender. Its a little slower than the P-51H at low altitudes (which is where it matters in game) with the Spiteful Mk.14 going 658km/h and the Mk.16 (one off prototype) going around 670 km/h at sea level (vs the P-51H's 678km/h), and has more draggy radiators (which given that anything with griffon engine in game overheats quite a bit is a factor). It would also be worse than the P-51H in a dogfight most likely, because its a bit heavier and has a worse wing loading, and the climb should be about the same, but it would have better guns, and infinite WEP.
tbf gaijin does need to finish adding the final stage ww2 prop planes like the XP72, XP40Q series, ki64 spiteful, the actual R2Y1 prototype etc etc
Yeah, that ticket bleed robbing you was rough man. I personally don't care for ground RB or jet gameplay in air RB, so I have about 2k hours almost exclusively in air RB props, and I've been pretty turned off of the game for a while now, largely because of midmap AA being ridiculously accurate for no reason, ticket bleed, and bad BR's and matchmaking balance.

Not the fastest and not a brilliant climb rate, but can turn inside pretty much everything in its class and with 4x 50 cals, cuts up everything in its sights. Obviously, with a BR of 2.3, it doesn’t come up against the big guns, but so much fun to fly!

@@John.McMillan Yak-9P is one of my favorite planes, I'm absolutely a 9P enjoyer, and while Defyn is most certainly being somewhat hyperbolic when he says "Well it's just shit." He's not entirely wrong. The yak-9P in terms of performance at it's BR (excluding uptiers) is not too great. The yak-9U outdoes it 0.3 BR lower in every category except armament. I think the performance being worse than the 9U, with the better guns like the 23mm requiring less time with guns on target for a kill as well as the 5.0 cucked matchmaker create a unique playstyle for the 9P

@@jacobdonnely2608 In my expirience it out climbs and out runs alot of what it will usually face (unless its 6.0), and when below about 3000-4000m you can usually fairly easily win in turn fights.
But people try to use it as 6k amd wander why a low alt fighter does poorly.
I also like that it can handle high G turns well and it's flaps don't rip as easily as the previous Yak's.

Something I’ve noticed, that causes tickets to bleed very fast, is the AI attackers just crashing somewhere at roughly the same time. Not sure why they do this, it could be they’re taking damage from AA and eventually falling out of the sky, or maybe they’re just incredibly poorly coded and crash after dropping their bombs.
This is due to damage overtime and fuel leaks caused from anything that hits them. Their flight models are actually way more susceptible to getting shot even from rifle calibers due to them being bound to the server (0 ping, 0% packet loss, perfect hitreg). If we had LAN dedicated servers, the game would be TREMENDOUSLY more lethal, as from a 3.5kg burst, on 160 ping / 0.5% PL you might get around 1.8kg of mass hitting a plane. But on 0ms, the entirety of the bullets are hitting the same place at the same time and doing lots of damage. You can notice this with slow rounds, like MK108. Sometimes it absolutely explodes the plane you are shooting and sometimes it just "near misses" by a milimiter or you get "sparks" or "explosion puffs" with no damage, which is mostly due to extremely small percentages of packet loss AND ping combined. You are hitting them on your screen but the plane is a few inches off on the server, either overshoots them or undershoots them (server-wise). 0.5% PL and 160ping is a huge difference from the bots, which if they take a single burst of 7.62 they get leaks, either fuel or water or oil everywhere. You can notice that most of them are trailing some kind of smoke from the engines very early in the match, every match. If you have graphics settings turned on, you can see a few engines busted at like 7 minute mark, as they maintain 100% throttle while overheating to death. That damage eventually leads to engine failure, which the bots deal with horribly.
I missed this kind of commentary of Defyn, really makes u enjoy the game. It's David Attendborough's level.

16:00 I was playing a match on the side on my Tu-2 and got sniped by midmap AA, as in they touched my engine, it got set on fire and I burned down. I was at 2.5km.

Do you use some custom camera controls? I see a lot of people in clips move the camera around and still manouver perfectly. Whenevr im in a fight i lose track of the enemy because i dont know how to fly and look at the same time.

there is a super sneaky trick to slow down in props and make others overshoot you, use manual engine controls and set the prop pitch to 100% so when you cut the throttle the prop acts as an air brake, and if you need to accelerate again, well the prop pitch is at 100% so you're set.
only works properly in F model and later 109s
@@DEFYN as long as you can change the prop pitch, and the engine doesn't die (like in fw190s), it will work, i tried it on the swedish VL Pyörremyrsky recently and it worked, if the aircraft has auto prop pitch you can turn on manual controls> turn on manual prop pitch> then change the pitch, but you probably know that already

I just got the P51H a few weeks ago and so far it's been pretty great. I get an average of 1 kill per game because either I'm in an uptier and can't catch jets or I get killed by a 3rd party. Also my aim is pretty bad.

