I always look at Buff's reaction to the moments it takes to comprehend and adjust to a complete reordering of life. She has this idea of who her best friend is, and this includes the fact that she's always dated men, been attracted to men etc. To suddenly be confronted by the fact that she is now dating a woman, and all the societal and emotional baggage that came with that at the time and for that matter today. Made her hesitate until she realizes her friends needs here to be there and be supportive no matter how different it might seem to Buffy herself.
There was a suddenly flood of homophobic complaints after this episode, and Joss Whedon asked where they had all been for the last few months. Because of network censorship, the writers had to use euphemisms and subtle allusions to show that Willow and Tara were more than friends. Modern audiences pick up on them easily, but they were subtle enough that a good chunk of the audience didn't figure it out until this episode. Even in California at this time, there were still people who had never been exposed to a homosexual relationship, even on TV. Straight was the default assumption.
Oh, you're so right. I remember going to school the next day sso happy. A few of my classmates who always watched the show were dumbfounded, like they never saw it coming. A lot of reactors forget that their relationship development has all been in scenes where they're _alone,_ except for that scene in the Bronze where Faith in Buffy's body meets them, notices the subtext and makes fun of Tara for it.
No, Tara's been kind hanging with them since after the bodyswap. Both Buffy and Xander were oblivious, but to be fair, they didn't think that it was even a thing to be observant for. William S Burroughs shot his wife in the head while drunk. He said it was a drunken game of William Tell gone horribly wrong - there is debate about this. That's what Buffy is referring to.
Good reaction. Willow didn't tell Oz about Tara because she was pretty confused about the situation herself. She was drawn to both of them but didn't want to commit until she had sorted out her own feelings. Oz turning kind of forced his and Willow's dissolution. Notice this was another Marti Noxon turning of the tables episode. As with 'I Only Have Eyes For You', people are forced to see a situation from a rival's perspective and ultimately come around; Buffy accepting Willow's coming out, Riley seeing the softer side of demons, and then Buffy spilling about her own unconventional relationship - great tie-ins.
The only mistake Oz made was not telling Buffy in Wild At Heart what had happened. He never had control over the wolf inside. He tried his best but it was all beyond his control that's why he had to leave because he loved Willow so much but knew it was her that would always bring the wolf out in him. Xander gave him the impression in this episode that she was still single. It's a tragic love triangle with three people, who we really like so much. It's great that Riley shows how much he cares for Buffy by helping to free Oz. Oz makes the ultimate sacrifice again knowing they can never be together as Willow is the trigger for his transformation. It was great to see Tara and Willow back together again. One the better episodes of S4.
Yes. That was the moment his signature stoicism blew up in his face. Oz is kinda of a tragic character when you really think about it. I feel like most people don't talk about that. Probably my favorite Oz scene is in "Fear Itself" and he's sitting in the bathtub half golfed about repeatedly begging himself not to crying practically being on the verge of tears. That moment alone said SOOOO much about his character(and his feelings regarding his wolf side) than probably all of his other scenes combined(except maybe his inner thoughts in "Earshot")
@AshLee92490 Yes his inner thoughts in Earshot were brilliant, being all philosophical about things, where every other male is justing thinking about sex.
@killianlpc I can only imagine what was going through his mind all through the "Wild at Heart" episode. I think he was still trying to process everything and wanted to try to figure it out on his own because he's just used to just dealing on his own(like when he forst became a wolf, he kept and tried to solvd the issue himself instead of telling one of the Scoobies about it), but it backfired. Partial fear, partial self reliance..
The conversation at the end of the episode is what should've happened before Oz left the frst time. It wouldn't have been about why Willow was moving on (like it is in this episode), but probably more along the lines of Oz saying he loves her but he doesn't know when he'll be back, if at all, so she shouldn't wait (he was more prepared emotionally to deal with needing to say it than Willow was, who was still in denial about why he had to leave if Veruca was dead). The reason the writers wrote this episode is because neither character could move on until they had the closure they finally get in this episode, and there were many fans waiting to come back because most lesbian storylines at the time were more about a fling before going back to boys.

I like Oz AND Tara. If I ever wrote fanfic, it would have involved the following elements; it relies on polyamory being acceptable. ----- Willow is bisexual, as Joss wanted her to be. Willow loves both Oz and Tara. Both Oz and Tara love Willow - and want her to be happy. Oz learns to control his jealousy, realizing that Tara is awesome. Tara and Oz come to respect each other, and become friends. Willow wants both of them, and they become a throuple, two powerful witches and their werewolf protector. ----- Hey, I can dream...
I'm sure you've been told about the terrible HD remaster. I only mention it because the reference footage you use is the HD version, which looks very fake and plastic and is immediately noticeable Once you finish, there is a great video as to why it's so terrible in comparison to the original footage. Anyway, enjoy the rest of S4 :)
Thank you. Yes we have, but this is one of the only ways for us to legitimately watch the show. I have tried some other resources, two separate ones, they're all the remaster sadly
@732ReviewCrew I'd suggest reaching out to other Buffy reactors. I know someone, but can't remember who, had high quality copies of the episodes but not the HD remastered stuff. It's not a huge deal, we are just passionate about hating the HD remaster lol ;)
This is a good episode. We get the Willow/Tara love story that we deserve and it wraps up Oz’s story quite nicely. Spike teaming up with Adam should provide some fun entertainment. Riley continues to be about as interesting as Amazon box packing. Sorry, not a Riley fan. Lol
Why do I feel like you guys seen this show and just kinda playing along with it because Mikey seems to predict certain parts of each episodes. It’s too common.
Joe was the one who saw this show. I predict a lot of stuff because I edit so I watch every episode twice, the first time when we watch and the second time on edit. I do scene by scene so I notice things and it allows me to theorize or pick up on certain things I don't notice during the reaction.
This is an odd comment. But perhaps it's referring to that period where people rationalized that women kissing other women was for attention and it was often portrayed that way in the media, especially the more sleazy parts. That said, especially in the party/bar/drug scene, some people did do certain things they wouldn't normally do, but it was never a "fashionable" thing.

I like Oz AND Tara. If I ever wrote fanfic, it would have involved the following elements; it relies on polyamory being acceptable.
-----
Willow is bisexual, as Joss wanted her to be.

Hey, I can dream...
I'm sure you've been told about the terrible HD remaster. I only mention it because the reference footage you use is the HD version, which looks very fake and plastic and is immediately noticeable
Once you finish, there is a great video as to why it's so terrible in comparison to the original footage.
Lol
The writers really did him dirty. They could ay least have made him less sanctimonious.
Guys, you might want to consider not reading the episode titles from here on out.
Got it
Michael is married ? Happy wife. 😊
Yes he is!
@ ahh gotcha!
You have to remember this is back before 25% of college girls announced that they part of the alphabet brigade to be fashionable.
Amazing. You can read minds of people you've never met. Do you call yourself straight because that's what's fashionable in your world?
What alternate universe did you go to university in?
Begone, mad red hatter.
@@cajah88 This is a dog whistle common among certain circles that argue people don't actually know their own gender or sexuality. They're just play acting. It's thinly veiled bigotry. Don't fall for it, or work too hard to excuse it. (Edited to fix grammar.)
One of my favorite episodes of Buffy! Oooh, the suspense when we watch it for the first time... I'm reading "Wicked" right now because the movie was wonderful. 🪄