@King Ghidorah In the new bracket system in Sim, it is viable, but I still rarely fly it anymore. Dealing with jets is boring as they rarely engage in a dogfight. Sticking to running and head on passes. Anymore I stick between 3.0 - 6.3 brackets to have more fun in dog fights.
I used to play the D5 and D30 a lot back in the day, there was quite a bit of suffering against germany at the time. So this plane just makes me so happy to fly

You did a interesting examination of a close (yet utterly inferior) ancestor of the praise worthy yak-9P, the yak-3P, and what we discovered here through your frankly surface level examination of the 3P, is that it's utterly inferior to the 9P. Let's just say that yak-3P were instead a 9P, things would have turned out a little bit differently. All I'm saying is that if I was fighting in Ukraine the war would already be over, i'm built different you see.

If the P-51H has WEP it can outclimb and effortlessly out run the Mk.24. If it doesn't have WEP it outruns the Mk.24 but not by much and that is it. For 7 and a half minutes the P-51H is the best prop there is in the game.

I would of thought mk24 is the best prop. Idk I’m not a p-51 fan. My favorite prop is the F8F. And the M3s suck now, AN/M2s r best 20mm I think

God I hate auto ticket bleed. Almost every game ends 10 minutes early because of the bleed and a couple attackers zerg rushing AI at the start of the game before dying or running to base. Don't get why Gaijin devs are allergic to coding fun in Air RB.

I am learning so much from these videos but I still struggle understanding the aircraft. I am trying to hop between nations as I grind their tech tree to get an understanding of how each plane plays. But I can't really figure out their playstyle just from looking at their stats.
Is there a cheatsheet out there that can tell me which plane is a good turn fighter, or energy fighter compared to their peers in the same rank?
Also I think I have figured how to play energy fighters, and I am having some success playing them at my rank, but I can't figure out how to play a turn fighter. Do I just try to cut off their flight path and evade their guns with my superior turning?
It's hard for me to understand the win condition of each plane still, knowing it would help a lot.
warthunder wiki and sometimes reddit posts can help you with a new aircrafts playstyle. keep an eye on the date it was said though as the game changes over time.
Turn fighters are basicaly what you said. You cant catch them in a straight line but you can outturn them. this means you dont try and catch them, then dodge their gun run and trun onto their sox and shoot. if they try and turn with you you win easily, an if they dont hope your teammates help.
the warthunder stat cards are crap, dont rely on them for anything except getting a general gist of a vehicle because a lot of the information is wrong and/or misleading.

Sure there's a super high chance of winning but the game hasn't even been decided yet, the game basically denies a great player the chance to salvage a game(which is very much possible). At the same time there isn't bullshit AAA on the chessboard. Unless you're referring to that channel with the ICBM gambit.

No. The Mk.24 is quite a bit slower in level flight speed and has a worse climb rate if the P-51H is climbing with WEP. Better turn/roll/maneuverability doesn't matter when the other plane can out climb and out run you with ease.

@@rainsilent28 vs 30 is not an unsurmountable difference. I can climb to 4k within the first 3-4' of a match with no problems.
@@LordGangrel 28 to 30 isn't insurmountable but it is a fairly difficult difference to overcome. Especially when the faster climbing aircraft is also faster. Problem is that the P-51H is over 30. It is somewhere around 31-32. The actual difference is closer to 3-4m/s. I gave 2 because it is more conservative in favor of the Spit.

I take this thing out in grb and deny german do335s fun. I also do it with the yak37 and ki84 otsu (chinese prem). Ever since finding defyns channel ive become a menace in grb, ive goon out in air rb too but im meh. GRb players though.... and the off chance i get a good dog fight. Its so nice

It was already kinda stupid at 5.3 but at 5.0 it's not fun anymore. You have better performace and .50s are still .50s.

The Mk.V would be ok at 5.3. It is at least slightly inferior to most 5.7s but it is also at least slightly superior to most 5.0s.

At one point of the match, I see your radiator module integrity is shown on screen to tick down to 65%? How is it possible to write it to the screen?

Spitfire Mk 24 next if you’re gonna play the P-51H
I think the Griffon Spitfires are better, they are just as fast and are way more maneuverable.
Even the 5.7 LF mark nine can eat the P51 for breakfast if the pilot isn't careful. That thing has insane climb and really good speed for a Spitfire.
bro in my 3rd game with this plane i had my best game ever. 7 kills lost on tickets cuz this guy was camping airfield. but got 50k sl and now understand why i should play realsistics more
9:11 the guy is a main AA player in ground RB, the first time i saw someone that really only like to play AAs in ground RB.
Well, I have a bunch of air kills with the Bagel, I'm also mostly AA cause playing anything else is just awful, there's always something on the air that will ruin your day.
Nowadays the only thing i hate is MIG27K, because when im on ADATS i cant see them on the radar and boom, they just drop an ATGM from like 8km without me noticing.

The only good P-51H counters are Yak-3 VK-107, Ki-84 Hei, Spitfire LF Mk.IX, and eventually Ta 152 and J7W1 if they're above you

Defyn, I recently took out the yak 7 b. It is a monster. give it a try.
It is a good plane, but you are also facing lots of newer players.
16:20 it is a thing, so players have to worry about it and have to get also that into their SA.

The Regular F8F? Nah, that's like asking to have a cactus shoved up your ass. That thing somehow has worse flight performance than the 1B, and of course, worse guns. You need to further hinder the F8F if you want to have decent firepower. Which is carrying the gun pods
